    These two are ridiculously talented. Anyone who puts Kip Winger in solely the hair-band genre is clueless. The dude is a monster writer/musician.

    • @bdabassman
      @bdabassman Рік тому +1

      Agreed, but the lyrics on the first two records are complete garbage… I’ve never owned Pull or anything after, but compared to their musicianship, their biggest career mistake was not taking their lyrics or image seriously enough or realizing the negative impact their videos might have on their career.

    • @rubicon-oh9km

      @@bdabassman Young and money hungry lead to compromise. I probably would've done the same. I'm sure he looks back and cringes at some of what he did. I sure do regarding my youth.

    • @bdabassman
      @bdabassman Рік тому

      Kip was born in ‘61 making him 27 in 1988… Not to bust his balls but having been in Alice Cooper’s band prior, and having a guy like Morgenstein in the band, he could have made smarter decisions - or at least wrote better lyrics 😉🤷‍♂️

    • @rubicon-oh9km
      @rubicon-oh9km Рік тому +7

      @@bdabassman I don't know how well you remember that particular time in music. I do very much. "88 was the pinnacle of hair music. Record companies were throwing money around like it was Monopoly money to any artist who looked pretty and could write hit songs. Atlantic Records gave them a fat contract and they delivered. Did Kip and his fellow writer Reb cash in and compromise for the money? I have zero doubt. Did it hurt their careers down the road? Absolutely. They made a ton of money, banged a lot of beautiful women and lived the rock and roll dream in the short three years they were hot. Do I blame them? Nope. I would've done the same I'm sure. Luckily, these dudes have lived long enough to prove to the world they are much more than that.

      Strange how out of all the 'glam' metal bands of the 80s, Winger ended up being the band most people joked about and they are nothing like those bands. Their compositional and technical skills are way beyond that stuff. Thanks Stuart. 😤

    Pull is still on my top 5 all time list, seriously. I literally just remastered a couple tracks recently using Junkyard Dog as my main reference mix due to style. Incredibly hard to write song after song with dense composition and musicianship that is still enjoyable by non-musical people who just want pleasant commercial sound and don't even recognize all that is happening. ...and my drum kit is still the Premier Genista in Terraverde Green with the different sized kicks because Rod Morgenstein's drum clinic was incredible.

      @stevenattias1803 I would agree with that. Too me, Glam Metal is not even really musically definable. I just use it as an umbrella term certain Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Pop Metal, and Synth Metal bands of the 80s. I would consider Winger to be Progressive Pop Metal, not Hard Rock. When I think of the Hard Rock bands of the 80s, I typically think of the bands that had more of an Aerosmith and Blues feel.

      @tylerthorne7272 I never used those terms. It either depends on the sound. To me if a band was really heavy, they were metal. If they had ballads and could mix it up, they were hard rock Now the term hair band is used, which is really a derogatory tern. Les Zeppelin had long hair lol.

    Shows their great talent when they can sound that killer using 4 very inexpensive Shure microphones.

    When your vocal ability is like the sound of a fine instrument you are among just a handful of talent on the planet. In my humble opinion Kip Winger is part of that elite talent. It’s pathetic a few comments and seconds of video from an idiot drummer can severely damage a talented bands success and careers.

      Very unfortunate indeed. But Winger are still going strong and people love the new album. That's a win in the long run!

      To be fair, MuchMusic usually had large groups of people at the windows looking in, but it was 1993 and a rainy day to boot, so only one guy was there for Winger. If you check bigger bands like Bon Jovi, they had much bigger window crowds gathered.

    Maybe they can do a Country Album that has lots and lots of Acoustic guitar.

    Totally obvious now…why METALLICA made fun of winger….JEALOUSY…sounds weird, yes they kick ass, but still jealous…they were jealous of Dave mustain as well…probably a list of bands and artist,

      James did apologize to Kip later on, so we'll give him credit for that and consider the hatchet buried.
