What's your Top 10?
Wherebane and the iron shield with the shield rod 👌
That's a really crappy list. You didn't even include Heaven Swords, equip one for each hand. Press both at the same time is how you activate the special. It's one of the most powerful specials out of all of the swords.
Ice, Fire Thunder blades are great too. There's the Mablung Sword that acts like the Shield Rod but without the slow speed. The Moon Rod is awesome as well.
If you're just going to talk about swords...
1-Crissy
2-masamune
3-yasutsuna
4-mablung
5-vorpal
6-gurthang
7-holy sword
8-mourner blade
9-alucard sword
10-Marsil
@@JohnSmith-nj4zq _Translator:_
Heaven Sword has less damage, is slower and has shorter range than Runesword. Only the special attack with two swords is cool, but not worth the effort.
Swords with elemental attributes are not very good, because many enemies are resistant to them.
The Mablung Sword is obtained towards the end of the game, when you have access to many better weapons. For this reason, the Shield Rod is much more useful. Besides, attack speed or even strength does not matter, because you use special attacks with shields.
Marsil is my number 1, followed by mablung, the rest can be wherever
Crissaegrim is #1 since it can be used one-handed and doesn't interrupt your movement, meaning you can attack continuously while running. The Muramasa may be more powerful, but since it requires both hands and has a delay between attacks the DPS is WAY lower. With the Crissaegrim and a turbo controller, you just hold the button down and walk. Everything in front of you dies in under a second because it's getting hit for hundreds of points of damage every frame. For some particularly powerful monsters you might have to stop moving for a second or two, but really once you get the Crissaegrim the game is basically over.
_Translator:_
Muramasa DPS is greater than Crissaegrim. Watch my last video.
Additionally, some enemies jump back or block after the first slash. When Muramasa attacks, they have no chance to react and die immediately.
@@3dhYTI already did the math back in 1997.
@@adamb89 And then you had Muramasa with 999 damage? It's hard to believe 😏
@@3dhYTNah each one only did ~100 but when you're hitting the enemy 20-30 times per second, nothing can live. Even Galamoth with his obscene 12,0000HP dies in a couple seconds, during which you are never once rooted to the spot.
I'm not sure about DPS numbers but even if the Crissaegrim loses on that front, the mobility wins my vote.
Alucard Shield + Shield Rod or Mablung Sword is hands down the most broken combo of the game. Casting the Shield Spell does a ton of damage and heals you as long as you’re holding up the shield making you essentially immune to all damage. Costs MP, but you can shred Dracula down in literal seconds.
Eh that’s what makes it fun, most people won’t find this stuff on a first time casual play. Going through the game again in God mode keeps it fresh.
The most craziest thing is that they are default items found from the map. The shield rod is so ridiculously op that it should be a rare drop.
That's my only criticism with this game. Everything about it is great but it can be way too easy if you use certain weapons
This combo is complete broken. U can instant kill Dracula
This game is one of the best games of all time, hands down.
I can revisit this old, familiar castle a hundred times, and just never get sick of the experience.
Amen. Playing it annually.
Playing it once a year and never get tired of it. This is the perfect example that you dont need stunning visuals to make a good game.
@@chronicle_4This game does have stunning visuals
@@chronicle_4 Sure graphically, it's just a nice a game but the real thing of this game is the monstruous number of visual details that make this game a true gem that even after replaying multiple time, you can still discover things
Dual Crissaegrim & Rings of Varda= Everything Dies! 😁☠️
Crissaegrim 100%. Walk while swinging, multi-hit just wrecks anything in your path.
Except the Guardian 😏
Alucard Shield with Shield Rod wins everything. Crissaegrim wins everything slower, but more conveniently.
There is no way this game is not in Hidetaka Miyizaki's top 10 favorites. All of his games are 3d versions of SOTN
If you press left + right + attack while equiped with shield rod it will release a projectile that can block ghost on marble gallery
I'm not sure if you knew, but that shield rod projectile is the same projectile shield as Victory Viper's in Gradius🌚
@@marcwilliams1942 now that you mentioned it... Hahah thats looks the same haha
By sheer raw stats, the Muramasa takes the #1 spot... however, I am firmly in the camp that the Crissaegrim is the #1 sword, when you take every factor into account. You can dual wield the Crissaegrim, which (by frames) can keep your attack rate at a solid 100% of the time you are attacking, doesn't root you in place for the attack, and does comparably high damage with the Masamune, rendering any enemy that gets into range (besides high HP bosses) dead on arrival, and even that said, the bosses will go down in sheer seconds, compared to the Masamune, which requires time between swings. While the Masamune is more powerful by sheer damage/DPS, the primary killer of it taking the #1 spot is the length of time necessary to get the sword up to snuff to top out the Crissaegrim. Plus, as far as personal preference goes, the Crissaegrim is more easily obtained as a drop, by swinging on the same Schmoo repeatedly after stepping through a door in the Forbidden Library. The Masamune is somewhat more difficult to obtain (due to the placement of the enemies which drop it).
Welcome back.
I just realized that Malenia from Elden Ring performs the same attack as the Masamune
An extremely rare drop is Gurthang, it deals just a little less damage than Masamune, I think. And it's one-handed. Without the insane grind needed for Muramasa, it is the third most damaging sword in the game.
but you gotta keep spamming
dark metamorphosis for
Gurthang's true power tho
@@tonyyoung1991 You don't need the highest damage all the time, and could just use Dark Metamorphosis on bosses. It also has a quarter-circle forward special that gives a flat bonus to its ATT, just in case you need it without DM's cast time.
@@SyRose901during my current playthrough. I got 4 gurthangs. Like the hell I only needed one.
@@AnthonyKusanagi101 Damn, rare drops do be like that lmfao
Great list
Crissaegrim + runesword combo = the ultimate lawn mower.
That's my preferred combo when just wandering around the castle, unless I want something different, then I can use the other weapons.
I used double Crissaegrim and managed to attack so fast that Galamoth could not damage me while I was standing inside his legs.
@@joerihuffmeijer3247 Breaks the game spectacularly. One possible combo that works like a charm as well is shield rod and alucard shield. The game has them as default items in the normal and in the inverted castles which is just ridiculous. And i love it.
I have a soft spot for Fist of Tulkas, it was one of the best weapons I got in my very first playthrough and carried me so much in the inverted castle. It was eventually replaced with the Alucard Sword as my main weapon, but I still found myself using the Fist because of the "Hadouken".
_Translator:_
It's a pity that hadouken is a fire element and many enemies are resistant to it.
Excellent video 🗿
Thanks.
Shield Rod has 2 specials. The one you demonstrated by using it at the same time as a shield, and then the down to forward combo which fires out a spinning star that sticks in the air for a fair amount of time and can actually block projectiles that come at you.
_Translator:_
Yes I know. But this special is so weak that it's not even worth showing.
Anyway, thanks for your comment.
@3dhYT it's an Easter egg of Gradius and Life force. NES games where you controlled a spaceship, those were what the shield orbs looked like.
How can i use the special where all the shields show, and do i need to have all shields in the game to use it???
@@DrkMegaJay This is the best special attack with Alucard Shield. Just press attack and defense at the same time.
@@3dhYT thanks 🙏🏼,i still have to get alucards shield 🛡️,I’ll find it
i knew my fave marsil wasnt gonna make the list, hehe very good list man.
They couldn't contain all that explosive power in 1 video!
But yeah, Marsil sword is one of my favorites... even if there's a decent amount of enemies higher up that it doesn't work so well on, but that special is just damn fun!
love that sword
I love the way this is edited. What button combo do you do to do all of the special attacks? I only know of one
Thanks.
Special attack:
down, down-right, right + attack
or
left, right + attack
These are amazing! I just picked up the game on the PS store for the Halloween sale and I'm loving it, but how are you doing the "special"? Are those unique to those weapons? I'm at the Succubus fight so far because I killed Richter thinking "Oh, maybe I wasn't supposed to kill him.." so I'm missing a whole upside down castle experience I'm told. Thanks for the great content!
_Translator:_
Special attacks:
left, right + attack
or
down, down-right, right + attack
If you killed Richter, you best start over. You're really cheating yourself out of a great time with the inversion
The true #1 spot is 2 Crissaegrims
I always enjoyed running around with 2 chakrams
While full powered Muramasa is powerful, dual Crimsaegram is still better. Much wider, longer, and ability to move during the attack simply surpasses everything.
_Translator:_
I just tried this on Dracula and I don't see any difference in kill speed. If there is a difference, it is minimal.
@@3dhYT What? Really? I'm fairly certain double Crimsaegram is faster (assuming you mash both buttons at reasonably fast speed), but I never tested it. But I do know that Crimsaegram is better in going around the castle.
@@3dhYTI'm picturing dracula with a purple eye, bandaged and with a crutch, "can you guys stop testing?"
The Chakram is my favorite above all those weapons
Mine as well. Dual-wield while alternating attack button presses and you can literally walk around whacking everything. Not the strongest weapon but oh so much fun.
SoTN is a game that always refreash my understanding every time I watch video about it.
So many secret....That fist can shoot projectile? How??? lol...
The fist is very good
Do the hadouken command with Fist of Tulkas and get... a hadouken. :)
I think the shield rod deserves a 6 out of 5 lol
What about the sword of dawn wich is the only sword in the game to have a summon ability being able to summon the dawn warrior's.
It's a pretty slow mana guzzler. It's an eye candy for sure, but it's not that good.
Top 10
1. crissaegrim
2. Vorpal Blade
3. Masamune
4. Marsil
5. Malbung Sword (similar to shield Rod)
6. Sword Familiar
7. Alucard Sword
8. Moon Rod
9. Fist of Tulkas
10. Yasutsuna or Osafune Katana
Honorary mention: Duplicator and Power of Sire.
Top 5 can can absolutely break the game.
Marsil! Yes!
Couldn't think of that flame sword with the nuke. Gosh, that drop rate was so ridiculously bad... like ring of Varda or Crisaegrim bad.
@@Deverik1981 Yeah the drops can be painful. The Rune Sword from the Dodo Bird can be a bitch. Every year I learn something new about this game. Like equipping all Alucart equipment will boost your luck. Stack it with the luck name code and other luck equipment helps with item drops.
overall Crissaegrim >> Muramasa
Not only is muramasa really rare (rarer than crissaegrim) The amount of grinding needed to make it useful is ridiculous, compared to crissaegrim that does great damage with the fastest Attack speed.
I would swap the rune sword for a heaven sword. Dual wielding it has a special move that does quite the damage
No, it doesn't deal "quite the damage" it's in fact pretty weak special.
This isn't the first time ive seen the rapier get mentioned and not the were bane :(
Also i would put fist higher. Not just strong with multiple moves and defense but of you time it right it can be used at same time as the Crissagrim
No Heaven Sword, Chakram, or Moon Rod?
I actually just found Chakram on my most recent playthrough, never seen it before. Awesome ranged weapon.
Not me cheesing that hellish boss in inverted castle with the alucard shield and shield rod :))
Crissaegrim is still OP for me.
Marblung Sword is the Best.
Shield rod+ Alucard shield combo is the only acceptable answer. Both very easy to find. No farming/drop rate required. Kills any and all enemies and bosses in literally under 5 seconds 🤷🏽♂️. I can see the only downside being you dont get the Alucard shield until the Reverse Castle, but if you’re on a 2nd playthrough, you can even keep that with Luck name password 🤷🏽♂️
_Translator:_
Yes, this is the most effective combination, but it is also not very satisfying. It's almost like cheating 😏
In my opinion Sword of Dawn can be also #1 since it summons dawn warriors over and over, and combined with thunder subweapon u can destroy all enemies easily 💪🏻
With 1 damage per skeleton? Not really.
i like Power of Sire and Duplicates.Enemy death on screen
Duplicator + meal ticket! Food for days!!!
(until your stomach bursts... or diarrhea strikes, because there is not a single toilet in the entire castle)
@@cocodojodo vampires poop?
whatever the weapon combine with the ring of varda
Wow never knew the saturn version had a difference in Muramasa swords.
Depending on your stats, Shield Rod + Alucard Shield is the best. I guess max Dmg you can get is 3,998, I believe with Muramasa, but that's far unrealistic for most players. SR+AS damage is always about 255, DPS is over 1,000, I guess and you get healed for 8 HP and like a second of invincibility per hit. MP consumption is very low and slow as well. And you just got to hold the shield button and stay close to the opponent. It kills anything really quick and safely.
Dual wield heaven sword special is very cool.
My favorite is tyrfing because of it's negative stats and really low cadency, it makes the game more interesting
Sick video love sotn, how do you have so much health? Did you do the wolf glitch?
_Translator:_
Thanks.
No, it's not a glitch. At max level 99 you have a lot of life points.
Is there a faster way of leveling up instead of killing the royal gaurds in the inverted marble gallery? Im level 50 and its getting harder to level up 😅
@@DougiePwnZ3 _Translator:_
Guardian gives the most experience points, but after some time all enemies will be worth 1 exp. Then it's best to level up Alucard (and also Muramasa) on Medusas, but Spectral Sword is probably an even better opponent for leveling up.
Crissaegrim made you almost invincible if you dual welded them. Everything would just melt in front of you, and you didn't have to stop running.
_Translator:_
There is no difference between one Crissaegrim and two. I checked it on Dracula.
Holy rod was also decent, it is fast and had a holy attribute, and you can also raise damage by doing a special.
I remember how something dropped a Rune Sword for me in the hall, and I was like, is it really just hitting half a screen away and deals good damage.
Moon Rod is good too. This weapon has a very strong special attack.
as i remember it is from the dodo bird
@@tendousouji14344 it was from the dodo, and its only found on the upside down castle in that one hallway. The drop rate is like donkey's a$$ low, and even with a lot of luck you're still slowed down by the fact there's only 1 dodo in that one hallway every time you enter it, so yeah... just be prepared to spend at least a good portion of a day trying to farm for it.
🦤
Duplicator + Power of Sire.
Marsil, Alucard Sword, Holy Rod, Rapier
Sword Familiar and Baudelaire with maxed out play time.
Crissaegrim is so good that vorpal blade is #2
Crissaegrim paired with Fist of Tulkas.
you can also include the vorpal blade. somehow it is stronger than crissaegrim but you need to spam it more.
It's slower, you get three attacks in a given time from Crisaegrim, while Vorpal does two. I tested this years ago because I initially thought the same thing. Unless they fixed that in one of its many iterations between platforms, Crisaegrim hits faster and more often.
I'm surprised that flame weapon off the Flame Demon from the Inverted lab wasn't mentioned though. Hit like a truck, has a short duration aoe that burns projectiles, and a special that blasts a large portion of the map.
yes the crissaegrim hits faster :-)
Can you test Yasutsuna, alternating R and L spam? It might do more damage than crissagraem.
No. Yasutsuna's hitbox is actually a bit janky. So occasionally you would lose dps.
C R I S S A E G R I M !
I usually use the katana
as far as my favorites goes always enjoyed using masamune and rapier/werebane and chakram which I find much better than runesword. But never say no to shield rod with a good shield spell
Chakram was a fantastic weapon.
I loved shield rod and skull shield
I really like 2 heaven swords
Ahhh Crisegrim the sword that makes the Game from Normal Diff to Super Easy Mode 😂😂😂
Great list
I would swap Rapier for Were Bane, it has more attack and has the same special
Thanks.
Dual Crissagrims makes the game run on Easy-Mode
remake please! Best castlevania game for me
how cant be the crissaegrim be on top?
absolutley overpowered wep (love it =D)
Because 999 damage is greater than 36 😉
Crissaegrim is light-years ahead of the muramasa. Equip, spam attacks, walk forward, win game. Equip two for a Cool Trick Doctors Hate
_Translator:_
Muramasa is better. And two Crissaegrim don't change anything. I checked it.
@@3dhYT Even by your own dots system Crissaegrim beats it out. Although to be honest at this point it's splitting hairs, once you've got one or the other there is nothing in the game to challenge you anymore. A high damage muramasa or a crissaegrim both trivialize all endgame content lol
@@orbitalbutt6757 Sword damage determines the first place, because it's better to hit once and hard, than 4 and weakly.
Mablung/Shield Rod + Alucard Shield = Healing Battering Ram

Swipe down and up with jump
I just went Alucard Sword + Were Bane
Idk. I used the one with the best dmg, but vs boss with12k hp i used shield rod+ alucard shield. Reverse castle is way easier than normal
The normal castle is the real struggle. On reversed u r going with bat or gas+ posion 0% of fun
Why is "yasutsuna" not in the list? Its more powerful than the Muramasa, the only problem is that it is two handed use.
Crissaegrim and Muramasa is better.
you should keep the weapon sound effect instead of adding that BGM.
Double Rune Sword
❤
Crissaegrim the best ❤
I marked out over getting Masamune do hard
Crissaegrim too OP at is broken! ur attacking and defending while moving in the same time without any animation delay and hits almost everything in its path and so powerful even at 1 str you can finish the game with it.. again while moving without any animation delay no hindrance on the game play at all.
I made this game my bitch with the shield-rod and the medusa shield. Using gear to get my attack as high as possible I pew-pew'd with laser-beam eyes to victory. xD
Death: Ahh... Alucard... have you reconsidered opposing Dracula? No... well to bad... prepare to die!
Alucard : I'm firing my lasers!
Death: Wait... what?!?
😅😂🤣
instead of rune sword I would say heaven sword x2, using 2 deals tons of dmg
Runesword is faster, deals more damage and has the longest range. The Heaven Sword special attack is cool, but it's not enough for me.
Thanks for comment.
dude Crissaegrim is most broken weapon in SOTN i mean if once u get that weapon u basically is a walking bulldozer that demolishes everything in ur path including all the bosses. honestly i think that weapon should only be obtainable after u beat the game once. and you use that weapon specifically for speedrun.
honestly Crissaegrim is pretty anti-fun
needs more Marsil
Crissaegrim should be 1
_Translator:_
I prefer Muramasa. This is the most powerful weapon (ATK 999 vs ATK 36 Crissaegrim) and thanks to Muramasa I had a reason to play longer. And believe me, one strong cut is better than 4 small ones 😏
Honorable mention: Red rust 😂
Yasutsuna
This and 2 ring of Aries makes it the best weapon in the game hands down. Yeah it's 2 handed, but if you alternate button presses it's 4x faster than the crisagrim. It seems to get critical hit way more often than any other weapon. Ps. You can use it while moving.
Dual Chakrum
Just realizing that the developers were Silmarillion fans
There was a lot of Tolkien weapons or Tolkien inspired items in the game, and they were all pretty damn awesome!
