I'm not a blacksmith, bladesmith, or metal worker of any kind. Yet I keep watching this channel. I just like seeing this guy work. His soft voice while narrating is very relaxing!
Looks good, Tim. Yes, it's your old friend back watching your videos again. But so you know, I wasn't watching any videos. I am almost ready to build my own tire hammer and my own press. So, yes, I rewatched your videos on the building of yours. Not sure when they will be done, but I will send you some pictures when they are. Take care my friend. Can't wait to see the knife you make from this.
Again I really enjoyed your video to what you took scrap metal steel and you reborn it into absolutely amazing knife blank I always enjoyed all your videos sending best wishes from Scotland 🏴 😀👍
Again absolutely amazing as what was scrap metal steel you’ve reborn to make a knife blank really enjoyed your videos as I always do sending best wishes from Scotland 🏴 👍
I've never seen anyone do braided damascus before, this is crazy good. Loving your videos man, I like the way you actually describe every process as you do it and why you do so, it's very educational. Thanks!
Always impressive Tim! You are a true inspiration, Sir! Now that I have my milling machine I have got to get started on making a surface grinder, thank goodness I can watch your series about making it, they are very informative!
This was a great video. The fact that you went back and narrated it was very nice! So many times I see videos of either silence, music or Gordo sounds. This was very informative! Thank you
Hey bud very nice work. Your attention to detail is amazing and it shows. Great job and I am subscribing to your Channel and I can’t wait to see your other projects
John Coffee, Crawford here. In a comment above Wade Wilson was asking if anyone had any wrought or knew where he could get some. I suggested he look you up as I feel you can point him in a good direction. 🙏 blessed days sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️ P.s. hope you dont mind too much
Beautiful work as always. Cant wait till I can get back to my forge! I learn alot from you. Thanks ! Going to be a long 8 months of waiting to heat some steel Till them I'll just keep enjoying your videos as always!
Wow Mr. Tim. That was an ambitious move w the braided and the choice of steel. Of course you pulled it off like a super hero big dog on the block...just as we knew you would 👏👏👍😁 Never seen anyone braid then form into Damascus. Learned something new thank you for sharing brother. Take care of yourself in the middle of that virus zone!! Cuz I'm going to need to see you in September ya know. 🙏God bless you all now Crawford out 🧙♂️
Thanks for another informative and enjoyable video, always a learning experience, looking forward to seeing what you make out of this billet, I am sure it will be worthwhile.
Actually an interesting pattern...almost like wood or a flame...depending on orientation...I can imagine taing that a step further with it squared up by doing a twist...think that would be interesting as well....
You have the technology you can rebuild it the delamination...channelling the Six Million Dollar Man there, it does look good...turned out great, love the pattern.😃
Awesome Tim, I finally got a milk crate of two different kinds of inch and a quarter Crable cut up for you when you get close to South Olympia let me know awesome brother🔥🛠👍✌
Nice peace of Damascus Tim .I have a forge that I made out of a 9kg gas bottle and a forge kit from a blacksmiths supplies store .It's a single burner butt it gets forklift tine to forging temperature in no time at all. wood this be suitable to forge weld . PS say Hi to big dog and a big belly rub .
Huh. I thought delaminations was the devil. Nice work! I remember you said you were concerned when you squared things - they get a nip and weird distorted pattern on each corner. I watched Shupar and he has a different square module for his hyrdaulic press that he uses to flatten the sides of the billet before putting it in the "tooth" module. This was I noticed his squaring is almost completely without nipping. He uses it in almost every video, but if you wish, I could try and find the one I saw and link it.
@@BIGDOGFORGE I did not find the exact video I watched but this one shows the special attachment shurap uses, at 1:55 here ua-cam.com/video/ZrGJLunpHC4/v-deo.html to make the billet a rectangular shape and then he squares it off with those "tooth" attachments. VERY sorry for using all the wrong words but I'm Swedish and not a blacksmith, sorry.
Lot of work for a mild pattern, plus if this is for a knife, the wrought Iron, plus the amount of heat during the forge welding would reduce the carbon....not sure how high the content would be?
At the rite temp the scale becomes a non issue and its not captured between layer like in a knife billet the layers are round and push the scale to the sides as they flatten , kind of like forging welding motorcycle chain.
Love your content. Truly. Can I impose a question upon you? Have you ever tried, or had experience with a Davinci cam hammer? If you can't find the time to answer, I thank you either way. Respectfully, Bryan
I was just curious if a braided damascus, pineapple damascus, or square damascus pattern would still show up if the steel is used to make a knife or if the pattern would just be ground away and no longer be visible? Thanks for any thoughts or insight.
Absolutely LOVE the pattern.....I can see the W1 and the Spring steel...but the wrought iron? Would that not leave some soft spots if you were using it for a blade? Just asking....i know the braid looks cool, but if the wrought iron ended up on the "edge" not the spine you would have soft spots on the blade, no? or did I miss something here? I would have thought braid the W1 and Spring, then laminate on the spine with wrought iron since it is not able to be hardened? (or was it Tool steel, and you were calling it wrought iron?)
Not to be that guy. But ANYONE seeing this im in desperate need for some wrought iron. I mean i can't find anything within 100 miles. I live in the south so any old wrought iron wheels or other tools are "precious" yard art so i cant get my hands on it. Im making something for my nephew who is sick (not dying but having a rough few weeks) so ill buy any for decent price! Not looking for hand outs just making a tough little boy a cool knife.
Wade Wilson , Crawford here. I'm going to suggest you look up John Coffee, coffee's forge here on UA-cam. He will be your best bet for putting you onto a source that I can cone up with off the top of my head. Wouldn't you agree @Bid Dog Forging?
I have a piece but it's rather highly refined and just almost doesn't show anything in the etch. Old railroad tracks. Same as the piece I gave Roy Adams. I got it from Hans Groff, charming hollow forge.
I like how you explain everything as you go instead of a bunch of shop noises. Great video
I appreciate that!
This is extremely impressive, I've seen a lot of talented smith's but you're the first I've ever seen do this let alone get it right
I'm not a blacksmith, bladesmith, or metal worker of any kind. Yet I keep watching this channel. I just like seeing this guy work. His soft voice while narrating is very relaxing!
Cool experiment and thanks for sharing it with us

Very smart idea's used to forge.👍

Another great video Mr Tim. I could listen to you talk all day. You have such a calming tone in your voice.
Hello from Casper Wyoming. Tim you never stop amazing me. You give me so many ideas. Thank you.

Well dealt with that delamination. Nice solid billet👍👍👍
A great short video! Love the idea of the braid!!

The flux container is a big dog bowl, how appropriate.
Very nice

Very nice job sir!!!
Gahh !! Give Dog's dish back ya big meany lol , Pretty neat way to do a Damascus pattern.
I like the way you put your videos together. New subscriber👍
Badass wish I had half the talent and skill
You have the technology you can rebuild it the delamination...channelling the Six Million Dollar Man there, it does look good...turned out great, love the pattern.😃
Awesome Tim, I finally got a milk crate of two different kinds of inch and a quarter Crable cut up for you when you get close to South Olympia let me know awesome brother🔥🛠👍✌
Will do Thank you My Friend.
“Or-o-bore-us” armory... and I was thinking a braided “bacon” Bowie knife :)..
Was just going to say it looked like bacon once etched. Maybe a bacon handle like green beetle made haha.
I love it
Great job 🥳
Very neat!
I would have loved to see what it would have looked like if you turned the pieces at 90• so you can see the endgrain
Great video!
Good iop....thank you ..

Hi Douglas
you should have no problem welding.
Thanks for watching.
Nice pattern, subscribed
Thank you, take care and be safe.
I'm anxious to see how heat treat comes out. Wrought combined with water, and oil quench steels? I'm definitely intrigued.
Ive subscibe to you because you are one of the better smithies ibe seen on utub.
Its like a gray slice of bacon. :D
Cool vid big dog 😁👍

You can create anhydrous borax at home. Just precook your borax at anything above boiling for a few hours.
Cool thanks
I want to get into doing this so bad.
Nice videos
Thanks
Awesome looks a little bit like bacon!
That is what kaitlin said.
It shall be called Bacon Damascus..
Thanks for watching..
bacon damascus... delicous 😄
Very intérestin
Looks like sedimentary layers of rock.
Bacon Damascus!
Lot of work for a mild pattern, plus if this is for a knife, the wrought Iron, plus the amount of heat during the forge welding would reduce the carbon....not sure how high the content would be?
I see you adjusted your flux formula.
Hah, and 2 mins later you talked about it!
What about the scale in the voids? How do you get the welds set?
At the rite temp the scale becomes a non issue and its not captured between layer like in a knife billet the layers are round and push the scale to the sides as they flatten , kind of like forging welding motorcycle chain.
what sort of pattern do you think it would make if you cross cut the braid, stacked them with the cross cut for the pattern ?
I would call that " Bacon Damascus" because it Looks a lot like bacon. Why the iron powder? I'm curious.
Tim, got some really rusty cable from the scrap yard, any specific things I need to do to it before I put it in the fire?
Love your content. Truly.
Can I impose a question upon you?
Have you ever tried, or had experience with a Davinci cam hammer?

sorry I have never had the opportunity to use one.

Who makes the sliding magnetic surface grinder attachment that you use. I have been looking on Google and can't figure it out
If you can't braid your hair, you might as well braid steel.
Wisdom from Possum Lodge

That's why I added a piece of 1085 to the edge.
Thanks for watching.
Crushed and twisted w
👍👍👍👍
what flux are you using..?
Borax
is there another mix?
Mmmmm bacon damascus…
