Winger may have gotten a lot of flak, in no small part thanks to Beavis and Butthead, but they were much more talented musically than their look might have suggested. Reb has always had INSANE tapping chops, as the solo to this tune clearly demonstrates. He clearly has a knack for writing deceptively difficult riffs, as evidenced by the huge number of inaccurate tabs for this one out there. The off-time rhythm in this one hints at some serious jazz leanings in the rhythm section. Indeed, if any “hair metal” band had a candidate for “most progressive sounding,” Winger would probably be it. Thanks for the riff, Uncle Ben...now do the solo!

Kyle Adkins I didn’t say anything about the lyrical content. It’s cringeworthy, sure, but that’s not why I listen to this kind of music anyway. I’m not looking to be entertained from the lyrics, much less expecting a literary masterpiece, from any of these bands. The music is what I care about in the end.

Saw Winger live during their tour for their 2nd album and again just a couple years ago. They are still every bit as good if not better, than back in the day. Reb was/is light years ahead of the guitar players of the other bands that Winger was unfairly lumped in with. And neither Kip nor the band in general, NEVER received any of the musical respect they truly deserved, IMO.

Snapped it completely in half just below the knuckle. Surgery July 6th. I guess I tried too hard to rehab it so, Another x-ray on Sept 10th revealed that I broke the plate. Sept 11th, another surgery to remove and install another plate. It blows.

Have you seen this recently over the last five months? He plays it slightly different than the way you’re teaching it in the intro

Lol and so many people say "Hair metal bands of the 80's don't even have talent, it's all about their looks"...Umm yea, except some of those guitarists are EXTREMELY talented. This riff reminds me of the intro/main riff of 'Lay It Down' by Ratt. 🤘

If it really doesn’t matter what you hit on the down stroke I found it easier just to bar dg and b stings with my index finger and the tenth and eleventh fret up strokes with my middle and ring fingers

That shape reminds me of Ratt's Round And Round riff....I dont know why exactly, but maybe because I'm a lefty who plays a right handed guitar backwards with the strings reversed, but I have a hard time trying to play like a normal power chord shape but use my pinky to go down like 2 more frets to play the higher strings.... I tend to just play the main high strings part but without the bassline that your supposed to play altogether but maybe my hands are too small to stretch across comfortably, to where it sounds good.....it just feels really awkward to me trying to play all of it together but then I watch others cover it and they make it look so easy when it's not well atleast not to me.

Okay I think it's probably a coincidence but has anybody noticed that if you slow this down just a little bit and remove some of the flowery passing tones and just focus on the key notes of the melody, it has a lot in common with the intro Van Halen's Panama?

Great video. Female guitarist Phoenix van der Weyden does a brilliant cover of this song. A lot better than Winger performed on the videos I have watched of this song.

Ben I see you lifting your pinky up on the F# grab before playing the chug, does that help with the rhythm part before the arpeggiated part? Thanks

I saw someone else do a really good video on this except they evidently played one note wrong and Reb actually left a message in the comment section explaining the wrong note. 🤣
So I guess it's a high compliment that he didn't comment on your video. 😁
