  • I decided to dub this hat “Queen Bee-nie” due to the way the beautiful stitch pattern reminds me of a honeycomb. It is very simple in concept, but a little challenging when working in the posts. I have labeled it intermediate, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be “buzzing” through it in no time!
For an ad-free printable pdf of this pattern, you can find it for relatively little cost in both my Etsy and Ravelry shops at linktr.ee/days.... You can also find it on my blog at daysck.com/cro....
Please note that you do not have my permission to sell, illegally share, translate, copy, or duplicate this pattern or my photos in any way. Please do not use this pattern for a video, blog, or class tutorial. Thank you so much for following these simple rules! Please message me on Facebook or send me an email at dayscrochetnc@gmail.com with any questions.
    Supplies Needed:
-130 -160 yds of any chunky weight yarn (size 5)
-Size L 8.0 mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
    -Tape measure, scissors, yarn needle
-Faux fur pom pom (I prefer to use these: amzn.to/3APd69a )
-Wooden button with care instructions engraved on them (I get them from ‪@angieandbritt‬ at www.angieandbr... )
    Gauge:
I did not use a gauge swatch for this hat since we will be checking the diameter after only Round 4. It is VERY important to adjust your hook size and begin your hat again if your measurements do not equal mine. I crochet very loosely, and have found most people crochet more tightly than I do.
    Finished Measurements:
Hat should fit an adult head size, ranging approximately 20-24” (51-61 cm) in circumference and approximately 9” (23 cm) in length.

I made this beanie and it came out lovely. I substituted the yarn with 1 strand of dk and 1 strand of Hayfield aran as I didn't have any chunky yarn. I used a 7mm hook and changed to a 6mm hook for the crab stitch around the brim The only thing I would do differently if using the same substituted yarn would be to leave out one row of sc around the brim. 🙂

i love the tutorial, you speak very clearly which is helpful. but I'm sorta a beginner still learning these more skillful techniques, so something that may help someone like me is using a different background. the white table and the white yarn makes it sorta difficult to see which stitch you are going into, especially when making the diamonds. but I love the video and I'm working on a Christmas hat with it :)

Thank you for that feedback! I will definitely take that into consideration in the future. I also have another few videos where I show the Diamond stitch with a different yarn. It’s one if my very first videos, so they aren’t the best, but they do show the stitches much better. Let me see if I can find it and link it for you☺️

Ok so here is a different yarn and color using the front post treble 2 together that creates the “points” of the hat: ua-cam.com/video/mj47T_lcT_Q/v-deo.html

Lovely hat! For those of you using a smaller yarn, a larger hook or just need one more row for a bigger head/a lot of hair, I've done a bit of playing around.
    Round 5: incr 1 every 4 (2, 1, 1, 1) until the end; you'll increase 12 times.
Round 6: 3hdc, then fpdouble treble (yarn over 3 times) or fptriple treble (yarn over 4 times, if you want it looser) 2 together, 4hdc until the last stitch; hdc in the last stitch.
    Round 7: dc all around
From here, you can follow the rest of the video. Just keep in mind that whenever she says to do 3hdc, you're actually going to do *4hdc* due to the extra round, and the rounds of all hdc will be dc instead.
*OR* If you find that the fpdtr2tog or fpttr2tog is too large, make don't do any fpdc in Round 3, just do the increases as normal (2,1,2,1,etc.); instead, you're going to do a fpdc once every 3 stitches (2hdc, 1hdc, 1fpdc) in Round 4, then continue along as normal with the remainder of the video.
    I hope this helps!

I love the pics of this hat but I have now tried the pattern following the counts exactly, with THREE different sized yarns (started with 8 hook 5 bulky yarn) and even regular light worsted, I cant make it stop rippling. It curls so much, and my counts are right... I dont know how to fix this its so upsetting. I want to just drop stitches because it feels likes its just to many but I know it would really mess it up. Going to try one more time and if that doesnt work I quit. Im really struggling and need a crocheting win. :(

Should I drop stitches to begin sinching it into shape?

I have done a pattern for a cowl, but you definitely could do a scarf using the same pattern concept. If a cowl is acceptable, it is listed in the Queen Bee Set, along with ear warmers and wrist warmers to match.
