Sakurai wasn't kidding when he said Simon also echoes Richter in Smash, not only the slide, vault kick, uppercut and blade dash are taken from Richter's SotN moveset but also some animations for movement like his run or the backflip.
Thanks for doing this! I'm not a speed runner, just playing for fun, but you are right, there is hardly any information online about the Richter mode. I'm having trouble with the jumps in the Colosseum, so I thought I'd look at some videos on UA-cam for tips and ideas.
Excellent work! This is an important video - the nuances and 'tech' aren't disseminated nearly enough, so it's great to see their being discussed at length here, as they would be for a shmup or a fighting game. Wonderful presentation and track choices, too. It was also nice to see the Q4RAF - it's such an execution-heavy game, even with Alucard at times, that I always play it on stick these days. Thanks for doing this!
Such a comprehensive guide on an optional character… love to see it! Great tutorial man love the vibe of this video as well. Definitely going use this next time I play SOTN
Music choice for this vid was on point dude, made it both informative and kept me nodding my head to some great VGM I’ve got in my own personal music playlists
Fun fact: you can perform a wall jump with the blade dash. step 1: blade dash at a wall, step 2: jump in the opposite direction after a few frames richter is in the wall. Basically how this works is that all blocking terrain acts like a platform and when you get in the platform it will act like one and simultaneously push you out, so that is how to do wall jumps as richter. I don’t know if this is helpful to speedruns but it is fun to test out. The easiest way to perform this glitch is by using the mobile version
This is fantastic, thank you! I don't plan on speedrunning, but I love knowing all the ways to play with a character, and this is an all-around great resource. Also, I decided to try out a lot of this in Richter mode in Portrait of Ruin for DS and surprising amount still works in that game! Uppercuts just seem to be gone, and Vault Kicks will automatically bounce off walls instead of slow falling, but pressing attack no longer seems to let you bounce off of enemies. Most instances of direction lock seem to be gone outside of Vault Kicks, he runs by default and the backflip is replaced by a normal double jump. Also, 10/10 music choices
i like your BGM, tonality, content and edit. you should have at least 10k subs. i hope you can do more not only on castlevania but any game you're passionate with. you have my subscribe!
Funfact: if you hit any of the transformation buttons while dashing, you'll reset the after-image effect. There's no purpose aside from looking kind of cool.
Back in 97 the prima guide listed "maelstrom attack" with 360 motion + attack. All it did was the blade dash Fast forward to portrait of ruin it made Richter do a crazy combo. Was this omitted in SOT
SotN already feels like a Castlevania. You just control the son of Dracula instead of a traditional Belmont, which adds a great twist to the formula. I love that about SotN, Alucard is awesome!
@@MaskedGuyCh I love alucard too! I just prefer the Whip mechanics the franchise is known for. If one of Alucards weapons were like a demon whip or something to that effect, I would play him more often after I finished the main game, but that’s just me.
Richter is effectively the hard mode of the game to newbies like me, since he has less specials than Alucard, no equipment, and he takes a lot of damage. But honestly all of that is offset by how OP his limited moveset is lol. So i guess he'd be a Glass Cannon kind of character in a Fighting Game.
I loved the difference between richter and slacked play completely different giving you almost an entire new game.richter is just as bad ass as alcurd but its still more fun playing as a vampire and getting familiars.i loved that.having familiars pet like allies was pretty new and never seen before this.now the pet mechanics is in every arpg.
@@RashaEX Well, the video _is_ titled "Mechanics Guide", rather than "Mechanics Guide for Speedrunning". I enjoyed this very well-made video and learnt plenty of neat things, but I too like to just learn more about SotN mechanics regardless of applicability to speedrunning, as that is just a subset of the entirety that the game has to offer.
I can almost never succesfully do the Blade Dash because I have a cheap controller with a cheap d-pad and it's always frustrating how I have so much difficulty doing it.
I challenged myself to beat the game with just the Flame Whip and no other item weapons. Pretty silly considering the flame whip does absolutely nothing, but his other moves do so much damage that it still made a decent Oh-Shit button and cool visual effect. The only boss I couldn't beat like that was Galamoth.
drove myself fucking insane trying to beat Galamoth with no subweapon. I want to say I did it, but it was years ago and i can't remember. involved a lot of uppercuts and blade dashing through his legs.
@@BlinJe I can totally picture it being possible, I just didn't have the patience for it lol. I seriously wish we could collect the weapons and cycle through them instead of replacing them. That and having a working flame whip that increase your standard attacks, uppercuts and dashes, with a stacking damage over time effect. Richter should be incinerating these guys.
@@nate5490 It wasn't easy that's for sure. I used the clock weapon to defeat him. I tried holy water at first, but I ran out of ammo because the guy is just so fucking powerful. Had to get him in a reoccurring patter too. Took multiple tries but I pulled it off.
This is why i both like and dislike the mobile versions. One is because it has button shortcuts for things like sliding, but then if you want to, say, uppercut, you gotta do the button combo

Ironic coming from someone with that profile picture 💀

This shit is going to be my first fighting game
i’ve never played richter mode despite SoTN being one of my favorite games, but this is quite possibly one of the best videos i’ve ever seen
This retains all the properties of a normal backflip. Sounds so scientific
I hear that fate extra music in the background, good taste my guy

I just started a save with richter and it felt really slow until I saw your video, thanks dude! it's really well done and very easily understandable

The whole "old-school arcade fighting game tutorial" feel this has is both hilarious and genius considering the inputs the game has.
This is why I love intricate mechanics in games. Thanks for this awesome video.
Thank you for this mechanics guide on Richter! I was having trouble with my playthrough with him.
Man this game so good. I want both a remaster and a reimagined remake. I have ps 1 classic version, still play it on the vita sometimes.

Thanks I needed this lmao just got done beating the game
That thumbnail was top tier
The music, the video, the TEC, youre a legend
Also I never knew vault kick had any usefulness, holding attack during is a game changer, you're a legend.

Ok, I never actually know the backflip hit on the slide jump was perfomed like that
Thanks for the info
Thank you for this! I just wanted to know how to do the specials, but most other guides are terrible at explaining the motions
Back in 97 the prima guide listed "maelstrom attack" with 360 motion + attack. All it did was the blade dash

I kinda spit my drink when I saw you using a pad realizing that this is gonna be a very technical video
Man i didnt even know half of these, and I almost beat the game as richter! This is a very well done video, thanks!
glad you could learn something :D
Very informative video and great music choices.
This has no business being so fun to watch 😆
Really well thought out and executed video, much like the gameplay.
Kudos!
you are the best Castlevania teacher I ever had.
I wish there was one of these for alucard, as well for aria of sorrow/dawn of sorrow for Soma and Julius
Judgement wasn't the first Castlevania fighting game. It was in fact, Symphony of the Night.
Amazing video
You deserve so much more views
Made the game 10x fun now
This character actually makes the game feel like Castlevania.

Backflip off the vault kick. If you hold down + square you backflip further. I was hoping for some obscure weapon tricks. Ah well.
Hah, sorry to disappoint. The intent was to cover information relevant to speedrunning, most of all.

this guide is amazing!!!!
Excellent music list
Nice music choice!
So that's how you dash
awesome guide thanks
I still can't do the blade dash with my Xbox 360 3rd party wired d-pad nor N3DS XL
Pretty Sweet
Well edited, friend
Why do FGC vibes work with SoTN so well ??
shits like a Tekken character guide lmao
Love this game
This killed my thumbs 😅
Hydrostorm with damage stack slaps though don’t see using any other sub weapon
I literally just watch a guy playing Castlevania sotn with fight stick. Crazy
Wish the uppercut was this dope in smash. Kazuya, man….
Really well-done and in-depth video for a guy with fingernail polish on. Props to you for overcoming stereotypes!
Good stuff
i always wondered how to do the backflip after a slide kick
Great video bro 👍🏽
Is there any version of the game in which the Flame Whip crash actually works as intended (double damage/Fire element)?
nope, flame whip doesn't do anything in any release of the game.
Awesome explaination :D
a unica skill que eu nunca consigo usar é a do backflip
I've been playing the game for a day and didn't know the uppercut existed. 😂
Thanks a lot Man!

so dope
Nice
Help when I do the uppercut movements and button presses it doesn't work
Doing consecutive blade dashes with the psp d-pad is very hard
And what about Maria guide ?

3:31 Muda! Muda! Muda! Muda! Muda! Muda!
Cant seem to get the hang of doing consistent Blade dash...
Niceee
Maneiro video não entendi oo que voce tava falando mas endendi como fais as coisas
I need this soundtrack
All the music used is credited in the description :)
Where are the rest of the characters like Maria and Alucard?
I'm mostly a Richter player myself, but there are fantastic resources for the other characters if you check out speedrun.com
ur so pro
Is a stick better than a gamepad for sotn?
I mentioned in the description, but you can use whatever you're most comfortable with. People have played at top level with pad, stick, and keyboard.
can u bot heal as ritcher ?
grabbing an HP Max Up refills your health and boosts max HP by 10. Only other way to heal is at save points.
This man is using a fight stick to place castlevania, unreal
It is like a fighting game
@@Anti-Yeet true, I commented before i actually played it and then I got the game and saw the spell list LMAO
Just use Hidro storm.
Can you do one for alucard please
The Alucard WR holder actually made their own!

That blade dash input makes no sense to me.
it's basically Up followed by a quarter circle forward - numpad notation would be 823. If you can do hellfire with Alucard, you can blade dash.
Pra mim
who on earth play castlevania using joystick? you should use hitbox.
É o melhor modo do jogo.
