    I have an '05. Same stupid design. I almost wanted to sell it once I found out you can't service the filter. And I hate that the inlet tube draws air in from the windshield. So I decided to remove everything and re-routed the MAF pipe directly to the throttle body and installed a cone filter. I'm much happier with it, and you get a cool intake suction that's pretty loud on start up. For any Focus owner of this year range, highly recommended as your first mod.

      @@nicehandsfeet11 it's a pretty simple procedure. Just remove the entire airbox assembly, it will have to be done through the fender well so you'll have to undo the fender liner to get enough clearance. There is a piece of tube that contains the MAF sensor, unscrew that and plug it directly to the throttle body housing. The fat end will fasten with no problem, just remember to unscrew the MAF sensor and turn it 180 degrees so the open end faces the air flow. From there install your cone filter. I went with a 3" inlet that I bought from eBay for around $20.

    Great idea! I would put that a bit higher where floods are common.

    I did the same thing except I just had a 3" filter laying around and I stretched it on. I may need to make a splash shield too. A problem I ran into was the transmission lines for automatic run right down there so only a very small filter will fit.

    Hey Joe, I'm not a mechanic. How hard would it be to take that airbox/filter out while leaving the rest? I heard you can pop it open with a paint scraper. I want to open mine and clean it.

      its pretty hard to do without damaging anything, better to just replace it. Ford doesnt want you to clean it so they did enough so you cant.

    did this actually stop the vibration on ur car? ive change the mounts on my 07 but still the same problem

    • @nick-sg7mv
      @nick-sg7mv 7 років тому +1

      you'll never get rid of it. its the design of the car. i have an 02 and had my mechanic do it. he told me that the new mounts would help (they did) but it would never go away entirely . it was almost silent for about 2 months, now its not silent but still not as bad as it was. dont worry about it. if you replaced them, just gotta live with it

      no

    • @dgxdetailingservicesltd8461

      No because he left the MAF in the same spot as stock so not changing much. I've seen guys that have relocated the MAF closer to the throttle body (leaving the filter higher up in the engine compartment) and it caused problems by moving the MAF. With the K&N you may just have to clean the MAF with MAF sensor cleaner a little more often, but that's easy enough to do and cheap. I did this to mine as well. Runs fine, no check engine light and sounds a little better with the induction noise, especially under load. I wasnt going to pay FSWERKS $200usd plus shipping and converting to Canadian (well over $300) for a metal tube, rubber coupler and a Green Filter. The Fswerks one may look a little better but does the same job, keeps the MAF in the exact same spot. The FSWERKS does put the filter into the bumper like where the stock one goes but this is easily achievable with another 90* elbow etc. I just did it the same as this guy and built a splash shield just the same.

      @@dgxdetailingservicesltd8461 ...i didn't have any problems with the maf closer to the throttle body and the new filter beside the inside of the fender. the car runs well and no lights.
