(BETTER QUALITY!) Winger performing "Seventeen" - New Year's Eve '88-89

  • This is a better-quality version of one of my previously-posted Winger vids. As the original copy on VHS tape was recorded in the worst possible quality, I did my best to preserve the quality of the original video. The audio was enhanced by Roeland Werring (guitar player of Werring). Thanks, Roeland!

This performance of "Seventeen" was for MTV's New Year's Bash, celebrating the coming of '89. I captured this video from my own VHS-recorded copy of the broadcast from back in the day. :)

Reb is beyond monstrous, perhaps unparalleled in his technical tools. Kip is a generational live singer. Hitting that note blind after coming in after the live pause is absolutely insane. When I was in high school I listened to thrash metal. My friends and I used to make fun of Winger for being “posers.” How short sighted we were. Such a tight band then and still today. Their live performances are incredible. They sound so close to how the recording sounds and that is so damn hard to do.

Got to see these guys live in the 80s. It was Slaughter, Winger and KISS. While doing his guitar solo, he broke strings on the Guitar. Never missing a note, he swapped out guitars on stage while still playing. Reb Beach is a Beast on Guitar! Concert was in Albany, Ga.

I remember when they hit the scene. So many people wrote them off as another glam rock, “cram another gorgeous , namesake, rock god down your throat” at a time when everyone was getting sick of it…. But for some reason no one could get their hits out of their head….. True songwriters, performers, and rock gods - just too late to the party. I sincerely hope they’ve at least gotten tons of money, and tons of fun and satisfaction from contributing to the world of rock music!

WINGER and the 80's saying "hold my beer" with a middle finger in the air! Winger was and still is one of the hardest hitting bands out there. Kip Winger is a major contributor of EXELLENT tunes to our genre and is still out there touring with these same PRO bandmates in 2022. I saw them first in 1990 and last in March, 2022. BOTH WERE LIKE THIS NIGHT IN 1989,,BEAST MODE PERFORMANCES!
