  • I designed this extra squishy hat especially for super bulky weight yarns. It makes a great market prep hat because it uses very little yardage and works up in under an hour. The use of stitches in the back loop only cause the hat to have a tremendous amount of stretch, making it fit a large variety of heads. It has been a best-seller for my vendor markets, and I hope you have the same success!

Please do not use this pattern for a video, blog, or class tutorial. Thank you so much for following these simple rules! Please message me on Facebook or send me an email at dayscrochetnc@gmail.com with any questions.
    Supplies needed:
    -At least 81 yds of any brand size 6 super chunky yarn (I recommend using Lion Brand’s Hometown USA or Wool Ease Thick and Quick for these hats. You could also use 3 strands of worsted weight #4 yarn held together for this hat, but be sure you crochet more loosely or go up to a size 10.0 mm hook size. It tends to be a tighter fit. This technique has been great for those who wanted team colors in this hat.)
    If you need supplies it would help me greatly if you used my affiliate links below.
    Lion Brand Hometown USA: shrsl.com/2evgz
    Lion Brand Wool Ease: shrsl.com/2evgu
    -An N sized 9.0 mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge: amzn.to/2CYyyzR
    -Hair elastic (Optional. I use the thicker Goody Ouch less brand) amzn.to/2D3VfTl
    -scissors amzn.to/3eUlvxp
    -tape measure amzn.to/3eSUjzl
    - yarn needle amzn.to/3goqVB1
    -Any embellishments you would like
    Here is the link to the awesome pom buttons that I used. This is not an affiliate link I just think they are amazing and you should buy them: www.angieandbr...
    Gauge: Hat should measure 6” (15 cm) in diameter after completing rounds 1-3. Gauge is approximate.
    Finished Measurements:
    Finished hat should measured approximately 21”-24” (53-61 cm) in circumference and 9” 23 cm) in length. The circumference has a wide range due to the stitches being placed in the back loops only.

    I lost my favorite hat and decided it was time to make a new one. This time I wanted something warm, squishy, and looked good with or without a pompom. This hat is it! I love it! I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. I added one extra row before the brim because I have a tall head and want to cover my ears, and then instead of the BLO SC I used 3 rows of hdc in the 3rd loop for the brim because I really like the way it looks. It turned out great. The instructions were easy to follow and I love my new hat! Next time I'll use less fuzzy yarn so the stitch definition stands out even more!

      @@DaysCrochet it's the beanie version. Round 1 is just done with the magic circle instead of the chain 9 then doing the circle like you do. Mostly it's round 2. It doesn't specify doing the HDC in the BLO. That doesn't start until round 3. I could be reading it wrong (as I am somewhat new to crochet) so I thought I would ask.

    Do you have a stitch count suggestion/modifications to make these in a size 5 Bulky weight yarn?

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  7 місяців тому

      I don't have the stitch counts, but you could realistically follow the pattern concept and shoot for measurements. I have a video explaining how to do this if you're interested:

      @@DaysCrochet I understand that you don't have a specific stitch count for the #5 yarn weight, but do you have a stitch multiple for the fpdc rounds so I can alter it to the new yarn size? Like the rounds have to be a multiple of say 4 for example?

      @DaysCrochet  Місяць тому

      @@justagramma I have actually started to just cut a length of yarn (about 6-8 inches or so) and tie that into the elastic instead. It seems to be easier to get that inside the hat than the ribbon. If you watch the most recent hat pattern tutorial, I show how I do it now towards the end. 😁

    • @DaysCrochet

      You could go down a hook size or do fewer rounds. There really isn’t a huge discrepancy between a 6 yr old and an adult sized head, believe it or not! ☺️

    I've been having trouble make this hat with Hometown super bulky weight 6 and 81 yards. Mine have been coming out matching number of stitches but I'm still ending up at 5" for the 3rd round in diameter. I'm not sure what's going wrong. I've tried to make this hat several times now.

    I absolutely love this tutorial and can’t wait to try!! I’ve been crocheting for a while but I’m still not super fluent, if I wanted to use 2 colors for this hat where should I switch yarns?

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  2 роки тому

      You could just switch colors every round. That would be pretty. Or you could carry both yarns throughout the entire hat and switch colors for your post stitches. Does that make sense?

    Did I do something wrong? It is most definitely not big enough to fit in my head Or my husband's! 😭 I've had a rough couple of days

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  2 роки тому

      I’m so sorry 😞 My guess would be your tension is too tight. Did you reach my gauge? That’s really important. But if you don’t want to scrap your hat and start over, what I would do is add more rounds until it’s long enough. The material should be really stretchy since you are working in the back loops of your stitches. Maybe try that or go up 2-3 hook sizes. I hope your day gets better 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

      I’ve actually gotten lazier and smarter since this video😂 I now tie a piece if yarn around it that’s about 5-6" long and knot the ends together near the bottom. Then the knot/yarn is easier to grab and pull through the top of the hat than a short piece of ribbon.

    • @DaysCrochet

      Definitely would go up at least to a 10.0 mm if you crochet tightly. I crochet very loosely, and I usually have to go down 2 hook sizes to meet other designer’s gauge swatches. Lol
