I didn't realize until now that we need a channel where you just read lyrics to songs
Maybe my faorite TOOL song, it also maybe Maynard's most tragic song, lyrically. I love the double entendre of "take my hand," meaning something sexual on the surface, but also a metaphor as a cry for help. The lines "elbow deep," and "shoulder deep," meaning his mental addiction to feel something - ANYTHING - is impossibly unquenchable. This song is a dessertation - a psychological profile - on society's penchant to mistake mental health for perversion or deviant behavior. Brilliant.
Dive deep into the rabbit hole my man. Tool will take on a journey.
Almost thirty years old and this song is more and more relevant....
As funny as the obvious fisting lines are they actually reinforce the point of the song. More stimulation, more extremes just to feel or notice something.
10:38 GOLD!!
Adam Jones does the videos. He also worked on many 90's blockbusters.
The music videos often distract new listeners. In the advent of technology at that time, Maynard was writing this to warn us of the desensitization of constant connection.
Yes, Adam worked making the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. This song like sex science fiction, but great musicianship and singing.
This is probably one of my favorite reactions from you now. That moment of realization was perfect. And yes, most TOOL videos have nothing to do with the song itself.
Dude this made me laugh out loud. It's the best when you get flustered. Respect. Thanks for being real as fuck. Also, "turn around and take my hand" is literally, Turn around... And take my hand.
By far the funniest reaction I’ve watched associated with Tool 😂
Metaphors are fun!
The psychology of using anal fisting to talk about desensitisation to everything was pretty brilliant when it came out. I mean, we didn't even have Human Centipede or two girls one cup yet.
My favorite comment 💜
@@violetfemme411 you're welcome
We did have Goatsee, which incidentally...
I have never laughed so much during a reaction. This is amazing on so many levels. The timing and delivery are top notch my friend. 🤌🏻
The three musicians write all the music. Sometimes this is a very long process. Once the music is what they want, they then give to Maynard to write the lyrics. Three of the best musicians with one of the best, of not the best lyricists= one of the top bands of all time
The song can also be viewed as a metaphor for personal growth and self-discovery. The "stinkfist" can represent the willingness to confront and embrace the darker aspects of oneself, metaphorically "fisting" or delving deep into one's own psyche to explore and understand the hidden aspects of one's personality. It can be seen as a call to embrace discomfort and face the less desirable aspects of life or one's own psyche in order to grow and evolve.
6 minutes in and im waiting for him to remember the name of the song lol
I'm going to see them live in November in Tennessee
The world is rife with autosuggestion. Choosing only your own suggestions is the beginning of wisdom. Tool is more than artistic, it’s brilliance, being tongue in cheek clever. ♠️🕊️🙏
This is in Tools early days. Maynard once said that one of his writing strategies was to write what he dislikes about “you” then invert himself into the villain role, so “you” becomes “me” and vice versa.
When this video was played on mtv it was titled "song no. 1"
It has always wondered if maybe this is the metaphor of a pacifier. About taking full control of someone...
As a former addict I always felt this song was about addiction and how it can beep you in the bum
You can't take these lyrics literally.Your head will explode.😮
Maybe not just your head😮😂
Adam Jones, guitarist of Tool and director of these videos was working on such small movies like "Terminator 2" and "Jurassic Park" before TOOL...
Your observations really illuminate this song for me!
The Song that made a Tool Fan💞🤘
Uh Oh. He discovered Tool.
He has listen to like 80% of their discography.
yeah these are reuploads. he discovered tool a while ago. :P
"....my arms are massive guys... shoulder deep?" 🤔😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 awesome reaction man! All joking aside I think it's great the speed which u catch on to the meaning in Tool songs acts pretty spot on
What did you expect from a song called Stinkfist?? You should hear Prison Sex🤔
Oh nooooo he found my favorite band Tool.
Oh no! He's getting deeper! I know you reacted to this one before but I'll gladly watch a second go at it.
Adam, the guitar player for Tool is a hobbyist horror effects artist and film maker. He makes all of Tool's videos.
This album introduced me to Bill Hicks
I think it introduced a whole generation to Bill Hicks, me included
Same. And my life was improved.
bill hicks is my adopted daddy
knuckle deep? Guys where we going with this....song title is Stinkfist lol..great vid!
this is a love song
Elbow-cut to-shoulder 😂😂😂
This is about how people have become so desensitized. Just like Vicarious is basically the same thing.
Tool is just different a good different!
Great reaction, you were cracking me up lol
10:37 this is why it's called progressive rock
What is this tentacle, guys? Ha!
Lol the moment he realizes what the song is actually about
First time I heard Stinkfist it was 4 years before I knew what the lyrics were
Maynard singing about becoming a Muppet
🤘🏻🌀
I would recommend audio not to distract Tool best band of all time 👍
I know he has covered 46 & 2 but the lyric version that points to Jung's philosophy would be dope to watch him analyze
"Shoulder deep in the borderline" (eyebrows SHOOT upward)
I remember my first prostate exam.
Maynard is essentially using “fisting” as a metaphor for addiction/stimulation & the eventual downward slope you will end up in (whether it’s drugs, booze, sex).
This reminds me of that scene from The Simpsons where Bart and Lisa are in a theater and Lisa is hiding her eyes because it's a scary movie.
"Lisa... If you don't watch the violence you won't become desensitized to it."
Graduated to horses
You might give Fugazi a try, they have a more punk, progressive style, and they rock.
I thought you did this one already.
I think I had read that this song is about addiction. If you read the lyrics from that perspective, it’s no longer perverse and it makes more sense.
It's about overstimulation I'm general. Could be drugs. Could be sex. Pick your poison
@@Double44inthemorninghappy to find a Tool fan who realizes there is no hyper specific meaning to the songs and it’s meant to be broad. That’s the thing I hate about mega tool fans, they always have their theories on the music and have kind of an elitist mindset about it. Like they uncovered the secret and their version of it is the correct one
lolo
This song should not be taken literally. It's Metaphysical.
Avenged Sevenfold's new song "Cosmic".
You gotta do it. I've been listening to this like every six hours. The album is called "Life Is But A Dream", and it's very disjointed, too many influences to count. "Cosmic" is a masterpiece though. Orchestra in the modern era.
Dawg is talking about Avenged Sevenfold on a Tool video 💀
Relax, It's a metaphor.
Ты парень прав в одном, если придератся к словам мы русские уже бы запустили ракету и не одну что слышим от ваших политиков. You're right about one thing, if you find fault with the words, we Russians would have already launched a rocket and not one that we hear from your politicians.
I’m crying laughing at this reaction. I loved this album in high school 😂. But let’s ban queer books in Florida
Hopefully LA too
Please start from the beginning.
Every Tool song is worthless if you haven't heard Sweat. What good is a tool that just lays there? Each Tool song is a tool for a different area of life. With their discography, we have all the tools we need to become successful. But without the 1st Tool, the 1st song on the 1st Tool album, it's all futile & totally worthless. This isn't what the song is about, necessarily. It's just how I feel about the song. It's 3:30, roughly,.. a bit short, it would seem. But, there's little hints of everything they've grown into since then, all packed into 1 short, but really sweet song. If you're not gonna Sweat, just leave Tool alone, child!!!
I can't hear it. What is he saying? I speak Portuguese . I think I can hear him saying "shupa" which does mean sick in Portuguese. What's the other word?
It's not named stinkfist for no reason ✊️💩
Tool videos are completely different from tool songs. Handle with care.
i thought this channel was family friendly
Mr Boyd shame on you. You are reaction channel yes, the expectation is that this is the first time you have seen X by the band X. Now potentially you have experienced the song before but you are good about telling us that. Don’t fall into the trap of FIRST TIME every single video
I have the same problem with most of these react channels.. ESPECIALLY when they claim to have a vast knowledge of music but then watch something super iconic for the "first time"

Progress. Ride the spiral. Spiral out. Go farther. Push your boundaries. Think for yourself. Question authority!!!
