One of my favorite things about the game that didn't get mentioned is how defensive parts are separate from the costumes, so you can be as drippy as you want and still have whatever defenses you want for ur build
@@Zyckroyou dont really need a reason tho just do it lmao. fun gameplay mechanics should take precedent over lore in almost every circumstance. people are gonna remember being able to do something fun, they aren’t gonna give a fuck that you can dress up differently without a lore explanation for why it works
It's a basic feature that should be present in any game of a similar type. FS not adding it to their games is just their usual bullshit like no pause menu or whataver. They like making the game experience a little shitty. Just because.
@@masterofsorrow2699 Your thinking is too shallow. Fromsoft not only does it for in-lore reasons, but because of co-op and invasions. A player should be able to look at another player and instantly tell how much poise they may/may not have, along with their defense. Wouldn't it be really stupid and annoying if you went to go fight a naked player, and they actually had havel's armor on but you just couldn't tell? It's funny you also bring up the no pause menu in the same comment, because it exists for similar reasons. 1# you can't just pause the game because being able to do so would take the stress out of encounters if you were allowed to catch your breath. Fromsoft's worlds are living and breathing, you can only catch breaks at bonfires or safe areas. 2# Fromsoft's games are always online with messages, player phantoms, and invaders. It should go without saying that a multiplayer game cannot have a pause button. Just because you don't understand something, doesn't mean it doesn't make sense or have reasons. Fromsoft knows what they're doing.
I mentioned that in my video talking about the demo but I didn't leave it in this one because I felt that I had already said enough that needed saying. But maybe I should have at least mentioned it here too
This game is wonderful in every aspect but one thing I don't see many people talking about is the soundtrack. The soundtrack is insane. I remember being so dissapointed when I got a record from completing a quest and then I took it back to the hotel and figured "why not see what this record is like" And then I turned on the collectable masterpiece known as Feel and just sat there for like 10 minutes listening to it on repeat.
When comparing the total of works against each other, Lies of P beats every Fromsoft...actually probably most Souls like. Ds3 and Bloodborne have a few tracks than stand out on top and just grab me every time, but when combined with their other tracks and compared to Lies of P, LoP just comes out on top. Also, the fact the game added a mechanic that enticed me to just stop and listen to a track with no other distractions...it was the first time that a game mechanic almost made me shed a tear. Beautiful is all I can say about the mechanic and the soundtrack
@@TB-zj1yy I agree with you whole heartedly. I can't wait for their dlc to drop. The creators leaked some images that make me suspect that not only will we have Dorethy from the Wizard of oz but also some of the characters from peter pan.
Brother same! When I finally turned them on I was stunned. It changed the rest of my experience and created beautiful moments. Because I ALWAYS turned it on from that point, it would be playing on the background during emotional moments/dialogues. Such as the King Of Riddle quest end dialogues. THEY HIT 10x HARDER. And the deaths... Or going back to the hotel and out on the corresponding record... It was so emotional and beautiful AND it is also a mechanic as it adds to our 'humanity meter' AND on newgame+ you get golden records which usually are alternative versions. The records EASILY became one of my many favourite things
Quick correction there is NO stat requirements for ANY weapon. But they do SCALE with different attributes. You can equip any weapon at any level without penalty
Ah, but you see? The From games are intentionally giving you mostly useless gear for your build to increase the thrill of finding an unupgraded weapon you’ll never use
Honestly one of my favorite features about this game. I really don’t like how Elden ring kinda forces you into one or two weapons without drastically changing your character.
I almost never replay games, once I'm done I typically move on to the next one. After I finished Lies of P I immediately started playing NG+ to refight the bosses and unlock the alternative endings this game is an absolute gem.
@@ricxwav6061 New Game plus, after you finish the game you start the game over again but you retain your character level, weapons, and items when you beat the game. As I've gotten older and have less time to play games, I really hate games that have a lot of backtracking and having to remember to go back for items ,quests ,chests and doors that you couldn't unlock before. So I really loved that feature where it reminds you of who to speak to or which quest can be completed. Made the game so much more enjoyable and less overwhelming for me.
Yeah. In souls games, I usually just play blindly at first and then on NG+ I will try to do all the quest and that means holding my phone and searching every guide on the internet. It's not fun at all. Just doing it for the trophies. But I have no complains because it's almost tradition at this point 😂
@@Digger-Nick have you play any fromsoft game or are u just hating cause u can never "git gud" lol. The thing here is you don't really need to do any of the quest to finish the game. @@capolean2902I think you're talking about Abyss Watchers and yes, it's pretty annoying A few days ago I felt like trying to play ds3 again after beating LoP, and a single runback to Wordt made me feel like I don't want to play the souls trilogy anymore lol
Im hoping its going to be red riding hood if the end cutscene is to be believed, they say dorothy so its more likely that its the wizard of oz but im really hoping its a bait and switch and we get bloodborne 2 as little red riding hood. The dark souls fanbase is foaming at the mouth for another beast based horror souls take.
On my second play through now. In my experience, what works for LOP is the fact that, you are actually encouraged to use all your defensive options. As in, the game implies to you that parrying is important, but actually, the game is so much easier if you use all 4 defensive options. Those being “Parrying”, “Dodging”, “Blocking”, and “Run the fuck away”. Blocking looks weak at first, but the more you play, the more you will realize “wait I don’t have to parry the whole combo, I can just block it and rally back my health”. And for fury attacks, you don’t have to learn how to parry all of them, some are just much easier to dodge outside the hitbox instead. As a result, “optimal play” for different player and playstyles can vary a lot, and it doesn’t feel like there is a single “correct” playstyle like Sekiro.
Different builds also encourages different defensive strategies. For example, the Two Dragon Blade costs a lot of stamina to R1, which means you don’t have much stamina to dodge with s. However, your R1 repositions you, so “position yourself to not get hit” often becomes the optimal defense option.
@@akirachisaka9997twin dragon swords have to be the most depth adding weapon I have ever seen in these games. Attacks that have built in dodges, slight ranged abilities with its fable art, a built in parry completely unique and different to all other parties in the entire game that has its own timing and is built into the weapon as opposed to being a FP ability and the dog on its other fable attack. That weapon has more depth to it than all 400+ weapons in Elden Ring or any in dark souls period. It's why when I got it I just couldn't go back to anything else again.
Just got done fighting the victor dude whatever his name is big guy, that's when I learned the importance of staying the fuck away from attacks as much as possible and swoop in for quick hits only to run away again lmao
@@thedoomslayer5863Agreed, although I can and will go back to souls games. After beating LoP 3 times, I loaded DS3, and honestly it just felt so soulless and empty. It really drives home the point that Dark Souls games have no emotion or feelings.
@@AlyxTheProtogenI suggest trying with a slow weapon build, too. The hitboxes are so perfect that using the slowest attacks is still possible against the fastest bosses with proper positioning. Land mines are a benefit of that build, too. 😈
20:08 so this is basically the Monster Hunter sharpness mechanic, which is the only durability mechanic that makes sense. It adds another layer of rhythm by getting the player to think about when they can withdraw and sharpen safely. Put another way: if strikes and dodges are the quarter and eighth notes of this rhythm game, sharpening is the rest note you have to work into the beat.
I actually didn't bother with sharpening that much since I went for the bonesaw/wrench+baton build, charge attacks + puppet string. I realized the game was too easy with those weapons so on the new game+ i went for a more vanilla build and it was definitely more fun and hard.
Except even monster hunter's revolves around not losing sharpness. 80% of the sharpness-related skills (in MHR&W) are made for you to sharpen less, and with the recent changes they made to Wilds, it looks like they're becoming aware that their outdated design philosophy and decided to rework the sharpness gain. Lies of P is quick, and lets you choose how much you want to sharpen. Doesn't take away agency from the player and hardly ever feels like a burden.
I finished the game last night and god damn it was a FANTASTIC game. I got so invested in the story, parrying has never felt so satisfying, combining weapons is such a great feature and the fact that you can change the scaling with the cranks is HUGE! It gives you an incentive to use whatever blade you want. The boss fights were awesome (except *cough*Simon*cough*), the Brotherhood fight was finally a gank fight DONE RIGHT. This is definitely my favourite game this year.

@@erwingoldenballs7382elden ring is just too big and I don’t really like open worlds. I like how they can focus on a smaller game and really polish the maps and the combat.
There is something that every single developer overlooks while designing... The weight of the characters and the rythm used in walking animation, that can convey the power of the build but it always lacks
Seriously! I’ve felt this way forever. I am immediately drawn to or critical of a game based on the core animations...especially walking/running since that’s usually the primary means of travel. They don’t have to be hyper realistic but they need to make sense for the character and look fluid. Something about a wonky walk/run just rubs me the wrong way.
This is my first experience in souls like games and i can honestly say this is one of the best games i have ever played. Nioh is one of the best in the souls like genre. There is a lot of depth in the combat. There are skill trees for all weapons, and what sets it apart is that it allows you to change stances.
One of the things that Lies of P does so well is original music. This is so evident in the records you can collect. You don't have to listen to them but if you do you are not only rewarded with character progression but the music itself is so damn good that even those moments feel just as satisfying as the combat. In fact I love that you have to go back to the Hotel to play them. In those moments I find myself reflecting on my progress thus far and begin to get excited for as to what comes next.
These are actually reworked songs that neowiz has been involved with before in a game called DJMax (I believe). Most, if not all, the songs were originally created years prior. However, I feel like the reworks are masterful in adding depth to LoP
I stumbled across this video on complete chance and it’s beautiful to see someone who shares the same love for this game. I never played any souls game besides Elden ring and started sekiro and because of this parry system it has pushed me to excel at sekiro. Also, the ending had the best heart warming moment with the Facination (Golden). Best song on the OST
Im on my first play through, and i noticed that the puppet bosses talk. Then i noticed what they say (im working on beating the kings flame fueco) and im already like... oof theres layers here
I love how it shows what they say on the second playthrough. Also as you lie more and become more human (literally) you can hear P change from just mechanical sounds to grunts and breathing and sounds of pain. As well as the death animation can change from regular puppet deactivating to more lifelike death. It’s neat attention to detail and makes the choices actually worthwhile

Aside from your Dark Souls 3 take (not sure what's going on there), I agree with everything in this video. Your parrying vs dodging explanation is brilliant and really eye opening when you think about what makes a game like this more engaging. Really shows how important and influential the introduction of the mechanics in Sekiro were to the genre. I just got this game a couple days ago, but I'm about 6 hours in and completely hooked. There have always been moments in fromsoftware games where I'll think to myself "I'm not a fan of this boss/area," but so far I haven't had any of those thoughts with this game, but rather every new boss or area I come across I love even more than the last one. You really don't need to spend time in menus in Nioh, just pick up everything you see and between every few missions just sell it all or convert your stuff into materials. If you do happen to get a rarer piece of armor/weapon then it's worthwhile to check it immediately, but otherwise you can just skip the menu hell entirely, so it's not really that different from dark souls.

I finished Lies of P and it was hard but I loved it. Then I went to Lords of the fallen. And that made me realize how much of a quality game that P was. @@synnical77 I like them both, I just think the teams had different niches they were trying to build out. LotF built exploration and interconnectedness so so so much more and the whole world is seamless. If you don’t have performance issues, it’s a really great game. Lies of P in contrast is mostly hallway type levels and it isn’t bad but it’s not nearly as intricate or impressive to explore. The combat, however, is tighter in many ways to its credit. The only feature it really feels off to not have is the weapon switching from LotF. Overall they’re both great. I just prefer the block/parry/dodge split in Lies of P, and the story it’s telling.

@@ashleygray1632 I wouldn't say Elden Ring was their pinnacle, it's not even their best to date. The size of it, and the open world crippled the formula somewhat imo.
I think you're mistaking something about Dark Souls' combat: it's _supposed_ to be focused on the enemies over the player. It's a game where you have to always be on the look out for opportunities to attack bosses and attack them then rather than on your own terms (unless your build facilitates that). Dark Souls is a game where bosses tell the player, "Die", as they bounce around the battlefield and hit you with everything they have, and the player's response is, "No, I don't think I will". You don't beat bosses, they try to beat you and, after taking the beating, you say, "Is that all you've got?", before walloping them. If you like Lies of P's combat over Dark Souls', that's okay, but what the two games' combat try to achieve are entirely different. They're different in the same way that Dark Souls and Bloodborne combat is different: one is slow and methodical, where you have to balance defense and offence, while the other is aggressive, where your offence is also your defense.
Lies of P is wasy easier too. And from what I can tell there are no early on traps like in Dark souls. Lies of P is inspired by souls but for sure its own methodical action style.

I disagree that you need to learn to parry to beat Lies of P. I beat the game and every boss in the game without ever learning to parry. I relied almost entirely on dodging and sprinting around to avoid attacks.
I sucked at parrying in this game and still managed to beat it just fine. It definitely took longer than it would have, had I taken the time to really get good at it. I just really had a very hard time getting the timing right, so instead of continuously getting murdered while trying to parry, I realied on dodging and guard regain instead. You touched on 2 things that ive some of the biggest gripes ive had with as im going through my very first FS/Elden Ring playthrough: 1. The obscurity of quests and following them. NPCs describe them in ways that are incoherent if you were were not born in the 15th century and there is no way to track them or see how much you have progressed. this ties into another issue i have which is the item descriptions having no specific number details. If its FS attempting to stop players from min-maxing builds they have failed because there wouldnt be as many guides/calculators/YT videos dedicated for them. 2. You are not incentivized to fight ER bosses aggressively because of their combo chains. say a moveset has 3-5 combos. doing 2 movesets back to back is completely fine. however the issue becomes more and more annoying when the bosses can do 3 or more movesets straight without any real stamina cost on their part. on top of that they can jump out of the punish window by the second hit and immediately follow it up with attacks that will 1-2 shot your healthbar, while you are stuck in animation. IMO it quickly turns the experience of beating bosses from a sense of accomplishment to now a sense of relief because of the game artificially punishes you with what feels like gimmicks.
I'm ecstatic to see you finally blow up with this vid! Hugely well-deserved and you should be immensely proud! (Also, you convinced me to play Lies of P, haha.)
I never touched Soulsborne games because I'm a sucker for a story. I don't like it when I have to watch 45 lore yt videos to explain to me the lore and story of the main characters or the world I'm in. I also hate the medieval setting, I never said those games are bad, just not for me. When I saw the LoP announcement vid I knew I'd get this game because it tapped all the right chords (at that time) for me. Setting, aesthetics, character/enemies design, atmosphere. When the demo dropped I played it for 8h, getting good at parrying and feeling so good when I got that satisfying *cling* sfx and the weapons of the enemies/bosses breaking. I grew to love all its characters, felt for the NPCs and the unnamed people of Krat, LOVED the battle even through NG+3. This game is GOTY for me and I feel so privileged to have played and appreciate it. Subbed. ETA: I must've spent 2h in-game just listening to the random accordion songs that are played through the city's windows. This game is oozing atmosphere and world story telling.
Just to say you're missing out on so much dope lore. The FS series are just so dense that you have hours of lore. I get that you dont like it, but you can still listen to them like an audio book.
@@victord.monkey9081 There's many people that have commented that to me when I start mentioning the reason I don't play FS games and I appreciate all those that are trying to suggest the games for me, but if I have to listen to an audio book, am I still immersed in what I'm doing in-game? Also, like I said, medieval/fantasy settings are not my cup of tea. I did hear some rumors about Bloodborne being remade and I might give that one a try!
Cannot wait for the DLC, I hope it’s not as linear and same with the sequel. I’d like to see more customization options also, like being able to choose what coat, shirt, and pants you can wear instead of just one big outfit. Maybe dyes also
Lie of p look pretty good, I'll try it when it goes on sale. I'm more of a nioh 2 stan. The combat in that game makes me say, "Oh good heavens, im about to splurge." The crack addled switchglave bayblade combat is beautiful.
its actually so nice to see someone have same thoughts as me i personally like sekiro much but all of from software games has been defeated by lies of p by my side nice video btw liked it so much
The reason for me that lies of P is so good is that it takes the good from soulslike games and then adds its own elements and mechanics to improve upon it. The appeal of these games is the difficult enemies, realistic combat e.g. parry, side step, roll, block etc. and customisation of combat through weapons and abilities. A lot of studios get inconvenience/annoying/tedious mixed up with difficulty and thats what ruins some titles e.g. lords of the fallen. A game thats not a soulslike but takes these elements really well is god of war, some bosses in this game are close to the difficulty of the hardest souls bosses e.g. sigrun, god king etc
Another method of avoiding enemy attacks that gives even MORE options to the player is that most enemies in Lies of P have a pretty short reach, and therefore, simply running away or dancing around them is often pretty effective - even against most fury attacks! I definitely relied on that fact before I knew the attack timings. Elden Ring is equally dear to my heart, but it was kind of refreshing when Lies of P tended to pit me against bosses smaller than buildings, whose attacks didn't sweep the entire arena.
Did you even play Lies of P for more than 20 minutes? The first boss is large and has aoe attacks. I will freely admit the bosses and enemies are not overdone in size like Elden Ring, but there are plenty of large mobs in that game, including bosses. Some enemies may have short reach, but there are also plenty that have long reach. The clown that throws out his fists? Laxasia and the spear that is 50 feet long all of a sudden? Laxasia when she does her upward swipe attack combo can also skate forward and track you. The game is good but I'm tired of people ignoring things like this to make a point that doesn't exist.
@@georgen5882did you? The green monster has that reaching slam fury that if you run under his legs he completely whiffs it. And this puts you right behind him to punish. Alot of fury attacks can be avoided by backing off or being smart with movement if you can't perfect block them consistently. Scrapped was easy enough to learn the timing of so I just perfect blocked everything and strafed left before hitting.
@@CursedOniGaming I played it too along with the other souls series, but kinda liked this game better. I was hesitant to play this game at first (I was expecting its another souls rip-off), but I really loved the game and its mechanics.
@@jedagoncilloallot of people, prominent people in the souls area, are saying the same. This game is just better and the from stans, of which I was one, need to grow up. Every king falls. Elden was overrated to begin with. Check the user scores. Elden sits at a 7
@@johndodo2062I kinda think so too. I enjoyed playing Elden Ring, but I liked this game better. It took some elements from other souls games but man, did not expect that this game did it better. Even my kids love it. haha
You definitely haven't understood the system Nioh has in place properly and this is the issue i see most fromsoft players have with the game. You don't need to sit in the menu and meticulously go through each gear piece as you are progressing. There are levels and rarities and simple damage numbers which exist in every game of this type, while also having 2 main stats to look into being weight and toughness stuff that exists in all of these types of games. Additional effects are simply that additional effects you can search and look at what they are but while u progress through the game you do not need that. These buffs give you some of the most extensive build variety of any action combat game out there in the end game. You get your loot and build whatever you want, that's the endgame of nioh. What Dark souls games force you into for the most part is sticking with 1 weapon due to the lack of upgrade material, this is incredibly limiting in terms of build and doesn't allow experimentation on the part of the player and is there to create a fake sense of replay value in these games, meanwhile in nioh you can pick up whatever gear piece, build and weapon you want you can experiment so incredibly much with it that it's simply incredible. Nioh has a bunch of other flaws, i.e the enemy balancing and some level design elements. Nioh 2 fixes every issue and improves the game 1000 fold and is the ultimate game of this genre and has yet to be dethroned. Highly recommend it to everyone who hasn't tried it
There are other problems in nioh - the combat system is just fine, but - you have few opponents and their variety to use them The problem of the design of locations and opponents While playing 1 nioh, I found myself thinking that I was playing the alpha version of a promising project with a combat system rather than a full-fledged game The gear system frustrated me and knocked me out of the dive with its numbers - I hate such lazy progression systems and it would be better if they didn't exist The god of war has the same problem with equipment
@@Levin_sun If we are strictly talking nioh 1 then yeah the lack of enemy variety is a real thing which was remedied in nioh 2, however they compensate the lack of enemy variety by adding the quality to these encounters, each monster is unique in how you approach and fight them, with varied movesets especially in nioh 2, some nioh 2 regular enemies have more moves than bosses in the souls series, i'd fight 10 more Fuki or Suiki before half the boss roster in the first 3 souls games. The visual design of all of the yokai enemies is also great and fits the lore they ascribe to, both with the moves and looks. Now as for the locations all of the main story locations for both Nioh 1 and Nioh 2 are unique and some are absolutely amazing like the Mausoleum of Evil is just incredible, not to mention the DLC areas. and while sure the levels don't have those shortcuts or whatnot from the original souls game, they are indeed more linear with more planned out encounters that's a preference thing and not a real indictment on the game itself. The Equipment thing is again your own personal preference. In Dark Souls the way you get better equipment is by choosing a weapon and being forced to choose precisely not knowing what you might eventually get and focus on that weapon due ot the scarcity of materials and then only in NG+ can you begin experimenting properly without fully hampering your damage. Nioh games use a calassic ARPG style where weapons are tied to specific stats and bonuses, mind you you can ignroe these unless you are going for a full endgame build which is the same way it works in any classic ARPG which is what nioh's system is. You can just go and grab the bigger and better weapon and keep on trucking or you can just use your first katana and beat the game just fine, you aren't limited in what you can or cannot use you aren't forced to choose a specific weapon and stick to it you are encouraged to diversify and use whatever you like and build whatever diverse build you like, while being able to respec whenever you so please. It's just a completely different system that you didn't engage with properly because you either aren't a fan of such a system or you don't like the system to begin with, either way that is not a flaw with the game inherently, it's a preference thing. I like way more being able to use any weapon i want swapping based off the boosts that i like and just changing up weapons on the go, whereas in dark souls i grab the strongest bonking stick level it up and never change because of the scarcity of materials, it's just a different system.
Good vid! It’s funny the “improvements” you mentioned such as having a clear story and having quest marks are their downfalls to me when I played it because I prefer vague stories and discovering quests on my own😂
Dark Souls has no fucking story lmao. They write random item descriptions per zone and call it Lore. They even say that they just randomly shoehorn lore into items to make it sound good. It has Lore, not a "Story"
One thing I never hear anyone talk about when they mention the guard recovery system, is it doesn’t just rally if you hit the enemy but you also rally when perfect guarding, turning a defensive mechanic into an offensive mechanic on top of causing the enemy to be groggy or break their weapon makes your options to rally more engaging in how you wanna regain health. And how you wanna be aggressive, be it damage or poise/weapon health
In my opioniong thos game is way better than bloodborne beat bloodborne 3 tims and im half way through lies of p and its significantly better just my opinion @silkspectre7979
This has been one of the video games where I gave myself the opportunity to get to know this genre and the truth is that I was captured by this game. Its design never pleased me with this genre but now I enjoy it more and it gives me the opportunity to try other games like from software
Another reason why I personally prefer the parry (in sekiro, havent played lies of p yet) over the mandatory dodge roll, is because Ive always felt like dodgerolling in souls games, while necessary to survive, doesnt look like it should realistically prevent the damage it prevents. For some fights and enemies it makes perfect sense, but in other cases something bigger than the screen chomps down onto you and everything around you in a 5 mile radius and you simply seem to turn into a ghost for the duration of your i-frames. It doesnt look like you dodge, it just looks like the attacks phase through your body without damaging you, which is something you obviously get used to and learn to ignore when you play from soft games, but at the same time it feels a lot less satisfying than landing a chain of parries in sekiro. My brain has a way easier time believing that I somehow parried that huge attack with my own weapon than that I would simply roll through it without being hurt. On top of that there are of course attacks that you cannot parry and then have to jump over or roll away from, but in souls games the dodgeroll quickly turned into a universal solution for everything, no matter if it made sense or not, and that just doesnt feel as satisfying to me.
It's more satisfying because it's quicker, lets you control your position (you remain where u were), is more responsive, looks way cooler than rolling in dirt like a pig, and due to being quicker u can have bosses do a giant flurry of near instant swings and have it be perfect for a rapid parry session whereas with a roll those quick follow ups would "roll catch" you and it would feel unfair.
This game is a master piece didn't got hooked by a game since Elden Ring but Lies of P did better it actually maked me cried with the insanes boss fights where you learn with each defeat, or the atmoshere of the game and the ost. My heart never beat so hard and my eyes never cried so much before this game.
My favorite part about lies of p is the fact it always lets you stay in the fight when you're low on heals or have none. In other souls games there's been so many times where Im just like "welp I've lost now" and that's pretty much gone now. It allows us to be decently aggressive instead of running away doing one hit when we're low on everything.
@@gigapac Usually when that happens you already are close the end of the fight already. If it's early and you lost all your heals its basically over most of the time. I beat some bosses low hp anyways, but the regen just keeps runs alive and learn their moves easier. If I could fight a LONG fight like midir with heal regens I'd probably like the fight more.
@@galaxyvulture6649 ohhhh yeah I understand that's totally fair that's a super frustrating feeling when you get caught in a combo like 3 times in a row early because of one mistake and lose all your estus
Yeah it's like sekiro, since you have good defense mecanics, you can still play even low on health, the other souls game where you only have your roll and you know there are some bosses attacks that are near impossible to dodge so being low early on the fight means you'll lose.
yea felt like an amalgamation of the genre, trully inspired by the previous. put some notes and went to the drawing board polishing out the rough edges.
Im so glad I finally tried this genre, I always wrote off sword games and was a typical COD fanboy for years but now I have so many amazing games to experience for the first time
Alright so I recently have started playing Lies of P I’m no veteran souls like player as I have only beaten bloodborne and elden ring sure i have played ds 3 and sekiro but I didn’t beat them specially sekiro as I suck truly suck at parrying most of the time so I dropped sekiro But this game was different. It was the first time I really wanted to try it out solely because it was Pinnoccio I was playing as and the gothic atmosphere which reminded me of bloodborne this game basically is the perfected version of sekiro and bloodborne combined. What this game has is the fact that you ate versatile enough to deal with enemies the way you see fit. For me? I want to parry as it feels nice to stagger enemies and knowing the fact that they are just as vulnerable as I am and knowing that they might lose their own weapons with just me parrying them and also what you didn’t point out was that Human bosses have different builds just like us. Fir example Lady in white felt much easier for me to handle since I had the same build and same weapon type and move sets (was using etiquette) and it just felt exciting to know that she could parry me just like how I could parry her. i really found Romeo the hardest boss for me (I have not yet finished the game but he just felt extremely scary to beat) what romeo had was Technique build with advance but he felt like he had just a little bit of everything in him and honestly he was too fast for me to parry so i dodged and dodged and parried like 2 times but to me, every boss improved my parrying skill a bit. specially romeo and mad donkey. I just think that this game really deserves all the praise it gets and I hope to see a dlc for it probably soon.
Fantastic video! Im curious to hear why you have DS2 so high on your list? That's wild to me, i thought it was such a rough experience and couldnt hold a candle to their other games
I like ds2 so much for the atmosphere and the story, I like the departure from the "kindle the flame" quest. It's hyper grim world and melancholy settings are immersive. And the gameplay is punishing but manageable once you get used to the loop. I really don't participate in the toxic "people are dumb for not liking my favorite dark souls" argument, and I love each of the games. It's pointless and nonsensical to say that each of the games don't have their merits and pitfalls.
So whenever I play a game of any genre, the base expectation I have is that I'm going to enjoy it. That's it. I'm going to enjoy the gaming experience of what I paid for. I'm not looking for the best gaming experience of my life or some genre-defining spectacle. Just something I'll enjoy playing for the time I play it. I had the same expectations for Lies of P. When I tell you this game GREATLY exceeded my expectations. The story, level design, weapons, enemies, boss fights, music (OMG the MUSIC!!!!) like man this game is one of the best games I've played this year.
I think the key aspect a lot of 'souls-likes' miss, along with Lies of P, is the ability to get lost and veer off path. Dark Souls, Bloodbourne, Sekiro have a level of mystery with them that has not been replicated in the same mysterious way. The ability to veer off of path, or go somewhere completely different and realise there is an obstuction/path that cannot be accessed until you reach a certain level of progression in another area is invaluable. An example in DS1 - You have 7 locations from the get go that are all woven together. For example you CAN go into the catacombs right at the start, however you will reach the yellow blocked door that you cannot access until later. This feeling of 'oh wow ive discovered this, but i need something to get past it', is CRUCIAL to the feeling of awe and mystery that Souls games posess. Even bloodbourne which is more linear. After Cathedral ward you can choose different paths to venture down that converge or serve purpose to another location that you have to find.
yep this is my problem with lies of p i think, and why i just dont enjoy it as much as everyone else or nearly as much as the fromsoft titles, you can get lost inside of a level in lies of p, but you cant get lost inside the world
The thing I love the most about lies of p is creating new weapons and creating a new combat style that way. Imagine an elden ring type game where you can pick an ash of war, a combat art, plus all the normal attacks each weapons have. It makes it a souls game that feel like absolver allowing you to create not just a character but your own weapon and combat style
I feel the same but for Nioh 2. It's got a great gameplay loop with draining an enemy of stamina allowing you to go ham at them And the quality of life changes makes it feel so much better than the original fromsoft games
Liking DS2 and disliking i-frames is based, but I do disagree with your opinion on Nioh. Nioh doesn’t just have an interesting combat system, it’s a great combat system. It’s so much more than just the stances. It’s honestly my equivalent of how you see LoP, and I haven’t even played Nioh 2 yet. I don’t personally care that much about the loot system but you can easily just look at the loot after you’ve cleared the mission instead of during it. And chances are that 90% is going to be sold, offered to gain amrita, and disassembled anyway. And then another 9% will be used for things like Soul Matching, and the remaining 1% is what you’re actually going to be using.
A bit late to the party, but watching the video, it was like someone (for the most part) was reading my own thoughts and impressions of Lies of P back to me. To me, after +100 hours and a few playthroughs, Lies of P has joined hands with other videogame Gods in the pantheon of gaming. Making a decent souls game is deceptively hard. It's like the production of an orchestra. There are many bits and piece to it, but in the end it's the gestalt and the culmination of those pieces that matters. If a single part is below decent, not only is it felt by the audience but it also hurts the overall impression of the product. To everyone's surprise, LoP feels like a game made by veteran Souls developers while delivering the creativity of a fresh mind. Its existence would be utterly unbelievable if it wasn't in front of our eyes already. It gets so many things right that even with its minor flaws it feels morally wrong to give it anything but a 10/10.
at 4min i even forgot this was a video about Lies of P. Good job on the narration dude! I watch so much content and for you to be able to do that to me means you have a super engaging voice and timing.
In my opinion, Lies of P offers levels that are mainly straightforward, less interconnected than DS1 except one area you included that obviously becomes the best area. It offers combat that has less potential dedicated build variety, instead focusing on secondary numbers, and blocking even few essential combat abilities, that exist by default in every similar game, behind a skill tree. In addition, it offered a demo which had less showcase than Nioh's beta demo that featured 4 or 5 levels and bosses instead of 3. Also, the game featured bosses that were less memorable than your least favorite from software game mostly cranking the difficulty by adding random numbers to attack timings while not telegraphing correctly. However, it offered a better durability system that turned it into a management mini game, mix and match mechanic and a rally system that has been implemented in a more superior way in Lords of the Fallen with its Metacritic score of 72. I can't see it ruining Dark Souls for me to be real, guess we are all happy with ourselves! Wish you all the best though, I just stated my personal experience as you did. Cheers🤗
It's all a moot point anyways since without 15 years of Souls we'd never have gotten LoP anyhow. Whether it ruins or not is secondary to the fact that From created a genre, whilst LoP is simply an entry in that genre.
Great video im glad you loved it as much as i did. I felt like it achieved everything From does, but the music and atmosphere and easier story to follow added so much. And Sophia ofc ❤
i feel heard, i legit cannot for the life of me finish ds3, its so unenjoyable, yet ive replayed ds1 many times and have all the achievements and was in the process of doing the same for ds2

This game is wonderful in every aspect but one thing I don't see many people talking about is the soundtrack. The soundtrack is insane. I remember being so dissapointed when I got a record from completing a quest and then I took it back to the hotel and figured "why not see what this record is like" And then I turned on the collectable masterpiece known as Feel and just sat there for like 10 minutes listening to it on repeat.
same, "feel" is literally a masterpiece and evokes emotion perfect for the game
When comparing the total of works against each other, Lies of P beats every Fromsoft...actually probably most Souls like. Ds3 and Bloodborne have a few tracks than stand out on top and just grab me every time, but when combined with their other tracks and compared to Lies of P, LoP just comes out on top.
Also, the fact the game added a mechanic that enticed me to just stop and listen to a track with no other distractions...it was the first time that a game mechanic almost made me shed a tear. Beautiful is all I can say about the mechanic and the soundtrack

The writer of P actually wrote on a game coming up that takes place in Italy, cant remember the name but it's a souls like coming this year.

Missing out on peak🔥

Its really unfair having the soundtrack in the background😂. Memory of Beach just about took me out. Amazing video

I sucked at parrying in this game and still managed to beat it just fine. It definitely took longer than it would have, had I taken the time to really get good at it. I just really had a very hard time getting the timing right, so instead of continuously getting murdered while trying to parry, I realied on dodging and guard regain instead. You touched on 2 things that ive some of the biggest gripes ive had with as im going through my very first FS/Elden Ring playthrough:

This game is oozing atmosphere and world story telling.
thanks so much :') WE MUST SPREAD THE GOOD WORD OF P

Maybe dyes also
Great video. Still haven't gotten around to playing it. Really looking forward to it.
Lie of p look pretty good, I'll try it when it goes on sale. I'm more of a nioh 2 stan. The combat in that game makes me say, "Oh good heavens, im about to splurge." The crack addled switchglave bayblade combat is beautiful.
As someone who has never played lies of P, I agree.
You're so real for this
its actually so nice to see someone have same thoughts as me i personally like sekiro much but all of from software games has been defeated by lies of p by my side nice video btw liked it so much
Came to your channel for the Lies of P video (I’m late to the party!), stayed and subbed because it’s class. Keep up the great work.
This is the only game I tried to finish thrice. The weapon builds and stat builds are really really interesting for experimentation!
Elden ring did it better!

Highly recommend it to everyone who hasn't tried it
There are other problems in nioh - the combat system is just fine, but - you have few opponents and their variety to use them
The problem of the design of locations and opponents
While playing 1 nioh, I found myself thinking that I was playing the alpha version of a promising project with a combat system rather than a full-fledged game
The gear system frustrated me and knocked me out of the dive with its numbers - I hate such lazy progression systems and it would be better if they didn't exist
The god of war has the same problem with equipment
Good vid! It’s funny the “improvements” you mentioned such as having a clear story and having quest marks are their downfalls to me when I played it because I prefer vague stories and discovering quests on my own😂
To each their own!
Dark Souls has no fucking story lmao. They write random item descriptions per zone and call it Lore. They even say that they just randomly shoehorn lore into items to make it sound good. It has Lore, not a "Story"
@@CurrehMoFo oh lol that’s funny, I haven’t had a chance to play DS yet.
Truly an amazing game. Lies of P is my first real soulslike & it made me fall in love with the sub genre.

When youre vibing to a video hard and it takes a shot at Alan Wake II for no reason (my GOTY) 💀 jokes aside, excellent video
Bro that's crazy one of the most satisfying things in dark souls is killing that boss you've been stuck on with 0.1 HP
Im so glad I finally tried this genre, I always wrote off sword games and was a typical COD fanboy for years but now I have so many amazing games to experience for the first time
You're gonna have a BLAST :')
Welcome to the real world
Nioh has THE BEST movement and combat BY FAR so make sure you really give it a good try one day.
Alright so I recently have started playing Lies of P
I’m no veteran souls like player as I have only beaten bloodborne and elden ring
sure i have played ds 3 and sekiro but I didn’t beat them specially sekiro as I suck truly suck at parrying most of the time so I dropped sekiro
But this game was different. It was the first time I really wanted to try it out solely because it was Pinnoccio I was playing as and the gothic atmosphere which reminded me of bloodborne
this game basically is the perfected version of sekiro and bloodborne combined.
Fir example Lady in white felt much easier for me to handle since I had the same build and same weapon type and move sets (was using etiquette) and it just felt exciting to know that she could parry me just like how I could parry her.
i really found Romeo the hardest boss for me (I have not yet finished the game but he just felt extremely scary to beat)
what romeo had was Technique build with advance but he felt like he had just a little bit of everything in him
and honestly he was too fast for me to parry so i dodged and dodged and parried like 2 times but to me, every boss improved my parrying skill a bit. specially romeo and mad donkey.
I just think that this game really deserves all the praise it gets and I hope to see a dlc for it probably soon.
Bro HOW haven't you beaten Elden Ring yet?! Get on it! Surely you can't have very much of your playthrough left
Fantastic video! Im curious to hear why you have DS2 so high on your list? That's wild to me, i thought it was such a rough experience and couldnt hold a candle to their other games
This guy is clearly delusional. Puts ds 2 above ds 3
I don't get it either. DS2 is my least favorite one, by far. It is noticeable that it's the only one not directed by Miyazaki
@@rocopoco1361 Ds3 is the worst one lol, my order would be ds2, ds1, ds3
So whenever I play a game of any genre, the base expectation I have is that I'm going to enjoy it. That's it. I'm going to enjoy the gaming experience of what I paid for. I'm not looking for the best gaming experience of my life or some genre-defining spectacle. Just something I'll enjoy playing for the time I play it. I had the same expectations for Lies of P. When I tell you this game GREATLY exceeded my expectations. The story, level design, weapons, enemies, boss fights, music (OMG the MUSIC!!!!) like man this game is one of the best games I've played this year.
It's SO GOOD
I absolutely LOVED that in NG+ you get additional P-organ trees that are super powerful. It made playing the game into NG++ an absolute treat
It's got a great gameplay loop with draining an enemy of stamina allowing you to go ham at them
And the quality of life changes makes it feel so much better than the original fromsoft games
Can I play it without playing the first one
@@viviennewestwoodruinedmylife Nioh 2 is a prequel to Nioh, but yes they work as standalone games and are very similar, but Nioh 2 imo is better.

Yes, nioh 2 has everything the first one has and even more, and you're not losing much in terms of story
This game did story telling in a great way too. Just slightly more direct than fromsoftware. Such a cool universe they’re building too
Liking DS2 and disliking i-frames is based, but I do disagree with your opinion on Nioh.
All Souls likes are janky? Yet all Soulsborne games are janky.
Hell yeah :') thanks for the comment and I'm glad you dig this game as much as I do!
at 4min i even forgot this was a video about Lies of P.
