Review your favorite Castlevania games at warpstarmedia.com/?s=castlevania This is the origin story for dracula in the main Castlevania canon, NOT the Lord of Shadows games. A lot of people have said that the Netflix anime is more in line with Lord of Shadows. This is not really the case. There are a lot of facts in lord of shadows that contradict the anime. For example: in LoS Alucard was born a human and became a vampire later. In the anime and the normal games Alucard was born half vampire. In LoS Alucard and Trevor are the same person. In the anime and in the other games they are entirely separate people. I don't dislike the Lord of Shadows series, but this is the origin of the normal aeries and the anime
Yes, LoS is a reboot version of Castlevania, is not canon to the original timeline from all the previous games of Castlevania and in the Netflix...the Netflix one is canon to the timeline based on the Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse...the LoS has nothing to do with this
The normal series, yes. The anime makes no mention of Mathias Cronqvist, the stones, nor any of the story of Lament of Innocence. The most egregious sin it commits, in my opinion, is downplaying the importance of a Belmont being the one who kills Dracula, as well as the Vampire Killer itself.
This explains his outrage and motivation in the Netflix "Castelvania" series so much. - He became an immortal to spite god after death (or should that be Death) took his first wife - Regained his humanity with Lisa, his second wife - Couldn't handle it after she was executed in the "Name of God" - And went on a mass murder spree, attempting the genocide of the human race Alucard was right, his war on humanity really was "History's Longest Suicide Note."
I really understand Dracula and his reasons on the Castlevania series. I still think that he was generous, giving one full year to the people of Wallachia to get out of the city, regred of their actions or anything. If it was me, I whoud not wait even five minutes to kill everyone on that city.
@@Ivory5547 Dracula needed to gather an army. Even immortal blood suckers require time to prepare. But I agree. Should have wiped the city off the map and then done the year, so everyone knew he was serious.
Well, Lisa, much like Sypha’s family. Where’s executed by the church. They were executed by scared townsfolk. Basically the same reason why the Belmonts were Exiled. They didn’t understand their power so they ran them off. For Sypha, they didn’t like the fact that she was from a family of witches so executed them, she ended up running away and was brought in by the Orthodox Church and raised by them. But, the shows Dracula and Mathias would technically be two different people. Much like most of, if not all of, the Shows versions of the Characters as opposed to their game counterparts. A big give away for that is that the Belmonts still have Leon’s sword. Which he would have had to have given away as it was his status symbol as Baron.
@@Emperor_Mob it's not, it kinda just popped into my head after watching. I imagine it's something Bill Wurtz, the "history of the entire world, I guess" guy, would say though

To sum it up. 1. Lost his wife to death. 2. literally enslaved death Or the "spiritual incarnation" of it 3. Purposely tainted his own mortal soul and denied it to god by achieving immortality. 4. Spited god further by declaring himself the immortal enemy of all of gods creation. 5. eventually became a depressed recluse. 6. Fell in love with a mortal woman who drew out the good parts of him. 7. That woman was killed by servants of god in the name of god 8. Driven to practical insanity he tries to destroy the world. 9. Spends over a thousand years in war against humanity. 10. Is only ever defeated by things he created, IE his son or the Belmont line. The story of Castlevania is that of the destructive spiral of a single man.
12. Japanese boy's friend (quite possibly Dracula's first and second wife's reincarnation) was killed by a cult leader to draw out the evil within him. [Bad Ending]
@@motivation7982 Nah Death is completely enthralled by Dracula but even then after his initial transformation it's not solely Death that keeps returning Dracula to the mortal realm. He succeeded in escaping the cycle of life by creating his own cycle that was only finally broken by Julius and Soma nearly a thousand years later.
@@en4135 wrong. Dracula is a medium for Chaos, that's why everytime he's ressurected he becomes more and more of a monster with no feelings. Death is a creature born from Chaos. He only serves Dracula but he is loyal to Chaos. In Aria of Sorrow, Soma is Dracula's reincarnation because he possesses his soul. But even then, Death still fights him. Death isn't enslaved by Dracula, Death only really follows him because of the crimson stone. Everything you have said so far has been pulled out of your bottom
Wait so there are two bros, one becomes a vampire, the other a vampire hunter. While the vampire hunter doesn't succeed in killing the vampire, his descendants battle vampires for generations until the vampire is dead.... Anyone else get JJBA vibes here?
JoJo was released in 1987. Castlevania in 1986. Though, the whole concept of a family hunting vampires and demons was established way before in literature. No one copied anyone, is pure inspiration.

@@Emperor_Mob I would like to Imagine during one of his revivals he actually lost his memory, I mean once you get Chaos involved who is the opposite to God pretty much anything can happen, for all we know Chaos gave him and rest of the world a false memory of Dracula (probably not but you get my point anything can happen) but Head cannon is that Methias during a revival lost his memory and after living for a few centuries got the Name "Vlad Dracula tepes" which would explain at least to me why he was destined to go through his origin again except being a Vampire the second time around

I heard that Netflix was planning to create spin offs that take place in the castlevania universe. I wonder if one of these spin offs will be a prequel featuring Leon and Mathias.
There is so much they could pull from. It seems like since they started with Trevor (which I personally think that the best way to start since it introduces so many series characters) then you'd think Simon would be next since he is the son of Trevor and Sypha and the first of the Belmont Clan to have magic in their blood. He is also one of the strongest and most important Belmonts ever only be eclipsed by the strongest Belmont ever...Richter. so they did the old castlevania. and the ps2 series kinda. would be cool if they showed the more modern ones... aria/dawn of sorrow. ecclesia. and cotm.
interestingly even after becoming immortal Dracula wasn't evil at first. He only hated God and wanted to humiliate him by becoming immortal by his own means. However, he didn't hate humans. He had certain distain as he viewed them as hypocrites for worshipping tyrannical God. However, he didn't kill them unless they attacked him first. (which was pretty common due to religious bigotry) He isolated himself from humans to perform his research. He still could find attachment to humans as he taught Isaac and Hector. What pushed him over the edge was his second wife death. This is when he took name Dracula.
If you played the games, you would know Mathias DESPISED humanity and would do horrible experiments on them. He was not this misunderstood, tragic character. He outright stated "fuck god! fuck humanity! I'm isolating myself from all of that!".
It's kinda dumb to claim "tyrannical god" just because someone YOU liked dies. And honestly more dumb to try to call the definition of the abrahamic god "tyranical" like dued. If you have absolute certainty that it exists (like the do in castelvania) that god is directly responsible for all of existance, transcends space, time, and all other measures of existance, and is the complete arbiter of what is considered good, and evil. It's nothing short of a hissy fit to acknowledge the existance of such a thing, and follow up by trying to say it is in the wrong.
Not evil my foot... haha! Before lisa, vlad became hungry for power and did everything he can to acquire it.. including sacrificing his humanity and leon’s wife
Sure he saw the flaws in the religious wars of his time. But Matthias/ Dracula is a villain to his core and a coward. He is unable to face loss, unable to face death, and unable to accept fate/god. So he rebukes it like a child and tears at everyone and everything around him to drag them too down to the pit of hell with him- He swore affiliation to Lucifer after also feeling pity for Lucifer and his fall from grace- He became the Son of Satan and swore allegiance for alot of his magical power and control over night creatures which are direct enemies of mankind and their creator. Alucard is the more perfect form of Dracula and not a coward, but brave and a guardian of humans even when he can't fucking stand their stupidity he'll just go to sleep XD.
@@marthlink5015 Actually Mathias is not a coward. Why do you have to accept your fate and destiny when it is a shitty one? Why don't you want to change it if you could. The guy accomplished a feat that allows him to go against fate. I don't view that as running away or cowardice. At the same time, I don't like the idea of you sacrificing yourself so that dumb evil people can live their lives. That to me is not noble but idiotic. And what makes humans to special that someone else has to sacrifice themselves to protect them? I just don't get it. In every story like X-Men, justice league where we have people with superpowers getting treat like crap by humans. Yet, they still want to sacrifice themselves to protect their very tormentors? Isn't that Stockholm's syndrome? The villians in those stories are correct. They are a superior race, they should be the one making rules and having authority.
after many years still cant beat dracula... all until an underage kid shows up. who was supposed to get dracula's soul. and fight julius belmont. defied dracula soul. because he was in love. took dracula's soul. beat chaos. who kept reviving dracula. beat death. beat a whole cult. inherited over 200+ souls. meanwhile the belmonts : we got a whip.
So let me get this straight his wife dies so he decides to make his best friend kill his wife then expects that friend to want to live forever with him? This guy is horrible. He literally destroys his Best Friends life, causes him to give up his Nobility, causes him kill his wife, causes him to fight a master vampire because HE lost his wife and wanted to "SPITE God."
Excellent lament of innocence synopsis. Something interesting of note= Walter had possession of the sister stone to the crimson stone, the ebony stone, aka the stone of eternal night. Also both stones are made with alchemy and are essentially byproducts of supposedly an alchemist true goal, to find/create the philosopher's stone.
Why not just watch it it’s out? And all they change is he takes on the vlad the impaler origins instead of the holy knight origins but I believe the rest since the introduction of the Belmont’s stays the same
If Castlevania gets another season it would be awesome for trevor to discover this connection between Dracula and Leon. Leon exists in the animated series and we even see his portrain at the Belmont hold and it was said that he left France to hunt Dracula. For me that means the animated series acknowledges this plotline here because it is strange for someone to just leave their home in the middle ages to hunt some vampire on the other end of the world. But if that vampire was your best friend now corrupted you would feel responsible.
Lament of Innocence was one of my favorite games in the Castlevania series (and I've played a lot, everything from the Gameboy to the N64 games and more). I remember having to whip Sara to death in the start of the game though (to get the vampire killer) and I was like "dang that's brutal" lol 😆 I know it was brief but still.
Not in the start of the game, but in the beginning of the end after you met Walter for 1st time. But i agree LoI is a great game and even miles better than N64 titles imo
Annoying how netflix only people empathize with dracula.. they dont know he’s the asshole in the beginning.. there’s a reason why he’s known as a monster before lisa
Mathias Cronqvist sold his soul to become immortal. Transformed into the lord of vampires to defy God for the early death of his beloved wife. A few centuries later, he met another woman who looks exactly like Elisabetha(Lisa Fahrenheit) falls in love with her even given birth to an offspring, but humans accused her of being a witch and burns her at the stake. This time Dracula is on a suicide mission to take revenge on every human being. If we look closely at the story Castlevania. It really is a love story revolving around Dracula and the woman( or in this case women) he loves most
I thought Dracula was meant to be the original vampire. But if that's not the case, who was and how did vampires come into existence? Or were they just always around?
It's kind of like Hellsing Ultimate. Where vampires and other super natural evils have been around for thousands of years. They just aren't common or well known to the masses.
@@runtergerutscht4401 OG Game canon actually has the Morningstar be an upgrade/form to the Vampire Killer, not a separate weapon like the animated series had it be.
So wait, I thought Gabriel Belmont was Dracula? This skit is very interesting, and I need to get more involved in more of the Castlevania games and storylines.
These are the godly games I grew up with. Rich stories/lore full of elaborate detail with minimal graphics. No. It is not nostalgia. It is called having standards.
There's this speculation that Lisa was a reincarnation of Elisabetha, his first wife and kind of makes more sense if you think about it. Like his first wife's name was spelled and how Lisa was the only the only woman he ever loved.
Yeah, it makes sense. I don't think it's ever explicitly stated though. Lisa and Elizabeth are definitely kinda representative of each other at the least
I thought this would be Gabriel Belmont on the series like on the castlevania ps4 game. Where he killed the shadows but since there has to be evil to be good he had to be the substitute of the shadows hence becoming Dracula. Cause the one on the series kind of reminds me of Gabriel.
If you ever played Symphony of the Night you would of seen that both Alucard and Dracula take their image from that game. Lamont of innocence is the game at the beginning of the timeline. Lord of Shadows is set in another universe
@@faith4657 their are two timelines from my understanding the original which covers most games and the lords of shadow which tells it own story both are canon but they are desperate canons
on second Note: i did had a level of sympathy and understanding for Mathias suffering and is easy to for me to understand why a man would break under tragic experiences such this.. but the second Mathias threw DEATH on Leon that is when he loses all my sympathy you just don't do that to the Belmont you know also thank you for adding the intro theme from CV64 Reinhardt schneider the Belmont will always be another tragically underrated badass
He could've just have a talk with Leon, that might have helped him to get over his grief but no, he betrayed his best friend in life becoming an unholy being.
After death of his first wife Mathias hasn't become evil yet. He didn't kill humans he only isolated himself. The death of his second wife turned him into monster.
@@TaigaXsenpai Mathias or rather Dracula at that point has killed humans in the Anime canon, meeting Lisa was what made him rethink his ways and her death is what sent him down a spirale of hate and his plan like in the games became to slaughter humanity for what they did to her. it would also make sense that the game canon version of Dracula did kill humans, we never really learned about what happened after he became a vampire and left Leon to die. Leon actually never fought Dracula himself, he never saw him again and the first Belmont to encounter the evil count was Trevor. There is also the fact that he told Death to kill Leon after he said no to the offer of becoming a vampire as well.
Tbf Leon had sworn an oath to destroy him. THAT lost all my sympathy for him. Dude, your best friend found a way to live forever. Just because it’s not for you, just leave him be
Stryga, Morana, and Lenore are all Netflix Original characters. They do not have any lore beyond that. They are not in the video games. The only one that is on the video games is Carmilla, and Carmilla’s goals in the Netflix series are the complete opposite of her video game counterpart.
Leon Belmont was part of the 1st Crusade, so these events take place in or around 1096 AD, a full 400 years before the events of Trevor Belmont, and nearly 600 years before Simon Belmont.
The whole mess would have been solved if the stones were destroyed. Destroying the stones would stop it. Since death would appear, one could bargain with death to put a stop to the stones having an effect.
It felt good that Simon Belmont was the very first hero that showed in this video although i also think Leon is a great underrated Belmont and i know how much i love Lament of innocence and all 3DVania games is just strange and almost funny that the name DRACULA was never mentioned within the CV Lament of innocence games i guess in my mind i been wanting to believe that Mathias was just another powerful vamp lord aside of Dracula who became years later or whatever the case, i still totally prefer the Gabriel Belmont and the animated series version of Dracula as the Real Lord Dracula but either way it was a good put together video was cool to see Leon in it too
The castlevania show show Leon Belmonts picture so I would believe that lament of innocence is canon to the shows timeline, as the Belmonts did hunt the night until they were persecuted and their house burnt down. Even Dracula knows of the Belmonts so they had been at war with him for sometime. I mean was not very impressed with Trevor meaning he may have faced other Belmonts and probably killed them, as it seems Trevor was the first Belmont to actual kill Dracula

Was even Mathias a real friend to begin with? He allowed his FRIEND's lover to be capture by a vampire after he himself has lost his own wife. Then he had the audicity of asking Leon to join him in immortality. Not a friend at all if you ask me. I wouldn't want my Friend to go through the same pain as I, putting his lover's life in danger after I already lost mine.

If we apply this to the Netflix Castlevania series then shouldn't Dracula be hugging his first wife in Hell instead of the second wife? Or did he just ignored her and kept on loving the second wife? I mean it'd too lame that he became Dracula for the first wife but didn't choose her to be with when reaching Hell.
It’s a different Dracula. A main give away to this is that the Belmonts still have Leon’s Longsword. Which should’ve been given away in his pursuit of Sara after she was taken. The fact that they still have it would mean that Sara wasn’t taken and the whole thing with the Vampire Killer being made never happened. Another give away to the Morningstar being completely different is Dracula’s complete dismissal of the Morningstar, by saying “The Morning Star whip...well played, Belmont. But I am no ordinary vampire to be killed by your human Magics. I am Vlad Dracula Tepes, AND I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!” VK was made specifically to hurt Vampires, as Leon himself stated when he finally unlocked that form, he could feel the hatred for Vampires radiating off from the whip itself. So if the Morning Star was suppose to be the Vampire Killer, Dracula wouldn’t be saying “Well played”, he’d be shitting himself.

Anyone ever play the game Castlevania & the lords of showdow ? The game came out I think in 2010-2011 in that game you play the protagonist Gabriel Belmont who later becomes Dracula. After defeating the lords of shadow he needs to drink from a very old vampire to become what he’s given he’s life to kill, he needs to drink to become a vampire to be able to enter hell & fight a very powerful demon who’s only objective is to end all life, that demon was seals away with the combine strength of all 3 lords of shadow.
If Only Netflix had created a more faithful Adaption of the Original Castlevania Series & not the trash that the creators came up with, the anime would have been so good.
Is there another game or source that explains when Mathias changes his name to Dracula? I was surprised Lament of Innocence didn't show the name change to confirm they are the same person and only implied it in the epilogue after the credits.
Also alucard from hellsing could very well be the same alucard in castlevania as he could have renounced his human attributes after some life changing event in his life between the two time lines
I kinda hope this changes via the anime. Dracula seemed ancient, from a time before humanity revisited the stupid ages. Like in 40k, the age of strife reset humanity, but the emperor persisted. Same with dracula, but he despised what humans became, so he hoarded the secrets of history in his castle for himself. Until lisa came along. And now alucard and the belmonts and belnaese's will lead humanity forward again.
While I like the main canon backstory of Dracula, I MUCH prefer the backstory of Dracula from 'Castlevania Lords of Shadow' as it is more compelling, interesting and creates a greater connection between Drac and the Belmonts because in the LoS series... SPOILERS!!! Dracula's original identity was that of Gabriel Belmont, who was bound by destiny and didn't exactly choose too become Dracula.
If I'm not mistaken the lore never specifies when he changes his name. As to the dracula meaning dragon: I think the title was awarded to the father of Vlad the impaler and he inherited it from his father
@@Emperor_Mob I think it depends on source I was going off a video series don’t know yours but it’s sounds more based the story story of vlad the impaler more then anything else but that is on surface level really don’t know
This doesn't add up...Dracula didn't come before Castlevania as The Chaos is the whole reason dracula continues to exist. Now that I think about it, wasn't Walter's Castle also named Castlevania?
The booklet for Castlevania the adventure says that dracula built Castlevania himself. I don't recall Walters castle ever being called Castlevania though. Some people do speculate that they could be the same castle
That is likely long after that. Mathias only had Walter's powers after binding his soul. But by the time he meets trevor belmont hes more powerful than Walter ever was
Death a different type of vampire which is tired of man but compelled to reap souls for POWER =another unknown entity which controls human and inhuman alike
Lords of Shadow Dracula is way better than main continuity Dracula because he does his own dirty work. He didn't trick a Belmont to defeat an enemy to steal its power; he was the Belmont that defeated the monsters and took their powers. There's a funny chad-virgin dracula image that states both versions' differences.

interestingly even after becoming immortal Dracula wasn't evil at first.
He only hated God and wanted to humiliate him by becoming immortal by his own means. However, he didn't hate humans. He had certain distain as he viewed them as hypocrites for worshipping tyrannical God. However, he didn't kill them unless they attacked him first. (which was pretty common due to religious bigotry)
He isolated himself from humans to perform his research.

To be fair, the show doesn't go by the game canon, it's more of its own thing where they just made up a new origin for Dracula

There is also the fact that he told Death to kill Leon after he said no to the offer of becoming a vampire as well.

My guess is that he just changed his name, after all Mathias Cronqvist died that day and the King of the Night was born.
The castlevania show show Leon Belmonts picture so I would believe that lament of innocence is canon to the shows timeline, as the Belmonts did hunt the night until they were persecuted and their house burnt down. Even Dracula knows of the Belmonts so they had been at war with him for sometime. Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.
Another give away to the Morningstar being completely different is Dracula’s complete dismissal of the Morningstar, by saying
“The Morning Star whip...well played, Belmont. But I am no ordinary vampire to be killed by your human Magics. I am Vlad Dracula Tepes, AND I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!”
VK was made specifically to hurt Vampires, as Leon himself stated when he finally unlocked that form, he could feel the hatred for Vampires radiating off from the whip itself.
Would that make vlad Tepesh Dracula. “Mathightus vlad tepesh dracula”
Also alucard from hellsing could very well be the same alucard in castlevania as he could have renounced his human attributes after some life changing event in his life between the two time lines
Hellsing Alucard is named dracula
I kinda hope this changes via the anime. Dracula seemed ancient, from a time before humanity revisited the stupid ages. Like in 40k, the age of strife reset humanity, but the emperor persisted. Same with dracula, but he despised what humans became, so he hoarded the secrets of history in his castle for himself. Until lisa came along. And now alucard and the belmonts and belnaese's will lead humanity forward again.
They make a lot of reference to Leon in one episode of season one, so I'm guessing the story is the same
While I like the main canon backstory of Dracula, I MUCH prefer the backstory of Dracula from 'Castlevania Lords of Shadow' as it is more compelling, interesting and creates a greater connection between Drac and the Belmonts because in the LoS series...
SPOILERS!!!
Dracula's original identity was that of Gabriel Belmont, who was bound by destiny and didn't exactly choose too become Dracula.
I remember this game. How about Castlevania Lord Of The Shadow? When Gabriel Belmont became...
you left out the context here he changed his name be it means the dragon and at this point he was mad at humanity for the death of his wife
If I'm not mistaken the lore never specifies when he changes his name.
As to the dracula meaning dragon: I think the title was awarded to the father of Vlad the impaler and he inherited it from his father
@@Emperor_Mob I think it depends on source I was going off a video series don’t know yours but it’s sounds more based the story story of vlad the impaler more then anything else but that is on surface level really don’t know
@@Emperor_Mob you are correct.Vlad's father Dracul means "The Dragon" while i can remember that Dracula means "Son Of The Dragon"
Theres a lot of info missing but this is a great video
I like how Castlevania could be just JoJo's adventure's but with magic and magical beings in it
Ikr the way both have many protagonists but a long lasting enemy
This doesn't add up...Dracula didn't come before Castlevania as The Chaos is the whole reason dracula continues to exist. Now that I think about it, wasn't Walter's Castle also named Castlevania?
The booklet for Castlevania the adventure says that dracula built Castlevania himself.
I don't recall Walters castle ever being called Castlevania though.
Some people do speculate that they could be the same castle
That is likely long after that. Mathias only had Walter's powers after binding his soul. But by the time he meets trevor belmont hes more powerful than Walter ever was
It was but Mathias stole his castle me thinks, and then redecorated.
Death a different type of vampire which is tired of man but compelled to reap souls for POWER =another unknown entity which controls human and inhuman alike
I think Death is actually compelled by Dracula. He is kinda Dracula's servant
