Tool are a band with a lot to say, but do most of it with their music, Maynard either writes cryptic lyrics or as here very open lyrics with a simple but powerfull meaning and about getting older, losing some of that youthful energy but being better for it, knowing you are always going to have to compete with younger men whilst having done more than most of that younger generation will even see, nevermind do. I love this song so much, it was the perfect closer when I saw them. Big love brother

When this album came out, I was going through a rough time in life, & I was seeing a mental health therapist once a week. About 3 weeks in, he handed me a a bunch of questions about my emotional wellbeing, 3 pages worth. Instead of answering any of the questions, I wrote down the lyrics to this song & gave it to him. He immediately figured out that I was having the so called "mid-life crisis" & gave me the TOOLs to figure it out.

I grew up a tool fan. My tastes have changed over the years, and my perspective has as well. While I find the song technically stimulating and cognitively intriguing I don't feel moved emotionally and spiritually by it like I do by Heilung. I find Tool stimulating but not inspiring. Very much an appreciation, especially considering my nostalgia, but its season has passed in my life.

That riff that starts at 13:06 in the video where you said "I love that riff", well, that's arguably my favorite riff in all of Tool's discography. So clean, crisp and powerful. Just perfect for leading into the outro. Great stuff!

Saw them premier this song and descending at Rockville in Jacksonville FL. Oddly enough prior to the album release I would listen to the Video recordings of invincible and never really got into Descending. Once the album dropped and I heard descending, it quickly became my new favorite Tool song. Perfection.

As good as this is I feel there are at least 3 better songs on this album, so there's ya' something for which to look forward. Pneuma (both Studio and Danny Carey's drum cam), Descending and 7empest are better in my eyes...Oh, let us not forget Culling Voices, another real good song! Really enjoying your content man, keep it up and I'll see on the next one!

Hey..here u r again...cool. I told you i'd be here for the next 1. Didnt realize this was months ago!? Ppl often comment on their own musings about being caught up, a movie etc. But to us......(the TOOL boxes, lol just kidding. we're NOT called that!) we already know. Later on down the road yul muse that "When I listen to TOOL I just have to close my eyes n let the experience take me on a visual journey. No other band really does that to me?!" Mark my words. Having said that...once u get further along n discover the songs "The Holy Trinity" >3 songs. Parabola/Parabol>2 songs and the like. Yul get to probably my favorite TOOL song?! I know, I know army relax! I said "probably!?" That's the hardest question to answer IN LIFE being a TOOL fan! O brother! ANYWAY, my song is Culling Voices. Yep, I said it. To this day it was the greatest sex my brain ever had!! 1st had sumthg "edible" put my ear protection on. "Closed my eyes" then just went "there!" Hearing the absolute GENIUS mixing. Tickling both left n right sides of my brain had me floating. When those OH so satisfying drops came? (bcuz they're multiple) I sat up n literally "cried out LOUD" then I literally cried euphorically. True story....lol. And everytime I see those words "Culling Voices" that someones reacting to it!? It takes me right back there! To be relived again n again. Ok wait.....where AM I?
