How utterly refreshing to see chain damascus done without a canister, and to see the welds initially set by hand. Tim, this was worth the wait! This goes on my "do do" list right after I master your dirty damascus recipe! And thanks again for stepping in last Sunday.
Great work, sir, like always! It is my intention to try this next week with an old motorcycle chain, and I have a question for you. You seem to be closing gaps and voids with gentle hammering at welding heat throughout your billet forging. How about talking the chain under the log press and squeeze it on the sides before you weld the billet together? In that way there should be no voids by the time you start the proper forge-welding, am I right? I was wondering whether it would work or not... It should save you plenty of time, theoretically. Let me know what you think
Not really a torsion bar at the beginning. If you look at it you'll see an eyelet on the end, and that eyelet tells me it's an antisway bar/sway bar/antiroll bar depending on the local term you use in your area.
missed these videos, tim! and if you’re going to give away the other piece?? it would find a nice home in my shop! lol. if not, email me the price on it!
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a method to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Cash Cristiano i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Yes!!!! Finally new video!!! Awesome job brother! Side note I sent you an email about some damascus blanks if you get around to it let me know if I can buy a few from you brother
Hello my friend, I am late to the party. It been some time since I have seen you videos so I looked you up. Apparently I was not Subscribed anymore! Love the design. I got really excited seeing you use bicycle chain in it. How dies the torsion bar heat treat? Is it close to 1050? Love the contrast on the etch. Take care.
Can I request a continuation of the dirty Damascus series? I've had some huge chain rusting outside that would be neat to use. Either way great work as always, nice to see you back!
@@BIGDOGFORGE excellent, definitely look forward to it. got an email for public contact? ill shoot you a pic of the chain and if you think it can be useful ill send it your way.
Why do you put iron powder in your flux? I am just starting and trying to understand the purpose/ reasoning behind it. Love the look of this Damascus. Great job Tim.
Glad to see you back putting videos You're been missed!!! I'd love to have that and make a knife out of it but who wouldn't that watches you lol It is beautiful but we already knew it would be Enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
When are you going to make a stack of those and sell some to people like me. I don’t have a forge or blacksmith shop. But I have been a welder/iron worker for about twenty years now. I’d love to turn one of those billets into a EDC blade
That's a really nice pattern, how do you clean the chain, since I'm assuming the less crud in there the better? I've been thinking of trying something like this but I have some old roller chain thats definitely in worse shape then what you used
I vote you have a competition with green beatle, alex steel, or someone else... or everyone at once! You each send something metal to each other and make something cool out of it. Everything is auctioned off to charity and the winner gets to decide the charity! My random thoughts...
Glad to see yer back at it Tim I to took some time off from the forge it was just too hot and I don't do well when it gets over 85 degrees but the weather has gotten cooler and I am hitting it hard. Again glad to see yer back looking forward to seeing new stuff on your channel. Stay safe Tim
That's awesome I started making knives a few months ago so far I have made 8 I'm using a wood forge and hand hammering I wish I had the right tools to make knives
Why does Welds need to be removed from pattern welded blades. I haven't forged anything yet but I have plans on building a forge and me and my sons are going to try and learn how to
The man is an old time biker,,,,,,, respect!,,
So happy to see you back at work in your smithy Tim!!!
Thank you kindly

6:00 It sounds a lot like Shurap's flux recipe, maybe that was the source?
Welcome back glad Rona didn't get yea

How can I get a custom job done by you? I can't seem to find a blade Smith that actually wants to do work.
What is the edge on it?
missed these videos, tim! and if you’re going to give away the other piece?? it would find a nice home in my shop! lol. if not, email me the price on it!

I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen anything from you in a while. Good to see you're ok. 😀👍
I like watching your channel, you explain things as you do them instead of talking for an hour before you get to work.
I appreciate that!
Missed you Tim!
Are you in Washington? Seaside, Oregon here!

Great to see you Sir! Great looking billet. The pattern is gorgeous! ❤️👍⚒️🍺😀
Good to see you back. I check in regularly but you're right, summer is filled with lots of things to get done. Time to change gears!

Very cool pattern Tim, is Shurap the smith you couldn't remember?
I have always wondered about using chain ad you can’t clean it.
Did you do any prep with the chain?
Great to see you again
I thought for sure you'd make your damascus billet first then put the high carbon bit on there.
Is that a piccolo snare drum hanging behind you?
Its a Banjo
Ok, that was my other thought, I couldn't tell of that was the neck our just a piece of wood behind it
thank you tim for another great video and sooo nice to have you back in to my life :) ive been watching old videos whole summer haha
What's in the borax concoction?
Borax, iron powder? Charcoal?
That's awesome I started making knives a few months ago so far I have made 8 I'm using a wood forge and hand hammering I wish I had the right tools to make knives
Glad to see you back at it tim hope you had a good summer and all is well. Can't wait to see some new projects.
