He’s not making us look bad. He’s showing us a mirror.
This song is old and it still holds true to today’s society. Such a powerful message.
Talk about old... Don Henley did it first in the 80's with Dirty Laundry... lol
TooL is timeless
Name a single song that Tool has done that just does not hold true today..everything they do is timeless and reigns true to any timeline
@@Theutus2It doesn’t matter who did it first. It’s about who had the bigger impact.
More today then when the song was made a lot more today
The first step in addressing a problem is the acknowledgment of it’s existence.
is it truly a problem though? Or is it just nature? If you try to defy nature it will backlash hard. Dont be ignorant
MJK is such a brilliant lyricist. Absolutely elite. I always get the chills at the climax of this song and I’ve heard it hundreds of times.
The long intros and instrumental breaks are there because the music is just as important as the lyrics. Not one thing is in the spotlight, the whole band is there. It’s to compliment the song. Could you imagine a 3 minute Pneuma radio edit single 😅 lmao. That would actually be kinda hilarious
There is no intro or outro for vicarious on the album
@@MBP208 definitely atleast a 45 sec intro on the track and the point of the comment still remains intact, because the whole point of saying that was to say the music is no more important than the lyrics. Vice versa. Thank you for not taking the second to read the whole comment before blurting out. Good day sir
@@matthewbryan1425 oh for sure. I’m just saying there are no whale sounds before or after the song on the album
@@MBP208just the weird sounds they do aren't their only intros. They have intros, outros & interludes with drums & bass
@@WTFMBWTFMCWTFMyR yeah. I know. I listen to tool damn near everyday.
What makes Tool great is that the songs are thoughtful, deep and cause us to think.
This is still probably my favorite Tool song.
Maynard (frontman for Tool) has several bands he's been a part of. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are two others off the top of my head.
But if you want a good song that Maynard has done that is almost a reflection of this song with a message about how humanity can be better, you should check out his song from the band Puscifer called "The Humbling River"
Re intros: this longer intro is not included in the album version, however tool regularly include those kinds of intros and interludes as sonic palate cleansers. Like taking a drink of a seltzer before biting into a nice juicy bison burger :D
Check out Descending off of Fear Inoculum, you'll enjoy it thoroughly.
Also gives Adam an opportunity to show off his creative work.
The real point is we aren’t inherently good or evil, it’s a spectrum judged by the observer, the worst moment you critique yourself for could be the most honest and happy moment you ever shared with someone who experienced it with you. Perspective and existential exploration will always be fundamental to the human experience
100%
I think it even goes beyond watching real people dieing. Even in our media "its no fun until someone dies."
We have this tribal need to watch and see death from a distance.
It's less the the thing that happens to us, but the reaction to it. That's the point... We take more comfort in something from a distance, but when it hits home we all have the fight or flight reaction to dealing with it. Instincts teach us one or the other, but we know... We all know we can stop and face that primal force. Media has dulled alot of this response... I believe that's the point of this.
Tool and rage against the machine knew where we were and where heading. Most if not all their older songs fit today as well as back then.
The two beings emerging from the eyes are the masc/fem aspects of each of our souls. The flea represents the parasitic way our sins feed off of our negative emotions, and grow into the monsters we see at the end. The ending represents killing our egos, as “pride goes before the fall,” which allows us to be reborn (the fetus in the figure’s head) - we just have to have a spiritual experience and meet the God of our Understanding or Higher Power or Allah. Also- DMT /mushrooms/ psychedelics heavily inspired this
The universe started in violence, the big bang. So, it continues and will till it's end, which will most likely be violent.
One of my favorite Tool songs
Maynard speaks the truth here. The best Tool song.
It’s sure up there
The intros are long because it's art.
Fantastic reaction to an unbelievably accurate song about humanity. Tool = wizards of lyrics and sonics!
Normally I'm not a reaction channel fan but the way you do it by actually reading the lyrics and giving your own take is cool to me
it shouldnt surprise me you caught the meaning so fast, i remember how impressed i was when you picked apart system of a downs entire discog like it was nothing
When he says the phrase “oh guys” it always lets me know this video is worth it
If we admit what we are, we can address it. Until then it lives in the Shadow.
When it shocked you…that’s why the intros are long. Tool is a journey.
As for myself, I don't think this is a criticism of mankind, only a reminder that we are all "monsters" at the core and we are capable of doing monstrous things to survive.
"Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out your hippy haze and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again
The universe is hostile, so Impersonal. Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been"
All of us have to remember at all times and do not lose sight of the fact that when it comes to survival, feelings cease to exist, people will devour you alive without a moment's hesitation. There is no love in us when we sacrifice others to save our own lives. So heartless is our "beautiful" life in the truth, has always been like this and this is how it will remain.
Because they're never in a hurry, not all who wander are lost, the journey is the fun part! See how long it takes them to release a record for proof.
This into isn’t a part of the song on the album. It is in the music video only. So it’s atmosphere for the music video only
The part that shocked you is how the song actually starts. I mean it still is an intro… but
Silence, time, droning, arrhythmic sounds, all of these are as much a part of music as rhythm and melody. Tool made some unique musical experiences. Some say they’re supposed to resemble the effects of certain drugs, I’m not sure, but I truly respect any band willing to make something unique. I want to hear something I haven’t heard before, and Tool is one band that delivers that experience.
"The Universe is hostile", loved watching you see and hear this.
You might say that Black Holes Devour to Survive, Even.
really enjoyed your thoughtful reaction
If you are looking for a paradox... you found it! Btw.... we as species may be the most interesting organism... I wouldnt imagine there would be anything like "us" with in light years...
Great video, dude☝️
Tool is an equally brilliant and hilarious group of artists. Nothing else like it.
I highly suggest checking out their friend, Alex Grey’s artwork, which appears when the tadpole goes into the eyes of the character in the video.
If you’re looking for another one, Tool’s song Eulogy is a good one to cover, I would think.
Your thumbnail is all to relatable and hilarious.
Watchung you roll up to Tool is something I didnt know I needed to see until I saw it lmao 😂
This is one of my favorite tool songs!
Every song ever sung. The sound of
Yes ,and I am an infj! I see this, I navigate through this.
I’m sure that you realized this fact subconsciously , but maybe not noticed realistically… every Tool song is its own journey. Some do however tell stories between songs. That’s why they didn’t release their content on streaming platforms before… the albums tell stories.
Right in two should be next.
one of my favorite tool songs, one of the many songs i played on guitar hero until i loved it so much i had to get 100%
If you haven't already, please 🙏 react(or even just listen to for yourself) to Right in Two, Wings for Marie part 1 and 2, and Opiate. They're so good. ❤
The lyrics get me right here ❤
The song on the album doesn’t have that intro or outro. It starts when the music starts and ends when the music ends. Those are just for the video.
could that be the same with Parabol and Parabola? I don't recall the intro music being in the CD
@@alexbeardsley751 yep parabol is the intro to parabola. Vicarious is the first song on 10,000 days so there is no intro ha
@@MBP208 I had a feeling. I still have both those cds and they still have zero scratches!!!
Its the Truth
7:12 We are "the monkeykilling monkey".
The video intro isn't on the album. Tool has a tradition, though, of beginning albums with weird soundscapes, and sometimes between tracks. I think they serve the same purpose as Ozu's "pillow shots" did in his films; as a breather between tracks/scenes.
Coming to this conclusion before everyone had a camera in their pocket was a mindfuck… hits even harder today .
Overall, we are no better and no less than the universe that created us. We are.
Hey brother, I totally appreciate your reaction videos!
Hey hey. Always love your reacs. cheers!
Long intros go back to the early days of metal music.
They write in a classical sense
Very Bold
The thing is people claim that they are good, when they like watching death , and tragedy, yet we tend to call those things "bad" its merely a degree in polarity. Nothings bad nor good. Everything just is, and its always been. If we acknowledge it, we can manage the degree of those things in life, we choose for ourselves bad good or neutral.
But we explode with the stars so we are eternal.
Amazing song and lyrically one of Maynards best!!
Tool is obsessed with eyes they are all over there cds and albums.
Phenomenal shrooms video. Doesn’t the Grudge video connect with this
“This song should be called human suck something” 7:00
That intro part isnt part of the album track. Probably just for the video.
ONLY HUMANS HUNT FOR SPORT
Didn't notice it the lie, lie , la lie, la lie, very on purpose
I can't remember, has he listened to Right in Two? Cause he kinda got the gist of the album and needs to experience the rest.
the guitarist Adam Jones was a special effects artist on some major films released in America and around the globe.
he is very talented in this regard . he created most of their videos showcasing his talent as a special effects and graphics creator
This song kind of like the song "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley
So much Tool.
It's always awesome to see someone listen to a Tool song get it and then reality sink in . Legit awakening!!!
Spiral out big pimpn
Perfect example why I don't like reactions of music videos of great songs. Even when just reading the lyrics people get so thrown off that they barely listen to actual music being played.
Subbed for more Tool please
🤘🏻🌀
This song, when getting past the lyrics, the musicianship is nnnnasty
Why can’t you just admit it?
Much better you than I.
It’s why I don’t watch the news
Humens suk
But they also atak
NEVER do a video for a Tool first listen. The videos almost never have anything to do with the sang, and they're far too distracting.
we aren't the product of the universe . we are the product of intelligent design by a designer . the universe was created by the very same designer
new peer reviewed science has confirmed this , we are all connected and we are all eternal beings, energy never dies .
the Universe being a violent setting is also what creates new planets , new solar systems . it is inconceivable how much energy creates this thing we call violence in our universe . but we also know there it takes so much more energy to keep all of it in existence
keeping everything just as it is in the universe . the thing is to compare the violence of the universe to mankind's evil tendencies is not rational.
we as human beings have choices we make every second of everyday . the universe does not have any choice
I believe most of the violence of mankind is due to people believing that we are not accountable to anyone or anything , but just the opposite is true
there is a creator, we are eternal beings that poses a question and the only question should be will we spend eternity in the presence of the creator or without him. even on our worst day here on earth we can not even conceive of what it would be like to be separated from the one true creator of everything .
with the new science confirming our universe is not infinite but finite , with Chaos theory being accepted as fact and the Darwinian theory of bio genesis or evolution being debunked the one thing science has proven is we are not here by chance of some primordial soup creating human life but rather by intelligent design . thus there is a designer , and that is who we will in the end be accountable to for all of our actions, thoughts, words, etc.
