you really walked into that song
Ayoooooooo
Watching people react to this song always feels so meta. Vicarious indeed.
I took my mom to the Tool show in Dallas 1/31. Leaving she said "I expected to tolerate this with you Scott, but I loved it!!!" Winning!
You GoGurl😊
7:15 that's Justin, it's so cool
Consider myself an immature person (once you are in your 50s immature is actually more "playful", but anyway...). It takes some of us into our late 20s and early 30s before we can truly appreciate the complexity and beauty of Tool. The hard part is that once you you "go Tool" there is nowhere else interesting to go.
that's the limit you made up for yourself. And I love Tool btw.
I am 50 and I agree that once one experiences TOOL, there really is no where else interesting to go. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of other great music out there - PT, DT, Opeth, Soen, APC, Puscifer, Blackfield, and more - but none really can compare to the music that TOOL creates. IMO, TOOL sounds like no-one else. Their music is an experience and not just something to listen to. And I have been listening to them since 1995.
I’m 21 been listening since I was 17 and they are my favorite band the greatest band in the world they are more than a band lol
@@synystera Wish it was a limit I made up for myself as I love music! Still find new music to like, old music I discover and I also listen to a LOT of progressive house. But, nothing really compares to Tool - for me at least.
Tool is so good, they have ruined 95% of ALL other music for me. They just put it on in a way no one else does, and it shows. Greatest band ever.
That was actually Justin on the bass @ 7:15
Man. I can't wait for you to hear "Eulogy" that song is what made me fall in love with Tool.
The "death rattle" line has always disturbed me. The old timers who had to watch loved ones die at home without a ventilator back in the day would tell me how they could tell when someone was drawing their last breath. They say, you can hear the "death rattle" in their breathing. I hope to never have to hear it.
It’s not a great sound tbh. Both my grandmother and grandfather died of old age, at their home, 4 years apart…and we were there with them till the end. I was in the room both times when they took their last breath. The rattle is definitely not the best sound ever, especially when it’s a loved one…
It isn’t a back in the day kinda thing, still happens today even with ventilators. It’s brutal to hear.
I have heard it.
I believe it was made worse due to the medications administered to keep the patient comfortable. That was a long shift.
they're just snoring because they're sleepy :)
I’ve heard the rattle on hospice patients. It’s not really any different today. Most people don’t die on vents
Your comment on why wasn’t I listening to this in 2006? Totally relatable for me. I think after becoming a father and gaining life experience, meaning of life being more important, having listened to more music…all this has made my re-discovery of Tool and appreciation for them now of higher caliber. I listened to them here and there, but now they are my favorite group.
"sounds like a follow up..."
i'm convinced that ever TooL album is one album spread over 30 years.. lit every song ties to another
i always thought a lot of 10k songs felt like Lat b sides like left over riffs and what not
Dude! I've been recommending this one forever for a reason!
I would recommend listening to their older stuff and then moving forward. Tool has evolved so much as a band both musically and spiritually.
That part at the 7:24 mark of the video where you said, "Ooo, Adam!" is actually not Adam. It's Justin on his Wal bass shredding it up!
Death Rattle...When someone is passing, they sometimes get a gurgle in their throat and it's referred to as the death rattle
After lateralus I remember waiting 4-5 years for this album to come out and listening to the radio and suddenly hearing this single before the actual album launch. Had to pull the car over and crank it up, wasn’t sure who it was because I missed the intro but as soon as I heard more I knew instantly it was Tool…no one could replicate the drumming, it had to be Danny.
The synergy between tool's instrumentalists can't be replicated lolz
I can confidently say that Tool is one of, if not the most technically talented rock bands in history. Vocals, lyrics, bass, drums and guitar. A complete package of masterpiece.
For an old house-bound guitar player, you nailed that statement about Adam! He is hard to copy, his percussive technique is really well played, and his use of effects. The best players play to the song, not their ego! Peace.
a psychological sequel to this song would be "Disillusioned" by A Perfect Circle off their album Eat The Elephant. Great introspective damnation of the distracted masses and a reminder of our connection to the infinite. I would read the lyrics to the song but watch the official video which tells a visual story with the song that helps support their message so much. Made me cry in the past watching it. ua-cam.com/video/BIsH686xWl0/v-deo.html Please check that song/video out and share your reaction with us. Thank you.
I looked real quick and your playlist folder for Tool only has 25 videos on it that means you're only halfway through the tool discography because there's about 50 plus songs from Tool alone and then you still have maynards to other bands which are their own journey. While some, like Judith, tie into you know the Maynard story ...Orestes is one of them from a perfect circle.
Love Orestes and 3 libras, beautiful melodies
In my opinion, the best progressive metal track ever made. One of the best songs ever. Just fantastic.
This is my #2 favorite Tool song, almost #1.
That stanza about angles in the hearts of men just... I felt that in my soul. It really is how I've come to view the world.
It just rang so true that it blindsided me. I've oft thought of getting those lyrics as a tattoo.
This might not be popular among other Tool fans but I get on my knees and thank God for several things every day. They are : the health of my family, the fact that I have a good job to provide for my family, my wife still having a beautiful body at 49 years old and that out of the almost 8 billion people on earth, He brought these four men together to form this incredible band.
At 6 minutes when you mentioned that the song is beautiful but it talks of such deep, dark things. That song Orestes that I brought up in my other comment is like that. For years I never actually paid attention to the lyrics and I always thought it was just funny that.. only Maynard could sing the words ...keeping me from killing you and make it so beautiful.
And I only just recently delved into the lyrics and realized it's about Maynard having to make the decision to pull the plug on his mom :(
Crystal scolza, the moment you realize that, the song takes on a new meaning. I’ve never been able to listen to that song the same ever since.
Yessir, let's go!!!...thanks for the video
I still remember being 16 in 1999 visiting my older brother in California for the summer and hearing Eulogy on the on our way to work and just being like who was that? What was that and him being like Tool you never heard Tool? I had maybe heard Sober before that but they hadn't really registered. But after work I went to this record store called Dimple records in Citrus Heights and bought everything they had released from opiate through salival and immediately being mad did I I didn't know something like this existed and even today at 40 I'm just as amazed and blown away when I hear songs that I've heard a thousand times as i was the first time
That hammer dulcimer.! 😆 🤣
@sebs, thanks for yet another great reaction. I've really enjoyed following you on your TOOL discovery. Not that it would be possible to do reaction videos of them, but in your off-time, might I suggest you try listening to each of the albums in their entirety and in order with no skipping around. Like each song is its own vibe, so are the albums; they are a journey unto themselves, and you'll get a much better sense of all the songs on one album when you hear how they were arranged in order and how they contribute to the overall work. Spiral out, bro! 🤘🏼🌀
“Fucking show offs” is a response I’ve had to many a TOOL song as I was trying to learn the guitar or vocal parts. Great react as always bro.
A couple things about Adams playing.....
First,he's left handed,but plays righty.
His palm mute isn't a hard mute, gently rest the edge of your hand closer to the bridge so the note will still ring, but a shorter ring? If that makes sense.
The marshall he uses is a super bass that's been modded to super lead specs, and he uses a diezel blueface(these are his two main amps)he also has a diezel Silverface or Mesa boogie dual rectifier for his third.
One of my all time favorite "saying" would be from these lyrics.
"Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out your hippy haze and give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
The universe is hostile. so Impersonal. devour to survive.
So it is. So it's always been."
Always been a big favorite of mine, while it throws its message right in my face. It is Tool's most obvious tune. Totally straight forward, and for good reason. It just totally kills.
Hope to see you in Philly!!
Maynard is the best Human instrument ever, they way he can make you feel in the way he sings 🤯
That last "Vicariously" always gives me chills in the legs
Hahaha! Yes.
Every time I hear that part, I look down to check my legs for goosebumps. And without fail, they always appear 😂
Always gives me a chills! Always! Best song ever written by a human beings! Second and third are also Tool songs... 💪
Don't feel bad, I didn't discover Tool until the winter before Fear Inoculum came out. I was actually walking to work when I heard a really cool song on Spotify (probably Schism), then another really cool song (probably 46&2), and when I realized it was Tool both times I fell down the rabbit hole.
It’s Maynard’s knowledge of this reality that allows him to go inside and find his own personal peace. That’s where it lives.
As a long time Tool fan....Incubus fuckin ROCKS! No shame in it!! Brandon Boyd is a friggin vocal legend....and the band behind him are all amazing at what they do. Incubus is a total vibe.
Same, I love Incubus. Morning View is one of my favorite records ever
I agree!
TOOL IS FOREVER 🤘🔥😎🔥🤘
3:55 - Boredom's not a burden / Anyone should bear / Constant over stimulation numbs me
From a song released in 1996...
One of the best!!! I'm glad to got to this one - very relevant to modern society
Enjoying your reactions!
I would like to see you reat to "Third Eye"
When I was in highschool and totally obsessed with tool I tried building my guitar to get match Adam's tone. Adam, Daron Malakian, Tom Morello, Tony Iommi are my biggest influences for guitar. A lot of my guitar playing is influenced by bassists though, and a lot of my bass playing is influenced by guitarists.. You need to start your System of a Down journey next.
Also I read Gulag Archipelago for a class in college. Great and terrifying book.
“Show offs “ lol
So glad you did this song finally. My personal next request is Stinkfist.
Sometimes living vicariously through the suffering of others, we realize we don't have it so bad. "I lost my job today? At least I didn't lose my whole family that fire last night...". It's not all about being evil.
One of my top 5 favorite TOOL songs! Glad you finally got around to it and enjoyed it so much!
people Sebs is a phenomenal guitar player, and knows his sh*t, don't let hm fool you with his humbleness. Great dude.
I know a guy who knows Adam & they were once talking about the percussive nature of his playing & Adam told him the bass was his first love. I had never heard that said anywhere, nowhere can I even find online that Adam has said this publicly, but once he said that it made all the sense why TOOL is so percussion-centric.
Just got back from their show in Dallas, they freaking rocked it 🤘🌀
Your open mind and receptiveness to new and good music is encouraging to me my man.
Woo! Thanks for the listen 🤙🏻❤️ always a good time, all love Sebs
Congrats on your first Tool show homie.
If you haven't heard the song Disillusioned by A Perfect Circle, you really should. The TLDR - It's about people's obsession with their phones. It'll probably make you cry though.
next to invincible this has always been my favorite track from them, love your reations Sebs always here to see them when i can.
I’m sitting here watching this reaction on my tv when you said “Incubus and crap”, i don’t know if your insinuating Incubus is crap, but just know I got my phone out to comment on this to say “Incubus is great🤣”. Have a good one Mr Sebs!
That look at the end when you heard Danny gettin’ it lol. This is one I’ve been requesting for awhile as I had a good feeling you’d enjoy it. Glad you got to it.
"Show-offs." I remember thinking the same thing the very first time I heard Vicarious debut on satellite radio back back in May of 2006.
I remember when this single dropped on the radio! Great song.
I'll never forget driving up I-5 from Southern California to Washington State and hitting Sacramento. Tuning in a local radio station and Vicarious came on 🤯
Had been an enamored fan for years, but at THIS first listen, it completely blew me away!
The next time it came on a station, I literally pulled over to the side of the road for complete attention, lol!
Tools best song as far as I'm concerned
One of my favourite songs to play on guitar, so satisfying.
The last 10 seconds with the hammer ons 🤤😎
We “tool fans” all feel like we birthed you because we’ve loved tool long enough to be your mother.
14:11, The Stanford experiment kind of proves the evil nature that lives within all of us.
hey man, new subscriber and im hooked on your MJK work. I haven't made it through your whole video log, however in this video you mention social dilemma - A perfect circle disillusioned is basically social dilemma summed up in a song. I hope you make it to that song.
"Death Rattle" = Terminal Respiratory Secretions
This was my number 1 song throughout high school and my hype song before any of my sports games, haha.
This song gives me energy driving on the way to work 🔥🔥
Going to the Dallas show Tonight!!!!! LFG!!!!
Loved your words on fear and trust
Solo at 7:15 is bass, brother.
Justin Chancellor is seriously a very underrated artist. Because so much of what he does doesn’t sound like bass
Best drum outro of any song ever
There's only so far gear will get you to the tone. But, as I've gotten older the old saying always rings true. Tone is all in the hands.
Oof, well said!
Great reaction as always!👍
4:10 - Why do we keep looking for things to stimulate us?
- Stinkfist: "Constant over stimulation numbs me"
....
It is all in there.. Why would you try less money-grab and more think?
And right after this song Jambi comes on and it's like blast off
I think you'll like Soen. Their lyric video for Antagonist is awesome.
1:06 - Well .. I english is not my native language... But "sentimental" still would not be within my first five words chosen to describe the word "vicarious" :D
(oh yeah, the "merch" .. MURICA!!)
Tool for me this Friday!! H-Town baby!!!
Loved this reaction video. First time here
Those Guys R Just Amazing❤🎉❤
EXACTLY.....PERIOD
12:30 looks like dogma blinding you from what he is saying????
love this song
Probably my favourite tool song
Really like your vibe bro...🤙
"welcome back tool army"
Yes, welcome to you as well.
Tool happens when Tool needs to happen in one's life. If you wonder why you didn't listen to it before now, it's because you weren't ready for the message. I had that same experience.
Dope deaction.. I've been waiting for someone to react to this
This one is incredible for sure! Let me just echo Alan and encourage you to check out Maynard’s other bands which are both equally as great. I feel like Galileo by Puscifer is an appropriate follow up to this one, it’s all about challenging the status quo, you will not be disappointed. Keep ‘em comin’!
Galileo is awesome.
Train to Iowa - trippy
The Remedy - is always fun
Grey Area - I really like
Humbling River will make him cry. Bet.
@@Viccerz ha. He doesn't NEED to cry. But it's also a great song. Doesn't make me cry but just be hopeful.
His other bands are not equally as great. A perfect circle is not as good as this. Pusifer is not as good as a perfect circle
@@screwdriverman5-kf2ui "Greatness" is in the eye of the beholder. I have friends that prefer APC over Tool. Puscifer is definitely on another level but I love those songs and kinda prefer Puscifer shows over APC shows. In some ways I kinda like Puscifer shows more than Tool shows simply because it's so unique and playful. The point is...Sebs is a big boy and may dislike the other two completely and that is also okay. or may may love them more or equally.
You can find Adam's isolated guitar track on UA-cam. The chord progression transitions and nuances are extremely interesting
It's about watching things like films ❤
Lovelovelove
Just truth.
The next reaction. Intermission & Jimmy. In that order.
I hope at some point you get into Maynard's 2 other bands - A Perfect Circle and Pucifer.
Maynard seems to have an unending amount of creativity!
this is one of tools best songs love the lyrics
Want a banger? Ticks and Leeches
Another great track on this album is Right in two... differently want to check it out.
Love Tool ❤❤❤❤❤🎉
My favorite album by them outside of Undertow cause Undertow was with Paul
🤘
❤️❤️❤️
Look at the Video "Sound like Tool Without Busting the Bank" some cool knowledge... They also have a Video "Sound like Tool with busting the Bank" You can also find some really helpful Videos about Adam's techniques like the Pull through Technique... 😉
I have a Line 6 Pod X3 Live and it work's really good for Tool Sounds...
This is my goto suggestion for reactors 👍
Listen to a perfect circle
