The long intros and instrumental breaks are there because the music is just as important as the lyrics. Not one thing is in the spotlight, the whole band is there. It’s to compliment the song. Could you imagine a 3 minute Pneuma radio edit single 😅 lmao. That would actually be kinda hilarious

This is still probably my favorite Tool song.
Maynard (frontman for Tool) has several bands he's been a part of. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are two others off the top of my head.
But if you want a good song that Maynard has done that is almost a reflection of this song with a message about how humanity can be better, you should check out his song from the band Puscifer called "The Humbling River"

Re intros: this longer intro is not included in the album version, however tool regularly include those kinds of intros and interludes as sonic palate cleansers. Like taking a drink of a seltzer before biting into a nice juicy bison burger :D

The real point is we aren’t inherently good or evil, it’s a spectrum judged by the observer, the worst moment you critique yourself for could be the most honest and happy moment you ever shared with someone who experienced it with you. Perspective and existential exploration will always be fundamental to the human experience

I think it even goes beyond watching real people dieing. Even in our media "its no fun until someone dies."
We have this tribal need to watch and see death from a distance.

  • @anabainein
    @anabainein Місяць тому

It's less the the thing that happens to us, but the reaction to it. That's the point... We take more comfort in something from a distance, but when it hits home we all have the fight or flight reaction to dealing with it. Instincts teach us one or the other, but we know... We all know we can stop and face that primal force. Media has dulled alot of this response... I believe that's the point of this.

The two beings emerging from the eyes are the masc/fem aspects of each of our souls. The flea represents the parasitic way our sins feed off of our negative emotions, and grow into the monsters we see at the end. The ending represents killing our egos, as “pride goes before the fall,” which allows us to be reborn (the fetus in the figure’s head) - we just have to have a spiritual experience and meet the God of our Understanding or Higher Power or Allah. Also- DMT /mushrooms/ psychedelics heavily inspired this

As for myself, I don't think this is a criticism of mankind, only a reminder that we are all "monsters" at the core and we are capable of doing monstrous things to survive.
"Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out your hippy haze and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again
The universe is hostile, so Impersonal. Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been"
All of us have to remember at all times and do not lose sight of the fact that when it comes to survival, feelings cease to exist, people will devour you alive without a moment's hesitation. There is no love in us when we sacrifice others to save our own lives. So heartless is our "beautiful" life in the truth, has always been like this and this is how it will remain.

Silence, time, droning, arrhythmic sounds, all of these are as much a part of music as rhythm and melody. Tool made some unique musical experiences. The thing is people claim that they are good, when they like watching death , and tragedy, yet we tend to call those things "bad" its merely a degree in polarity. Nothings bad nor good. Everything just is, and its always been. If we acknowledge it, we can manage the degree of those things in life, we choose for ourselves bad good or neutral.

we aren't the product of the universe . we are the product of intelligent design by a designer . the universe was created by the very same designer
new peer reviewed science has confirmed this , we are all connected and we are all eternal beings, energy never dies .
the Universe being a violent setting is also what creates new planets , new solar systems . it is inconceivable how much energy creates this thing we call violence in our universe . but we also know there it takes so much more energy to keep all of it in existence
keeping everything just as it is in the universe . the thing is to compare the violence of the universe to mankind's evil tendencies is not rational.
we as human beings have choices we make every second of everyday . the universe does not have any choice
I believe most of the violence of mankind is due to people believing that we are not accountable to anyone or anything , but just the opposite is true
there is a creator, we are eternal beings that poses a question and the only question should be will we spend eternity in the presence of the creator or without him. even on our worst day here on earth we can not even conceive of what it would be like to be separated from the one true creator of everything .
with the new science confirming our universe is not infinite but finite , with Chaos theory being accepted as fact and the Darwinian theory of bio genesis or evolution being debunked the one thing science has proven is we are not here by chance of some primordial soup creating human life but rather by intelligent design . thus there is a designer , and that is who we will in the end be accountable to for all of our actions, thoughts, words, etc.
