Even when bundled with their pedals this is STILL cheaper than a Logitech G923, so today we'll be putting it to the test against other popular offerings from Logitech, Fanatec & Moza to see how it stacks up!

Just a quick note on pricing and shipping costs. It seems the cost of shipping from Cammus varies massively depending on where you're located, so as always make sure you shop around and compare pricing of competitor products in your own region with your own taxes as it may well compeltely change what ends up being the best value for you.

XT60 (60A current) plug is widely used among Radio Control products (battery terminals) and tested by enormous amount of people to be very reliable over time. Batteries are being exchanged thousands of times (at least 400-600 cycles for each battery) and there are no issues with this connector starting to be loose. Therefore, using it in a wheel when you'd be fixing it on table and connecting once is a total overshot.

Nice video! I'm quite impressed by how fast the C5 moved in drifting sequences. That fast response is also crucial for saving spins in circuit racing too, and that's often touted as one of the biggest gains of DD wheelbases, so it's something to ponder too. I do believe that if Cammus did a v2 version of this C5, with a round shape and slightly bigger paddles, at the same price, it would be tough to beat.
Another thing I think you didn't mention, is that the rotary encoders are not working as such: they work like rotary switches, meaning that each position triggers a different input, so they are not good for every use. Cammus could do a workaround via firmware for making them work both ways though, and it would add some value to the package.
It's not mentioned in the video, but at Cammus's shop there is a pedal set that I've seen very little talk of, and that is the LC100. 3 pedals, 100 kg range brake with adjustable damper, looks very solid and nice, for 239 dollars. That makes the Cammus ecosystem far more tempting IMO (I don't care about consoles though, Fanatec's compatibility is something to factor in as you stated).
Looking forward for that C5 teardown!

Finally someone talking about the LC100 pedals! Ever since this video came out I began to look more into cammus because I wanna upgrade from my G920 and cammus has a great price. Their pedals look good, but with no good in depth reviews it's hard to say if they are actually good. But regardless I might just get them and the wheel. because if you opt for just the wheel and get the LC100 separately you're spending 488. Which is insane for a DD wheel and potentially great pedals too.

I'm not at all saying that this applies to TM, but generally speaking some companies pay for their reviews and/or aren't willing to provide review samples to channels who pride themselves on complete honesty; demanding a final say or positive review in return for sending the goods.
I'll pick a product (or other product from same company) that Boosted has found to have a couple of issues but good overall (especially if they've taken criticism onboard!) long before a product that's deemed "perfect" by a channel accepting (or setting, if it's a disguised infomercial) such terms.

If a company doesn't want to have non biased reviews of their products and can't take criticism and make improvements thats a HUGE red flag. Don't get me wrong I think its important to support your favourite content creators so they can produce more great content. But Thrustmaster is selling really expensive gear. It's not a €20 T-shirt we are talking about. The T818 costs €650. That's not the kind of money most people can just throw out the window just because the company making this product has their name on the screen when watching a stream. And this is why I say sarcastically "amazing company". Because of the price of Thrustmaster's products I find this behaviour anti-consumer at best.

I waited for the C5 to be shipped out before making my buying decision a few weeks ago, and was pretty hyped when it finally was on sale. They had a customer, period.....or so I thought. The cost for a C5, pedal set and a desk clamp was an amazing $329US. I added to my cart, and then it all fell apart. Seems that Cammus only ships from China and has no distribution centers that service the US atm----and that's killing them. Putting in my address (NYC, NY, USA) popped up the only shipping option, Air from China, a slow (12-20 day), and waaaaay too expensive way to get it. The total shipping cost was $114.00---ouch! That brought the once great deal to it's knees and killed it.
Fanatec started their sale on the CSL DD standard bundle for PC the same day Cammus started selling the C5 to the public. Coincidence? I think not. For a total cost just over $65US more than the C5 bundle mentioned above with horrid shipping charges added I got my foot into a vastly more mature ecosystem that I'm not regretting for a minute was a better idea. Cammus needs to add more distributers, and fast, if they plan on competing with anyone, Fanatec, Moza, anyone. They lost a sale here, and from what I've seen since launch, many, many others bailed for this exact same reason. I really hated waiting like I did to get deterred by the shipping cost, but here it is. I hope they get it together and fix this, competition is a good thing for all.

To anyone with the R5 that is experiencing the countersteer 'lag' don't worry, you can fix it. The key to having the wheel return properly when counter steering while drifting with the R5 is all in the moza pithouse settings you have. DO NOT use the default drift setting. You need to customize the FFB curves, turn ffb strength anywhere from to 70-100, set maximum wheel speed to 150-180% depending on the car pack. In assetto corsa, open python apps in game, select FFB controller, adjust car specific FFB (usually 40-60 range) then set all other settings like slips, road, bumps, ETC to 0. They are all just extra vibrations that you don't need. You can set road and slips to a lower setting if you'd like to get a tad bit of extra road feedback.Make sure to click 'save' in FFB controller before closing it so you won't have to adjust each car every time you leave a lobby. It sounds counter intuitive but it makes the wheel feel great. Make sure you have the correct settings in Content manager as well.

I love the design of this device. I watched the engineering video they posted about it and was almost sold on the spot. The price is even better.
They talk about how the inertia of the wheel is lower because of the design, allowing it to feel more responsive. I've heard from some people in sim communities that have said it feels like an 8-9 Nm wheel, even when it's peak torque is only about 5-6.
I think for a lot of people, in the casual sim racing market, especially truck sim customers, this could very easily be a forever wheel for them.
I'm just trying to decide if I want to buy this now to start learning DD FFB, or wait to take out a loan and upgrade everything all at the same time.

What i think hes talking about is high end innovation to make it cheaper but i personally feel like the low end stuff is where they will make most of their money so its better to focus on it.

Its an XT60 DC input for the power. They're used extensively on RC aircraft and FPV drones. They can tend to get loose when you crash your quad into metal gates at 150km/h but to fix that all you need to do is put a screwdriver into the male end and split the end of the bullets back out a little bit more. I don't really see any reason for a stationary wheelbase and power supply to have that issue and 30 second fix and its super sturdy again! Just thought I'd mention that for anyone hesitant about the input power.

That's a very smart design. This is likely where the future of these sim wheels will go, as it'll become easy to supply this type of motor housing as motors continue to develop better and better, and using a small low power motor doesnt require any fancy mounting bracket designs or size. I genuinely think beyond the shifters, this looks super solid. I would like to hear about this from people as people use em for longer to see if they last or perform well.

They mounted the Core of the motor instead of the body. Thus you are actually trying to hold the outer casing of the motor, Its a genius design for a compact wheel. It does put a TON of force on your mounting surface though, so for people like me with a wood mounting surface in their rig. You may need to Upgrade the mount for this. I will probably hold off to see if I can swap wheels, as I drive Trucks with my rig, so the little racing wheel is kind of a deal breaker, but I am definitely interested in this. I could also mount Turn signal and retarder stalks where they would naturally be which would be awesome. As I drive trucks mostly, 5 NM is more than enough.

Just a heads-up: PMSM doesn't mean the rotor is on the outside, it just means that it uses permanent magnets and doesn't rely on slip to generate torque. Motors that have the rotor on the outside are called generally called outrunners, and it's my understanding that Fanatec also uses outrunners. They allow for more pole pairs than an inrunner and can allow you to get more torque than an inrunner for the same current.
In any case, the wheel is connected to the rotor, so it's not surprising that the C5 inertia isn't that far off from the Fanatec you compared it to. The only practical difference between the two is that you can't see the rotor of the Fanatec because it's inside the housing of the base.

Got my c5 last week. The power is super strong. My hand hurts after a lap at nordschleife. It is at least 3 times stronger than my g29. My cheap aluminium profile rig is flexing a lot especially at the wheel mounting plate since it uses thin metal plate😅😅. I dont recommend that you mount this wheel to a desk if you want to use 100% ffb.
It is built solid. Suprisingly the small paddle shifter doesn't bother me. But the D shaped wheel really bothers me a lot. I cant catch the wheel properly when coming out of a slide and It is compounded by the strong ffb. I tried drifting with the wheel but i think the wheel is too fast on the transition and that always ends the drift midway. Maybe i am still getting used to it since i am coming from g29.
You have to turn on the Cammus software if you want the speedometer and rev light working.
There is a settings called CF filter in the cammus software that adds details to the wheel just like logitech wheel. But it is also added a weird vibrations that starts at high frequency and goes to lower frequency as you drive faster in game and it is counter intuitive. If you put too much CF filter your wheel will become too noisy and your hand will become numb. If too less CF filter, you cannot feel the road and curb texture. I also noticed that every car needs different CF filter level.
The wheel got really hot after a few laps at nordschleife at 100% power. The fan seems a bit too far from the vents and not doing much cooling. I am 3d printing a shroud to directs the air into one of the vents available. That said, i have not experienced power fade even with the hot motor.
P/s: tested on og assetto corsa only
Update: after an hour of practising drift and lowered the ffb to 50%, i can say that it is a bliss to drift with a direct drive wheel. So easy and less effort required.
Update 2: Bought ACC. The force feedback is absolutely fine. Loved how the game convey road detail and tyre slip to the wheel. I can easily maintain slip angle now.

I just got mine's two days ago. Overall quality is good, but those buttons, knobs and shifting paddle are definitely plastic on mine instead of aluminum or metal. I'm good with the FFB in ACC and rF2, but still struggle to find a universal ffb setup across different genre of cars in AC.
Sadly how Cammus setup those 3 rotary encoders (1 knob represent as 10 momentary switches) basically rendering those 3 knobs useless in games.
That active cooling fan are constantly running making noises almost as if someone putting a gamming laptop in front of the desk is quite annoying too.
Overall it's still a good alternative for loghitech wheels which I upgraded from. Fanatec bundle might be better if there is available locally, shipping them from US or JP will probably cost 100~150USD, let along dealing with warranty issue.

Very well said. Between C5 and R5 bundles I believe R5 is the best option just for two reasons.
    1) Shifters: R5 has decent shifters. I really don't understand how Cammus chose so small shifters. 😕
    2) Pedals: Again R5 bundle has the option to upgrade current pedals with MOZA SR-P Lite Brake Pedal Performance Kit and with MOZA SR-P Lite Clutch Pedal for less 100$ which is very value for money. On the other side Cammus gives no option except LC100 pedals which are more expensive than complete (with clutch) MOZA SR-P Pedals.
So C5 could have been the best sim racing package if it had normal shifters and good upgradable pedals.
Another downside for Cammus is the shipping costs in Europe that increase the total purchase. 😞

The fit and finish looks good. Seems to me that they should have included the table mount as part of the kit (as Logitech do). I wonder if the relatively large diameter of the motor part helps with the torque? Makes me think of e-bike hub motors being narrow, but fairly large diameter and quite powerful.

Not to cast aspersions on the potential racers that will be using this, but it does look an awful lot like a wheel straight out of a dodgems (bumper) car.

I highly recommend the C5 over the fanatec DD pro.

Not having a upgrade path and the heating issue concerns me most I’m new to sim racing so my first wheel has to last me a while but I don’t wanna outgrow my gear but this is a awesome option
