- The Misty Beanie is cozy crochet hat! It is easy to work and because it is made with a bulky weight yarn, it works up quick!

Skill Level: Intermediate
Gauge: sts x rows = 4 inches
Finished Size: 9 x 9.5 inches laid flat excluding pompom
Yarn: Caron® Swirl Cakes by Yarnspirations (77% Acrylic, 23% wool; 8 oz, 227 g; Approx. 252 yds, 230 m). Bulky Weight (5). You will need 1/2 cake/hat. Colour Shown: Cookies and Cream.
Hook: Size L/11 (8 mm) Hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge

This is an amazing pattern. I didn’t have a chunky yarn so I used two strands of a #4 yarns in a misty blue. I’m older and don’t like how hats look on me but this chunky hat is great. I will definitely be making more for gifts. Being shut in at this uncertain time gave me a big boost for my mental health. Thank you for a great pattern!

Nice hat! I love the look of half double crochet third loop in a hat. The brim looks fantastic by the way. It's what caught my eye first thing.

Are the front post stitches supposed to stack or offset each other?
In the written pattern, I think maybe row 10-11 doesn’t mention using the third loop for hdc and my beanie came out “wrong”. I’m afraid to unravel it because I used wool but I mean, still looks like a hat just missing that third set of horizontal rows. I ended up with about 52 stitches in the round and questionable joins. I find it difficult to space the stitches evenly when working brim-up even though the finished look is quite nice.

Is this for a kid cause I tried to fit it on my head and 16 inches is way to small? A normal adult head is between 19 and 21?
I would ensure that you are using a bulky weight yarn and that you have the proper gauge. The finished measurements are 21/22 inches for the circumference

Mine I feel turned out bigger than yours...
I think I use my yarn loose that's why..
Mine turned out fine around the brim, but adding 50 hdc stitches and working off those made it flare out greatly instead of gently slope inwards towards a cone-like shape. So I ended up with a beret. Disappointed. So I tried again. Undid it all, started over. Same result. Doubly disappointed.

@@deek6913 yup. I mean I didn't start the decreases until the video told me to. If I ever did it again (doubtful) I'd start the decreases much sooner. Maybe even immediately after the brim, by just one stich per row until I got higher up, then catch up to the prescribed amount of decreases.
How come they never tell you what size hooks to use for different sized hats?
Because the size of the hook is related to the thickness of the yard. It doesn’t change. You change the size of the hat by using more or fewer stitches.

At 12:00 mark,it looks like you skipped a stitch, and it's making me confused.
I had trouble right after creating the brim. I could not find what loops you were referring to join the edges . therefore could not complete. I was very frustrated!!!!!! I hate when I waste my time.

I feel your pain. Let me tell you that, when it comes to crocheting into a brim of a hat, stitch markers are a must! After you complete every other row of your brim, add a stitch marker. That way, when you're done with the brim and need to start on the main part of the hat, you will know which stitch to consistently crochet into.
And when you finish a row of the brim that you're gonna put the stitch marker in, make sure that you crochet a little looser on the last stich since that is the stitch where the stitch marker goes and that you will crochet into after the brim is done. Hope that's not too confusing.
