I just want to say thank you for this video🙌🏽. My carpet in my apartment is horrible from wear and tear over the 5+ yrs of living here and I’m so tired of shampooing it. This is a inexpensive and great way of getting a new look in my home. I will be purchasing my supplies soon and starting this project.❤️❤️ Thank u🙏🏽 Thank you ☺️
You are genius. I was just sitting here trying to figure out how to cover my carpet in my rental since my landlord is taking a while to replace it. And you came up with an amazing idea and way of doing so. I have a one year old who plays on the floor a lot and drops food and spills as well. And this would make it so easy to clean up and remove when I decide to move out. I'm heading over to Amazon and Lowe's and checking prices on the flooring and poster boards. Thank you for this great way to transition my home.
Can’t imagine this lasts long. I’d imagine it’s going to flex when you step on it and eventually lead to cracks/breaks. As much as I’d like to do this in my apartment(because I hate the carpet in here). I’d imagine I’d only be happy with doing this up until the inevitable cracking/breaking of the new floor
I would imagine one good run in that room for whatever reason i.e rushing ro get dressed and the floor would shift causing you to hurt yourself. creative ideal tho.
Orrrr get that plastic they use for wen u paint and put down staple that down but pull it very tightly over floor instead of getting all that poster board orrr use card board boxes (free)very flatly
I've had mixed results. I used cheap peel and stick vinyl from Walmart in one room and higher quality from Home Depot in the other. The home depot has cracked from foot traffic, the Walmart tolerates furniture being moved on it and has no cracks. The technique works, but thinner more flexible tile seems to be the best.
I've been thinking about getting that plastic mat stuff for office chairs that has the sharp teeth on the underside, then poster board then the wood vinyl stuff to avoid the carpet plush push down whenever you walk on it....gonna be expensive tho but I still wanna try it.
ONE ADDED TIP - Thank you very much for posting the helpful video! Just one tip to add - STAGGER THE PLANKS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Rather than laying the planks in a straight "square" or "rectangle", with all the planks ending in a straight line OR using the SAME random pattern throughout the installation (giving the final result a "stair step" or "H" pattern), randomize the layout (stagger the plank) as much as you can (unless you want a repeated pattern, of course). Staggering the planks will do three things: -- #1) Give the final structure of the installation more strength; #2) Give the final result a professional look; #3) Prevent the long straight-line seams that are formed in square or rectangle layouts from catching dirt over time, making them more noticeable. The labor itself won't be anymore difficult, it will just take a little more time in planning. There are many websites that give instructions on how to accomplish a totally randomized installation/layout. (Google "stagger vinyl plank flooring".)

Hello, I just came across your peel & stick tile in the bedroom. Had a question: Does it make a hollow / crinkle / crunchy sound when you walk across it??
Hey! No, no sounds. This DIY only works on a really low carpet so it sits relatively flat to the ground. That’s an issue you would have if the carpet is too thick.
This is amazing! Thank you! We just bought a house… but it’s way too expensive to redo every room. An easy and cheap way to remodel until we can afford something else!

Hi! No, this DIY would only work for a very low pile carpet. If the carpet is thicker or too high, the peel and stick tile will not sit flat or feel firm when walking on it.
How does it feel when you step on it? Does it feel like normal laminate or is there a “give” I’m thinking of doing this to my studio where I will have a rolly chair. Do you think it could sink into the cracks? It is such a great idea and I want to start!
Hey love! Overall, it’s pretty solid. This DIY only works on a very low carpet. If it’s too high or plush, the tile won’t sit flat or feel firm when walking
Any updates on how this has been holding? I am moving out to a new apartment and don't want the carpet and I am thinking of doing this, but I'm a bit iffy since I don't know if it has held well or caused any damage.
Hi! I had this on for about six months before moving out and overall it held up pretty good. This DIY would only work on a very low pile carpet. If it’s too thick or high, the tile won’t sit flat and feel firm. Also, in regards to moisture, yes, you have to be careful. I vacuumed and use a swiffer with wet wipes to clean and that’s fine.
Always wonder if this affects the opening and closing of any door that opens over it. It would surely raise the level so that the door would catch on it unless there was a big gap under the door before.
I’m gonna try this. Been living in my apt 8 years and I am SO DONE with the carpet. It’s old and ugly and I do not have time to carpet clean and constantly waiting for it to dry. OVER IT lol! Great idea!
this should work for hardwood floor as well right? (it won’t bend or slip when walking on top right?) i want to do peel & stick flooring but don’t wanna damage the hardwood floor underneath.
Hi! Yes it works even better on hardwood floor. There are a few tutorials on my page. I would recommend using the white poster paper in between the floor and peel and stick tile to avoid any potential damage or residue
Do not do the project like this. Think about it. The poster board is very bendy and thin. Lay that on top of any carpet especially medium to high pile carpet. Will simply not support the weight of a person walking over it. This will create a lot of movement thick like memory foam your weight will sink into the carpet underneath. You need 5 - 10 mm thick hard plywood NOT poster board on top of the carpet.
Hey! Overall its pretty solid, but not 100% like real hardwood. This is a quick & budget friendly solution for people renting or those who want to avoid installing real hardwood floors.
@@stefanjefferson73 Hey! This is a quick & budget friendly solution for people renting or those who want to avoid installing real hardwood floors. If that isn't your goal, this isn't the video for you.
@@IdaAlexis please don't take offense you've done a nice presented video showing a budget friendly way. I'm simply answering the question asked. If they do like this they will be redoing it a couple of years later. The more it's walked on the more indentations will appear much like memory foam due to the underlay (poster board) not being firm or thick enough for body weight walking on it.
Hi hun, it looks stunning 😮❤ I love it. Could you tell me please how it looks like after a while. Do they still look this lovely or maybe they come off? Thank you x

Oh, this is a good idea! I don't see this working as well for high pile carpets like how most rentals have them. But this is an excellent idea none the less. Might be seeing myself do this here soon, I'm going to look for a property with laminate. But some landlords do looooove their carpet. (As it screams, "Let me keep your whole ass $3000 deposit over a tiny stain")
You just saved my rabbits lives, my parents said they were going to get rid of my bunnies because they kept eating the carpet but when i asked to get hardwood they said they didn't want to rip out the carpet. So hopefully this will work
My bunny is the main reason I want to do this! It’ll be so much easier to clean up her hay! I can’t find a vacuum that handles the job well. So glad this saved your bunnies!
@deidrajohnson8300 sadly i didnt get hardwood, but my parents let me keep the bunnos although my room permanently has big missing patches of carpet that just keep getting bigger. It wouldn’t be nearly as bad if i had a smaller breed of rabbit tho
Thank you so much! Overall, it’s pretty solid. It’s not 100% like real hardwood, but I knew that going in. Also, this only works on a low pile carpet. If the carpet is high or very plush it won’t sit flat and feel squishy
so how did you do the doorway? I'm wanting to do my living room I have a transition from the living room into the kitchen. any video on that would be appreciated. beautiful job great idea thank you
this looks fantastic - so quick question for ya ;) how do you prevent it from being bent or developing dents due to the flexibility of the carpet underneath?
Wondering same thing...is it squishy like walking on jelly? I've always ripped out old carpet, underlay, ripped up tack strips and worked on solid concrete with peel and stick tiles. Debating on doing this
Thank you for sharing this. I’m wanting to do this in my office (I’m renting). My only question is if you accidentally drop or spill something that’s liquid on the vinyl, does it seep through the cracks leaking onto the carpet?
I will say that it probably wont matter honestly. Because if you didnt have the planks, then whatever gets spilled would have just fully spilled onto the bare carpet lol.
Hey love, not sure how I missed this comment! Definitely avoid spills, but even if you spilled a little its not the end of the world. Also for cleaning, vacuum & use swiffer wet pads instead of a mop
You have saved my life !!! I hate carpet in my house and I’m like I’ve got to get rid of it …GIRL YOU ARE THE BOMB 💣 you just earned a NEEWWW SUBSCRIBER I’m stalking you now loll just kidding but great job
Love this. Couldn't tell from the video is the floor soft to the Touch ? Could I put a salon chair on it? Trying to add flooring over carpet for a home salon
But how long does that last? What about where the butt joints meet? Do they not crinkle up over each other over time because of the poster underneath? I like it but I don’t see this lasting very long, or at least there would have to be maintenance done on it over time.
This is genius! Thank you so much for this. I had resigned myself to having to get rugs, but have been dreading the upkeep - I have CFS. This is so much cooler and lower maintenance.
I’m definitely trying this! But wait I have one question. I’m kinda concerned about spills. Like if I spill water on the floor, will it get under the tiles and make the carpet mold? Or am I just overthinking about being paranoid?😭
Hey love, thanks for watching🙏🏼💙Lol no its a good point. Definitely avoid spills, but even if you spilled a little its not the end of the world. Also for cleaning, vacuum & use swiffer wet pads instead of a mop

@@snn2913 so far none! It looks exactly the same as when I put it down. Just make sure you push them really close together when laying them down. You should hear them almost snapping together. If not they will shift a bit because it’s just very sticky glue that is connecting them.
I was thinking this exact thing... huge pieces of plywood on top of my carpet doesn't sound fun to deal with... I did think of like... moving blankets or carpet matting etc but that was the best I could come up with, and obviously they're not 'hard' or smooth... this is freaking genius and now i have a great idea in using some old laminate i managed to score for free :D
This looks great but how do you mop the floor if it’s paper underneath? Also how stable would this floor be? Wouldn’t the paper underneath tear eventually? I wanna do it but my carpet is so thick it’s very ugly and bumpy.
Hey! For cleaning I used vacuum and swiffer with wet pads. Avoid mopping for moisture issues. Also, this is only good for very low pile carpets :( otherwise, it will not sit flat or feel solid
I absolutely love your method! I am looking for a solution to cover up carpet in my apartment for easy clean up.. are there issues with liquids going in between the edges of the individual pieces? In cases where you'd need to mop, if spills happen, animal accidents, etc.
hey! thank you so much 🙏🏼💙 I vacuum & use swiffer to clean. the wet pads get the job done better than mop for this set up. I would be careful and avoid too much liquid

Hey! No, the tile was very thin and there was enough space between the door and floor. Transition slips are good to transition space
Aftermath must feel really comfy and soothing on the foot
Yes! The main benefit is covering the carpet
So helpful!! How many of 36 planks did you buy?
Thanks love! I bought four boxes and had a little left
So how well has this held up with living on it?
Mine have varied. The thick tile cracked quickly. The thin has been about 10 months no issues.
Hi! Overall pretty good, here’s the review and removal video (6 Month update) | DIY PEEL & STICK FLOOR TILE REMOVAL

Wow! Great job! I am going to do my dinning room.😉
Thank you so much🙏🏼💙 Good luck with your project!
Thank you 😄
I’m gonna try this. Been living in my apt 8 years and I am SO DONE with the carpet. It’s old and ugly and I do not have time to carpet clean and constantly waiting for it to dry. OVER IT lol! Great idea!
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 YES! try it out and let me know how it comes out!
Love this idea. I have carpet I want to cover and I'm I'm glad I found your video.
Thank you so much! Good luck on your project🙏🏼💙

this should work for hardwood floor as well right? (it won’t bend or slip when walking on top right?) i want to do peel & stick flooring but don’t wanna damage the hardwood floor underneath.
Hi! Yes it works even better on hardwood floor. There are a few tutorials on my page. I would recommend using the white poster paper in between the floor and peel and stick tile to avoid any potential damage or residue
Does it feel like hardwood when your walking on it or does it feel like soft carpet under?
@@IdaAlexis so how does it feel walking on it? You never answered that question
This video is so perfect and such a smart solution to carpet in rentals!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I appreciate it 🙏🏼
Can you do this on a fluffy carpet
Hi! No, if it’s too fluffy it won’t feel solid or sit flat :/
@IdaAlexis Thanks, what suggestions can you give to cover my fluffy carpert
Very clever and cost effective. Tanks!
Thank you so much🙏🏼💙
Ma’am can your fabulous idea get out of my pocket 😂🥰 definitely going to do this I hate carpet 😩😂
Lol thank you so much love🙏🏼💙 Let me know how your project comes out!

Thank you so much! These are the materials

My gosh I wish I would have found this video years ago. This looks so good😍😍😍
Thank you so much love🙏🏼💙 Good luck on your projects!
This is Amazing! i was wandering if i can also do this in my living and dining room?
Omg thank you so much for this. I haaaate my floors in my apartment. Doing this asap
Hey love! Thanks for watching & good luck on your project!
Just happened to see this very creative good job
Thank you!!

Overall pretty good
Oh, this is a good idea!
Lol yes! You bring up all very good points. This is good for very low pile carpets only
Thank you 🙏🏼
You just saved my rabbits lives, my parents said they were going to get rid of my bunnies because they kept eating the carpet but when i asked to get hardwood they said they didn't want to rip out the carpet. So hopefully this will work
Omg! Yes, please try this! It will work
My bunny is the main reason I want to do this!
Very nice would love to do that to my room I rent hate the rug color.
It looks wonderful. I want to know how it FEELS on your feet & when walking
Thank you so much! Overall, it’s pretty solid. It’s not 100% like real hardwood, but I knew that going in. Also, this only works on a low pile carpet. If the carpet is high or very plush it won’t sit flat and feel squishy
New Sub! I've been wanting to do this to my office! Thanks for sharing how it is to be done! You rock!
Thank you so much🙏🏼💙 that means a lot! Good luck with your office project!
so how did you do the doorway? I'm wanting to do my living room I have a transition from the living room into the kitchen. any video on that would be appreciated. beautiful job great idea thank you
Hey! Thank you so much 🙏🏼 you can use a “transition strip” they even have peel and stick options on Amazon amzn.to/3Qby64M
this looks fantastic - so quick question for ya ;) how do you prevent it from being bent or developing dents due to the flexibility of the carpet underneath?
Wondering same thing...is it squishy like walking on jelly?
I've always ripped out old carpet, underlay, ripped up tack strips and worked on solid concrete with peel and stick tiles.
Debating on doing this
Do you mind sharing how it held up after two years? Planning on doing this soon. Great idea ❤
Hey love! I only had this on for about six months, but Overall pretty good. It was a good solution for building that didn’t allow hardwood floors
Wow thanks so much I Might have opened up my apartment Opportunities
Anytime love! Thank you for watching and good luck with your projects
@@IdaAlexis thank you.
This is exactly what I was looking for to use in my camper van
Oh thats going to look so cool!
You have saved my life !!! I hate carpet in my house and I’m like I’ve got to get rid of it …GIRL YOU ARE THE BOMB 💣 you just earned a NEEWWW SUBSCRIBER I’m stalking you now loll just kidding but great job
this comment made me whole day 😩🙏🏼💙 thank you so much love! Hope your project comes out amazinggggg. More videos & content coming soon💗

Love this. Couldn't tell from the video is the floor soft to the Touch ? Could I put a salon chair on it? Trying to add flooring over carpet for a home salon
Thank you! It's pretty sturdy. I have a bed, chairs and other bedroom furniture on it but its its super heavy it will leave a mark.

You are a lifesaver!!! Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you so much for watching🙏🏼💙 and anytime!
I like this idea but how does it feel, i seen some places that have the floor like this and it feels squishy
Thank you! I had no idea where to start after I found thin carpet under the carpet I tore up.
Anytime! Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏼💙
I love this idea- my entire apartment is carpeted, so i just might do something like this ❤
Yay! Let me know how it comes out and thank you so much🙏🏼💙
Going to try this in my bedroom thankx for the vid just subscribed.
Thanks for watching love & good luck on your project🙏🏼💙
How does it do with spills and mopping
Brilliant!! Omg!!
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💙
I’m wanting to do this 😊but how is it when u put furniture or walk on it
Hey! Overall, pretty good! It’s not perfect, but works for me due to building rules. I only recommend this for a very low carpet
This is BRILLIANT.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Amazingly awesome.... Thank you so much
Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏼
But how long does that last? What about where the butt joints meet? Do they not crinkle up over each other over time because of the poster underneath? I like it but I don’t see this lasting very long, or at least there would have to be maintenance done on it over time.
This is genius!
Thank you so much for this.
I had resigned myself to having to get rugs, but have been dreading the upkeep - I have CFS.
This is so much cooler and lower maintenance.
Hey love! So glad to help and good luck on your project. Thanks for watching!
This looks super simple. I'm ready to do it. My only question is, does it last?
Hey! Yes, go for it! I took it after 6 months when moving (video link below)
Overall, yeah it does. It’s not perfect, but it worked for my needs
(6 Month update) | DIY PEEL & STICK FLOOR TILE REMOVAL

Thanks🙏Did you nees to frim the bottom of the door?
Hey! thanks for watching :) No, the tile is very thin so no trimming necessary for most spaces
Brilliant!!🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!
@@IdaAlexis ok that makes sense! Thank you!🙏🏾💜💜
Wow! Excellent idea! This is a lot easier! Thanks!
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💙
I wanted to do this to my living room last year but when I looked on UA-cam the only ppl showing how to lay over carpet were using wood planking underneath. I wasn’t trying to spend that kind of money. I found you a couple weeks ago and your idea of using construction paper was genius!!!! My living room looks absolutely AMAZING!! I wish I could upload pics on here lol.
Oh my goodness this comment made my whole day!! So happy it turned out nicely for you
@@snn2913 so far none! It looks exactly the same as when I put it down. Just make sure you push them really close together when laying them down. You should hear them almost snapping together. If not they will shift a bit because it’s just very sticky glue that is connecting them.
@@snn2913 Anytime! Thanks for watching. Good luck with your project :)
@@riaglitta Woo hoo! good luck on your project love! Also, some people mentioned to stagger the tiles instead of laying them side by side like I did.
