All five can add percussion and also sing. The beatboxer Adam Rupp will sing harmony when drums are not needed. There were two doing the percussion in this song, Adam Rupp, tenor, with drums and harmonica sounds and Adam Chance bass-baritone, providing the jaw harp sounds. The two tenors are Austin and Rob. The bass is Tim Foust. For your next song, Don McLean asked Home Free to cover American Pie for the 50th anniversary. All four leads take a verse along with Don joining them.
The beatboxer Adam Rupp did everything with his voice. They have a new video cover of Garth Brooks, "Ain't Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up" on Facebook. It clearly shows Adam's harmonica talents.
Yes I would agree! Please have at least 8 of their songs in before you listen to mayday! This is important! You need to know how each member can sing their vocals.
You mentioned Pentatonix - these two A Cappella groups could be head butt competitors, but instead the groups are friends, and encourage one another's success.
Home Free are masters of ANY genre that they cover (as well as many originals) NEVER a boring moment.. There is no single lead vocalist, they "front" whichever member is best for the song.
That's why I've always preferred Home Free and VoicePlay to Pentatonix. Pentatonix, respect to them, are more one-trick ponies. They're great at what they do, just not a whole lot of variation.
You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. Keep up your journey through Home Free. You will not find a bad song. Home Free are not about theatrics, it's about showcasing the song.
The only thing I'll add is I think they can all beatbox to some degree, but Adam Rupp is the main guy for that. And check out there butt mix very good and lots of fun.
Girl this is a great rabbit hole you really need to explore Home Free has been around for 21 years and can sing any genera of music and yes they are true a capella no back ground instruments and they can all sing and take lead to fit the song they're doing. And welcome to the Home Free family if you decide to take the leap. Great reaction
Home Free is a five member group with a soul crushing bassist and two other bassists. A buttery smooth baritone. Five tenors including a soulful sweet tenor and an amazing high tenor. Five beat boxers and one freak of nature vocal percussionist. When the incorporate instruments they are front and center. The rest of the time they rely on their vocal percussionist. He will use a looper in concert and this video is layered.
Home Free is one of the best out there right now. They have done so well staying connected with their fans threw their videos even during lockdown. They work as a group, but also collaborate with others individually and solo. Tim Foust the bassist was inducted into the gulf coast country music hall of Fame a few years back. Their video archives are deeper that just about anyone out there right now. They have done American Pie with Don MacLean, they did God bless the USA with Lee Greenwood, they worked with Kenny Rogers doing Children go where I send thee, they did Christmas in Dixie with Alabama, Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boy's. They won season four of the sing off, the year after Pentatonix won. You have a very deep deep hole to go down with them that will blow your mind.
On "The Sing-Off" they beat out Voiceplay, which is also a great a capella group. Voiceplay did a cover of "Just Sing" with MANY other a capella artists, including Tim Foust. If you ever check that one out, be sure to turn on the captions. They included information about who everyone is, as well as some rather snarky remarks.
Home Free is the best--period. They are completely acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds themselves unless you see an instrument front and center (usually happens when they collaborate with other artists). Chance doing the jaw harp sound really sets the stage for this song's story. Tim's bass line completely grounds the harmonies and Adam's voice percussion simply cannot be beat. This performance highlights a lot of Home Free's strengths although they also handle just about any other genre amazingly!! My personal favorites are a cross-section of all the different genres they sing spectacularly: - How Great Thou Art (a classic hymn) - Try Everything (for the "small fries" but has a great message for all of us) - Helplessly Hoping (a harmony masterpiece) - Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys (our guys just having fun) - Undivided (a HF original with a great message) - Mary Did You Know (a Christmas classic) - Quarantine (HF humor that helped us get through the COVID pandemic) - Timeless (a bit of nostalgia) - Spaceship (a touching tribute to family--Rob's in particular) - Hunter Hayes Melody (a fabulous compilation) You just really can't go wrong with any of Home Free's music❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
@@joelbolden8457 Also they have violins in their first rendition of Silent Night (Taylor Davis) and in The Devil Went Down to Georgia (Taylor Davis and Charlie Daniels) (no music video for that one).
The lead singer on this one, Austin, kept popping up with only one accompanist on my feed at the beginning of Covid, thought he was singing in his parents' living room, had no idea of the existence of Home Free. Then he popped up singing "My Maria" with Tim Foust in somebody's back yard. Tim's tenor/falsetto was amazingly clean and spot on. When the two started talking at the end of the video, I had to do a double take when I heard the timber of Tim's speaking voice. That was my introduction to Home Free and how I fell into the Home Free rabbit hole. So many great songs, crossing many genres. So jump down the rabbit hole and don't miss Adam Rupp's drum solos and as a woman, I also highly recommend the videos of other reactors typically entitled "Timgasms" - a very entertaining guilty pleasure.😉
The amazing thing is that they are just as good live. Awesome group of brilliantly talented musicians, I would strongly recommend you check out more of their work.
I'm not a fan of country, either, but this is my favorite group and I listen to them every day now. They didn't start out as country; they took that route as part of being on and eventually winning a singing show on TV. They do other genres, too, also they do serious songs and some very funny songs. And what you hear...it's all them, all the time.
Home free was touted as a "Country Acapella band for the 2014 tv show The Sing off, They can actually do any and all genres of music. No instruments but they are all talented with musical instruments as well. I went to a live show in early March and it was as amazing as their videos.
VERY SURPRISING SOMEONE WHO SAYS SHE's A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN AND LIVES IN AMERICA LIKE ANASTASIA NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE. IT WAS MADE FAMOUS IN THE MOVIE 'OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?' FROM THE YEAR 2000.
No instruments other than themselves. These guys are the real deal and can sing anything (thus far) as well as their own songs. When they choose a song they will all decide who’s voice would be best..sometimes several voices as lead but all contribute to the music. They are really nice and humble guys that seem to really enjoy making music together.
This group is all them no instruments. All of them can sing even the beatboxer. They do all kinds of music if you look at their UA-cam channel. Enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.
If you think Tim Foust (the bass) gives off medieval prince vibes, you'll definitely like seeing him in "Misty Mountains" with Peter Hollens. He's definitely channeling Aragorn with that look.
Home Free is amazing, they are the best--period. They are 100% acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds with their voices/mouths - You should really listen to their songs “When a Man Loves a Woman,” “Brothers in Arms,” “Mayday,” “One Man Band” “Butts Remix,” “Hillbilly Bone,” and “Elvira” for some real fun! Thanks for the reaction video, as a Home Fry myself I am always glad to see someone finding them for the first time!
Home Free is an awesome rabbit hole to explore. Not sure if Man of Constant Sorrow was the best place for you personally to start that journey, but it is where many start it. While considered a 'Country Acapella' group ... their covers and originals cover a large spectrum.
They do everything! This is an old song from the 1920’s. Sometimes they switch roles- but the beat boxer only sings sometimes. They all sing lead at different times, even the bass
Home Free is all a cappella. Two or maybe 3 songs have an instrument. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer is so good you don’t miss the music. They can all beatbox to a degree and they all take the lead depending on the song. They are country but sing all genres. They were on the NBC show the Sing Off in 2013 and won the season after Pentatonix won. The groups are friends. Tim Foust, the bass, has a 5 octave range and can sing tenor too. They also write and sing their own songs. Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, One Man Band to hear incredible harmonies. Good reaction
Home Free & Voice Play are both awesome acapella groups who mix it up & don't become boring. Voice Play is a bit more theatrical but both use all their singers and often feature their bass singers Tim Foust (HF) & Geoff Castalucci(VP) as soloists which is amazing. Home Free has the most brilliant singers with skill & styles across many genres, fantastic harmonies & seamless arrangements. Any song is good to react to. Everybody walking this Land for Tim's bass, When a Man Loves a Woman for Austin's tenor, Cover me up for Chance's wonderfully smooth voice & End of the Road for Rob's blues & soul. Do you hear what I hear for arrangement, Helplessly Hoping for harmonies & Adam (beatboxer) sings too. All about that Bass & Butts Remix & Workin for a Living show their silly side. Great reaction💕
All of them can sing all kinds of different roles and Adam, is the percussionist and is one of the best! No instruments ever ever and they sing all different genres
Home Free does not use instruments, it's an all-vocal band, these guys are amazing. I will be going to their concert in Manitowoc WI. on Memorial weekend. They sing other than country songs.
The great thing about HF is that 4 members can beat box, l sw a video where they split into 2 teams and beat box battle each other. That and the vocal versatility in this group is insane.
Just search for Home Free and randomly pick a song. You won't find one that isn't amazing! When they sing (live or recorded) you can feel the joy of the craft front and center. Every time they put out a new video I find a new favorite. I now have well over a hundred favorite songs and they are all by Home Free!
They are acapella about 99% of the time. Their cover of Born in the USA, the Bruce Springteen classic, Chance plays the guitar & sings the lead in the whole song. Check out their covers of One-Man Band, American Pie, and Amazed, and their originals DIVE BAR Saints, Dreamer - live at the Ryman theater
They also covered "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" with Charlie Daniels, and that one included some fiddle. After all, you can't really do that song without a fiddle. 😉
Great reaction, Anastasia. Others have answered your questions, but yes, they are entirely acappella - no instruments, but for Adam Rupp (the vocal percussionist). They all can beatbox to some extent, and the beatboxer can sing tenor, too. Welcome to this lovely rabbit hole. You will become a home fry very quickly.
This is one amazing group. They cover many genres and kill them all. I recommend their cover of Boyz to Men's End of the Road, Patsy Cline's Crazy, and (hold on to your seat!) Percy Sledge's When a Man Loves a Woman. Get a couple of songs under your belt before you hear their take on Cam's Mayday. Once you get to know their talents, it'll blow you away. For a bit of joy I recommend All About That Base, Sea Shanty Medley, and of course Rick Ashton's Never Gonna Give You Up. Love your reactions and your music. Hope to hear more!
Each of them can and have taken lead in a song. They're a phenomenal group. The bass is my favorite just because when he sings, I can feel that vibration in my own chest. The beat boxer is one of the best I've ever heard. He can replicate any sound.
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole! Enjoyed your reaction, and eagerly anticipated your reaction to Tim Faust’s bass solo 😏🤣. They all can sing and choose the lead based on who they think does it best. No egos with any of these guys. And 100% a cappella. From left to right: front row left - Rob Lundquist, “the beard,” tenor with a beautiful smoothness. To showcase his voice - End of the Road, and Bless the Broken Road are two of my favorites. He also has a solo in How Great Thou Art, which should definitely be watched, as it showcases their incredible harmonies. It is truly one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Back left, newest member Adam Chance, “Chance,” baritone/bass, who took over for co-founder Chris Rupp, who left amicably. You’ll see Rupp in older videos like Ring of Fire (with Avi Kaplan), Do You Hear What I Hear, and Butts Medley (another must-see for comedic value alone!). To see Chance shine, Helplessly Hoping, Winter Song, One Man Band, and Brothers in Arms (a spectacular take on an iconic song). Middle front, the amazing Austin Brown, high tenor. I highly recommend watching When a Man Loves a Woman. He nails it in a jaw dropping performance. Back right, the spectacular co-founder and “freak of nature” Adam Rupp (Chris Rupp’s brother), vocal percussionist/beatboxer. There are several videos of him doing a “drum solo” and all are excellent. To see his talent at arranging music, Do You Hear What I Hear, which coincidentally (in my opinion) showcases all of their individual talents while leaving you amazed at their harmonies. Last, and certainly not least, front right, Tim Faust, part dragon, basso profundo with a 5+ octave range. He is featured in Ring of Fire, Brothers in Arms, Mary Did You Know, Champagne Taste (which he wrote), Hillbilly Bone and so many others. I also recommend his collaboration with Peter Hollands on Misty Mountains (from The Hobbit). Please hold off from watching Mayday until you’re familiar with the guys and what they do.😉 You really can’t go wrong with any of their songs. They do all genres and put their own spin on them, often with some kind of humor in every video. I love watching reactors discover Home Free, and yours was a fun one. It’s almost as good as discovering them all over again. I was hooked after my first video, the one you just did. If you react to Home Free, their fans, Home Fries (which I definitely am), will come. Welcome to the party. It’s a deep rabbit hole, but you’ll never want to escape.
They don't use instruments at all... They are just awesome...let me give you the sequence... Ring of fire, end of the road, helpless hoping, folsom prison, butts remix, champagne taste... And then you react to mayday...all home free covers...when you get to mayday your mind is going to blow...
I am so proud of you growing and doing something totally outside your norm. This was very creative and I really liked it. Great reaction as usual kiddo. Next time we go live I have over 200 songs on my luna list now.
So glad you discovered this amazing group of men. Don't stop here. They have done everything from country to the Righteous Brothers! All of them can sing! Austin Brown our main vocalist in this video is their high tenor. Rob (big guy with glasses) is also a tenor. Adam Rupp, the beat boxer, can do sounds I've never heard another human voice manage. His live "drum solo" video on UA-cam is a must watch. Adam Chance, in the brown vest, does low tenor to bass. And last but not least, Tim Foust, the king of bass, has a five octave range! He astounds everyone that hears him. Tim has blown speakers and shaken cameras with his low notes. One thing I've learned from over four years of listening to Home Free is always expect the unexpected. Home Free is entirely acapella everything you hear is done with the human voice!
@@MichaelMollard I’ve listened to a lot of different reactions to this song, and only one person, I think she was a vocal coach, noticed that, and she was floored. Now I hear it every time.
Adam Rupp is A Two Time Beatbox Champion. He's awesome. Tim Foust has a 5 octave range. They are an amazing group. Check out their version of Do You Hear What I Hear. Also Ring of Fire! They are all phenomenal!!
They are purely an A Capella vocal band, although certain specific songs they have used a guitar when they covered Springsteen's Born In The USA. They do use a looper to create depth to their background sounds particularly when the do live performances. HF and PTX are the two most popular and successful A Capella groups out there. Although they lean country, they also do pop, folk, R&B, and rock ballads as well. They recently did a cover of Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms, which is considered an A Capella masterpiece, that even surpassed their previous gold standard cover of Crosby, Stills, and Nash's, Helplessly Hoping. As they approach 200 videos in their catalog of work, every single performance is top notch. Their greatness is unmatched in what they do. Welcome to the world of Home Free. They will take you on a journey that you will thoroughly enjoy.
Home Free, like Pentatonix, got a boost from winning a season of The Sing Off (PTX season 3, Home Free season 4). The Sing Off seemed to lay the foundation for acapella groups composed of soloists singing in a group. More groups than PTX and HF got boosts from appearing there: Groove for Thought, Street Corner Symphony, Committed (season 2 winners), Traces of Blue. All followed this pattern. Some have disbanded, but leave behind great music.
Awesome reaction! Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. You will be a Home Fry in no time. I love it when people discover Home Free. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Robb Lundquist (beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone. For some serious ones: How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful.
Love your reactions! You know your stuff. Glad to see you reacting to these guys. They are awesome. Suggest these HomeFree performances next: Crosby Stills Young cover-Helplessly Hoping; When A Man Loves A Woman cover. No Instruments zero all them. The members rotate who takes the lead depending on the particular song. Looking fwd to more. Hugs.
This is my favorite group. Just keep listening to these guys, and I'm sure you will change mind. Buy the way if you get hooked, you will be called home fries. Thank you.
This song was made popular by the 2000 movie, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" This hilarious movie is set in 1930s Mississippi and includes in its cast George Clooney, John Goodman, John Turturro, and Charles Durning. The soundtrack won five Grammy awards, and the single, "Man of Constant Sorrow," won a Country Music Award single of the year. The beat boxer in Home Free, Adam Rupp, is a two time world champion beat boxer and a one man drum kit.
No instruments, all voice. They cover everything from this old old song featured in the movie 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou', to Boys2men. For individual talents, Adam Rupp on ' home free drum solo' . also Austin doing 'When A Man Loves A Woman, etc. Mayday cover is awesome as well.. Tim, the bass Profundo, actually has a 5 active range to a tenors like headvoice. All are top level singers and the 5 together will make anything they do magical. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Super fans are called Home-Fries, btw!
All the sounds in this video are produced by voice and hands (shaping the not-a-harmonica sounds); no instruments. During the shoot in Georgia, USA, it started raining and they moved under the roof of a nearby building for the later scenes, such as when Tim, the basso profundo, was singing the third verse or when Chance was singing the chorus looking out into the rain. He was throat-singing the jaw harp for most of the song. While they are predominately Country, they also sing lots of genres, including Hip Hop (End of the Road), Gospel (Go Tell It on the Mountain), Folk (American Pie, w/Don McLean!), Rock (Elvira, w/The Oakridge Boys!), etc. They can cover lots of different styles, all excellently.
Great to see when people check out genres they may not usually listen to, or even have heard before 👍😎 The song is more "Delta Blues" than country, but it's a great introduction to these chaps.
Need to dive deeper. They are mostly country but do a wide variety of styles. Not a bad Home Free video out there on any platform. They are the best in my opinion.
They sing all kinds of music. They do a cover of BoyzIIMen End of The Road, When A Man Loves a Woman and so many more. Love your reaction. Welcome to the rabbit hole of Home Free.
The accent isn't always that pronounced either. Austin emphasized his Georgia accent for this old bluegrass song. I've only seen them use an instrument in one song. Other than that it's all vocal. They decide who sings lead depending on who they think sounds better on each song. Try their cover of End Of The Road by Boyz 2 Men. Their Sea Shanty Medley is awesome as well.
That was Born in the USA and as good as Chance is, it's one of the few I'd say the original was better. There was another for Christmas where the band they sang with had instruments.
No instruments, just vocals. They use a loop for this song for the jaw harp sound and some of the percussion while the beatboxer is playing the nomonica. Before Covid shut things down, they were performing about 250 shows per year. They have just started touring again. You may want to check out "Brothers in Arms", "19 You and Me", and "The Butts Remix" to catch a little variety.
No instruments and they have four vocalists that can sing lead. Great reaction!
Also, unless the genre they are singing calls for the country twang, it will almost disappear entirely from their voices.

No intruments at all. They do all of the sounds. LOVE THEM!
Welcome to Home Free. Once becoming a "Home Fry" there's no turning back. They have a great catalog, dig deep...
Pure a cappella. No instruments. One of the best beat boxers and basses in the business. Ridiculously good.

- Timeless (a bit of nostalgia)
- Spaceship (a touching tribute to family--Rob's in particular)
- Hunter Hayes Melody (a fabulous compilation)

They do everything! This is an old song from the 1920’s. Sometimes they switch roles- but the beat boxer only sings sometimes. They all sing lead at different times, even the bass
Voiceplay is another a cappella group. I love them, they don't use instruments.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! 😁 Anything Home Free does is awesome! #homefries
These guys are so TALENTED!!
You are amazing, open to all types of music.
Anastasia, a Slavic name, but from a Spanish origin. What a treasure.
More Home Free please, they are all incredibly talented.❤️
All voice, this is a big rabbit hole! Welcome to being a home frie!
Home Free is one of the best. Another I like is Voice Play. You might look into them if you find you are enjoying Home Free.
there is so much ahead of you to enjoy...you're just getting started. you will get hooked like all of the rest of us.
Loved your react look forward to checking out your music. Gorgeous smile when Tim was singing.
@@steveray9655 Seriously? I can't believe I've missed that one! Nice tip!
They also did Silent Night with violinist Taylor Davis.
@@jacilivengood9653 yep there are two versions of that !
I bet that was a big surprise when Tim Foust kicked in with his bass!
Now you need to watch the Frog Leap Studios metal cover.
In concerts they do use a looper. But that was about the only instrument they use.
Each of them can and have taken lead in a song. They're a phenomenal group. The bass is my favorite just because when he sings, I can feel that vibration in my own chest. The beat boxer is one of the best I've ever heard. He can replicate any sound.
They have been around for 20 yrs so you have a lot of great songs to listen too :-)
i am no country fan, or accapella fan either. but i do love Home Free. so many good songs, different music styles too.
Welcome to Home Free!!! They do other genres as well as country, try their cover of Dire Straits song "Brothers in Arms"
They all share lead duties these guys are magical
MY wife and I saw them in concert a few month ago and the only thing on stage with them was a table with some loopers on it for some layering.
This! 👆
I always like to add 'Can't Stop the Feeling', just to showcase their fun side and ability to make any genre of song their own..
Don't forget to add "How Great Thou Art" for Adam Rupp's vocal solo. Not to mention the scenery.
I am so proud of you growing and doing something totally outside your norm. This was very creative and I really liked it. Great reaction as usual kiddo. Next time we go live I have over 200 songs on my luna list now.
home free, voice play are - to me- the top of acapella groups right now.
LOVE first reactions to them! They are perfection!!
Another reactor pointed out that when Tim comes out of his bass solo, he actually drops even lower to start the harmony slide.
I love waiting to see who picks up the octave drop bass line after '.. In his grave.. ' 😁🎤
Helplessly Hoping, End of the Road, American Pie, Brothers in Arms, How Great Thou Art are great choices.
Loved the reaction thank you for this reaction video…
They do not use instruments. You are beautiful. It always amazes me when I see a woman reaction to deep voice.
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole! Buckle up for the ride! They are NEVER boring!
this song was used in the movie "O brother where art thou" it starred george clooney and it was brilliant
EASY ON THE EYE S, WITH A GREAT SMILE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS MUSIC
You have a GREAT voice. I'm gonna start listening.
'Ring of Fire' has some really low Bass,, and a fire. Old John Cash song done by HF. Thanks
alligator, not a crocodile. all voice, no instruments, Rupp has won numerous awards for his beat boxing. He is, flat out, incredible
Every sound you hear is coming from their voices.
They're good..They do it all
Awesome reaction!
A huge rabbit hole with these guys. But the trifecta of a capella is Home Free, PTX and Voice Play ( the theater kids of a capella).
Thank you.
Home Free is fabulous, so is Voiceplay.
Love my home free 🍟❣️💯🔥
No instruments used by them. They are the most under rated group of all time.
Great to see when people check out genres they may not usually listen to, or even have heard before 👍😎
The song is more "Delta Blues" than country, but it's a great introduction to these chaps.
Not to mention Adam Rupp is a 2 time world champion beat boxer... All of them are extremely talented... I love this band...
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Home Free’s version of “When a Man Loves a Woman” will leave you speechless. 🌺✌️
END OF THE ROAD by them is an awesome cover.
@@ryanellsworth7246 I also forgot about the ones they did with Texas Hill as well.
@@toodlescae Only the Texas Hill guy's use's instruments in the collabs . Home Free stuck to no instruments! Great collabs with Texas Hill.
