    I have a 2019 Gear Up, the best I have got so far was 46mpg on a tank during a road trip. I put the GPR 2 into 1 exhaust on a few months ago, noticed a difference with throttle response and accelaration, love my Ural.

      You should check out the Throttle Tamer throttle tube... just installed one on each rig, makes a noticeable and pleasant difference. There will be a video before too long about them.

      I would suspect that on the 2017,18 year models that by the time a mechanic did 2 or 3 of these, they could lay everything out in prep and do a complete upgrade in 4 hours with maybe an extra hour for cleaning up, test ride, balance etc... I would bet that a mechanic with a competent helper who could R&R the sidecar, seat tank etc... could (in assembly line fashion) upgrade 4 rigs in an 8 hour day. Of course, that presupposes there would be a demand for such service.

    Definitely a great video.

    Yes, it is worth the upgrade. I wish it could be done to my Retro. (no Robert, we are not gonna swap everything from the Gear up to the Retro, but it is a thought.)
    Whoever has my old M70, that would be the nicest thing you could do for yourself and the bike.

      We could always tear your Retro down and do SOMETHING to it :-)

    An easier method for putting that cable through the Gromit. You can disconnect the cable at the throttle cable splitter. And then it route it up from the bottom after you’ve already got the grommet in place. It’s really quite easy I’ve had to do it on a couple of machines

    really enjoy your thoroughness Robert... great job all around. I will be selling my 2016 cT this spring but will pass these vids on to the new owners.. they are currently getting their licensing as they are from South Africa. Sale will happen in the spring.. sad to see her go but my fly fishing and RVing is taking up most of my time now... Its not fair to the Ural.. time for others to enjoy her. Cheers

      Sorry to hear you are moving on from the Ural, but I completely understand. Feel free to come back when you realize the mistake you have made and get jealous of seeing all of us riding around! :-) Yep, be sure to warn... err... tell the new owners about us. Maybe we'll see you at a campsite or fishing spot one day.

Its nice to know options are always open. I will continue to drop in and check on you guys. I do hope to end up south one of these days to travel some of the fishy states your wonderful country has. That's odd, get it back in under warranty at a GOOD dealer and tell them to check the rear bearing and carrier. If that bearing is bad or spun in the carrier, you'll never get the rear main seal to STAY sealed.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  Рік тому +1

      Just noticed this was a question, sorry for not answering sooner. Yes, mpg went up about 4 mpg over all. There was no impact to speed, but it does accelerate much smoother and there is no "hunting" for idle or sudden changes in power while riding.

    Is the instructions clearer in the owners/workshop manual? Or is it on the same level? Going to help a friend do this conversion this spring, he doesn't have any manuals except the one that came with the kit. I love references litteratur for my machines but I hate the style of manuals that usually comes with a car.

    Great video! I used this when installing on my 2016 gear up sportsman. Did you have any engine lights on when you finished? I have a P0107 that can't be cleared. The code means Pressure sensor open or short to GND. Ural hasn't been able to give much insight other than to keep riding.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  Рік тому +1

      Glad it was helpful! I did not have any codes. Be sure to check sovietsteeds.com and ask questions there if you have not already. I don't know where the barometric sensor is located, but it should have one so it can adjust the mixture for altitude changes.

    Great video series. I have the gen 1 efi and I am generally happy with it except for the "light throttle" stumble. What was your main motivation for going with the gen 2?

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  Рік тому

      My rig was "surggy" and stumbled. Worst part was, I'd lightly start to turn the throttle and it would randomly SURGE then lag then SURGE again until is settled. The cT (in this video) is my wife's and she constantly stalled when starting off, complained a little about stumbling but it ran mostly OK. I raised the idle up, it would still stall on starts. So, thinking it was her we swapped and I rode it... stalled it 3 times myself. NONE of this is a problem with the new EFI.

    What’s great upgrade, and just a fantastic job of detailing the procedure.. was there any need to calibrate any of the sensors, flow rates, etc? I only ask as I have done two FI upgrades to carb vehicles and the calibration was a steep learning curve.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  3 роки тому

      This kit comes fully programmed and set up for the Ural engine, so everything worked perfectly without adjustment. I did balance the throttle bodies by sight/feel first and later by vacuum, but that is all I've had to do.

    When you were disassembling the wiring you came across a plug that wasn’t attached. Do you know what this was? I installed a GPS today and removed seat and loosened tank and I came across same unplugged plug and was wondering what it is for. I never did plug it into anything and bike runs fine.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  3 роки тому

      See my reply under your other comment about extra plugs. If you have a 2019+ that same extra plug as on the new Keihin is likely there.

  • @stupollock6851
    @stupollock6851 3 роки тому +1

    Perhaps a plug on newer units if sidecar needs to be installed on the left?

    • @stupollock6851
      @stupollock6851 3 роки тому +1

      Oh - I bet a plug to blinkers that are only installed on Canadian models. I have blinkers for right and left side and the ones on left of bike not connected.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  3 роки тому +2

      On mine... I don't recall an empty plug on the original harness. Not saying there wasn't one, just saying I don't recall one. Both side rear blinker lights are actually included in the main harness and can be wired after the fact if needed. That's how I picked up both turn signals for my trailer connector. It COULD be extra EPA stuff only used in California or for testing (which is the extra plug on the new harness).

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  3 роки тому

      It is an upgrade for 2014 to 2018 EFI Urals. I would not think it would be practical to try and install it on anything older than 2014, but I supposed with enough cash and determination it could be done.

    I don't care for fuel injection it is a ridiculous expense to pass stupid pollution controls because of the sins of cars my 650 is 25 years old and it has Mikuni carburetors on it and the bike runs great the carbs are the only Japanese part on the bike and all the other Soviet parts are working great why carbureted Euro Run as cool as my carbureted BMW all of the fuel-injected air-cooled bikes cook their Pistons because they are so lean I seen some pistons in engines that look like somebody took a blowtorch to them I wish instead of useless items like disc brakes and stainless steel pipe and fancy Italian and German shocks and Italian Wheels they would have done something better like putting a 5-speed in the transmission that would relieve so much stress on the engine y99 is the first year with the electric starter and I would use the kickstarter if I could put all of my weight on my left leg while I was kicking with my right my bike starts first kick I love it when the Harley boys watch me kick started because that's how you start a real motorcycle had the starter rebuilt for 150 bucks at the local starter shop if I had a fuel injected Ural and fuel injection did not work I will check into converting it back to carburetor I love how on my bike everything is easy to service likes a drum brakes the carburetors simple things make it so easy to work on a motorcycle and with less chances to screw things up I have been riding for over 50 years and I learned how to rent on my own stuff from riding my British bikes it gives you such a connection when you work on your own bike such a sense of satisfaction that you cannot get from taking it to a mechanic of course you have to realize your limitations you don't want to take out a job that's beyond you where you could possibly cause very expensive damage we're in that case it would have been cheaper to take it to the dealer I have an excellent dealer I've always gotten parts from him and they're always the correct part I've learned to rely on his judgment and his knowledge and it seems like only the old guys who are dealers for 30-40 years who know what they're doing when they tell you these are the parts you need these are the correct part and you will have no problem installing them and everything goes according to plan and you fire your bike back up and it runs and it puts the biggest smile on your face it's really does
