That's the thing, it wasn't an Adults Only game. It was Mature, but that apparently was too mature for their intended demographic despite that the rating's 17+ and Adults Only is 18+. And yet, people are perfectly fine if a 17 year old watches a rated R movie that contains nudity.
I don't even like sexual things in general but I will never understand why it's treated quite the way it is in games, violence is depicted all the time no problem, but sex is apparently too far? They jumped on it for political brownie points with their base at the time. Hillary Clinton was/is an ambitious demagogue. Hot Coffee came up smack dab in the middle of campaigning season for the 2006 mid-term elections. Clinton, along with many other local politicians both Democrat and Republican, actively spearheaded attempts to control video-games and characterize them outside the 1st Amendment because doing so was seen as favorable to the Family voting bloc. What's even more cynical is that as soon as the midterms ended everyone stopped caring, including Clinton, the one who started the fiasco in the first place.

Yeah they were hosting the mod on a website, they can track doen who owns the website and sue them... The people who reverse engineered the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer with AlterIWnet were shut down by cease and desist. The people who ran BF2 Revive were hit by cease and desist.
The thing that caused even more contraversy with San Andreas is the fact that Rockstar tried to deny they put that in there. When it was first discovered on PC, they tried to claim it was just a mod that a gamer created, but when people figured out how to unlock it on the PS2, people knew it wasn't just a mod. Rockstar then admitted it was a mini game they were going to put in the game, but changed their mind. Instead of deleting it all together, they just removed it from the game and left the code for it hidden on the disc, but still intact. People naturally discovered the code to unlock it.
They also tried to make it seem like you had to dig into the code and make major modifications to put it back in, when all you had to do was change the condition of an IF statement.

ESRB: This game is super violent, it deserves the rating M for mature *Stupid parents everywhere*: Yes gamestop employee #55234 my child wants the call of duty. They better not become violent and unbearable as a result of my neglect. ESRB: HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???
Actually did a study in middle school on this topic. "Normal" kids playing violent games showed no change after playing said games. Kids with ADHD became more focused and calm after playing a hectic mind intensive shooter. Kids predisposed to commit violence I.E. bullies, kids with abusive relationships with their parents, became more violent as a result of playing violent games. At the end of the day, the problem lies solely and squarely at the feet of the parent. Good parenting will overcome any and all violent games. I'll try to look up the names of the research papers I've cited but this is all from 12 years ago+.
It helps some kids, and violent games are great for helping push gun reform laws (though the laws keep weapons out of the hands of law abiding citizens, but I digress.) Pretty much any game with good strategy and problems that require on the fly critical decision making are good for kids. Papers please is great for attention to detail, shooters are great for acquiring and taking down targets, KSP is fun for playing NASA. Violent children should be kept away from violent games, but that should be the parents' responsibility. Trying to find that study is kicking my ass...
The secret is that targeting video games like most so called weapon control laws have done nothing to stop criminals or the mentally ill from doing reprehensible things. It’s all too easy to target guns or knives or media entertainment as opposed to actually facing the truth and reality. The ones pushing this crap only seek further suppression of your wealth and liberty.
That Spice Girls loading screen I actually know the reference! So, embarrassing story, my first concert was the Spice Girls. That scene is something they did during their “Naked” tour on stage. I remember that scene as a kid and I was literally reminded of it because of this video.
The only thing odd with the last one is that it's pretty weird to make out with yourself, and it's extra weird if only one copy of you sounds exactly like Toby Maguire.
I was always dumbfounded that something that had to be modded to even access was blown up to be so controversial. A mod caused an Ao rating? You could mod so much worse into games! It took me far too long to realize it was just corrupt politicians, doing what they do. They didn't care about the mod, they just had something to bite and they tore it open to further their agenda.
I think it had more to do with the fact that the assets for the mini game was already in the games files, even though the mini game usually disabled in-game, that they were horrified that it meant that Rockstar had at once point wanted the player to go through a mini game after your girlfriend invites you in for "hot coffee". Though I think that the whole affair was rather dumb, considering that most teenagers - let's just admit it, many gamers playing it weren't 17 years old or older - know what sex is.
I mean people mod full out nudity and sex into sims games. It makes me wonder what people back in the 90s and early 2000s would have thought about that
For the last thing, seriously? They removed a whole feature because of noncanon lesbians doing what, kissing? When in the actual meant-to-be-played game theres a hetero kiss anyway? This feels like a "arson murder and jaywalking" moment after all the previous entries. A lesbian kiss got the boot. Wack.
Actually it's more about the unintentional "selfcest" scene that gives the cheat, but i agree that they should have let the rest of the cheat options available.
I played the game completely and after completion you get the option to play as Harry Osborne and Mary Jane. This wasn't some cheat (I played on the PC version though)
@Bepis I guarantee you that if that game was released today, they still would’ve taken the Mary Jane X Mary Jane scene out. Legal or not, companies producing games aimed at children still see it as taboo or “too adult” to include any form of LGBT content. A recent example being when Nintendo released Tomodachi Life (a life simulation game where your Miis can get married), they patched a glitch where same-sex miis could marry. a GLiTch.. so not only was this LGBT content unintended, but they also took the time out to remove it. anyone claiming that “this generation is progressive” is bullshit.
What's also weird, is that there's a backyard garden type area in the game where nude male and female NPCs spawn regularly. But that was allowed to stay.
@Aleksandra Zaryanova My guess for why the ESRB is so anal is because of the way it was created. Companies made the ESRB so that the government wasn't the one that would be in charge of rating games. I guess they now think that any fuckup would be grounds for their disbandment and replacement.
@@brokengirl_wolf8433 yea that seems much worse than shooting at cops and security guard's and hacking into equipment all over the city....(sarcasm greatly intended)
@Aleksandra Zaryanova Than*. Then is what you say when talking about time. Than is for comparisons. Kidding aside, good spelling is important, but does not trump the original argument. ESRB has gone too far at several points for sure, and bad parents are always the real reason kids get unsuitable games. But the ESRB has to be anal about things to help protect the industry from scaremongering politicians who keep spreading lies that rude games are being sold to children to corrupt them. The ESRB is the lesser evil. Old people calling video games the work of the devil are the true threat.

Some of these are already in mature titles though, hot coffee was only that controversial because it was attached to GTA and very little will convince me otherwise. For Easter eggs like these in E or T rated titles I can understand the outcry (and the Halo 2 thing, fascinating it was, is also understandable), but For Honor's "controversy" makes no goddamn sense. One Easter egg I always thought was impressive was in the DS game "Lock's Quest". After beating the Game, you can still explore the overworld. If you examine a grave in one area with a skull on top of it, the skull's eyes will start glowing. If you return to the overworld, there's a previously unavailable location on the map. If you go there, there's a cluttered room with a pool in the center of it. If I remember correctly, you have to pop a bubble in that pool, then activate a generator somewhere else in the room. Finally, you interact with a broken lamp on the wall. Only then, will a doorway appear in the room, which lead's you to the "Hall of Heroes". It's a surprisingly big area where you can find a lot of NPC's which are supposed to represent various developers for the game. It's really convoluted, and I have no idea how eleven year old me figured it out. The Hall even has a guard at the entrance which asks you if you used to internet to find it. If you say no, he kills you. Not many people know about this Easter egg since the game itself didn't sell too well, but I still think it's worth a mention.
Another elaborate easter egg is the secret level in Marathon Infinity. On the first and the last levels you can find two hidden terminals containing hex code. If you write that code down, convert it into ASCII text, save it as text file and expand it with Stuffit (Stuffit being the mac equivalent of WinRAR as far as I know) you will get a Stuffit archive. Unpack it again and you will get a map file containing a single level "Hats off to Eight Nineteen". Interestingly you can see a garbled screenshot of this level two times in the main game: on the second hex terminal and on another terminal with a cryptic message about "Hangar Ninety Six". Hats off to Eight Nineteen also contains two further easter eggs. Firstly it has been confirmed that "Eight Nineteen" refers to 8th and 19th letters of the alphabet: H and S. This is most likely a nod to Hamish Sinclair, the administrator of Marathon fanpage. Secondly the only terminal on the level contains a short story set in the world of Duality, a game Double Aught (a small team that split from bungie at the time) was developing.

Rockstar took precautions with "Hot Coffee" when they shipped the game. Modders essentially flipped a switch in the game's code that allowed the game to access the sequence RS censored. The irony is that RS caught heat for something someone else did.
For the life of me, I still can't understand the whole M and AO thing. One's for 17 and up. The other's for 18 and up. They're almost the same exact age rating. At least, E, T, and M are reasonably spaced a part.

I mean hacking is usually against the EULA of video games/consoles. Especially back then.
They would do that.

ESRB: This game is super violent, it deserves the rating M for mature
*Stupid parents everywhere*: Yes gamestop employee #55234 my child wants the call of duty. They better not become violent and unbearable as a result of my neglect.
ESRB: HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???
Protoka games don’t even make kids violent either
Actually did a study in middle school on this topic. "Normal" kids playing violent games showed no change after playing said games. Kids with ADHD became more focused and calm after playing a hectic mind intensive shooter. Kids predisposed to commit violence I.E. bullies, kids with abusive relationships with their parents, became more violent as a result of playing violent games. At the end of the day, the problem lies solely and squarely at the feet of the parent. Good parenting will overcome any and all violent games. I'll try to look up the names of the research papers I've cited but this is all from 12 years ago+.
Protoka so if that’s the case, Why are we targeting violent video games if it is actually helping kids ? This is so stupid to me.

Someone is making money off of those fines against those game companies.
They’re probably saying that the fact that it’s in the game at all is horrible, when kids shouldn’t even be playing GTA
I think it had more to do with the fact that the assets for the mini game was already in the games files, even though the mini game usually disabled in-game, that they were horrified that it meant that Rockstar had at once point wanted the player to go through a mini game after your girlfriend invites you in for "hot coffee". Though I think that the whole affair was rather dumb, considering that most teenagers - let's just admit it, many gamers playing it weren't 17 years old or older - know what sex is.
its not a mod that added the content the content was in the games files the mods just made it accessible
Calm your progressive ass down. It happened. Your whining won't change anything.

Watchdogs 2 shouldn't have to change anything if there game is M rated by the ESRB.

When I played watchdogs 2 when it was first released I stumbled across a house where you can hear, inside, people getting it on literally.

That's neat, but I wouldn't exactly say it was awkward.
I was just throwing that out there on the topic of Easter eggs in general.
That sounds like some call of duty zombies shit right there.
@adenowirus Well I'm sure eleven year old me wouldn't have gotten that one.
how about why you cant put profanity for a horse name on red dead redemption 2
lol i didnt know that, i might actually use that for something
and i tought RDR2 was the game of the year
oddheader. Yeah its weird for a rockstar game to do something like that
Can you name your horse Dick? Would like to know, I named mine roach (very unique)
Viper. No. You can't even say butt
"Don't touch that squirrel's nuts." That's what she said. I had to do it.😹🐿
>Sell alcohol in regular store even if it's age restricted to 21+ in USA in most places
>Can't sell a game that is 18+, but drugs for 21+ are ok somehow.
You have 199k but you are so much better than most Top 10 channels

1:17 he actually had to drop and break a coffee mug for the video lol RIP mug
Hopefully for Ellen Page, Beyond Two Souls was a mostly controversy-free experience

I remember actually doing the MJ code in spiderman to make her kiss herself, but at the time, I was young so I just did it cause it was funny
Making coffee at the start.
Your channel my man is one of the bests.
So chilled! I literally DECIDE to watch your videos when I'm thinking it's time to relax.
Rockstar took precautions with "Hot Coffee" when they shipped the game. Modders essentially flipped a switch in the game's code that allowed the game to access the sequence RS censored.
The irony is that RS caught heat for something someone else did.
"Beyond Two Souls, oh i guess not" 💀 i loved that
I don't know if it is all the anime I've been watching, but the 'awkward' For Honor gaffe was downright hilarious.
This channel is amazing. I never knew about that Broken Sword 2 one! That would have saved me some time back in the day.
0:35 - "Too hot"? Really? Two lowpoly clothed manekenes rubbing against each other is too hot? I envy your libido.
For the life of me, I still can't understand the whole M and AO thing. One's for 17 and up. The other's for 18 and up. They're almost the same exact age rating. At least, E, T, and M are reasonably spaced a part.
I always wanted to play that "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" game... I forgot it even existed. Ebaaaay!!!!
Don't even try. Played it for a bit and it was TRAAAASH
@@Fr0staX: I know it'll likely be trash. But I honestly don't really mind. It'll never be "Postal 3" and I'm happy for that.
11:40 - man, your F-bomb here was priceless!
So a player posted a image of a game he has played on this copy protected system. And then gets banned for posting it? WTF? That is not his failure. That is Sony's failure!
