"Your move, Fanatec." Says everyone, for the last three years. It's been so long since Fanatec released something new. Waited 2 years for them to release a dashed wheel. I eventually got tired of waiting and got the FSR Wheel when the Moza hub and adapter was released. Love it. Quick release was game changing attached to my DD2, and it's difficult to go back. Been looking at getting another Moza wheel like this one so I don't have to take off the Podium hub and move my pedals and chair around switching to my Fanatec Formula rim. Moza's just been hitting it out of the park with every release. Only thing that's missing is console support. Would also love to see them add Simhub compatibility with their dashes.

I do hope this puts some pressure on fanatec to release a base in between the 8nm cslDD and tthe DD1 ( maybe with the same boost pack approach as the DD with options for, let's say, 10nm or 15nm)
Wow I recently ordered the R12 for $589 US. Didn't know it was a price drop from the then $649 R9, which is now $439. Got the $279 KS wheel compared to a $519 Cube F Core. Great deal Moza

Glad I have held out an extra couple of weeks. Was set on the Asetek Forte but not needing an extra mount this has saved me over £600. Upgrading from a Clubsport 2.5 and McLaren V2 wheel onto my GT Omega Prime. Im sticking with the Fanatec V3's as I just love the feel of them so hoping they make a good pairing. Hoping to get many good years out of this. I always value your opinions Will, keep up the good work .
Great. Just purchased an r9 from microcenter. They do not currently carry the R12. But im going to return the R9 anyway and wait for the stock for the R12. No sim racing for me until then. Hopefully microcenter stocks them soon.
I'm currently eying with the La Prima Wheelbase as it did hit my sweet spot for price value ratio. Only what made me a bit hesitant is that there is currently only the formula wheel available and I do love to drive the 90s dtm and stock cars as well as rally which just doesn't work with the la prima Formula wheel. This new base looks great! Always happy to see more entries in the market. Just last weekend I ordered a simagic alpha mini w/ Fanatec Elite V2 pedals. The base hasn't shipped yet; would you say this wheel base would have a significant upgrade over the mini? It's rated for 10nm but independent reviewers have noted that it can actually peak as 13nm, so I suppose these 2 bases are about the same in that regard. Thanks!
I just got an R9 a few months ago and the GS V2 wheel the other week. Very typical that a better wheel base for not much more money and a cheaper rim come out. Ah well, been enjoying it nonetheless.
I'm a bit confused about how it isnt cabon fiber. You said it is carbon fiber reinforced polymer, or CFRP, but that is how you always use carbon fiber. When creating stuff from carbon fiber, you use carbon fiber weaves and coat that with epoxy (plastic) to create a hard material. Is this wheel not made of CFRP in the usual way?
CF and CFRP are not the same thing. Carbon Fibre is generally made up of multiple stacked layers. This is a single injection moulded layer so it’s nowhere near as rigid.
@@boostedmedia I understand if this is just one layer, but even with multiple layers it is still called CFRP. You always use epoxy with the carbon fibre EDIT: (At least for this application. Other applications may use CF in different ways)
I want to upgrade my T300 soon, I already got the Fanatec CSL Elite V2 Pedals so I dont know if I should go for a Moza base/wheel or stick to Fanantec but this KS wheel + the R9 is a very tempting set.
can't you use the CSL elite v2 pedals standalone? nothing stopping you from just using those with the moza base/wheel if that's the case. Don't need to box yourself in to using just 1 brand if you're on PC anyways
This looks really nice. Price of the GS rim was putting me off even tho it looks like a stunning wheel. This one is not as good looking but still a while lot better than asetek imo. I've just bought the R9 6 days ago... I wish Moza would make an announcement a couple of weeks prior to releasing their products, it's pretty frustrating.
Was interested until you mentioned the drifting issues, with how smooth the csl dd is, I don't think I can make any compromise for less fidelity or snappy response. Always appreciate the detailed reviews!
I wouldnt take his advice on drifting when he cant even drift.. pretty sure he's just diagnosing loss of traction or hitting a steering lock and doesnt understand what he's feeling
I've run into the same thing with drifting on my own Moza bases - all you need to do is disable the "hands off protection." It's meant to prevent oscillation, but will kick in when drifting too. Turn that off and you'll be golden.
On the KS wheel are the buttons already pre-labeled as seen in the video? Or does it come with stickers to put on the buttons to make it your own layout?
The rotary encoders are prelabelled but there are additional stickers you can overlay. The push buttons are not labelled out of the box and you can apply the supplied stickers.
If I were to get this wheel and the r5 base, can I use those two with my Thrustmaster T-LCM's? If so, what cables/other accessories would I have to buy to make it work? (PC)

Fanatec are sleeping and they have been for years. It pains me to say that because I own a Podium DD1 and I'm fully invested in the ecosystem - I just wish they released some new wheel rims - almost all the competition has got a GT/Formula style wheel with a screen and Fanatec don't seem to be bothered :/ They are losing customers with every release like this one and rightly so
Console competition in the future? It's great to see the new products and competitive pricing in the market for PC wheelbase and wheels. Do you think will get more competition in the console direct drive market soon? Thanks for the video.
been seeing a bunch going up for sale not long after they bought it, makes me think its not as good as they hoped. im in market for a dd so if anybody has any input on that let me know.
Great review, as always! Just a quick note on one thing you said: Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) is literally the designation of any part made out of carbon fibre. You have a polymer (the resin that acts like the matrix) reinforced with carbon fibre strands. So, when you see a "real" carbon fibre piece, it is a CFRP piece. Thanks!
Fair play to Moza I got the R5 Bundle 4/5 Months ago to replace a G920, didn't use the pedals as already had TCLMs. Everything from the ordering, packaging, quality of product, software has all been top notch. The Fanatec stuff was constantly on back order so I went Moza as a 2nd choice but glad I did now. I'm just using a desk mount so going beyond 5NM would probably destroy the desk but if I ever get a proper rig and wanted more strength would defo stick with Moza.
I’m actually loving this back and forth with these two companies I hope Fanatec do make a move that gamers will like, it helps us customers. If Moza get Console support PS5 for me then I might actually consider them over Fanatec tbh.
Even if Fanatec do produce a response, good luck getting one and navigating the atrocious customer service and delivery. It’s almost like they don’t actually want you to buy from them sometimes. Eventually got there in the end though! 👍
@@Gregg4886 8 months later and I just cancelled my Fanatec order and went with Moza. Fanatec has lost the battle, which sucks because they used to be my go to brand
Once u disable hand off protection in pit house the issue with the wheel feeling like it lost connection while drifting and changing directions very fast is gone :) Makes sense but they should make it more clear that u need to disable it for drifting.
That KS wheel is absolutely the perfect entry-level GT racing rim I've ever seen. I have been doing tons of research of what's all available and pricing out what I want for my upgraded rig setup, and was mostly on board with the Moza ecosystem, but that KS wheel just sealed the deal. I wasn't sure I could afford the GS V2 but wanted something along that line, and was leaning towards the Fanatec Mclaren GT3 wheel and ecosystem because of it. Now that's been settled completely. Incredible effort from Moza.
I have always been keen on Moza, almost went R9, but now r12 + KS is what i would get. The tricky part is that fanatec's deals right now on CSL DD soo good its hard not to go that way
Dude I won't regret it I have a R12 CRP pedals setup and a R5 bundle that's my backup or so a buddy or family member can play with me yeah I'm honestly blown away by Moza's R12 it's so good
@@boostedmedia hahaha sometimes you dont see the obvious. but as i got into williams yesterday in my f1 23 league, i remembered it on first sight :D tbh. i love the design! and i really hope fanatec gives us new formula wheels and new bases... their stuff is a bit outdated..... :S
Love to see the Micro Center support. I'm lucky enough to have one near me and their selection and prices are really awesome, and the people are great too. There's nowhere else to really go to see computer hardware, let alone sim hardware, in person. I experienced direct drive for the first time when I was there last weekend and it has me itching to upgrade. The R12 fits the bill really well, so this is tempting for when I upgrade. If Fanatec come out with something in this range though I'll probably go for that since I could then keep my Formula 2.5 wheel with the paddle module that I love. I don't want to settle for 8nm with the CSL DD but the Podium bases are just way too expensive for me. You're right, there's a huge hole in their ecosystem that they should really fill.
A 12nm wheelbase still in a smalll form factor and a cheaper formula wheel without the unnecessary (IMO) screen? This is exactly what I've dreamed of and it's getting extremely hard to resist pulling the trigger on this kit.
@@delasse3178 Idunno man, the CR-Ps have been absolutely phenomenal for me in my setup, I think they've worked out a lot of the random noisy bits in QA since many of the reviews for the pedals came out. The metal and heft of it feels really nice. Only downside is they can't be inverted at the moment. But regardless, if you don't need console compatibility, you could always do any of the many other high end pedal choices. Or get a Raso1ution (or whatever its called) adapter and do the same on console, idk if theres such a need to remain in just one ecosystem nowadays.
I had the same problem pushing the joysticks to go into the buttons color mod and it turns out I had to push both joysticks inwards (left to the right and right to the left)
im really starting to regret buying the logitech g pro, I love the fact that it is essentially plug and play but for gods sake can Logitech release a GT3 or formula style rim already...
They still haven’t even shared a roadmap for new wheels. I have no idea what’s going on over there but it’s really not instilling confidence in the ecosystem.
What I've come to realize with configuring these DD wheel bases for drifting it's all about balancing the FFB power with the dampener settings. You want to have a responsive wheel and that can be achieved by lower FFB Gain but then you have to lower the dampener so the wheel can start rotating as soon as it can. Or you could go high FFB Gain setting but then you have to put a lot of dampening to compensate for the wheel rotating to quickly and being too eratic. Finding the balance is the key and it can depend from person to person some people like it to be low intensity so they can control the drift easier some like it higher. This also depends what wheel rim you're running how wide it is, how heavy etc ... inertia and all that.
@@boostedmedia its a shame that simagic's pr team lets them down. I went for simagic before moza had really hit the scene but moza have made positive strides lately and seem to be more inclusive with the community than simagic, If I had to choose again I probably would have gone with moza but I do love the quality of simagic products.
@@boostedmedia Sorry to hear that, I missed it for some reason. Hopefully you can resolve your differences in the future, in the name of life is too short and all that. :-)
I had to return my R9, while I was using it at 80% FFB it would get too hot and reduce the FFB to 10% within and hour of use, really annoying, If I were to use the R12 at 9-10nm because there is more of a threshold would this problem be less likely so happen?
Great review . It looks like I’ll need to save up just a little longer. Also I like the micro center support. Me and my son often make a yearly 6hr drive to our nearest micro center.
The wheel side to side wiggle is a item to item variance from what I can tell. My brother and I both bought the original R9 with GS wheel, his does not have the wiggle but mine does. I do not notice during racing. I suspect it has something to do with how the milling on either the base shaft connection point, or parts of the quick disconnect itself. I have yet to actually measure to find out, but I suspect it is a variance that could be accounted for by a part getting too hot during milling and expanding.
Yep just like with Fanatec it would be down to the percentage of tolerance in the sleeve and shaft. THat said, I've observed far less variance with Moza than Fanatec with regards to the QR. All my Moza wheels and bases so far have fit pretty snugly.
@boosted media from my experience the disconnection issue mainly comes from drifting as i experience it on my r9. i seem to have narrowed it down to the hands off protection in the firmware, this has not always been a issue and i have only noticed it in the last few months. with hand off protection disabled i have no longer had any disconnection issues
Running an R5 base currently, and finding out the KS wheel is a bit lighter than the ES wheel, and nearly as light as with the formula wheel mod, this should be absolutely great even on the R5! Found my next upgrade, along with the 12 inch wheel mod instead of the formula 😅
You didn't quite seem to finish the reasoning with regards to filtering/dampening on the R12 vs R9 and R5. Is the takeaway that the R12 is now on level with the likes of Forte/CSL DD etc. when it comes to filtering? I.e. R12 needs much less of it compared to R9? I'm referring to this: ------------- "Now the things that stood out to me about the R12 comparing with the R9 one of the complaints that I've had previously about moza wheelbases is that you do tend to need to run a little bit more filtering than with some other brands to achieve a smooth overall feel. So what I would find is I'd have to run the dampening quite high for example [...] I found in the past with moza bases if you don't have that filtering in place they can feel just that little bit robotic in comparison to other alternatives." -------------- And it stops there. But it sounds like you're saying that this is not an issue anymore with the R12, is that correct?
Not quite at the same level as the Forte, but definetly a step closer with regards to not needing heavy filtering to achieve a good feel compared with past experiences.
Damn, so Fanatec went and cut prices for the P1 bundle renamed ready2race 5nm DD that can be upgraded to 8nm. And then moza releases these. Interesting and this is good for consumers. Although r12 is definitely still expensive. Id rather have them release a wheelbase that can be upgraded to higher FB nm.
I think I’m going to pull the trigger on the R12! Thank you for this review. Upgraded to an ASR1 rig and now pairing it with Moza R12. Really excited to see how different it’s going to be from My G29 setup.
Fanatec CSW DD finally coming maybe? They already lowered the price of the CSL DD by alot, would make sense to be able to place the CSW cometitively on the market?
Fanatec legit isn’t even trying. Honestly, they really haven’t released anything worth a damn in years. I’m talking about things within reasonable price.
Hey Will im going from a Thrustmaster TS XW to Moza should i go straight to the R12 or is the R9 sufficient, $250 price difference dont want to upgrade for about 5 years after this. Using CS V2 wheel and maybe the KS Wheel PS do i need a emergency stop if i get the R12

Will it work with a fanatec wheel base?
would the wheel work on fanatec csl DD 8nm and would i need to purchase fanatec quick release plus moza hub ?
or would i be better off getting fanatec mclaren v2 for value
I’d say just get the Mclaren wheel if you’re using a fanatec base. Keeps things much more simple.
Would you recommend the GS or KS for GT racing?
I think the GS is tough to recommend considering the price difference. But it’s a nicer wheel if you can afford it.
@@boostedmedia thanks! Functionally, do you have a preference?
Fanatec’s major problem is customer support and fulfillment.
Just invest 200 euros more and you get VRS dfp. I think only viable base from Moza is R9.
been seeing a bunch going up for sale not long after they bought it, makes me think its not as good as they hoped. im in market for a dd so if anybody has any input on that let me know.
All we need is console compatibility. Love that they're pushing the envelope and making prices more competitive!
It’s too much money to get console license… it’s not worth it for smaller sim companies
I 100% doubt that a Company like Moza or Cammus will ever have Console Compatibility
They may announce Xbox support in mid-July
I run my Moza 5 on Xbox via a third party dongle, the Ras1ution 2 from Brooks Gaming. Works great!
@@cornbreadsfishing1036 How does the FFB feels? It does emulate other wheels, right?
Glad you got the Microcenter sponsorship. You deserve it mate.
i work at microcenter, cool to see this!
Was just looking through their store and was suprised to see a new wheel so came here to see what was going on, always great reviews for new tech.
This KS wheel is exactly what I was hoping for. I’m still pretty new to sim racing and just couldn’t justify the price of the other two GT wheels.
If Moza gets console compatibility I will switch over from Fanatec without hesitation.
Why not just buy a computer lol
100% get that console compatibility sorted!!! 🙏🙏

Moza must have raised their prices, at least for Australia? I am seeing $499 for the KS Wheel and $1,059 for the R12
Not sure. The pricing listed is the pricing they supplied us with last week when we were shooting.
The title of this video aged VERY well…
At Fanatec's pace they might release a 12 NM wheelbase 10 years from now 😂
Try Logitechs pace... Still waiting for the first wheel, heck I'd take an announcement
Thrustmaster said they would release 3 wheels for the new t818 this q2 but still nothing, and pedals haven't even been mentioned
The tricky part is that fanatec's deals right now on CSL DD soo good its hard not to go that way
Same boat - R12 and KS Wheel just landed today...........now waiting on the table mount.
alpha mini way better
Dude I won't regret it I have a R12 CRP pedals setup and a R5 bundle that's my backup or so a buddy or family member can play with me yeah I'm honestly blown away by Moza's R12 it's so good
first thought - the steering wheel looks like the williams f1 wheel :D but it looks GOOD!!!
Haha I hadn't made that connection but you're right!
Very tempted to ditch Fanatec for this setup. Great price and amazing features. Pretty much what I was looking for in a setup.
the pedals though. even their best pedals aren't good. that to me makes fanatec more appealing.
@@delasse3178 I'm on PC. I can get better pedals.
@@wwjnz9263 For the same price, what is better?
I had the same problem pushing the joysticks to go into the buttons color mod and it turns out I had to push both joysticks inwards (left to the right and right to the left)
Yep. The instruction manual I was sent was incorrect. Just figured it out about an hour ago.
im really starting to regret buying the logitech g pro, I love the fact that it is essentially plug and play but for gods sake can Logitech release a GT3 or formula style rim already...
It's a shame they dropped the LED, it could be turned off in Pithouse if you didn't like it and was useful when diagnosing FFB loss.
pretty sure the ffb cut when drifting is the hands off protection
Bingo.
Once Moza gets console support for a decent price, I'm pretty sure they'll be flying past Fanatec in no time.
Compare it to the Simagic Alpha Mini 10, it gets better reviews.
We don’t review any simagic products anymore after the treatment we have received in the past and seeing how they have bullied other reviewers.
That's what i would like to know too
The wheel I have been waiting for, great price/value option to pair with my r9. Can't wait to use it on ACC. Just ordered from Abruzzi in the UK. ;)
I just ordered the wheel base and wheel from the same place.
Microcenter sales after this video 📈
Why is the r12 not compatible with the e stop switch if it has an input?
I'm referring to this:
-------------
"Now the things that stood out to me about the R12 comparing with the R9 one of the complaints that I've had previously about moza wheelbases is that you do tend to need to run a little bit more filtering than with some other brands to achieve a smooth overall feel. So what I would find is I'd have to run the dampening quite high for example [...] I found in the past with moza bases if you don't have that filtering in place they can feel just that little bit robotic in comparison to other alternatives."
--------------
And it stops there. But it sounds like you're saying that this is not an issue anymore with the R12, is that correct?
Not quite at the same level as the Forte, but definetly a step closer with regards to not needing heavy filtering to achieve a good feel compared with past experiences.
@@boostedmedia Robotic = cogging?
I'd get the R9 and spend the money saved on a wheel upgrade.
Now if Moza could just partner with HP for a "G3" headset replacement, specifically for the Sim market (including flight sims).
Would it be possible to do some kind of review on 3rd party options that run the Moza wheel base with a console?!
When they can figure out how to make a Wheel work for a PlayStation, then I will care about this company. Until then it doesn’t matter what they do.
You can buy an adapter. It's something
Does anyone know if the R9 or R12 base pushes the rim further forward than the R5 base, when mounted on the same bracket/frame ?
Thnx !
Incredible value. Especially the wheel is something I have been expecting from Fanatec for a while.
Hey Will im going from a Thrustmaster TS XW to Moza should i go straight to the R12 or is the R9 sufficient, $250 price difference dont want to upgrade for about 5 years after this. Using CS V2 wheel and maybe the KS Wheel PS do i need a emergency stop if i get the R12
roflmao, Fanatec fails to bring out a new QR for years and years after everyone is complaining... so don't waste your breath lol... they will have an answer in about 20 years ;)
Now Fanatec just needs a Clubsport DD Base :)
