I was lucky enough to hang out with Reb back stage during the tour for "Heart of the Young." My friends dad was a local police officer who was working security for the show, and he was able to get us back stage between acts that day. All the guys in the band couldn't have been nicer! But Reb was in a class all of his own! I was well on my was to becoming an accomplished guitarist myself, and he asked me if I played. When I said yes, he said "well let's go jam for a few. I have to warm up anyway." Reb, Vito and Eddie were 100% my favorites! I spent countless hours in my room back then playing and constantly rewinding Winger cassettes over and over learning their songs as close yo note for note as I could! I never thought in a million years I'd get to meet him, let alone jam with him. I got to play his rarely seen white Ibanez WRB3 (Destroyer style), as well as the blue Ibanez Voyager. It was surreal! "Seventeen" though, was the ONE song of theirs that even though I had learned how to play it, I felt like there was something that just wasn't right in how the main riff sounded when I played it. He stopped me and showed me, lol. When he did, I was like "holy sh*t, it all makes sense now." I used to try to show friends how it was really played after that that were also playing it wrongIt's so cool and yet bizarre to see him do this demo so many years later. Looking back, I can't believe how gracious and kind Reb and the rest of the band were to a couple of annoying teenagers by allowing us to take up so much of their time that day! One of my greatest childhood /young adult memories. Thanks Reb!
That’s cool especially back then they could of been doing groupie s or anything else but he was probably a dwn to earth dude that said he let me give some attention to this fan and you actually got to practice with him that was amazing
You are one lucky man. Not many could share that kind of story. Rebs A beast. Miles away is probably my favorite song and video. I love the way the cameraman does shots of the group as the clips kind of get darker. Thought it was a well shot video. Wouldn’t it be cool if he saw your comment here after all those years and responded to you. I want to see them before they call it a day. One band I haven’t seen that I regret
Made a post on rebs website about 12 years ago, actually got a simple response, he is a real down to earth person who seems thankful for his musical gifts. Made my day
Say you don't know Reb at all without saying it. He could do this 10 times in a row, zero mistakes. It took zero effort on behalf of any camera person. Lol.
One of the greatest rock songs of the 80’s. I’d never heard a riff like this. Blew me away. The groove… the solo….. everything about the song is absolutely the best
Rebs guitar work is definitely what attracted me to this band, kick ass playing🦾👍🏻 i remember cranking this cassette tape with my boom box in the trunk area in my 73 Datsun 240Z back in the day😎
Reb is still the man! Bought my 1st Ibanez back in '88-'89 because of this man. Saw Winger open for Cinderella on the Long Cold Winter tour (my 1st concert at age 15) and they were awesome then. He's still got the licks after all these years.
This video is back. It was pulled so many years ago. Glad Reb has the chance to show players the nuisances of this guitar riff and his amazing guitar skills and creativity.
Reb was my first guitar hero! I was about 12 and seen the videos for Seventeen and Madalaine. I was blown away by his smooth technique and ultra fast tapping (back in the 80’s when flashy playing was revered). His playing is still impressive to this day!
This song is still a BEAST all these years later and I don't ever see it fading away...a forever hard rock classic !!! As a player myself , I AM glad I was playing the F sharp...BUT...I was also playing it twice...so I was still wrong as well...thanks very much for the TRUE lesson !!
You look great brother. Winger was such a talented group of musicians. 17 is one of my all time fav songs, one of the best riffs too. Keep rockin. 80s hair bands rule
1:56 dayum, that first note..... Kip really had some pipes. Yep, people are not slowing down the parts to actually HEAR what notes are being played when. Prob d/l some crap tab someone wrote out WRONGLY, too. Cool seeing him explain it slowly and clearly.
I was involved in a chat with Kip Winger and asked if he's ever considered doing a vocal course. His response was "I've been considering it for years". I took that as a no. Ha!
@@ronaldwhiggs yeah, well, I think he sounded badass back in the day and he's really worked hard to keep his voice sounding good as he's aged. It's' not the same but it's still damn good. Friend of mine landed a gig doing 2nd guitar in Winger for a little while when they were doing some tour a few years back. I was a bit disappointed he didn't let me talk to Reb or something since I basically showed him how to do rock guitar but oh well. Maybe he held some secret grudge or maybe he just never thought to do that. But good for him. He learned the songs and apparently they liked him well enough. I think it was because John... I forget, the other guitarist live he left to play with Whitesnake or something so that left them needing someone and my friend auditioned. None of this has to do with my original comment. hehehe just thinking out loud. I play a bit of guitar, you see and since 1974 I've been dabbling around off and on. I just stumble upon vids on YT and sometimes I go wow, that was great. haha Reb is really good and not THAT good which means he is a bit more unique since he's not really playing all those GIT graduate licks or stock 80s rock licks. Too many really good players in the world!!!! Dan Huff! Lukather! Matteo Mancuso. I'll stop.
"That's hard, I can't even play that." LOL! 😆 Reb, you created the guitar parts, so you get 100% authority on how that tune should be played. No reason to play it wrong and make it harder.
Musically the song is excellent, it’s a shame they didn’t write better lyrics for it as in Headed for a Heartbreak or Under One Condition. Reb is a fantastic guitar player and my personal favorite among the last wave of 80’s guitar heroes ( Nuno, Vito Bratta, Andy Timmons )
I saw the thumbnail to this video and thought to myself, "This guy is even going out of his way to try and look like Reb Beach". LMAO I thought it was another fan-created instructional video lol.
In childhood all I knew it's just "I like this song" and "I don't like this song". Now with the internet you can access it anything, all I knew my childhood songs was played by great musicians....
Reb, one of the best musicians in the guitar world!! Thanks for sharing this!!

Great story!
@@chikkipop Thanks! It was definitely the highlight of my youth.🙂

holy crap...........what a play thru......who ever filmed this caught it good........this is an epic run thru .....thanx Reb.

Such an under appreciated guitarist! Reb Beach is a BAD ASS MF’er!
I’ve always thought that.
He shreds!🤘🏻😎
Yep, he's still bad ass
Reb was a teen when he came up with that classic Riff!
Wow !! Thought this video got taken down! Reb is the man ! Killer guitarist
One of the greatest rock songs of the 80’s. I’d never heard a riff like this. Blew me away. The groove… the solo….. everything about the song is absolutely the best
it was the pinnacle, miss those days
Madelaine was the first cut I heard the week the album released (check the video out). I was hooked. Reb was just crushing it all over every song.
This riff and Warren DeMartini's "Lay It Down" are two of my favorite riffs of all time.
A natural thats all there is to it
I just love this riff.
This solo is one of the absolute best ever! The bend he does! Gets me every time!
Reb is a true virtuoso!!
I grew up in the 80's and EVH set the bar and everyone else chased that bar.
Reb is incredible and naturally gifted.
Totally wish more artists did this kind of video. It's so cool!
They probably hate seeing people play it wrong

He plays so effortlessly
Riff monster...such a cool sound

It was so nice to meet Reb @NStuffMusic during the awesome Andy Wood clinic
Absolutely kick ass! Always loved your tone, power,& shapes…what a masterful wizard on the 6 stringer!!👏👏👏👏👏
Saw them back when this album came out on the club tour, they were amazing live
Dude its Reb Beach! One of my favorite guitar players and styles of playing in the world ever!
Reb you ROCK. So glad i saw you live , love your style
It keeps getting better EVERYTIME I see and hear it!
His tapping is beyond gimmick. It is a language tool. Respect.
Thank you for sharing this!
That tight rhythm. 🤟🏾
Well, that was a clinic man, Reb has always been great 😎
Such a shredder.
One of the best riffs of the 80s. Underrated for sure. 🤙🏼
Reb f-in rules! A lot of modern day guitarists need to take note!
I've been doing the guitar faces 100% wrong too 🤣 3:06
Nice to see this reuploaded. I never understood why it was taken down.
I love Reb Beach. I wasn't a huge winger fan, but I love Miles Away and Reb Beach
Fabulous guitarist... should be revered by all
Reb is one of the best.
With out a doubt! Friggen love his style!
Joe Rogan sounds great on vocals! 🤟
How did I miss this guy after all of these years? He's really one of the best guitarists I've ever seen. Holy sh**!
Everyone in Winger was amazing. Their drummer was Rod Morgenstern.
You look great brother. Winger was such a talented group of musicians. 17 is one of my all time fav songs, one of the best riffs too. Keep rockin. 80s hair bands rule
Besides being a great lead player he is a killer rhythm player...
He’s got those big hands like Richie Kotzen. Makes his chording real interesting. 🤘🏼
She's only 54!!!
Yea they forgot to tell us that women rot lmao
😂
Lol.
Love that lick!
🤣
Dude... I seriously almost pissed my pants. Well, actually my Depends.
Rebbs tapping is always the true reward in that track.
Excellent!
Richard Earl will always be one of my favorite guitar players. Just a bad ass!
Glad that’s a microphone! I thought he had developed a huge mole 😂. Huge fan since I was 21. Amazing solos in every song 🤘🏻
That’s One Of The Best All Time 🎸 Hair Metal Songs
Wow, this guy's cover was pretty good. He should play in a Winger tribute band or something😄
Saw him at a Drone Sound guitar clinic in 1989 and he just shredded the joint. Sick as hell.
Rebs always been a badass and still is quality
That’s awesome,e that you took the time to put this out. Love the song. You guys killed it.
Kick arse

Just can’t help wondering how these lyrics would go over today! 😊
Awesome 🤘
"That's hard, I can't even play that." LOL! 😆
Reb, you created the guitar parts, so you get 100% authority on how that tune should be played.
No reason to play it wrong and make it harder.
Maaan, some guys just got it. Love that.
Perfect!!
Kickass chops.....
are you sure that’s how it goes? 😂 Awsome bro!,i remember when it came out what a great song, and killer guitar playing
I’ve said it before and I’ll die on that hill: Reb and Winger would have been taken way more seriously if Kip was kinda ugly.
Most definitely.
Kip’s model-caliber looks were a DETRIMENT to the band.
He was seen as and largely dismissed as a hair band pretty boy.
This is the best!! Thank you Reb!
Thanks so much for posting this! I learned something today.
Killer guitarist
Dude! This guy's tapping skills are 💯 lol dang
Killer track
And he does that shit standing up.......
He's great.
I was trying to find this video for ages! Thank you!
Same here. It was on some Japanese site years ago and disappeared. Glad it is finally back on UA-cam,
Man that’s some serious finger work. I’m afraid my hand would have given out. Sweet riff.
Looking more healthy Reb
Truly a badass player!
And that's the way it's done🤘🤘🤘🤘

That shit is epic.
Excellent video can you explain more of these song seventeen
Reb and Kip are absolute monsters, Kip composes classical pieces ffs!
MOAR PLZ, MR BEACH.
I don’t care what this guy says I’m listening to how Ben Eller plays it. 😤
Whats a ben ellen??
😂 this whole video I was thinking of how Uncle Ben taught me to play it
Uncle Ben is the man!
Reb Beech is Ben Eller's Step Dad... Reb may have banged more skanks though
I don’t know…I think I would rather learn from the originator than a cover.
I saw the thumbnail to this video and thought to myself, "This guy is even going out of his way to try and look like Reb Beach". LMAO
I thought it was another fan-created instructional video lol.
That was AWESOME!
Badasserie... through and through.
Would've loved to have heard this tune written with adult non-cheese lyrics. The musicianship is excellent.
Reb is such a badass
Vastly under-rated guitarist. Reb kills
F@€k, Reb is soooo underrated, one of then absolute best 😳
Holy shit who is this guy? That was an amazing cover
I just wonder if Kip was such a stickler for timing back in the day as he was on a rock camp episode I watched.
I’ve been playing it this way. The other way works if you can’t to the stretch.
he's such a monster on guitar.
In childhood all I knew it's just "I like this song" and "I don't like this song". Now with the internet you can access it anything, all I knew my childhood songs was played by great musicians....

PITTSBURGH’S FINEST.
But what are his thoughts Kirk Hammet?
and here I was wondering why I wasnt able to pull that tremolo picking part off. I am not making the right faces like 3:07
Cool
