I love my Moza R5 bundle with the brake mod and clutch pedal. It's not the top-of-the-line product but for a hobby racer it's a giant step up from a G29. I went from barely being able to stay on the track with a G29, to winning races in ACC with my Moza R5. Worth every penny! I don't see the need for 8lbs of resistance, the R5 gives plenty. Others have commented the same. Like Will says, you probably would end up fighting the wheel straining to stay on track versus driving. Something I just don't understand why you would want so much resistance.

@@Lutzilla_ I don’t really get a lot of clipping and I race pcup in iracing. I got the gt wheel mod in addition to the clutch and brake mod since I’m racing mostly pcup and will move to gt3 when I get my b class since that was a $30 upgrade to get 85% there instead of 500 for a gt wheel.
Probably will get load cells before I upgrade anything on the base/wheel side of things.

similar boat... I have a G27 wheel and pedals. I already received the Moza S-RP two pedal set and really nice (have a clutch pedal on the way). The few laps I've completed felt good but will need some lapping to really get comfortable. Tomorrow I'll see the Moza R9 V2 base and CS V2 wheel. Looking forward to see what my lap time difference will look like on ACC. I was decently competitive on LFM servers (mid pack pace mostly) with my G27. Hoping I'll see a similar jump that you saw with your R5 from the G29.

Just want to say that I have had a bit of buyers remorse since purchasing the R5. I was about to crack and buy the g29 about 4 months ago but learned about DD mainly through this youtube channel. So I was saving up for either the CSL DD or the Moza R5. I pulled the trigger last week and My R5 is coming this wednesday.
So I started researching things like Wheels to get for it and FFb Settings and everywhere I keep hearing things like you loose feedback by getting wheels. And also issues about clipping like what @elkay7437 is saying
But this comment really eases the mind. I mean you would think that logically going from G29 to R5 at the very least will make things better than the G29 so its just disheartening to hear things like "oh well your gonna clip a lot might as well just go R9".
And its like wtf man the R9 setup is way more expensive. The whole point of the R5 is to start off on a budget and eventually upgrade parts out.
But this was my main question is how do people feel about racing in ACC specifically with the R5 and your comment + some of the discord replies have been useful. There are definitely fast people with the R5.
My plan is to use the R5 for the next 6 months at least and maybe upgrade to the R12. I do want more feedback response eventually but I dont think I would ever run it at R12. The point for me would be to run it lower and use the headroom to finetune details.
But for now for someone who has never had a wheel Im going to stick with my R5 and learn to drive with it. And get Loadcell pedals way before I upgrade the R5 to the R12. I also plan on sticking to the GT wheel mod for the R5 because Ill mainly be playing ACC (possibly I racing if I get the 12in mod).
Supposedly the GT mod is insanely good because the weight of it is halved making the FFB even more intense on the small wheel then it already was giving so much feedback to what you need to do.
A bit of buyers remorse initially but man I'm so glad to finally be getting a wheel, I been watching sim racing videos for months!

Then purchased optional clutch, handbrake and h shifter. Can't be more satisfied! That standalone module unit is a brilliant piece of kit. Well done Moza definitely makes me consider your products going forward. Great to see a manufacturer open up their products for more users outside of their ecosystem.
Have a small mige osw unit that I'm currently setting up and going through the process of making Fanatec rim compatible. Having a kit available and supported from the manufacturer is a huge plus compared to the hassle and cost of sourcing all the 3rd party add-on parts required on the Fanatec end and would definitely make me lean towards the Moza rims going forward if more rims were supported, especially combined with that excellent quick release.

I just ordered an R5 bundle with the break upgrade and the gt style rim. I'm upgrading from a g29. To be honest since I don't have a console, I don't mind the lack of support on that field. The other thing which is why I chose moza is because the price. I can get this a lot cheaper than other brands like fanatec, since my country is ass in terms of money. Also if you think about it, moza is pretty new to the game and they already "almost" caught up with the big boys. This is a very remarkable progress for a new company in such short time. They also aren't a huge company and stuff in terms of software will most probably improve. As you could hear on the video, they constantly pushing out updates on the software, which means "they hear the voice of the masses", so in my opinion it's only a matter of time before you can customise you dash. And also, being able to use their wheels with other bases is a huge thumbs up in my opinion. Even if it's a little clumsy now, it will get better with software updates, since the flickering and bugging out most probably comes from some software unoptimization. With the efforts I see from this company, I really think they will grow much bigger in the sim scene!

Yeah, it's certainly a lot easy to get hold of Moza kit because they're distributing it rather than forcing everyone to order directly as fanatec do. Post brexit in the UK that makes a big difference too. I could order a bunch of moza hardware now and it'd be here tomorrow morning and I know if something were faulty I can easily get a replacement because I know the retailer I'm getting it from has a good reputation. Not only that, fantac appear to have their website running on someone's old laptop - it's so slow it makes configuring what to buy painful. The times I've tried I've just given up - before I figured I'd have to just get a belt wheel instead (because that was all that the retailers who can afford a web site sell) but now they're selling moza you can buy a DD wheel with a few clicks on a fast website and get it delivered the next day.

I have the Moza CRP pedals and happy with it. I came from Logitech G27 pedals so hard to compare for me. Only downside was that it was squeeking (from rubber to metal) but that is getting less and less. I mostly choose these because I didn't want a mix of brands since I heard from our racing league some have issues with firmare and software.
Also I got the R9 together with the GT wheel. I am currently setting this up but I am having a hard time setting it up in rfactor 2 because I don't really know how it should feel. What is best way to approach this? For example when driving in the pits my whole simlab rig is shaking because the low motor RPM. I guess that is not normal? Also when setting it at 100% I almost could not steer it :D Maybe I need more muscle XD I can not imagine someone someone would need more then 9NM except when you are real racing driver

Many look at the maximum peak N.m of the motor and think that is the guideline. I would suggest that having the overhead above the level you want is very important. I use my Fanatec DD2 for about 11 N.m and it just runs cool forever and super quick. I used to have a DD1 and find the DD2 to be more responsive and remains cooler. Overtime is worth getting a high end wheelbase even if just using it half way.

Great video. I have just started sim racing with R5 bundle. Liked most things except for brake and paddle shifters. So I bought CRP pedals and the H shifter. Awesome upgrade!
    1) Personally I like R5 base. Torque is enough for me and it has a small form factor.
    2) CRP pedals are a big improvement to the SRP Lites. Also for the adjustability. You can tune most things to fit your preference. Throttle blip works also with this combo so that is good.
    3) ES wheel is nice. Good size for most things. Like the button layout. Could be round instead of slight D shape I agree with that. Too bad I can not change to the fancier wheels but I don't feel I miss them now anyway.
    4) H shifter is great. Good value for money and personally, gate pattern replicates my real car exactly, (except for I don't have 7th gear on it).
    5) I use SIM dashboard with a 10" tablet. It is really awesome. You can swipe between layouts if you drive different cars. Much customization options here.
    6) If someone wonders what game, I run Forza Horizon 5 now 😀
So now I feel very happy with everything. Should have bought the R5 base alone perhaps and added the ES, CRP and shifter. Now I need to sell of the SRP Lites and who's gonna buy that?! I might add a handbrake in the future. Happy riding!

I use the r5 base, es wheel and srp lite pedals. I think the r5 is very suitable for amateur players, but the 330mm wheels will be a bit difficult, and the srp lite is a bit soft. Some shopping platforms and stores have springs that increase the hardness. I plan to buy gs wheel, I think it works well on r5.

    • @michael1
      @michael1 10 місяців тому

Yeah, it's a bundle for people, imo, who fasten their wheel to their desk, put the pedals on the floor - and who never intend to change that. I have a driving force GT and the brake pedal is similarly resistance free, but I have the pedals on the floor under my desk and they don't slide around. Similarly you can screw the DFGT to a desk and it's going to be fine because there's not a lot of force.
A really powerful DD wheel clamped to a desk would be an issue. But 5.5nm you're probably ok so long as you make sure it is secured (Sometimes I occasionally pull my dfgt off the desk because you don't quite get it secured well - which I wouldn't fancy doing with a lump of metal especially when I have a VR headset on and can't see anything)
Obviously if I got load cell pedals then I'd need to secure them somehow. You can't push several kg force and expect a few bits of rubber to resist the movement. So although you might be able to brace behind the pedals you're most likely going to buy a rig of some kind with a seat and so on. Once you buy a rig you don't need the weaker ffb. Nor do you need a table clamp and you don't need the cheap pedals anymore - but thats half the stuff in the bundle. So the upgrade path for the r5 bundle doesn't exist. You need a completely different pedal set (and spring set), perhaps a mounting plate adapter - and you have a bunch of stuff you paid for in the bundle that you don't need - and that no one else will want to buy from you either.
You'd save money by not getting the bundle at the point you want to upgrade it. So it really is an option, imo, for people who never expect to upgrade. Which is fair enough, I bought the DFGT in 2009 and I'm still using it 14 years later. I'm sure people exist who would do the same with the R5 bundle and they'll have a much better driving experience using it too than I've had - albeit perhaps the same issues braking.
But if you're thinking you want to start with some DD kit and, over time, upgrade it to build a better and better sim rig as many do, well the bundle is a bit of a dead end. You'd be better buying things individually imo. Specifically if you start with a rig - something that will hold a wheel and pedals securely, then you should get the sr-p pedals. At that point you could still get the R5 base and ES wheel and have a great experience - really you wouldn't need any "upgrades" that would make your laptimes lower. You could throw money at better VR, PC upgrades etc instead. If you ever wanted to upgrade though, well you'd have pedals that other people would probably buy used from you rather than just a cheap set that came in a bundle that only exist because they won't slide around on the floor - they're actually next to useless for their intended purpose.
Now, if the pedals had been such that the load cell was a upgrade kit, well then it would be better. I would probably be more keen to buy the R5 bundle if I thought I could upgrade the brakes (and I mean upgrade properly not add a spring - I don't think their upgrade kit will really make it any easier to trail brake with them) - the other thing too is that if you buy stuff separately and something goes wrong with one part, you can return that one part, but with the bundle it's likely the retailer will expect the bundle returned. e.g I've heard of people having a switch on the wheel stop working - well you have to ship everything back in a box to just get the ES wheel replaced? That would suck. Maybe the manufacturer buying direct would replace one bit, but the retailer aren't going to have stock of individual things and they can't really return one part of a bundle for a refund etc.

A great comprehensive comparison video!! Do any of the MOZA wheels yet support auto-rotation for in-game steering lock (the equivalent of the "AUTO" sensitivity setting on Fanatec)? That seems to be the only glaring omission in their ecosystem. No possible way serious sim racers would want a single rotation setting per title, nor would they want to have to fiddle with settings every time you change cars when sims support auto-rotation for more than a decade now.

The other plus for these pedals is that their faces are completely flat, from top to bottom, and I can put my whole foot there, I found I like it much more than only pressing the pedal with the top of my foot. I have the Moza R21 the FSR wheel and the CRP pedals. I cant pick any faults with the wheelbase and wheel however. I would say the Pedals are a bit clunky at times. I have been playing around with them for about 5 months now and finally found a spring and elastic feeling i like. I would also say ive had to grease them, up with the grease they provide in the box. By doing this i have got rid of a lot of noise. You do need to mess about with the setup in the sofware this will also help with how they feel.
I haven't had the pleasure of racing with other pedals so cant compare.
I do however really like them and wouldnt change them.
on a side note what i will say is Moza seem to be doing lots of updates at the moment and since the last one im finding the FSR wheel screen freezing. Not sure if thats an issue with iracing or the moza software.

Still no dedicated Formula wheel with screen (other than teased Bentley which is probably going to be 2k due to useless real car compatibility) no illuminated buttons etc

I'm glad there's a company like Moza that can provide an alternative to Fanatec but I am a bit baffled about the cross compatibility of the different tiers. Like why can't all wheel rims work on any base? And also 3 different pedals tiers doesn't really make sense.

I think the confusing wheels compatibility stems from the fact they first decided to go with only wireless connection, but later found out it has issues for some people, plus they wanted to dip into the cheapest tier of DD. This required adding a wired connection (through the base, not a separate cable), and this is what they are doing right now - upgrading their wireless-only products to "v2" versions that support both wireless and wired.
