That's a great place to send it too. I thought about adding a small filter, but I don't know that it is necessary, maybe if we off roaded in dusty areas it would be a good idea.
I made them do that before taking my '18 for delivery...my '15 M70 (Christine) soaked the rear wheel with its stock vent... Jason sent me something very similar to test and that ended up in production a few years later. (go to Soviet Steeds to read about Christine. She is also on the most popular video on my channel for reasons I do not understand)
Yep, been around for a while, I like to take my time, plan, prepare, weigh all the options, discuss, and then spring into considering action before taking action. Sometimes I even go for a ride or two first.
On my bmw I ran it up to a good hiding place and put on a cheap gas line filter . After that I always run just a tiny bit more oil in the box and had no negative side affects and in my head that made it better for the gearbox.
When I put the vent pipe on the FD of Svetlana I put a small in-line fuel filter in the end of the hose to keep the dust and creepy crawlies out. Still breathes quite freely.
Very nice simple elegant solution using a banjo bolt. I used the Heindl solution with the ATV boot on my 2011' which worked great, but thinking I will use your banjo design on my 2020' CT
@@GoneUraling would you mind posting the Amazon link for the banjo bolt and fitting you used? The only ones I have found call out an M8 x 1.0 and an M8 x 1.2 mm thread? These could be a translation issue and are really M8 x 1.25 thread but I am not sure?

I originally had the 3 gallon Rotopax, still have them and might use them again if we ever get a chance to take our Alaska trip. However, if I had it to do over again I would go with these, 1.7 gallon Rotopax you see in the video (ours hold a little over 1.8 gallons each now after some use as they tend to stretch a bit over time). Plenty for extra fuel and the slightly smaller size makes them easier to handle and transfer gas. My wife especially appreciates the roughly 8 less lbs when lifting it. The new vent is working great, I highly recommend the mod.
@@GoneUraling Having ridden to Alaska 3 times. Once by sidecar, use the larger Rotopax when you do your Alaska trip. Only need it through northern BC and Yukon, but, uh, that is exactly where you do NOT want to run out of gas... They have improved the road so much, cars only take a few days to make the trip, not the week + it used to take, so a lot of the smaller gas stations and lodges have closed up shop, no business...but close to the same distance...
@JamesAllmond Good to know. I also have the option of taking both, so I'd have an extra 4.7 gallons on each rig if I do. Figuring out pusher tires is the real question. From what I can figure out I'll probably need a new tire before I get to Fairbanks from here (spare swap) but then I'm going to need two new tires at some point.
Rotopax……grrrrrr….. my new gourmet painted 21 CT paint was ruined by a Rotopax tank. I suggest several rubber pads (closed cell foam) on the tank to protect the paint. Very disappointed, but now I have painted the car bottom, inside floor and the area where the Rotopax tank rides with tinted bed liner. I appreciate your videos, BTW!
@@jayknight850 I use rubber strips that have tape on them applied to the sidecar, one above one below and they are about 3/4" thick when not compressed. I put the can on, tighten it down and the rubber strip protects the pain and keeps the can from rattling or moving around.
I fixed my 2019 Gear Up by removing the vent, plugging the hole with a set screw and using a vented dipstick from Ural. Put over 3,000 miles on it and no leaks.
Had those on our previous two rigs, they still leaked so I didn't even consider them. What we have is working perfect. So long as it works is all that matters.
Really liked your opening and commentary throughout. Well done!
Thanks, trying to do better and be entertaining!
Great job. I did that to mine last year and terminated it into a tiny filter mounted behind the battery on my GearUp.

Now that a few people have mentioned that, might be a good idea, I had not though about creepy crawlers.

(Q) What is worse than a _leaky rear end?_
(A) A _troublesome shaft drive._ 😉

It is a known fact, the older something is, the more it leaks.
