The Hattori Ninja actually did use cat eyes to tell the time based on the dilation of their pupils. They didn't carry them around with them though, but the cat clock is at least partly historically accurate

If you're wondering about the cat thing at 5:55, cat's eyes dilate depending on the time of night, sometimes ninja and other types used to use that to determine how much time of night they have left.

Having done this challenge myself all the way through to ng+4, but allowing weapons for blocking and the consumable bombs, watching this is going to be very interesting.
Edit: Wow, I abandoned the idea of beating the dojo missions past the first 2, so I just allowed weapons thinking it was possible in theory, but not without lots of luck and grinding. Good to see it's actually reasonable given the right strategy.

I'm really excited by some runs for the series that I want to do in the near future. But each video is a passion project. In this case, I just really wanted to try out Nioh. I think that content tends to be better when the heart is there to produce it.
There are still some things I'd really like to try to branch out further into, but I'm not really in a rush. That giant skeleton is one of the scariest of the yokai. It's a monster of pure destruction, formed from the skulls of soldiers who died on the battlefield, or from a scene of mass starvation, or anywhere else where great numbers of people died without being buried. It's name translates to starving skeleton (or rattling skull), and all it does is stalk the world after a battlefield gives birth to it, chasing any victim it sees, grabbing them, and biting and chewing them to death.
It's like an early series Titan from AoT, just sprinting about and grabbing victims to eat, only instead of being stored inside the body, everything pours out of the ribcage.
They can also be invisible, and if a large enough battle occurs, they are also INVINCIBLE and can only be driven away by a high Shinto priest. Meaning the thirty foot or more giant skeleton can STALK YOU INVISIBLY and only jump you when it's posse has gathered.
And it's favored method of killing you, when it isn't just gobbling you down, is to bite your head off and squeeze the blood from your body like a capri sun into its gaping empty jaws, as it tries to slake its gnawing hunger and thirst, but it never can.
They are fast and tough as fuck and I don't think Nioh did them justice.

I feel like a lot will inevitably get lost when trying to translate giant bosses in games not built around them. At least while having it still be somewhat enjoyable. Gyuki in the second game for instance, I just didn't personally enjoy. It can be really hard to balance enemy speed, aggression, and areas that they threaten. Another one being Zorah Magdaros from Monster Hunter: World which was widely regarded as pretty underwhelming overall.

The second or third boss (Hino Enma) has an armor set and a charm item in the area leading up to her, all with paralysis resist. You will still get paralysed but only for a very brief moment.
Jumping down on a ledge in that area from above where you enter, you can get a very good spear. One of the best, if not the best, guaranteed weapon loot up to that point.
Most of her attacks do not need to be dodged and can be avoided by simply running laterally.
Any enemy is vulnerable to attacks while in the air and while on the ground she is vulnerable to Ki damage. Kicks usually do extra Ki damage and are very effective against her.
Bird guardian talismans are also super effective.
If you are feeling really brave, she can also be parried.

With the Centipede boss fight, one of the only reasons I was able to beat it is because I used a special Spear attack that allows you to swing it around and hit everything within 10 ft. of you. That attack in the very center of the centipede's body, multiple times allows you to wipe out about 3 of its sections right there before the other sections start running away.

The answer in short is you can only beat nioh with ninjitsu in its original story missions but not the story missions from its two DLCs because the bosses in DLCs are world apart from the main story. They are faster, more resistant to debuff (in the sense that debuff last shorter for certain bosses). Some DLC boss fights are more trauma-inducing because they require you to fight boss with mobs at the same time or fight 3 bosses consecutively with little time to replenish used item. They kinda render ninjitsu less effective on DLC bosses.

First time ever seeing one of your videos, and I really enjoyed it. I really liked that it happens to be similar to my build, too! I've got some fun history facts about the game, though, to maybe help you understand a bit more and maybe at least learn some cool facts if you didn't already know.
    1. Every major Japanese lord/human boss, the villain, as well as Edward and the Obsidian Samurai are all real people. In fact, many of the deaths that occur from these named characters are roughly when and where they died historically. That's why one lord sacrificed himself to save everyone in a burning castle. He died at that battle in real life.
    2. The main character, William Adams, was the real first European samurai. The Obsidian Samurai is also Yasuke, potentially the first ever African samurai.
    3. As people pointed out, Kelley was a real alchemist. What's not pointed out is that he died before the events of the game historically take place. His entire presence in-game is him after resurrecting from the dead, hence why the game refers to him as "the hollow man", as he historically should be dead and buried, but has been resurrected.
    4. The very beginning of the game, Hattori Hanzo, a real and arguably the most famous ninja of all time, checks a cat's eyes before commenting on how much longer until the sun comes up. This is a real old-school technique. Because of the construction and sensitivity of a cat's eyes, they can be used as a natural clock to tell how much longer day or night might last. It's not an exact science, but there are charts you can easily find by just googling cat-eye clock.
    5. Just to follow up something I said, yes, Hattori Hanzo was a very famous ninja. One might argue it a bad thing to be famous as a subterfuge agent, but it was a real thing that ninja would spread rumors about themselves to drive up fear and mystery, and since he worked directly for Tokugawa, they did keep records of him. Hanzo was said to be able to teleport, fly, and turn invisible, among many other things. He was also a samurai, master swordsman, and master tactician. He was so good as a ninja that he was responsible for the training and command of all other Iga ninja under the shogun. While yes he is a famous ninja, he really did have the talent to back up everything he did, and he is the reason why many ninja in pop culture, from Naruto to Overwatch, are named Hanzo.

      @SpuddyCube  Рік тому +5

Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! Also, I love fun facts!
I've since learned that the cast was largely based on history, but I hadn't heard/considered that their deaths were also correlated with it. That makes the burning building death make so much more sense!
It's interesting to see how some people have been integrated in culture through the years after things like shipwrecks. The necessity to adapt or die, I suppose.
That sort of makes sense in a way. I'd imagine the writers room was a sight to behold. Someone pitching a dead alchemist that, as far as I can tell sort of lost it in his later years. Or at the very least, was making some pretty grand claims. A perfect candidate for a walking dead man.
Shinobi techniques are fascinating in that they're archaic/eccentric. But also, they have a laundry list of somewhat fantastical ways of handling even mundane issues. It's hard to argue with their efficacy. Their use of things like gunpowder for instance being relatively ahead of its time.
It's similarly really interesting hearing about outliers. I'm not super well versed with the history, but I know that there were some major guidelines regarding conduct among shinobi. Things like height/weight ranges. Diets, wardrobe choices, etc. One of the bigger ones I've heard being identity due to the implications of the profession on your honor as a person. Living a more "honorable" lifestyle as a samurai as well seems odd while also being known as a shinobi. And... being famous for it even while alive. Goes to show that those that go against the grain tend to make their way into history more often though.

I'm sure you already know this by now, but the big bad is called Edward Kelley because he's based on a real guy named Edward Kelley. Though he was just some old english dude, so likely wore less ominous black robes and probably didn't have vampiric pale skin and probably wasn't evil incarnate. (Unless he was from liverpool, then all 3 of those become significantly more likely)

I'm at least fairly sure it can't be done on any of the OP levels. I think it's probably doable on normal if you start with it. I'm not sure at what point in between it stops being an achievable goal. I don't think I've ever tried using it before, but it looks like using a significantly more malicious Skyrocket. Which seems both funny and terrifying. Possibly requires some investigation.

People used to sit near the start or around other areas of the game and you could farm their revenants to get them
