In spite of another wild year, many awesome discoveries were made. Which is why today we’re diving into the top 10 best video game discoveries of 2021.
UPDATE TO FNAF:SL SEGMENT 1/8/2022:
The blue screen discovery in the FNAF:SL segment was originally found by FNAF hacker Kostya (still in 2021); additional research cited in the segment was assisted by GBAura-Recharged. Submitter Ashley’s involvement was separate. I have since verified Kostya was the first to have found the screen and deserves the credit for doing so. They haven't been too phased by the omission, but it’s important to me they're both properly recognized for making one of the best video game discoveries of the year. Deepest gratitudes to them both for being so cool about it. - Odd.

No sorry I don't take part in such a toxic community
OMG YOU GOT A GENSHIN SPONSER!!!! CONGRATS!!
No
Lets ignore this lol
God damn, that Dreadout find is absolutely wild.
I'm not even gonna say this as a coincidence, most of indie games have the most wildest hidden unused discoveries
@@noyoucantnoicantnowecantsostop I'm waiting for The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe to find out if they implemented that elevator or capsule ending that was always crashing the game.
That's why it's number one.
You mean fatal frame
@@infernaltourist9601 sorry mate, that elevator easter egg was proven to be fully scripted to purposely crash the game. Meaning it is intentional. Tho that doesnt mean they couldnt add more to the easter egg in a newer version but still.
Sweet! This is the person that submitted the DreadOut 2 discovery! Seeing this is the best Xmas gift of 2021! Some things I want to clarify/explain though. It was thanks to the youtuber Heuster101 that I was even able to find Buto Ijo 15:14 in the first place. If I hadn't seen one of his videos showing his location I never would have even thought to go there and investigate his basement in the first place. Second it isn't shown in the vid but after killing *(SPOILERS)* The Creature/Siska with the camera it goes into the developer room but past that is some strange cave that isn't really a cave but a ledge that you can drop from and fall into Limbo(a specific location that has more importance later in the map but doesn't do anything when you drop into it except play the music. During the daytime portion if you drop into Limbo it's too bright to see anything but it you go there at night you can see more... including a pair of zombie legs sticking out of the "ground" of Limbo..
I honestly don't know why the hell she is down 16:00 but I just think that maybe this whole location was tied to some old, removed Rubik's Cube item, which also had an achievement tied to it, also removed now. Solve the Rubik's Cube, get access to the sealed door, find this monstrosity... profit? Of course now it is too late to figure out if that was indeed the case but at least that sealed door issue can be circumvented by the wall-glitch.
Lastly the program I used to wall-glitch in the first place is Universal Unreal Engine 4 Unlocker. It's easy enough to obtain and works with any Unreal-based game, including DreadOut 2, Samurai Shodown, Scarlet Nexus or even Fighting EX Layer. I'm sure this game and many more have some secrets that need to be discovered! Go out there and make them discoveries!
Awesome!
Amazing job lad !
@@Sushi-jx1xr Limbo is this place here /watch?v=Xb86HVUQYAw . In the first game it is where you go whenever Linda dies and you have to walk to the end of it. In the sequel it only appears during a pivotal scene when Linda dies but you have to talk to a ghost from the first game to get out of it. When you go through the Secret Dungeon in this vid and get fall off into Limbo you actually fall right on top of it rather than into it(at night you can see that you are on top of it).
Ironically the "meaty place" near the end doesn't have anything really hidden away to find with the free cam though.
🧢
I just finished Dreadout 2 & everything on the video is in the game. The large up-side down face is the final boss you fight after the end credits. The other monsters also appear on the final chapter.
The room with all the pictures is in the secret room you find in Siska's house in the basement (2nd to last chapter). You need a key for it but easy to find.
And the creature with the cat "Buto Ijo" appears in the prologue that you can play after completing the game. So not really an Easter egg. So everything you see were just placeholders most likely.
I think the strangest thing about the FNaF thing is that it can only be triggered in Ballora Gallery If it could be triggered at any time then it would make sense as a debug screen of some sort, but it's just in that one room.
i think it might be something we need to decode not in game, because scott hides lore info in stuff like that all the time.
@@thedoglovinggamer5825 I think its like a debug screen, cause that screen is reminiscent of a RAM dump
@@taekrevenge possibly but it is weird you can only access it in ballora's gallery.
@@thedoglovinggamer5825 maybe they tried to patch it out but missed that it would still work in one room?
It most likely just some hidden lore text, from what I gather the fnaf games are full of wierd ways to uncover missing lore.
I'm Indonesian and the mention of Buto Ijo made my face light up.
He's a green giant who comes from the story of Timun Mas, or '"gold cucumber." Buto Ijo helps a widow named Mbok Randa to have a child by conjuring a golden cucumber, which when cut open, revealed a baby girl. The catch was that when she turned 17, Mbok Randa would have to marry her daughter back off to Buto Ijo, to which she agreed.
They grew close over those 17 years, and Mbok Randa started to regret her deal. So, a few days before Timun's 17th birthday, she decided to visit a wise and holy man on a nearby mountain who gave her 4 bags with magical items that would help her. They contained cucumber seeds, needles, salt, and shrimp paste (random, I know). She gave the bags to Timun Mas and explained everything.
When Buto Ijo returned, Timun already had a plan. She escaped from the back door of their house, and the giant was furious. Timun threw the seeds behind her and they instantly grew into full-sized cucumbers. The greedy Buto Ijo ate them all and gave her time to run away.
Buto now had more energy to run and started to catch up again, so Timun opened her bag of needles and threw them on the ground. They sprouted into prickly bamboo plants which scratched up the giant's legs and feet, causing him to bleed.
Timun used her third bag of sea salt, which made the ground turn into the ocean, and Buto Ijo, who was not a very good swimmer, almost drowned. But he still persisted.
He was catching up and Timun used her last bag, which contained the shrimp paste. It turned into a deep swamp of boiling mud. Buto Ijo, full, bleeding, and exhausted, sunk into the mud and the cucumber field, bamboo forest, ocean, and swamp disappeared together. Timun Mas hurried home and celebrated her victory with her mother, where they lived happily ever after.
(I spent so long writing this comment, i hope you at least enjoyed it 🥲)
that’s so interesting, thanks for sharing!
Oh darn, that's cool
Oh that's interesting!! :o
Is there anything with the cat?
I enjoyed it. 🍻
Thank you. We're always inundated with myths/stories from east Asia, Rome, and Greece. It's so refreshing to hear one from somewhere else.
Fun fact: Jar-Jar was actually supposed to die in The Phantom Menace's original script(and by means of a waterfall as well, coincidentally), and they even went so far as to shoot, animate, and finalize the shot before scrapping it.
That scene was edited no?
@@SCA84 yes and no?
The scene Psyrus is talking about is a deleted scene where the ship they rode to the palace falls off a waterfall after Quigon and Obi-Wan jump out. The edit is just to add Jar Jar lines that make it seem like he's still in the ship
Too bad he didn't die :(
Should've done it. Would've taken that annoying fan theory with him.
a lot of people seem to hate jar jar and cant say i know why, he is absolutely one of the best parts of the prequels for me
the dreadout one seems to me like unfinished DLC, planned for release or cancelled.
i've played a few games where going out of bounds will take you to DLC areas that are pretty much all there but have AI and such missing. sleeping dogs is a good example of this as you can travel to a DLC island if you try hard enough but once you get there it's pretty hollow.
TBF though the Dreadout one feels awfully elaborate for cut DLC unless the game is really recent. It's really cool finding stuff like that though TBF.
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective it is fairly recent, it came out feb 2020 (holy fuck it doesn't feel that long though). i don't really see how that contributes to it being a potential cut/unfinished area/DLC though. it's cool regardless.
Mexico in rdr2 is another good example
I remember clipping into DLC areas in Destiny 1 before they came out, good times!
@@Gabe_Sage Wait "mexico"? You can go to mexico in RDR2 potenially?
dude seeing the timesplitters easter egg fully discovered is such an unbelievable payoff for following this channel for this long lmao
Time splitters 2 on Homefront is amazing . There's only a few games like this in history. Tomato girl and chibi Carol are also very cool .
Yeah, thats cool. Now im going to play Homefront just to play whole TS 2. Game inception
I like oddheader. Like every other video im like "WTF IS THAT!?" and I like the way he presents the info, It all feels spooky and fun.
in my case this genuinely the only youtuber who digs into creepy video game stuff i can watch no prob without cringing lol.
I love that he always shows new stuff too. Most other "creepy/undiscovered" videos just repeat the same things over and over. Oddheader is the only one who shows stuff I have never seen before and he does so consistently. It's awesome :D
the butterfly-explosion could be to reduce system resource use and prevent it crashing
Cosmogramma is a masterpiece
It is to show the devs when the game is lagging.
Cassandra's return as the LEGIT tomato girl completely broke me up, lol
6:23 HAAAH "Oh shiiiiit, didn't know it was on the 3DO version, that's wild! Anyways, here's the code for the MS-DOS version, have fun!!" 💀💀💀
10:29 The origin of La Brava
1:05 nah that title belongs to rey
Dreadout 1: Pig ghost or something
Dreadout 2: Horrifying ghost monster hidden under a dev test room
13:55 The Road To Eldorado PS game had a similar looking screen which suddenly opened once to me. It annoyed me greatly, because I didn't save for a while and had to restart the PS. I don't remember much details.
I suspected some kind of debug info.
The butterflies in halo were probably a particle effect for achieving a certain amount of chaos, similarly to how you can get the party effect for grunt headshots?
10:39 eh? So was the real tomato girl dancing a real person? I thought it was a GIF you found this whole time 😅
When I saw "Five Nights At Freddy's" I got chills. FNAF is one of my favorite games and I thought no other easter eggs would be found in older games. But, it's Scott Cawthon. What should I expect?
Shoutouts to CycloneJoker for having the best handle in this episode, Sho and Philip are very good boys.
Does Homefront: The Revolution's version of TimeSplitters 2 include multiplayer, coop, or bot matches? If not, that's a *huge* reason to buy a separate HD Remaster.
Even if it's only the single player campaign, I do not regret my $2 purchase
13:15 WAIT! I REMEMBER BACK IN 2018-2019!
I once saw a post on an xbox fnaf club pointing out the easter egg, though they said it was done by being afk in that area for the time, and it would activate automatically.
I’m pretty sure the jar jar in a barrel was a reference to the lady who fell down Niagara falls for “science?” In a barrel and survived. She came out unharmed except for being shaken up and even had two cats with her! (She snuck them in lol)
This one might be due to ZSnesW being a shitty emulator, but I've never heard anyone talk about it, so here it goes: In SMW2: Yoshi's Island, on the level called "Poochy Ain't Stupid", i remember one time as I crossed the goal ring, the yoshi who's supposed to receive baby Mario didn't grab him for whatever reason, the sprite of the baby slided across the floor to the left eventually sinking in the lava pit while loud dial-up internet noises were playing. This only happened once in my multiple playthroughs of the game, and I was never able to replicate it, neither on emulator nor official hardware.
Note: The Sister location easteregg is actually a debug mode that looks at various bits of the game's values. It was supposed to be cut out before shipping. Recommended use a Hex editor and check the values that stick to find what objects it modifies.
Found your channel couple weeks ago and already binge watched all your videos! It's really excelent work, glad to finally catch a new one
The Rayman 3 easter egg was cool! It's a simple filter but I loved this game as a child on PS2 and have it on Xbox 360 too so it's always cool to see new things from this game!
As I'm making Ps2 fan box art for my own game I hear Oddheader mention Treasure, the first thing that comes to mind is Dynamite headdy. As per my usual, I read everything on the section in the magazine, as he gets a close up for Mcdonalds teasure land adventure, I keep reading, and I see the small text that says "If you're reading this you just found an oddheader easter egg" in the bottom right corner (4:04) and it's a missed reference to say "you've got a secret bonus point!" Like Beau does in Dynamite Headdy. Still cool!
Best way to end the year.
It may be worth pointing out that rather than throwing both the Fatal Frame series and Dreadout series under the banner of "Eastern", Fatal Frame is a Japanese series whereas Dreadout is Indonesian. Even though FF obviously inspired and influenced the other, the flavor of horror and kinds of ghosts aren't the same.
I am from indonesia myself. never imagine dreadout would make to this list. awesome stuff as always man
There's something kind of sus at 5:40
@user-ng6bb4ll4j sounds like a sus talk to me
I'm pretty sure that Halo 3 one is a cut skull effect. Given similar effects like Grunt Birthday shooting confetti for when you headshot a grunt, I'm gonna guess they originally had a skull planned to shoot out butterflies if you created enough carnage.
A 19 min oddheader video? Now THATS a christmas present!
I’ve seen one or two other people say this, but I swear I remember seeing that Jar Jar easter egg before. I’m not sure if it was in a book or on an old website, but I definitely saw it. I was pretty weirded out when it popped up in this video because I was thinking it was well known
what a way to end the year than with a good few mysteries
With how big a game FNAF is, I thought it'd be just a minor find. But that's really cool
I was just watching older videos wondering when it was time for a new upload. Love the work oddheader. I get pretty creeper out watching these which being an adult Is hard for videos to do. Congratulations for having such an amazing and interesting channel
When I wrote this I was addicted to fentenayl and meth. Now I'm going on a year clean this August. I love finding old comments like this
"Former hamburger representative Ronald McDonald" gets me every time.
FNaF Sister Location: has another secret that might make more questions than answers
Matpat, already sobbing on SB and the books: NO GOD PLEASE NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Surprised fnaf was included. Thought they were already all skimmed clean. Can't wait for dawko to stay up all night working on it.
Damn that Dreadout game looks like the kind of game that makes horror fans reevaluate their interest in horror. The game looks scary as fuck is what I'm saying. Oddheader had to throw in that bit of humor to make us less scared of that horrifying scrapped boss.
Dreadout is pretty damn spooky, it really nails atmosphere too
Man I love your videos because seeing this hidden mysteries solved is just so satisfying.
This guys channel is straight out of the old school yt days and I absolutely love it
We need to find the Secret in Halo 3 ODST, here's a little insight: So there is in halo 3 ODST, only 4 developers (confirmed by Marty O'Donnell) know of in the game hints from the engineers' glyphs, posible Morse code, and bunch of stuff and i mean alot its covered by people like Rocket Sloth
I don't know why I'm thinking about this but the starwars easter egg might be based off of a lady and a kitten who put themselves in a barrel and literally made it fall in a famous lake (I forgot the name) and made it alive
Well matpat is gonna have another sleepless night trying to figure out that fnaf secret
I dont know why, but the way you did voiceover 7:54 - 8:01 fit with the beat and sounded sick to me
Avalanche Studios said there was an unfound Easter egg in Mad Max referring Sweden. They said it about 1-2 years ago but it was on a really small stream and I doubt it got recorded. I mean the stream exists on UA-cam but I doubt anyone noticed. I post here cuz I don't know where else
Jar Jar, he's your favorite character or you hate him with your guts
That Christian Slater joke fucking sent me lol
Good job Oddheader!
Who's that live action Tomato girl? For science...
I think Odd talked about that in the first video
“Sooner rather than slater “ 😆👍🏼
"Sooner Rather Than Slater" wins joke of the year.
that was an impressive sooner than slater pun set-up right there
Thank goodness for the Dark Judgement discovery.
Frankenstein is the name of the developer so I guess that's a reference to them.
Not an Easter egg or a mystery but a shout-out to the Boba Skip too, that was insane
Oddheader’s jawline gets sharper every year
After inflating my UA-cam history with _FNaF: Security Breach_ gameplays and videos since the game's launch, 12:32 felt comically unsettling to me.
_THEY'RE CHASING MEEEEEEEE!_
Found your channel years ago when I was still in elementary and I am so happy i found You again thanks for the good memories.
That slater joke was amazing. Subscribed.
The skull after crashing reminded me of F22 Interceptor game over screen
Thats Buto ijo thing give me ghostbump
The halo 3 one you could probably just load up beta tags and look into either a map script or look at the particles assigned to the warthog and comb through that
In Bionicle heroes for the Wii I found a place you can clip out of the map, but I wasn't using hacks so I couldn't explore further. But I saw most of the map layout which was cool
Wow I've never actually seen Christian Slater before Mr Robot, so weird to see him so young
I don't know if it's has been said but for that werid screen in fnaf sl there is a hidden code that can be heard if slowed down and pitch that is different from the one for the keypad
I will say this, I never expected A FNAF Segment in this video... mainly cause FNAF: Security Breach just came out XD
Dang, even to this day people still find new things, thanks for sharing
At 1st glance, I thought the thing on the thumbnail was a giant dog's head. Like some kind of weird mastiff. I had to stare at that for like 15 seconds uninterrupted uninterrupted before I realized it was somebody with their mouth gaping open upside down.
The halo particle effect might be referencing the "under the dome" reference to Monarch butterflies.
12:32
well Matpat sweating right now
And the multiplayer on the front revolution was absolutely awesome and insane. It was like battlefield
_Former Hamburger Representative: Ronald McDonald_
I cannot grab my sides, as they are, in orbit.
Timesplitters 2 HD in Homefront? Finally I knew that game is worth something after all.
Aww one of my favorite UA-camrs sponsored by one of my favorite games, congrats man :)
Is it you? Ron Weasley???`0:01
Sry ``
amazing vid as usual, thanks so much for your hard work. hoping for a prosperous year in 2022
My favourite UA-camr of 2021, can't wait for another year of great videos!
Unfortunately, Scott Cawthon (FNAF creator) retired a few months ago, so no answer until he feels like coming back (jerk 😂)
Someone get MatPat on it!
Fatal Frame is a game I haven't heard of in a long while. The memories.
That's pretty dope. A full game in another game. Pretty genius
Bro why do you gotta haunt my peripheral vision like that. I’m deeply hurt
The best boxing day present ,a new oddheader video
Bro legit got a genshin impact sponsor. Some people would kill for that
At long last, the king returns
00:55 I guess you could call him 'jar jar jar binks'...I'll see myself out
The FNAF Sister Location "easter egg" seems like a debug menu to me. My guess is the numbers indicate things like FPS count, amounts of entities, current values of variables related to enemy behaviors, and other such numbers that are helpful to display and track when testing the game, especially when trying to figure out bugs or issues.
Christian Slater was in the 1989 classic video game movie " The Wizard" I am guessing this is the reference.
Commenting because I just spent the last few weeks catching up on Oddheaders entire video log.
And here I am, caught up.
Waiting for the next video…
I thought tomato girl would've been able to throw tomatoes, now I feel sad that isn't true
I really enjoyed the prequels because I always wanted to know how it all started.. How Annakin turned evil. It was a gradual turn to the dark side which U thought was pretty well done..
I’m ngl in the thumbnail why did I think it looked like a giant dog for a second 😂
I might have to actually buy Homefront now just to play the Timesplitters remaster.
McDonalds game looks exactly like ToeJam & Earl panic on funkatron 🤣
10:19 I think how someone was supposed to find that was that codes with the d-pad where really popular during the time
It’s weird Penn and Teller didn’t give their endorsement, it’s pretty on character for them
Wouldn't Ronald throwing hamburgers the entire game make children subconsciously more fixated on hamburgers and make the mcdonalds marketing more effective? Bizarre decision to be sure
The mention of Heathers in an oddheader video. Never thought Id hear the day.
