I gotta say I really like that you include a lot of the facts that people told you in the comments on your last Nioh video. It's really good to see when a content creator acknowledges what their audience tells them, even if it's just history facts and how that match with the game. Plus another Nioh challenge run is always great to see. I hope to see you do more, even though I know that most challenge runs have an awful start to them with how Nioh is paced at the beginning. Seeing you try these runs in the dlc would be great, but at the same time, you can also do them in the sequel. Whatever comes next, Nioh or not, I'm sure it will be fun to watch. Also yes, sloth talismans are game-breakingly powerful. I didn't even have a magic build and I still used them with how great they are.
I really appreciate that people take the time to teach me about things I didn't know. I tend to love learning/random trivia. It feels like it'd be a disservice to not at least bring it up. I've gone back and forth about how I want to handle the DLC. I think I have a plan that'd make me happy to put together. I'm definitely a lot more excited to try tackling the sequel in the near future. I haven't gotten a good chance to try it yet, and I've heard really good things. Thank you though! I'm really glad that the runs are enjoyable to watch! Even with the absolutely broken Sloth Talisman. It became a main stay in my kit so quickly...

Hey, cool seeing the spirit summon for once! It shocked me how many players slept on that, given how bonkers the attack variety is depending on your spirits.
It's crazy to me just how much time and effort must have been spent on just them. It kind of sucks in a sense that the spirit that best supports using said spirit doesn't really do much for offense. I'd have to imagine that's not the case if you're using Living Weapons though. Can't say that I'm sure how they perform.

and to note, this is long after sloth and other spells were nerfed. originally sloth slowed them more and for much longer, practically making them immobile. i think confuse got nerfed to have a shorter duration as well. and i think a lot of spells including sloth had reduced spell amounts. and on the spirits, there is so much variety with them and they have so many effects. like Nobunaga’s peacock, when you summon the thing changes it’s elemental attack based on the direction you’re holding when summoning it (forward for fire, neutral for wind etc) and has different attacks based on the element. and due to it’s stats increasing elemental damage and status duration, the thing is an elemental builds best friend. too bad you get it super late in the game, but for higher difficulties if you enjoy confuse and using elemental debuffs it’s real solid.
I liked the use of sword tailsmen cuz it provided more variety but even if i was upset about it, I think the spider boss was enough punishment tbh (fuck that thing),
When you said Yay gambling you sounded like teamfourstars version of Krillin. Also did not expect a Labyrinth reference with the Magic Dance statement.
I can't say that I've watched Dragon Ball Abridged, but after seeing a clip, I can kinda hear it. You're never truly safe from a surprise Labyrinth reference though.
To answer your question starting at 22:00 the yokai you face is Japanese Myth is called the Gashadokuro (Translation literally being rattling skeleton). That monster in myth is said to only form through the resentful souls of those who died in a battlefield. Now the way it’s represented here in Nioh well it kinda makes sense the dude uses his own army as a sacrifice, since evil yokai in Japan are usually born out of hatred and regret. Now I think this only happens when like the bodies are unintended and not respected….and Kelly doing his unexplained alchemy I guess it just fastened the process with forcing life back into these men who probably wanted rest. Due to Kelly’s corrupting influence they all came back wrong, hateful, confused, and scared. I suppose with the collective calling of hatred the Gashadokuro was born since for the most part the ritual was faithful in how these bastard things are born. Edit:I hope I explained this well enough in truth I’m not exactly well versed in Japanese Myth. Just some person who likes the aesthetic and the basic history.
The spirit our British lad is searching for is more or less his best friend, mother, and only family he had until in a way he arrived to Japan as more or less Hanzo and who I actually think in historical canon is his wife as the real life lad married one of the shogun daughters and she is one of the shoguns daughters....my point being she is quite literally all that matters in his world it makes sense he'd do anything to get her back....oh yeah she also makes him immortal so keeping her safe is good for his health
Ok so fun fact, people can hurt yokai. We know this because hanzo can attack and hurt them and he CANT see spirits. Meaning he can attack these things and harm them, but just... doesn't. Infact the only real thing stopping regular people is probably the yokai realm. Because it just kinda kills regular people (its them summoning a small portion of the underworld, which kills regular people) and thats my best guess on why they are asking us to slay yokai. Because 1. we're really good at it, and 2. because they are really BAD at it. Seriously, if you watch regular guys fighting yokai they just lose 79% of the fights. Except against like dwellers and shit, but yeah its a bit of a story gap but it'd fit the character because he was being controlled by fucking CRYSTALS. Meaning those who the crystals controlled are unable to beat most yokai.
Big splash damage spells are pretty good on big targets, I've found when i went through the game recently, trying to do it mostly magic based myself. I was also cavorting about with not just magic as well though, and mostly had on early game gear cos it had great amrita gain. Would recommend you to do the DLCs that of the insight I've gained. Some bosses i had to truly embrace the block lockdiwn, some i used melee, and i enjoyed talisman of amrita gain for Living Weapon. You without such options should be quite interesting. Especially if you tackle a particular optional fight of DLC3 after the final boss, that necessitated LW odachi for me, be cool to see your tactics.
I've definitely considered giving it a shot. It's not something I wanted to do at the time, but I think it could be fun. I personally found the bigger AoE spells to be pretty inefficient in terms of damage to cost ratio. Their respective cast speeds and areas they affect are also pretty hit and miss. Literally.
It's certainly on my list to look into. Predictably, I feel like the start would be really rough. Especially for the first game, but I'm interested in seeing what it could shape up to be.
@@SpuddyCube I think one part that will probably be anooying is the limited ammo but with 2 different ranged weapons that might solve the issue somewhat.
Oh cool, a run I actually considered at one point. I know they're extremely strong, albeit limited, so this should be enjoyable. Edit: Just got to the Snow area...jeez already in pain this many times? Honestly...feel bad for ya.
Oh, absolutely. I have a run I need to finish first, but I'm really looking forward to getting to play the sequel. Also, thank you! I'm happy to hear it!
Well, I hate to bring bad news, but I can confirm that the next run I do won't be onmyo related... It's a run I absolutely want to try my hand at, but I think I'll be doing runs for the sequel in the same order as this one. I hope you like thrown pointy objects!
@@SpuddyCube Hey it was actually really fun, mostly because pleiades talisman + spirit stat = pretty much infinite super mode... but yeah... i pretty much lived off of the consumable talismans
Great video, I will try a similar build. It looks fun and I also love magic, perhaps I won't get my ass kicked as much with this. I get why for some people Shima is hard, for me he was a bit tricky but when i first started Onryoki kicked my ass so hard multiple times that i lost count. Another boss that was extremly hard for me and still is, is tachibana in the submission where you can fight him a second time. The only way how I defeat him is by running around that big rock on the left side and hitting him a few times after he attacked. Then the first time i fought Oda Nobunaga, well fighting him is too generous, I survived him is more accurate.
Personally I think Hannya (Ogress) is a pretty memorable and fun boss fight (if you're playing normally at least). Gets stupidly easy if you know what to do though (i.e. get behind her and use kusarigama's or dual's attack where you just swing non stop)
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! I've considered using dedicated ranged weapons, and I still might try it, but a large part of such a run would be breaking boxes for ammo. So many boxes...
@@SpuddyCube I recall there being an unlimited ammo % thingy like with Ninjitsu and Onmyo, but yeah, that's likely way too much rng. Best of luck on your future videos
There is, but there are limits to how high it can get, and I believe you can only restock with your storage outside of missions. Alternatively, box genocide. I think you can get away with it in most missions, at least. I'm only getting more curious about the whole thing.
Ayy nice Rise Against reference. Also Nioh one or two shotting you if you’re not perfectly prepared is so rage inducing. The whole games (beat both of them) feel like you either steamroll or get steamrolled (same reason I hated Persona5)
Spirit Builds are pretty busted, utilizing a combination of a few magic talismans and having your Spirits leveled up you can essentially "Godmode" the game by having a pretty much unlimited Living Weapon activations. It can trivialize the game but it feel oh so good to go through a whole level without losing your living weapon.
So on the note of how many people William condemned to a watery grave the answer is around 900 or so. As the ships he took looked like galleons to me which can hold around 50-400 people so assuming a middle ground of 225 that’s 900 if he lost 4 ships
I'm sure all of the families of the people he got killed would have their hearts warmed by the fact that he finally found his spirit friend that they can't see... Why even bring so many people with him? And I know it was based off of a real world event, and thus not entirely accurate in terms of motivations, but dang.
I'm glad to provide it! Just do be careful if you go back to the ninjutsu run. I wasn't thinking about it at the time, and I really should have included one there too.
@@SpuddyCube Thanks for the heads up! Honestly I have no idea why but among all insects and bugs I'm most okay with (though I would still avoid) spiders, while others are ONLY scared of spiders and not other bugs at all.
It's kind of funny in a sense. I'm really not personally bothered by most bugs. Spiders are absolutely the exception. Six legs or less? Fine. Eight legs? Horrible. Nine or more legs? Also fine. I suppose that is though trying to apply some level of logic to an illogical fear.
If you think the spells are slow in this game, just wait until you play Elden Ring. There are some SHOCKINGLY slow spells in that game. It’s like they were trying to preemptively nerf certain spells by making them cast incredibly slowly and not track enemy movement, but a lot of them are just plain ass even when they miraculously hit.
The reason the Ice level has butterfly is (once again) a historical reference. Lady No was Nobunaga's wife, who has now turned into a Yuki Onna (Snow Lady), here's the Snow. He birth name was Kicho, or Homecoming Butterfly. So here ya go, nobody asked for it, but I thought someone would care
I died like 60 times to shima sakon, because I forgot thrown weapons, ninjutsu and magic was a thing. Also he has one very annoying attack that is virtually quaranteed one-shot, if the first part of the attack connects.
I am about as non-arachnophobic as you can be. I love the fuzzy little weirdos in all of their forms. But even I got the heebie-jeebies off the Nioh spiders.
@@SpuddyCube Its the knees for me. Everything is too spindly, and then they've got those weird, bulbous, hairy knees. Makes them look like mannequins/puppets... which are just as creepy.
I really feel like the game needs an additional difficulty mode, designed with the damage end game builds can put out in mind. If you're into min maxing a build, then Nioh is really fun to go through that process in, problem is when you're done it totally breaks the game. Even without magic, 160+10 and full scaling just melts everything, magic just tips it over the edge and turns it into full dynasty warriors mode, I've banned the big offenders, carnage, weakness and sloth, enjoy it a lot more that way.
I think it gets into a weird sort of arms race. Most players won't engage with content just because, so the added difficulties are accompanied by stronger gear. Which in turn... More games do need sliders to customize how you want things tuned. Too hard for you? Tone it down. Want it to hurt? Just flip a switch.
It's a... terrifying prospect. But it also seems like it could be fun. It'd force me to finally get good at this game. I'd imagine I'll probably be making use of at least things like the armor bonus. I'm not even sure how well it can scale, so if absolutely nothing else, 'twould be interesting.
protip: if you do the very first onmyo dojo mission an optional second time, you will get the fast casting headpiece at the very start of the game, if you knew that, it wouldve probably saved you like 10 hours of playtime during this run xD
Some designs in these games are weird af like a wheel monk or snake with boobs, but most of them are at least pretty great and I personally really like Mitsunari's and moth guy's design and many many others
I see that The Hundred Eyes is a pushover here as well...like man when I saw him I expected to be beaten over and over like a child in bar fight considering the track record the rest of the bosses had on me...but no, he was pathethic.
I figured he'd at least have to be harder than the snake fight, and he was... But then I was in the middle of trying to execute a strategy to handle it, and he just... didn't need any special treatment. Pretty underwhelming boss, overall.
It is indeed confusion, we called discord because there were 0 in game references to what it was called back then until the abyss released shortly before DLC 3 in the abyss bosses can get buffs and you can see their name so we learned it was actually called confusion, similarly sloth is called topor by the game.

Only found the Ninjitsu video yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it and there's a magic video today?? Fuck yea, I'm in.
Good Content x
Geralt on vacation in Japan?
Great video, loved the editing, keep up the great work :)
"BE READY FOR THIS REVELATION" NGL i wasnt ready lol
Aw yeah been waiting for this video 😎💯
I liked the use of sword tailsmen cuz it provided more variety but even if i was upset about it, I think the spider boss was enough punishment tbh (fuck that thing),
I thought I'd get more used to it with time, but the spiders in both games still make my skin crawl and my heart pound.
@@SpuddyCube understandable, the ones in nioh 2 look even more realistic, but you already experienced that in the ninjutsu of nioh 2 challenge
Was not prepared for the Rise Against reference.
There's always a non zero chance for a Rise Against reference at any given moment. They'll get ya when you least suspect it.
Makes me want to pick nioh 2 up again. That was a fun magic playthrough
You should! I have relatively limited experience with the sequel, but it seems pretty good!
@@SpuddyCube it is *very* good. Especially the DLC's
Not my just playing the game for the first time 5 minutes ago and seeing this as my first yt video recommendation
UA-cam doing its thing to time things the best that it can.
Literally.
Man; I forgot how rough going magic builds were in the first game, especially early on.
Kinda just remember how broken it is later on lol
I would love to see you do a ranged only run since I haven't seen anyone do that for Nioh 1 or Nioh 2
It's certainly on my list to look into. Predictably, I feel like the start would be really rough. Especially for the first game, but I'm interested in seeing what it could shape up to be.
@@SpuddyCube I think one part that will probably be anooying is the limited ammo but with 2 different ranged weapons that might solve the issue somewhat.
great video, that was so much fun, kinda wanna play nioh now :D
You should! It's a really fun game! Just... build something less specific unless you're up for a hell of a grind.
Oh cool, a run I actually considered at one point. I know they're extremely strong, albeit limited, so this should be enjoyable.
Edit: Just got to the Snow area...jeez already in pain this many times? Honestly...feel bad for ya.
They got a lot better after I had more than just my spirit to use, but... the leadup to that was a pain on so many levels.
You ever thought of doing these challenges in Nioh 2? Love your videos!
Oh, absolutely. I have a run I need to finish first, but I'm really looking forward to getting to play the sequel. Also, thank you! I'm happy to hear it!
Was so happy to discover this. I have waiting so long for someone to do challenge runs for Nioh. Hopefully Onmyo only run for nioh 2 is up next
Well, I hate to bring bad news, but I can confirm that the next run I do won't be onmyo related... It's a run I absolutely want to try my hand at, but I think I'll be doing runs for the sequel in the same order as this one. I hope you like thrown pointy objects!
"most players would never even see"
-cries in spirit summon focused build
That's rough, buddy.
@@SpuddyCube Hey it was actually really fun, mostly because pleiades talisman + spirit stat = pretty much infinite super mode... but yeah... i pretty much lived off of the consumable talismans
Oh, yeah... Living weapons are a thing. I suppose using the full breadth of features that the game gives you might make things a tad more manageable.
was looking forward to this and it didnt dissapoint
Was that a Mystery Skulls reference? Dang. You don’t hear those very often. I gotta respect that.
It's sort of weird to not hear them pop up more often. I know they don't release music super often, but they've got some really good tracks.
Right? It’s a shame. Love the music.
Mystery Skulls reference, nice.
Super solid effort my dude
Personally I think Hannya (Ogress) is a pretty memorable and fun boss fight (if you're playing normally at least). Gets stupidly easy if you know what to do though (i.e. get behind her and use kusarigama's or dual's attack where you just swing non stop)
Awesome stuff! Love these.
Now about those Bows, Guns, and cannons.......
The Phineas and Ferb reference at the beginning was unexpected but welcomed
9.9/10 could have had more magic puns.
Can always stand to have more puns.
This gameplay is supported by SHADOW WIZARD MONEY GANG!!! We love casting spells.
Really REALLY appreciated the Centipede warning
19:03 that leg break!
Oh, that's beautiful. I didn't even notice it before. At least he hopefully couldn't feel it.
If you think the spells are slow in this game, just wait until you play Elden Ring. There are some SHOCKINGLY slow spells in that game.
It’s like they were trying to preemptively nerf certain spells by making them cast incredibly slowly and not track enemy movement, but a lot of them are just plain ass even when they miraculously hit.
not really
A fellow Mystery Skulls fan I see.
I knew I heard Rise Against there :D
The reason the Ice level has butterfly is (once again) a historical reference. Lady No was Nobunaga's wife, who has now turned into a Yuki Onna (Snow Lady), here's the Snow. He birth name was Kicho, or Homecoming Butterfly. So here ya go, nobody asked for it, but I thought someone would care
I died like 60 times to shima sakon, because I forgot thrown weapons, ninjutsu and magic was a thing. Also he has one very annoying attack that is virtually quaranteed one-shot, if the first part of the attack connects.
Really liked the run
U deserve a million subs not bluffing dudee
Maybe all your items are just the items you met along the way.
What you could try also is “can I beat the game while only leveling magic” or any other stat
Crackin' as usual!
23:16 I didn't get this cut scene...
really loving your content, how the hell is that sub number not 776 000k
"at the end of the day I want to enjoy what I'm doing" *looks at your borderlands runs* press X to doubt.
They're fun at least a fairly large portion of the time!
Never pressed subscribe button so fast 😂
You are a magician, William
I am about as non-arachnophobic as you can be. I love the fuzzy little weirdos in all of their forms. But even I got the heebie-jeebies off the Nioh spiders.
I don't know how they managed to make them so creepy! I'm both impressed and terrified.
Legitimately funny!
Unarmed run would be great to see glad your considering it 😂
It's a... terrifying prospect. But it also seems like it could be fun. It'd force me to finally get good at this game. I'd imagine I'll probably be making use of at least things like the armor bonus. I'm not even sure how well it can scale, so if absolutely nothing else, 'twould be interesting.
@@SpuddyCube its actually a viable option in both nioh games youll have a blast
I had no idea until today that nioh is actually bloodborne
Possibly the closest I'll ever get to having it on PC...
protip: if you do the very first onmyo dojo mission an optional second time, you will get the fast casting headpiece at the very start of the game, if you knew that, it wouldve probably saved you like 10 hours of playtime during this run xD
At the stage of Hino Enma you are able to get slow down talisman that trivializes the bossfight.
I could be mistaken, but I'm fairly sure you don't get access to the Sloth Talisman until after defeating the Umi Bōzu.
gandalf quote
The status you apply when you successfully proc two elements at once is actually called discord. At least that's what I've been told.
I was going off of what it's called on the wiki, but... the information on Fextralife isn't always the most reliable.
It is indeed confusion, we called discord because there were 0 in game references to what it was called back then until the abyss released shortly before DLC 3 in the abyss bosses can get buffs and you can see their name so we learned it was actually called confusion, similarly sloth is called topor by the game.
@@Zamusss that's a good enough explanation for me.
No you cant sadly you gotta hit YNO with a melee weapon! F in the chat
