Maxing the Muramasa in SOTN - Hoverview
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 чер 2016
- The Muramasa is the infamous weapon in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night which can reach 999 attack power if certain conditions are met. Well, those conditions involve hours of grinding blood-spewing enemies.
I manage to figure out a way to max it out by utilizing an emulator and a turbo controller (and a few other things). I'm amazed it worked, but it certainly worked.

Hoverview follows CoreyOTM as I go into detail about a certain aspect of a game or game series. It's more than in overview, it's hoverview.

The Muramasa was intended to be the secret bonus sword for the game. The damage for the weapon actually gets saved into memory on the PS1. If you reload the file you have it at 999 on and then go back to title and start a new file that's a replay, when you get the weapon it will retain its level from your main file.
When he let that Medusa head drop just dissappear I almost cried a bit
Yeah broke my heart too.
I was looking for that comment
Cool video sotn is my favorite game ever
Yeah bro , it was medusa shield
If he was grinding upnthe Muramasa he probably already had a lot of them
dracula, the lord of darkness.... defeated by a bunch of canned merman....
ROFL
and a duplicator
And a monster vial 1
Or 2
On the left and right hand maybe
4:42 Watchng that Medusa shield drop and disappear was heartbreaking because of how rare it is. Seriously it was the last item I needed for 100 percent item completion.
VuryViA 2077 Honestly everyone most likely has that ONE item that just will not drop. When I first played the game as a kid it was the Heaven Sword. You can't imagine my dismay when I found out that you needed two of them to do the special attack.
You're not telling me you got the Crissaegrim before the Medusa shield, aren't you? Even with Ring of Arcana and the best spot to slash a Schmoo over and over again it takes way longer than getting the Medusa shield. The Rune sword also takes a lot of time because you have more walking time between a Dodo Bird and refreshing the room. Also hate getting the Dracula's tunic because my controller is too old to do 20 smooth gravity jumps in a row 😭
@@Thorium_Th Actually the Crissaegrim dropped fairly quick for me. Only took about 10 or so minutes.
@@RondoOfBloodX Well, sometimes Alucard is very lucky but even with a lower drop rate than the Crissaegrim, I always find the Medusa shield quite fast. It's more slashes per minute because Medusa heads are plenty on screen. At least very easy with the duplicator ^^
Got it at 30-40ish % normal castle completion
The Crissaegrim will always be king and doesn't need stupidly long grinding.
I wonder, though, in real time DPS, if the Muramasa or the sword that has damage based on map completion is better? What is the damage, per swing, of a Crissaegrim?
Also, I would argue that with unlimited items, the flame star is the best.
Shield rod + Alucard Shield. No grinding needed, fixed damage, recover HP per hit.
Crissaegrim or however you spell it (prefer the new name Valmanway) is fine but it's also a rare drop (therefore long grinding depending on your luck), and my favourite rare drop will always be the Fist of Tulkas.
true after you acquire the Crissaegrim every other sword maybe minus the shield rod is almost obsolete
its 36x4 per button press with no recovery time so it has continuous attack, its a bit broken
You can count how fuckin long it takes to get the criss as grinding.
Just to let you guys know, I was able to use an Excel spreadsheet to do the math. For each attack point, it will increase by 2 from the previous required amount, as the formula 2(x)+12 implies. To get it from 1 Attack to 2 attack, for example, you would need 14 blood splatters, and to get from 2 to 3, you would need 16.
By running the numbers, getting from 998 to 999 attack takes 2008 blood splatters. Assuming we go from 1 attack to 999 attack, we would need 1,008,978 blood splatters total.
Now, this number isn't perfect. Muramasa initially lowers your attack by 5, meaning that Alucard would need a base 6 attack to be able to do this. This also doesn't factor in attack boosts from level ups or equipment (which may not be a thing, I'm only familiar with the DS Castlevanias, sadly), meaning that the number could further be changed, though only by a bit.
Let's assume that the Alucard at 1:00 is fairly standard. Alucard's base attack is 75. The 117 is the result of a +42 from Alucard Sword in his right-hand, meaning the Muramasa would need to grant +924 attack to buff Alucard up to 999 Attack. Removing the values to go from 1 to 75, we get that this Alucard would need 1,002,378 splatters.
Well, enemies that bleed will bleed when struck with a cutting weapon (which is basically anything with a blade), even if Alucard's attack power is zero.
There’s actually a sword in SotN called the Tyrfing (or something like that) which reduces Alucard's attack power by thirty, basically making normal attacks completely ineffectual while it’s equipped in the early game.
Thankfully, it’s a one-handed sword and can be unequipped at any time. Still, it'd make for a nice challenge run.
Very nice! Also I don’t believe many folks know, that you can still increase the Muramasa past 999. You’ll see it’s actual level when you're poisoned or using STR reducing equipment.
thanks dude, my hopes are refreshed now that i know i need 6 thousand less bloodsplaters.............
@@mtgmeansmagic4758 I was wondering if that was the case. Does that mean if we grind the Muramasa enough, its strength will eventually all disappear, either becoming 0 or some negative number?
@@mtgmeansmagic4758 OK, I just confirmed first-hand that the information you gave is fake: Once you hit 999 ATK, it doesn't matter if you grinded the Muramasa any further or not, because even when poisoned, the game shows your strength as 999 ATK in the menu, and the damage you do to enemies is still (your ATK - enemy DEF) / 2, rounding down the result. That means enemies with zero DEF will take 999 damage from you or, if you are poisoned, 499. Even if you leveled the Muramasa up to, say, A TRILLION BLOOD HEALS, you'll still do 999 damage when normal and 499 when poisoned.
Most broken combo is Alucard Shield and either the Shield Rod or Mablung Sword. Nothing stands in your way, you have brief invincibility after each hit with the shield, you gain hearts and HP each hit (even on indestructible enemies like Stone Skulls or even breakable walls and candles). You can kill Galgamoth in no time flat, not to mention Dracula.
I need to try this...
@@lenyscollectionchannel1591 Just as a heads up, you also lose MP while the shield is out, whether you hit anything or not. So, keep an eye on you MP.
@@Craxin01 Use a Duplicator and a Mana Prism if you run out. (You need to beat the game to buy a Duplicator.) Infinite mana, infinite invincibility.
@@PlanetOfTheApes999 you don’t need to beat the game. Can use the fairy card glitch in the library to oversell gems to get the duplicator.
@@Uneke if you don't beat the game, it won't be for sale.
One thing I have noticed is that everyone seems to forget that if you equip bloodstone while living Muramasa the bloodstone doubles the blood heal and essentially the blood consumption of muramasa thus cutting leveling time in half as a die hard SoTN fan I have tried the method multiple times and have found the it took me half the time to lvl Muramasa to 300 atk power with the bloodstone equipped than with out
So basically walk armour, mura sword, and two rings of varda makes you god?
Yep
Power of sire and duplicator makes you God
CrisLP you are wrong Bat pentagram with strength and attack potion with duplicator and dragon helm plus dracula tunic makes tou god with items
@@ryuujikohsinskishinigami4384 power of sire is easy to get and oneshots literally everyone so
Everyone seems to like the Crissaegrim, but my favorite was always Soul Steal :D
Then you’d like alucard shield/ shield rod.
The in game timer caps out at 99:59:59. The Huge Demon clock ticks in sync with the in game timer. And so at 100 hours play time, comes to a stop. And from that point in time, the pathways from that room will never open again. Effectively sealing an entire section of this demonic castle, never to be seen again.
There's a very deep, haunting thought.
yeah i remember as a kid having that locked off and i was so confused on how to enter it.
some versions go by the a 'real life clock' as set in the consoles menu.. i don't remember what they did on the original PS1 but this is how it is done with the XBLA version (which emulates the ps1 version)
thanks for being such a rad castlevania fan. you shared your personal passion of what many know but repeatedly love to be reminded about how wonderful CV is. keep it up.
To think that SotN is still surpricing me yet again! That game is an amazing little pile of secrets!
First i didn't know about the inverted castle, so i had to replay the game.
Then i didn't know about the bestiary and drops, so i had to play again and grind like hell. Same time i discovered weapon special attacks and the Shield Rod.
Then the Richard mode, the hard mode.
Then i had to replay as the Dreamcast version for the new area and Maria mode (new music was amazing too). -new to me at the time-
And yet again, there was YET another thing i didn't know about the game.
Bless IGA, bless Bloodstained, bless his team and bless his soul.
And fuck Konami.
Azz-Rushman not dreamcast sega saturn was the sega system it was on jsuk
_amazing little pile of secrets_ - Yup, that's worth a Like XD
Who the fuck is Richard?
But you're still a miserable pile of secrets!
Good ol Richard Belmont
Never played SOTN but I seriously respect the work you've put into achieving your goal your own way. That's some serious dedication.
This game is my favorite of all time! I usually complete it at least 3 times a year! And I'm still learning new things!
Hey, cool vid, man! I'm definitely sharing this with other SotN fans I know.
I was waiting for the 1 hit to galamoth😂😂
SOTN and DIABLO II LoD always fascinates.. Simple games yet still full of secrets after all those years.
Your videos rock!!!! I love the commentary and cut scenes lol. Great stuff! Subscribed
Man, there's something oddly old-school UA-cam about this video. I like it a lot. Shine on!
Dunno if maxed muramasa is enough, maybe you shoud use shield rod+Alucard Shield too, just to make sure.
Only 2 hands possible. If Alucard ever grows more arms, it'll be a combination worth testing.
borot man Shield rod is not 2 handed
I like to use osafune katana, you don't need to farm for it and its special gives you s while also having nice dmg, and it's spamable if you're skilled enough (and doesn't use mana so no worry about it running out)
@@AndyTrampke no its a one hand weapon
@@albaneedge i like the crismgram and rune sword 🤗
Your dedication is appreciated.
I enjoyed this video, what a cool game, and the way you made it happen, there's always a way to force compatibility.
Sometimes we gotta create on our own, and make it possible.
This game deserves a remake or remade
Cesar Burgos you called it
no, this is a masterpiece as it is.
Im implying that they made it available on ps4. Graphics arent that much better and they dubbed the voices.
Maybe only some extras, new game +, boss rush, hard mode, etc
It has now.
Or just get two crissaegrim's and nothing stands In your way 😈
even one single Crissaegrim eats Guardians for breakfast, even if one hit deals only 30 damage
Why not? You can swing both at the same time.
HECK YEAH CRISSAGRIM AND IT'S MADE FROM A FRAGMENT OF DRACULA'S (OR OTHERWISE KNOWN AS GABRIEL BELMONT) VAMPIRE KILLER WHIP
big boss actually Gabriel belmont is Dracula in the rebooted Timeline. Symphony of the Night is the original timeline. And the vampire killer is an evolved whip of alchemy from Leon Belmont (see castlevania lament of innocence) and his childhood friend, Mattias Cronqvist, is what turns into Dracula from the power of the Crimson stone.
Or just dont cause you cant shielddash with 2 crissaegrims
I dig the editing on this, good comedic timing!
This was awesome, man. One of my fav games and I've always thought crissaegram was the one to rule them all ;) subbed
Really sucks you don't have that many subs, your videos are pretty good quality, I subbed, hope it helps.
You should also make some more videos, I would be glad to see more.
Noyce! I hope you continue to make more videos like this one.
While I don't intend to have any attacks THIS overpowered in my SOTN engine, I am conceptualizing something involving absorbing blood using dark metamorphosis and using it to increase attack power somehow (to some extent).
I have a # of ideas I intend to test but I won't know which one I'm going with until I have done some extensive ones. But I'm digressing; this vid reminds me of exactly why I chose to remake the game. It's amazing how many unique little things the programmers included in this game. From things as subtle as slightly different armor on the various skeleton variants, to using 3d effects on some weapons, to unique little touches like powering up this sword. You can just tell that a LOT of love was put into this game.

I remember an interview of Bloodstained where IGA said that he loves to let his team freely play around with different little ideas/mechanics for a game.
Pretty sure the different cool stuff the game has was a huge collaboration of the whole team.
You forgot one thing: You can "transfer" muramasa atk stats to the new game file. Simply load up the file you wish to copy the atk power from, then soft reset (start + select, I think). Then create New Game. Bam. Done. As soon as you get Muramasa, its attack is powerful. Dunno about PSP version (Dracula X Chronicles) since there's no soft reset.
What about the Saturn version?
@@RedHairdo Don't know. But my guess is that it works.
Bruh that was amazing! Great job!
This is the best i've ever seen. Love it. If you run for president someday, you have my vote.
I always wondered how long it would take, thanks for the video!
dude i've finished that game so many times and just now i realize you can level up certain weapons thanks for that.
oh and by the way i think you look like the scout from team fortress 2 wich is awesome.
The best soundtrack on gaming history!

Loved the video! Very nicely edited and commented! Keep up the good work (if you ever come back!)
Cool man. Thanks for the effort and tips 👍
Theoretically, you are right; but for normal player, Crissaegrim is way easier and less time consuming.
No, even theoretically, he's wrong. The following has quite greater damage output over time:
2 Crissaegrims + 2 Rings of Arcana + Dragon Helm (lowers DEF) + STR-increasing Relic + 99 Base STR.
A 999 Muramasa pales in comparison to that setup. Tested personally. Also worthy of mention is that none of the above, except for the Dragon Helm, will help Muramasa do any further damage, as the ATK stat is already maxed.
crissaegrim is multi hit. and muramasa is a single hit as i remember.
@@tendousouji14344 No, it’s blood fury hits multiple times.
With finding out the amount to level up the muramasa, you can graph it, thanks to the formula being based on y=mx+b, where M is the slope and B being what y is when x is zero, aka the y-intercept.
Loved the SFA3 sound effects. I played that on PS1 around the time of SoTN. Ahh memories..
Galamord endured 7 hits from his super sword, wow.
jose william cuellar valencia hahahaha I know right???? Such a beast
hes the real boss of that game.
Like really,
He have even more hp than dracula and his attacks are even more op.

SOTN IS STILL ONE OF THE BEST GAMES MADE AND ONE OF MY TOP 5 ALL TIME FAV GAMES EVER!!
This is defenitely better than megaman x (even tho that game was one of the best before castlevania symphony of the night existed) (megaman x 1993 and castlevania symphony of the night 1997)
Cool video dude! This game still is one of my favourites, did you check the damage of your Badelaire after that? Cheers ;)
Tristam Gaming badelaire power=hours played, floored. 99 power. one tenth of a muramasa.
When i attempted to get the sword to 999, I used the dark octopus room. The methodology behind making the most of your time there didnt actually rely on using the sword, much rather having it equipped while you used dagger sub weapon with no attack boosts equipped. Each time the dagger hit, the octopus shed blood, therefore strengthing the sword. Having minimal attack strength meant you could milk the octopus for all it was worth. I think I reached about 400- 500ish alone on this method. Ofcourse, using this method involved either having the blood cloak or duplicator + heart refresher for the heart regain. I went blood cloak with dark metamorphosis/soul steal for the hp regains.
completely true. i used the same method, dagger and blood cloak, which is by far the easiest.
@@maxbrickey9722 i did my muramasa 600+ and im think too far to get the max out 999

Ah...Street Fighter Alpha 3. Another PSX masterpiece. You, fine sir, are truly a man of culture.
SOTN is the best game made other than super Mario bros 3. I still play SOTN to this day I have learned so much about spells and weapons from people like you and was able to beat it a few years ago
And I thought I'd done it all... Great vid!
Corey in the house!
Now you have one last challenge. The worst challenge of them all. Stats in this game increase at random during a level up, but there is a chance that every stat can increase by 1, even rarer is having the stats increase by 1 and have magic increase by 2. The goal of this challenge is getting Alucard with the maximum possible stats in the game. You must ensure that at every level up you at the very least gain +1 to all stats so that by the later levels all stats will be 99. This is gonna be my second and final challenge after I get the muramasa to max level.
100% do-able. Save b4 a lvl, then as long as you get at least 1 point in each stat, save. Even tougher is doing this, AND getting your max increase in HP and MP at the same time.
@@mtgmeansmagic4758 And don't forget to begin the game on a second playthrough, so you can skip all the Dracula text as Richter, and beat the fight superquickly. That + a few other conditions allowed Alucard to have even more HP and/or MP and/or Heart. I don't remember the details, but that was a thing.
I think it was also a thing to reset the map to max out Walk Armor defenses, and I heard of something like turning off the console when saving in a specific way to make all items you picked up since last save to reappear in the castle (like HP raisers). Never went this far, and I dunno if that works on the Saturn or PSP. But it's one way of getting things beyond normal without hacking/emulating/cheating (as in, no external software playing any role).
This game is full of dirty little secrets like that. One can also go explore the castle way beyond its bounds, but I"m not very knowledgeable about that. But some people really are.
Ok, so months later, I'm taking the challenge. And I can say, having first-hand experience: as hard as it is to get +1 on all 4 stats AND get +5MP (as opposed to +4MP) each level is, this is a BABY challenge compared to maxing the Muramasa. The amount of grinding in each task is not even worthy of comparison. In less than a day, I got 25 level ups that way. But the Muramasa cannot be maxed, even manually, at such a speed, no matter what you do. (You can technically max Muramasa in about a week, IF you play like a lifeless motherfucker, pausing the game only to sleep, shower, eat etc..)
You also don't need +1 of the 4 main stats EACH level, because they don't start at 1 or 0, Luck Mode aside. But yes, you'll still need it for the vast majority of the levels.
It's cool to do all this and reach those points!
You are a mad man. Thank you for doing this so that I don't have to.
The game is awesome but I still felt it needed more challenge. I tried the punch only gameplay and while the first zones are difficult you breeze through the game after leveling up around level 40-50 if I recall correctly so using blades like muramasa and crissaegrim makes it super easy even if you are low level
my ears are loving this..audio
Farming for Gods Garb drives me nuts but I have to have all items, that's the fun of it
Me all items possible 99 and the duplicator and diamonds 99 as well
You might think im crazy bu im not
very good review!!!!
I think I still have my Dex Drive around here somewhere. Was pretty amazing when it came out.
As SOTN lover, this video has interesting things, you reach lv 99 before max lvl Muramasa? I was schoked knowing how dificult is to reach lv99. Good video.
Crissaegrim broke sotn, is like walking around with a blender at full speed. If they had made the sword stationary or add the vortex as a special move of the sword it would have given a chance to the other weapons in the game. I personally like the rune sword and heaven sword duo, also sword of dawn was fun too. The one I used to finish the game for the first time was the upgraded firebrand, then I found out about Muramasa powering up and the secret move that teleports you behind the opponent.
you are a true genius honestly !!!!!!
So this is where lil Dewey is now
What a rich, cryptic, esoteric piece of complexity this piece of code represents.
Awesome video
What cover of Bloody Tears is that that kicks in at the end?
Nice vid, what is the song used in the boss montage?
Bloody Tears
In sega saturn which has slow down and it doesn't even handle transparencies correctly imagine even there are four new areas including Underground Garden/Cursed Prison (normal castle) Hell Garden/Soul Prison (inverted castle) also there are new items but there not that good and the music is the skeleton leader boss fight (underground garden) and he hits hard
There's a room in the inverted castle with octopi or whatever - you equip the dagger and make your int 1 with gear so that your daggers do 1 damage and you run left to right killing them with daggers
I have achieved level 913 today. I've been busting octopuses for weeks. I did it on ps4 Requiem version without a turbo controller. With two rings of varda, dracula tunic and a dragon helm it gives additional 87 points, so I have a 999 level muramasa at my disposal. The total time I've spent on grinding the blade is approx. 50 hours. I coul have done it a little faster if I had known how to decrease int. meter in order to make subweapon weaker earlier.
TheTankill thats amazing im pretty jealous but not at the same time mine is only like 60 something because i didn't grind it to far
@@ryuujikohsinskishinigami4384 I think if you equip two rings of varda you'll be able to kill any enemy in the game besides bosses. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to transfer the sword level to a new game
Another fun challenge that is just for the hell of it is the Unequipped run. You unequip all armor and weapons at the beginning of the game and do not equip anything for the whole game. This includes potions, food, and familiars. You must rely on your magic alone and martial arts to save you and beat the game. Myself and a good friend of mine have both done this challenge.
i ♡ the female narrator's voice; it is so soothing.
DUUUUDE........ you desrve MOAR subs man...

I did the ACTUAL grind on PS3 with an arcade stick button taped down for about a week or 2 dont remember. Once you get it will keep its power in a new save. I ❤️ this game
How is the Muramasa if you just use it for a bit? I've never tried. I play through every October, and my current plan for this year is to get a Crisaegrim as quickly as possible.
Starts ultra weak with -5 attack
The Legendary Crissaegrim
I remember maxing that sword out back in 2006. Took about a month and a half.
Yep that’s about right. Dark Octopus are the best imo
Great video
Nobody seems to like the mourneblade yet it keeps you alive and well with a decent attack.
André Gimenez i do tho thanks
Too many weapons in the game
Shield rod + AlucarD shield (not alucart shield). Hold the shield button and just walk into things. Drains MP quickly so adjust armor and potions for that. Most everything including Galamoth goes nite nite pretty quick with this method.
I can beat Dracula without hitting a single attack button. I just let the sword familiar beat him to death.
In the place where you get the crystal cloak but in the upside down castle it powers up relatively quickly
Interesting video! Please do tell how you were able to get over 4000 on health life?
All life ups plus lv 99 because when you are getting to level 90 to 99 you get 200 plus hp and after lv 89 you get like 3153 or something idk only level 72 with all life ups and having 1508 hp luck mode btw
Cryptid and Mythological Bestiary & Weapon Library Master-Archive of Neo-Alexandria in 2d with accents of Polygons is SOTN part of a Trilogy-Trinity that included Akumajo Dracula X(PC-Engine FX) and Dracula X for Snes/Super Famicom.

The thing I'm curious about most is how to start a new game plus with the muramasa
2x Crissaegrim and (ares ring 24)you will kill everything without stop walking .you did a serious grind
Many thanks for the vid & insight, regarding MAXing the Muramasa. Inarguably SOTN is - and will be - a "timeless" gem of a game, one of the fav games to many gamers ... Those who play "grindy" games understand the sheer effort needed to "normally" maximise Muramasa' ATK ... Unfortunatelly, in practical terms, it isn't much viable - as U thouroughly described - and for me, Konami should have thought this through in a more practical terms to achieve so ... As much as i am fond of SOTN, even re-playing it again one day, either on my PS1, or on any Emulator, i will be skipping this grind ... Even for the completist, i believe it is a bit "too much" to achieve .... Hat's off & Kudos though, for your effort & vid.
So, Ive been trying for years to get the wingsmash command down. I know the command already:
While in Bat Form hold [JUMP] + ↑↖←↙↓↘→, release [JUMP]....
I know I am doing it right...and it still won't work... Is it a timing thing? I would like to request a short controller cam video of how it is performed.
You need to hold the jump button while you do the command, after u do the command just release jump
In older games especially, commands like this tend to be very odd about proper execution. I don't have a video explaining so all I can do is explain in detail:
You hold the jump button first, don't input any commands yet. What you should see is the bat flapping once quickly while making a noise and then stay stationary while flapping at a regular rate. From there, as you're holding the jump button, you push ↑ and then make a circular motion with your thumb anti-clockwise to → (so instead of pushing ↑↖←↙↓↘→ individually, you start ↑, move your thumb ← then ↓ then →). Right when your thumb reaches →, you release the jump button.
Hope that helps. I think you can ask anyone IRL to show you if you know someone who played SotN or fighting games in general.
Sooooo how long did it take?
I loved the Yatsuna sword lol. it was fun to use.
did they fix the ingame timer thingy in the ps4 version?
