I had never heard of these guys til this video. Thanks for helping promote the breadth of bourbon out there, so much more to explore and you’re bringing it to light!
Thanks Matt, I appreciate it. This has been out for a bit now and they have 2 others in their lineup I'm looking at getting into. Thanks buddy, appreciate you watching and commenting, Cheers 🥃
I love me some Lost Monarch. I get it here for $30 and am never without a backup bottle. I really like it because it is so unique compared to so many other bourbons I enjoy. Love sipping this on the regular!
Hey Bob, couldn't agree with you more. However, its not necessarily my jam but I get what you're saying about different and unique. Cheers and the important part is you enjoy it. Cheers 🥃
I love this stuff. I just picked up my second bottle. The body & finish on this is great for a 90 proof.
Glad to hear you enjoy it that's always the important thing! Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting, 🥃
Sounds like this bourye is something you have to experience if you like your tasting notes that you got from this glass. From what you said, I think this would get better after you had a few glasses and got past the neck pour. Let it sit in the bottle for a few weeks and take another pour or two and let each glass open up and aft a few sips add a drop of water to see how it will change. I haven’t seen this yet but may give it a try if the opportunity comes up. Good honest review Scott. Cheers everyone.
Hey buddy, I've had the bottle open for some time and had a pour or two but man It's juat the one for me and that's ok, generally I give all my whiskey some open time but the herbal note is not something I really dig. Cheers buddy and I appreciate you watching and commenting. I will go back to it to see if there are any changes in it.
It's very good if your looking for something unique and different..
I was up in Northern Michigan for a weekend getaway with the wife and found this one. it's a good bottle for the price. it's not my favorite I taste the youth on it but happy I picked it up!
Its a different profile and for me not necessarily something I'd gi to very often but for others who enjoy something different, well, maybe this is for them. To each there own that's for sure
The Bourye blend is why I can call this a good sipper. I get the sprite flavor also and make sure I have a couple bottles of this on hand....Cheers and Phins Up...
Its definitely an interesting profile and to have this for people to try is something worth having around for sure. Cheers buddy and #PhinsUp
We will have to check it out!
Just a heads up Redwood Empire has all of their mash bills on their website if you want the information.
Thanks Kody, ill double check and add to the description, Cheers!
I really enjoy Lost Monarch. It is in my daily sipper rotation. I think it is very approachable and has a nice subtle rye bite.
Love to hear it! It was easy to sip on and can see it being in that category at that proof. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting! 🥃
it's a bit off profile for what i normally go for myself as well but i think it's different enough to still be a interesting change from the norm and it's something i will sip on occasionally.
Hey Greg, couldn't agree with you more, different enough to keep your interest but for me too different to want to go for very often.
Great review Scott. I can get this for about 30 bucks here in the Chi and I enjoy it. I think going in knowing it's a bourye and the mash bill, kinda helps the experience. Once it opens up , it gets really creamy. On a side note, what's your take on Redemption. It is MGP. No one ever talks about it. Would love for you to go through their core lineup. Is it worth buying?
Hey Gotta, that would be a much better price i feel for this based on what it is. As for the Redemption I believe its on the pricey side which may be a bit of an issue with the brand but honestly don't have much experience with it. I may have to look into it a bit more. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting 🥃
Redemption depends on which one it is. The standard bourbon is nice and not overpriced but nothing to write about. The high rye bourbon is excellent for old fashioneds but im not a big fan on its own. The wheated is solid but overpriced imo. The rye is again great for old fashioneds and the rum finish rye is awesome but again up there in price. Id say you should try them and see whats worth it to you.
Just scooped a bottle! Hell of a price for this dram. $35 and it’s killer!
It's an interesting profile for sure but one that always allows for good conversation while sipping. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting! 🥃
It's not a "dram"
@@detroyt232323 lol, are we getting this literal? 🤣. A dram by definition is a small drink of whiskey….sooooo yes, it could be a dram depending on how I poured it. 🤫
@@JR-tg1vg correct, you were wrong 👍🏼
@@detroyt232323 Sounds like you need to get a life if you’re splitting hairs as such. Maybe pickup another hobby, hang with the fam lol. 👍
Zesty
I love this bottle.
Its a different one for me but the important part as always is that you enjoy it! Cheers brother and as always I appreciate you watching and commenting! 🥃
Wich of the three expressions did you like the most?
I can get Emerald Giant and Pipedream all day long but haven't seen Lost Monarch in months.
Damn the internet hype train!!! Hahaha!
Did you look it up? It says a blend of 4-12 old bourbon and 3-5 year old Rye Whiskey.
We all know what that means, most is going to be on the younger side and it tasted like that!
@@mybourbonjourney Who knows? It is not a solera system so maybe you really are getting some good stuff in there. It tasted very complex to me with good density.
Hey whatever it is you taste it is what it is, you're not wrong! My experience is when distilleries say its aged between ages there is typically more younger stuff than older unless they are specifically telling you how much older stuff similar to what Bardstown Bourbon Co. does. If you like this and what it offers, thats all you can ask for. I don't care what people like or don't as long as YOU enjoy it, Cheers!
Redwood empire do a good job, especially with those gorgeous labels. People laud the lost monarch but ive always preferred pipe dream. Worth the money imo.
Hey Aiden, I'm looking forward to getting into the others to really see what this lineup has to offer, this lost Monarch is different enough to keep my attention but not sure its something I'd reach for all that often. Cheers buddy!
How do you think Redwood Empire 14 year Haystack Needle stands up to the three main spotlighters? It doesn't get near the recognition along with its finished casks as the main 3 🤔
The Haystack Needle release are on q whole other level, love those finished aged whiskeys. Agree they don't get talked about nearly enough! Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting! 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney Agreed, very much so 🧔🍻👨🦳 cheers friend, I enjoy the content and reviews on all the spirits you and the whiskey community put out, gratitude.
Thanks man, really appreciate that and your support, without people caring to watch wed just be talking to a camera, Cheers to you! 🥃
Hi have you heard of boondocks bourbon. I saw a 11 year old cast strength for about £60 and wondered if this is a good deal thanks Andrew
I have but don't know a lot about it, I'm assuming based on it's age it's a sourced bourbon most likely from MGP, Heaven Hill, Barton and or possibly Beam. The older stuff is always worth a try based on cost and availability. Cheers!
The 11 yr cask strength is not a bourbon its an american whiskey (i think its aged in used oak). Its got some spice and a lot of vanilla. I think its a solid pickup and is fairly complicated but wont be for everyone. The bourbon is really good at 50. Very oily and its port finished.
@@LeatherDaddy97 yes I had forgotten it was used casks not fresh. I will let you know when it arrives and I have tasted it thanks Andrew
@@LeatherDaddy97 Just tried the boondocks whiskey. It is fantastic stuff for the price. I had to add a few drops of water to lower abv but I loved the mouth feel. A really good whiskey for the money something I would buy again thanks Andrew
@@andrewmainprice2179 try the bourbon next also a very good mouthfeel
Paid 33 while I was working in chicago last month. It’s wasn’t worth that IMO.
Too many decent bourbons in that price range to buy again.
The ole whiskey to $ debate, lol. This is the 100% subjective argument everyone makes and its 100% valid! You buy and drink what you like and it is what it is. Cheers and I appreciate you watching and commenting 🥃
Never seen this priced at higher than 30 where I am
Thats how it goes, different prices in different locations, may be higher may be lower! Cheers!
I hated the herbal note so I traded this bottle.
Thats the fun part about Whiskey some may hate that others love it, the important part is you drink what you like not because someone tells you to like it. Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney I couldn’t agree with that more! Always going to be more bourbon to try out there!
i like herbal notes but the youth of this makes me want to stay away. thx for review.
It was definitely something a bit different for me and necessarily my cup of tea but if others enjoy that's perfect, drink and enjoy what you like! Cheers 🥃
