If you are thinking of installing glue down carpet tile or carpet squares, I suggest that you consider peel & stick carpet tile instead. Peel & stick carpet tile can be installed on wood or concrete floors and is a great diy project.

How many times have you pulled up the tile via vacuuming? lol
Agreed!
I knew that some commercial buildings have carpet squares but only recently discovered that they are available for homes as well. Thank you so much for your tutorial. You did a beautiful job and have me convinced!
Wow ! I didn’t even know carpet tiles existed ! Looks great !

4 years later and this DIY video is still teaching us. Thanks for this I will lay my own Man Cave carpet tile.

When I think of carpet tiles, I think of the things you see in airports and other commercial structures. I had no idea anything this pretty existed in the world of carpet tiles. They’re beautiful!

Thisis a great idea if you have a really bad spill. Just remove the stained areas and replace.
Yes. Depending on how worn and dirty the tiles are, the new tile might be noticeable , but should look better than the stain.

How many boxes did you use for your room? Great Job!
Hello I'm wondering if you can give an update on the carpet. Is it lifting in any areas? How is it holding up? Also how soft is it on the feet? Does the padding help? Thank you, just asking cause I'm about to try it.
Hi there. The carpet tiles are holding up well and none have lifted. The padding does help and is soft enough for us. It is not as soft as the carpet and padding that we had before but suits our current needs. Thanks for the question!
@@HacksbyDad 😊 thanks
@@HacksbyDad It's been a year since your update here. Is it still holding up?
@@mikesjunk00 Thanks for asking! Yes, the carpet tiles are still holding up well. I'm glad that my wife agreed to let me install them. She was hesitant at first. LOL

Looks very good 😊
Thanks! The carpet tiles have held up well so far and we plan to install them in the bedrooms too.

I have very very thin carpet I wonder can I just do this over that do I have to take out the old.
I just used floorigami but the tiles still look sectioned. Do you believe thats user error or carpet tiles always end up looking sectioned?
If I want to put this on my already wood flooring how much damage does it cause to the wood? I'm in a rental and don't want to cause damage
It not a very strong adhesive but I don’t know if it will or will not damage your flooring. Sorry.
😎
They have carpet squares that don't have glue on them. They sell tape that doesn't adhere to the floor but only the tiles ( one sided tape ). The tape is 6inch squares and used in each corner of the carpet squares. This holds them together. Mostly gravity, will work to hold them in place if your going from wall to wall. I installed flooring 40yrs. Hit me up if you have questions. Good day.
Are these good for pets? Can you use a carpet cleaner?
Is it hard to rip up?
Great video!! Did you use a carpet roller at all or additional spray carpet adhesive?
Nope. I didn't use a roller or additional adhesive. Used them as-is straight out of the box. Almost 2 years now without any problems. Thanks.
😎
@@HacksbyDad thank you so much! I laid down 6 tiles last week because I needed to do this in sections, but last night I realized that I'm going to have to start from the middle, pretty similar to your video. Hopefully those tiles won't be ruined! Thanks again
@@jennysteve4959 Sure thing... good luck!

Love straight 2 the point video's I'm sure that'll change once u get bigger
Thanks! I plan on keeping my videos short and sweet. I value your time as a viewer.
😎
Thank you so much for your video. Approximately how long did it take you to do that room?
Hmmm... that was over 2 years ago. I would say 8 hours total including taking the video. The hardest part was removing the old tack strips.
😎
You don’t need glue over plywood ? No problem when vacuuming ?
The carpet tiles have an adhesive backing. We haven’t experienced any issues when vacuuming the carpet tiles. 😎
Typically, carpet is first lined with a padding, how soft is this floor without that padding? Seems like it would be pretty hard on the foot.
Sorry... you must have missed the part about the attached padding. It's not very thick but sufficient for our needs. 😎
@@HacksbyDad haha woops I'll go back and rewatch 😅😅
How is cleaning this with kids
What is the best price I can find for those carpet tiles ? Costco maybe 🤔
I’m not sure. I saw it at Home Depot and thought it was reasonably priced.
😎
Will this ruin a rental flooring? We have Hardwood floors and like to add carpet to it but are afraid that what will be the outcome when we take them off when we leave the premises.
I wouldn’t risk it. I’ve only installed this carpet tile on bare plywood subfloors.
😎
Nice
How many comes in a box? How many boxes did you use?
10 in a box @ 18" x 18" in size. I don't recall how many boxes I used. I do have a box and a half leftover and will use it to replace any carpet tiles that get stained in the future. I believe that getting 10% extra is normally recommended.
This is a great video! How do you remove these tiles?(are these rental friendly?)
To remove, start by pulling up a corner. The adhesive backing is not super sticky. Not sure if it will leave residue behind after being installed for a long period of time.
😎
I just seen these at Walmart today. Interesting
Really? Good to know. Thanks.
😎
How many boxes did you use?
Sorry… I don’t remember but I do know that there were 10 carpet tiles per box and each tile was 18” x 18”. 😎
Great video! Do you know if you can shampoo carpet tiles?
The Trafficemaster cleaning and maintenance guide on the Home Depot website says that they can be shampooed, but the guide looks generic... not specific to their carpet tiles. I haven't tried shampooing myself so I can't say for sure. Sorry.
😎
@@HacksbyDad Thanks anyway for getting back to me on that. This makes me want to do my kids rooms.
@@tabithaqueen2345 👍
Woah l, never knew this existed!!
Now you know… LOL

After living with the carpet tiles for a while, do you notice any grid pattern from the edges of the tiles or do they all blend together pretty well?
Thanks for the question.
They blend pretty well, but if you're looking for the grid pattern, you'll be able to see it. Here's a follow-up video two years after installation... ua-cam.com/video/mUtkZLFb8OI/v-deo.html
😎
Can I install these on top of old apartment carpet?
I don’t believe so. Best to install carpet tile on a clean and smooth surface.
😎
Thx
You’re welcome. 😎
Nice job. That looks like a win. Still it seems pretty expensive from what I have seen on Amazon. Decent tiles seem to be above $2.00 / sq. ft. That adds up pretty quick. But it does look very good,
Thanks! We're happy with the installation. Been about 2 years without any issues.
😎
Tiles are still cheaper than carpet because with regular carpet you still have to buy the foam, whereas the foam is already included on the tiles. Plus you need floor staples/nails and carpeting tools to make sure the carpet is not loose or bumpy. But with tiles, as you can see in this video, you don't need much more than a blade and straight edge. Tiles are easier and faster to install than carpets. I wish we knew about this option when we had to recarpet a couple of our rooms. The other thing that I like is that if one area of the carpet gets a bad stain on the floor, I bet its easy to replace that one section.

Good points.
You just blew my mind... Lol
That's a good thing... right? LOL
😎
Might wanna patch that subfloor
I bet that carpet felt good barefoot..
In time Does it peel up in time or stay flat ??? And also what brand and what store did you get those carpet tiles at???
Thanx
The carpet tile has padding but isn't super soft like the roll carpet and padding we had before. Super soft carpet isn't needed now since my kids are all grown up.
The carpet tile has been down for 2 months and no corners have lifted.
I got the carpet tile at Home Depot. The link is in the description. Here it is again... www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMaster-Willow-Kirkdale-Texture-Residential-18-in-x-18-in-Carpet-Tile-10-Tiles-Case-HT004-815-1818/301317937

Where do you buy stick on carpet??
I got the carpet tile from the Home Depot. Thanks.
@@HacksbyDad what happens if you put sticky carpet on a ceramic tile? Will the tiles gets ruin when you decide to remove sticky carpet??
@@joycabanas37 It should be okay. The carpet tiles are designed to be easily removed and replaced in case of a stain. The adhesive is releasable... not an aggressive bond. Hope that helps.
@@HacksbyDad thank you 🙏
@@joycabanas37 You're welcome! Please let me know how your installation goes.
Can you see seams or anything with these?
Great question!
At first, the seams will be visible but will slowly disappear after repeated traffic and vacuuming. The seams won't completely disappear but most people won't notice them unless they are focused on finding them.
Tip #1 on brushing the fibers and pile away from the seams as you install the carpet tiles will help decrease the visibility. Fibers and pile trapped between the tiles will make the seam stand out.
Thanks for the question. I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video.
Not necessary to lift the threshold?
Not for that transition. It is a multipurpose reducer molding for a laminate floor to carpet transition. The carpet butts up against the flat edge of the molding. Look up "reducer molding" on the Home Depot website for more info.
😎
@@HacksbyDad I looked it up. Thanks for the knowledge HBD.
I wish that they weren't so overpriced. 10 tiles for 75 bucks is pretty high.
I was thinking the same thing when I first looked into them but when you price it out per square foot it’s pretty comparable to traditional carpet. Actually it might be cheaper since you don’t have to buy a separate pad and pay for installation.
@@jenhutton5038That's a good point. I'm not installing traditional carpet myself. Could I..... sure. Will I no way 😅
How much did something like this cost? Roughly
Current pricing of the TrafficMaster Willow Kirkdale peel & stick carpet tile at Home Depot is $2.70 per square foot.
😎
@@HacksbyDad ok thnx
@@HacksbyDad what's the procedure when it's time to remove them. I'm moving into a rental place with wood floors. I dont like wood or tiles,I've always loved carpet in my space. Will it damage the floors when it time to remove them?
@@rindershow212
Sorry... I'm not sure. The carpet tiles have a tacky adhesive but I don't know if it will leave a residue after being installed a long time like masking and transparent tapes do.
I just pulled a corner and it easily released, but this is on a bare plywood subfloor and the carpet tiles were installed about 14 months ago.
😎
Where from
I purchased the carpet tiles from the Home Depot. I just happened to see them at my local HD this past weekend.
😎
The cheap ones stink, buy the commercial ones.
I fail to see how this saves time and/or money and just leaves you with a rug with all sorts of potential gaps that will show over time.
Gaps? Only if installed incorrectly.
Carpet tiles have been around for years especially in the commercial space. You’ve probably walked on carpet tiles at the airport, train station, shopping mall, your doctor’s office, etc. I see them all the time.
From a carpenter of 25 years... dont. ...just dont. 😆🤣
Please explain because I haven’t experienced any problems and am happy with the installation 2 years later.
...reasonable question, with a sense of genuine curiosty versus todays expected defensive replies and assumtions and I for one appreciate and thank you for that. Its genuinely refreshing. I didnt intend to imply its a bad product, Its not and actually seems to survive longer than when padded and stretched. Sorry, I didnt clarify but i was actually referring to after it needs to be removed for remodeling etc.. often it can be a real a bear to remove especially if commercial grade glues are involved. Over the years its been the cause of some of my most frustrated and comical moments. Just trying to figure out better and quicker ways to get it done has lead to some dandy memories. So in no way did i mean to disparage the product. It was more just for myself i suppose, I smile and cringe instantly at some of my removal memories that your share brought to mind. ~TS~
@@tomshira5882 Thanks. Appreciate your feedback. 😎
As I've sold carpet for 36 yrs... Carpet tiles suck! A. There aren't many made for residential use..
B. Yes u can install yourself. But if you compare to a quality carpet installed per square foot. Crazy expensive!
C. Yes u can replace 1 piece! But realize that it won't match the old carpet and look stupid cause the rest is worn or discolored.
A WASTE OF MONEY
Thanks for your opinion.
I'm happy with my installation. It's been in place for about 2 years without any problems.
