I’m here for an opera album from Rob! I already love him for his vocal ability with HF, but this is just soul wrenching! I lost count as to how many times I played the video, just to hear Rob!
Rob did vocal performance in college, and has operatic training. But he hasn’t sung opera in 15 years. Austin majored in musical theater. He did have some opera training, but not very much. This piece was Austin’s brainchild, and the guys were very nervous about releasing it. This is a true treat, as is your reaction!
@@LadyDragonsblood thankfully mine wasn’t a screamer. But he had the look, he would have disappointed in his voice explaining how I messed up and then encouragement when he explained the right way.
@@jakesbel8237 Yes, Mr. Thomas was the same way... I didn't mean literal yelling.... I meant I could still here him in my mind.... I didn't phrase it well... I am old now LOL
The difference, the issue, is that generally opera singers have it really bad getting off their specific vocal training when they try to sing other non opera music genres
I went to music school with Rob in college at the University of Minnesota - Duluth. He was always amazing at any genre. We had a vocal jazz group that would do a concert every year with popular music and he was always the best. We performed operas together in college. Classy guy too. When I was a freshman he made me feel welcome and comfortable.
I absolutely LOVED your reaction & analysis & for not judging too harshly! Rob hasn't sung opera for 15 years & Austin is trained in Musical Theater. I think there might be a few professional singers who've trained & sung opera their entire lives who'd be a bit jealous that two guys who normally sing every genre EXCEPT opera, just decided to do this difficult piece & did it so beautifully! I've been waiting for your reaction to this since it came out so I'm glad you got to it! It's made me teary eyed every time! Two of our "goofballs" being all grown up! 🤗&😘from SE Tennessee!😊
No words really. This might be my favorite reaction of yours ever. The level of analysis with the proper amount of "nitpicking" was perfect - and actually highlighted how damn good this performance was. Especially from two guys you'd NEVER expect this from.
OMG ,Maggie you really need to sing with these two. Rob and Austin please please please contact her and sing together for all of us. You guys brought tears to my eyes.
I had never listened to opera before, although I was familiar with Pavarotti, Bocelli, and others. This intro to Opera through Austin and Rob was fantastic. The very first time I listened I was stunned. I was also so emotional at the ending crescendo that I literally teared up .... and I didn't know why other than their voices moved me. Didn't understand a word they were singing, but so great I cried. Thanks to both of them for venturing into this genre, and for your enthusiastic reaction.
Stunning isn't it Maggie? I froze, my jaw dropped and the tears started when I first saw and heard this. I absolutely adored Luciano Pavarotti and this piece.
Really Maggie, you think you could sing with them...your ego is so big it amazes me. Your voice is far less than you think it is...many reviewers I watch are opera trained and they all sound better than you.
I am so glad that you didn’t just take this apart and you appreciated it for what it was meant to be so thank you. 🙏 Not that I expected you to, quite the opposite in fact? I have seen classically trained singers react to this, a 45 minute analysis and break down of all of the bad parts and I didn’t make it 10 minutes. We love these guys and love them even more for doing this and putting it out there for those that love it but also for those that will take it apart and be critical. I think, and I have zero training, that it is gorgeous and it makes me more interested to see an opera, which is a good thing? They both surprised me but Rob? Holy good grief I was so shocked. I think the entire thing is special, special, special. Thank you Maggie! 💗
If you're talking about Peter Barber's analysis, he wasn't criticizing the "bad" parts. He was using the song as a teaching video about the difference between opera and other singing techniques and why opera is so different. Like Maggie, he did a lot of comparing between Rob's operatic technique and Austin's theatrical technique. It was a wonderful analysis and he didn't hate on or dislike Austin and Rob's video *at all*.
Thank you for your informative and entertaining reaction. We Home Fries who are not educated in opera can only hear this with our heart. We are, of course, proud of "our guys" from Home Free for their fearlessness in tackling a very intimidating genre. I was looking forward to your reaction because I knew you'd be fair, but honest.
I have been hitting this song since i first heard it looking for actual trained singers evaluate this. The simple reactors are fun to watch, but true singers are what i wanted to hear. Thank you for reviewing this
This performance is amazing! Thanks for demonstrating the difference between the operatic sound and the crossover sound. I enjoy your interpretations. ❤️
Heya Maggie. I do appreciate you and your reaction. But I do believe most of us are awe-struck by Rob and Austin doing this piece. They really did amazing. Now that being said. If you have not yet reacted to Austin singing “Bring him Home”.? You will be amazed. I hope to hear back from you John….😊
Not that I don’t love everyone in H F, but sometimes I feel that the 2 extremes ( Tim and Austin) get all of the attention. My favorite vocalists happen to be Rob and Chance. And Adam’s percussion, there are just no words. I’m hoping their latest album has some good Chance leads. It’s been a while.
There's a Q&A video out there somewhere in the wild where someone asked who they each thought was their best singer and all of them except Rob picked Rob. They're literally all fans of his voice.
I have come to enjoy each member of Home Free for the talent they have. It is really neat when the group picks a song that supports one or two to be the lead of that song. This spotlights what that one or the pair does different. No one has to be in the spotlight all the time. This has allowed the listeners to enjoy the multi talants of each member and the intermixing of the talents for wonderful sounds.
Thanks Maggie for understanding and realizing what this video was about and who the singers are and getting the beauty and emotion that is brought to most of us. I spent 45 minutes watching some young man deconstruct and tear down and point out the failures or both Rob and Austin for a less than 3 minute performance. Believe me when I say I would never watch another reaction done by said young man. Although I'm sure that other purist of genres would like his version. You did a great job and I appreciate your reaction and yes, I would love to see you with either of the guys or Home Free together. I think that would be simply awesome.
Peter Barber? I learned a lot but he over nitpicked . I love Maggie qualifying Austin as “classical crossover”. Austin would be fantastic as the romantic lead in Les Miz, don’t you think?

Yes Maggie Rob did have Opera training in college. But has not sung it in years. This was actually Austin's idea. During the premier they were a nervous. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

Yes, Rob is Classically trained and Austin is Theatrically trained. It is kind of like Avi was classically trained and received an invitation to be the basso profundo at The L.A. Opera House but received a call from Scott Hoying of PTX then next day and he walked away from the opera invitation. Now he is singing folk, western, Americana folk and had no intention of singing opera again. Rob said he was nervous with this at first because it had been 16 years since he had used his classical training to sing.
This is why music is such an amazing language, all in itself.......I do not understand one word they sang, but I felt every lyric, every note, and every emotion, which says a lot about their amazing artistry & talent ❣❣❣
Austin did a great job there, but Rob gave me goose bumps. I'm sure he could have a career in opera, if he chosed to. And they sounded great together, as they always do.
I just love to hear well supported soft singing. There are some pretty famous opera singers who do not have that level of support when they are singing softly.
Just, glorious! ❤️ Austin's timbre was the same, recognizable, and, why we love Austin! He's was fantastic! But, Rob!!! 😳 It was BEAUTIFUL!!! Both of them...just, BEAUTIFUL!!!
I know absolutely nothing about opera singing, aside from I love the power in the voices, so your explanations are amazing and so easy to understand. Love your reaction and information provided such a great balance of both!! Love it!!!
I have been waiting for you to do this video. Love that you do this from a baseline of fondness for the guys, with an honest and positive viewpoint. Still amazed at the talent in this HOME FREE group! 🤗Great review!
When I first became aware of this opera song they released, my first thought was "I gotta hear Maggie's reaction". I'm finally getting to it, and not disappointed at all. I'm not really into opera (at all) but I do enjoy this and your reaction/analysis of it.
Wow! Austin is definitely good. But Rob OMG. 😱 He would had been a fantastic opera singer if he had gone that way. What a voice! Emotional and powerful at the same time. And yet so smooth and likable. ❤ Not to forget the charisma he has when he sings. I swooned. 😊
Great reaction. I have watched it a few times. You're the best. The thing that amazes most about this is how Rob sounds after 15 years of not singing opera. And I really hope you get to do something with them.
I'm surprised by how shocked people are about Rob's voice. If you truly pay attention he is the least country sounding of the group. Go back and really pay attention and you will hear how clean/clear and beautiful his voice is. He is my favorite!!!
Love this! I had my son watching La Boheme at age 5 and my daughter started on La Triviata! They ended up playing in a symphony. We love all sorts of music and took my 8 year old to a Home Free concert in June.
I was blown away the first time I heard them sing this aria but then again that is my reaction to everything they do. It was so much fun watching and listening with you and hearing your commentary. Your excitement is very contagious.
I didn't realise Rob had this voice. It is an amazingly well trained voice. Of course Austin can reach that note, he's well known as a freak of high notes but this was awesome. Love your reaction! I've always known that Rob had the most variation capacity but this was stunning. Austin isn't particularly stretching himself but attempting to classicalise his voice, it still sounds great. ROB!!!!!
yep Austin had to talk Rob into doing it because Rob had not sung opera for a decade or 2 and wasn't sure if he would be able to anymore. But worked out great!
Love love LOVE listening to you react to this and break it down for us -- so much detail in exactly what they were doing and how they were doing it! Thank you so much for reacting to this! I hope you DO get to do a duet with Rob -- that would be wonderful!
Rob gave me glimpses of Pavarotti's version. It brought tears to my eyes. I loved listening and singing along side Pavarotti...not professionally but still I had a voice that I would love to have as I have aged. I lost it about 3 years ago and it's so hard. But Rob is phenomenal. Austin is a great singer, but for this genre.
@Maggie Renee thank you, as someone who knows nothing about opera I enjoyed your break down a lot! Yes this trio needs to happen. Warning 12 tracks on Home Free gorgeous album So Long Dixie were co-written by Tim and Austin! So stunning, they melt my ❤️ in a puddle! Can’t wait for you to hear these songs! (release November 4).
I know NOTHING about opera… but I made it through this reaction… and with such joy! So very interesting - I was singing along with you through the instruction. Your generosity and kindness was evident in your teaching and expression. You made it okay for even me to try. I bet you’re a tremendous instructor. 😊 Thank you.
I love how critical you are of their voices because I have absolutely no idea because I like country. The discipline it takes to be a specific craft like Opera is almost impossible for most people. One thing we can truly say is these are both amazing singers in general. Because of your reaction I will be subscribing and interested to see what else you react to.❤
1. Glad there were no flies in the room when Rob sang his 1st verse. 2. Shut your faces x 2. 3. Rob...WHAT? 4. I'm shaking...see? (yes, we see) 5. Rob...who are you? Possibly the greatest reaction ever. You don't know how many people were waiting so we could start laughing. You made us wait too long, but the wait was worth it. When I want a good laugh, I come here and watch.
That was sweet to see your head explode (LOL). Rob has the chops for opera for sure... Austin still has too much of a country influence (and nasality) even though I think he sounded great to this un-operatic ear! I thought they did a fantastic job with this. I loved hearing your analysis and diction discussion. Thank you for a very entertaining and informative reaction. Fun fact: I heard somewhere that it was Austin that urged Rob to do this.
I swear I was in the bath when I heard this and freaked out. FREAKED OUT. I’m not sure ppl without classical training really get this. Dude is a fricking opera singer. Expressive. Supported. Open. Full projection. Not singing back our down AT ALL. Diction on point. And holding his diaphragm to check breath support (I do that, terrible habit), but a dead giveaway. I repeat. Dude is an opera singer singing country music.
Your facial reactions to this video is absolutely amazing I can tell you are totally totally shocked and totally totally in love with them singing this piece
This was bravura stuff by both of these guys, but Rob clearly has the edge in technique and comfort level. I actually like that somewhat covered vowel from Rob - it feels more tender and emotional to me. And the high C at the end: they make it look so effortless. Authentic reaction and analysis! 🙌
Remember watching your reaction to this in the triple play video and it still as good now :D Yes you should definitely sing with both of them as it would be amazing to see. Can we start a campaign going and flood their channels to get it done?
Hands down my favorite reaction that you have done. The sheer joy in your expressions was just incredible! Thanks for the joy you’ve brought me, and your other many fans.
Hi Maggie. Thank you so much for posting this reaction as a stand alone from your live reactions. Watched it again and can now revisit it again and again.
This was fun! I saw this come across my UA-cam recs and knew I had to see it. I had heard the performance before and knew you'd be "Shooketh". Loved that you came in with low expectations. Your face for Rob's first solo says it all! 😁 From "big butts" to "vincerò" ... pretty talented guys aren't they? And the intro ... walking in as country boys, hanging their hats, and the next image of them is in suits belting out "Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!" No wonder you weren't prepared! 😅 Great reaction and analysis Maggie Reneé! Oh yeah ... 🤠
Based on your comments, yes, am getting able to hear the difference between classical trained and classical crossover ... that said, I find the use of both styles to work very well in this duet. I believe all classical can only be enjoyed live, not recorded ... yet I do enjoy this song very much. p.s., having heard the range of Tim, would love to see him with Rob and Austin as a trio ...
I was waiting for you to get to reacting to this number. I figured it would be a thing of joy to watch, and I was right. Thank you so much, Maggie. Loved it!
I enjoyed the heck out of both the original video and your analysis. That these young men would step so far out of their comfort zone is a good thing; that they did such a good job is even better.

Killer aria, Maggie. You said you’d perform it with them. Name your time, place, and price and I’ll be there.
Man I’ve been waiting forever since this video came out for you specifically to review it. Love your reaction.
I know absolutely nothing about opera singing, aside from I love the power in the voices, so your explanations are amazing and so easy to understand. Love your reaction and information provided such a great balance of both!! Love it!!!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream in 1 hour?
Maggie, this is your best-ever reaction! You were as surprised as everyone else, and it showed. I kept watching it over and over again. Well done!
I have been waiting for you to do this video. Love that you do this from a baseline of fondness for the guys, with an honest and positive viewpoint. Still amazed at the talent in this HOME FREE group! 🤗Great review!
Rob is on a completely different level here...amazingly good
Okay, Austin can sing like this to me 24/7 - I'm in love!
I'm so proud of Austin and Rob!! This us stunning
When I first became aware of this opera song they released, my first thought was "I gotta hear Maggie's reaction". I'm finally getting to it, and not disappointed at all. I'm not really into opera (at all) but I do enjoy this and your reaction/analysis of it.
🤘😊👍🎶❤️
You are not going to know what's going on. Rob's voice is amazing in this.
I know nothing about opera. Thanks for your reaction and interpretation of their performance.
Great reaction! I loved watching the excitement in your expressions.
Wow! Austin is definitely good. But Rob OMG. 😱
He would had been a fantastic opera singer if he had gone that way. What a voice! Emotional and powerful at the same time. And yet so smooth and likable. ❤ Not to forget the charisma he has when he sings. I swooned. 😊
Both good, but rob nailed it!😮
It's so awesome to see when a song you're reacting to reaches out and grabs you by the boo-boo your excitement and astonishment is so worth it
Great reaction.
I have watched this at least 20 times and everytime it moves me great job by Austin and Rob
ROB!!!!!
Thanks for your lovely comment! Hope you will be on my Live Stream in about 1 hour?
They both studied Opera and I'm glad they did!!!!
@Maggie Reneé sweetie, I'll say it again. I live in Australia so opposite time zones. Also, I work nights but I do love your reactions.
yep Austin had to talk Rob into doing it because Rob had not sung opera for a decade or 2 and wasn't sure if he would be able to anymore. But worked out great!
Love love LOVE listening to you react to this and break it down for us -- so much detail in exactly what they were doing and how they were doing it! Thank you so much for reacting to this! I hope you DO get to do a duet with Rob -- that would be wonderful!
Hello beautiful friend?
Rob, you have the most beautiful opera voice I've ever heard!! Please do more!!!!
Thank you for your very sweet comment. I appreciate it. Have a lovely week! ☺️💖
Thank YOU for opening this unexpected doorway and inviting a new initiant into your world!
"He's right in the mask" what an extraordinary compliment.
I love how critical you are of their voices because I have absolutely no idea because I like country. The discipline it takes to be a specific craft like Opera is almost impossible for most people. One thing we can truly say is these are both amazing singers in general. Because of your reaction I will be subscribing and interested to see what else you react to.❤
Welcome!! 👀👍💟 Hope to see you on my livestream in 2 hours! 🎶
I grew up listening to Opera and I'm a Home Fry. This is amazing!! Great reaction, Maggie! ❤❤❤
I agree that Austin had more of a nasal approach to this , particularly on his second pass. Rob had me all the way.
I don't know opera from a hole in the ground but to me the boys sounded awesome.
Your facial reactions to this video is absolutely amazing I can tell you are totally totally shocked and totally totally in love with them singing this piece
Surprisingly good performance from country singers. Great reaction, Maggie! Fine analysis! 🤠
Glad you liked it!! 🤠💖
That genre of music is SOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL on you OMG do more!!!!!
My pleasure 😊 Thanks so much for watching and enjoying! 🤗💖
Those two guys have always been excellent. You can take them anywhere.
I cry every time I hear this
Me too, and I don’t even know what they’re saying. 😊
You need to hear Austin sing Las Miserables
I haven't wanted to see a reaction more since they came out with this and your excitement did not disappoint. Also I love the education. Love it!
This was so good. I love to see the Home Free men do an a capella take on this.
All I can say is MORE, MORE, MORE please. I would like to hear you and Rob sing "The Prayer."
I Loved your reaction. I would love to see you and Rob do a duet.
10000 points for you, you are the only one that can sing this and the only reactor i've saw have fun with this
Thank you for your sweet comment. 🤗
Maggie, it was great fun watching your reaction to this. It was educational as well as fun, and your infectious joy and spontaneity was very refreshing. Thank you.
I’m so glad you can demonstrate the differences. Love your channel, your enthusiasm and I’m glad you have the ability to pick on the performances. You tell me what my ears are hearing ❤🥰🫠
Glad you enjoy it! And thank you for your lovely comment! 💖🥰🫠
Almost tearful with pleasure
I was waiting for your reaction to this one Maggie! Thank you for your candid remarks. ❤️
Whoa.... I can imagine the millions of hearts melting when Austin sings "splenderà".
