FIRST START + DRIVE IN 29 YEARS! - Barn Find 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger - UTX

  • Today at Ugly Truck, the big question is: "WILL IT RUN?" Today's the day we're bringing our barn find 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger back to life! After soaking the 225 slant six down with used engine oil, it finally broke free! We installed a new battery, cleaned the spark plugs, and squirted some gas down the intake, and it fired right up. We decided the gas tank was clean enough, so we put a new fuel filter in and went for our first drive out in the field. This car is so solid and runs so good, it's hard to believe it spent nearly 3 decades in a barn with the engine locked up.

      We love everything, but Mopar really nailed the muscle car look. This car is pretty plain jane now, but with some different wheels and tires and a tail stripe, it would look pretty mean! Thanks for watching!

    Love it, always liked the Chrysler A bodies. Glad to see it running again. When's it getting it's 360 Magnum ? Just a note on the smoking, all you needed was a cylinder on overlap with both an intake and an exhaust valve open at the same time and and after filling the engine and intake you have a gallon of oil to burn off in the exhaust.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ken, I use a piece of clear vinyl tubing off of the dipstick so I can keep track of my oil level in the motor trying to keep it below the exhaust valve level. If I see the level dropping quick I figure I'm filling up the exhaust. I really hope you are correct on this one and that is all it is. I'm thinking 340 though. Or a 5.7 hemi.

    Okay- here we go. The radiator, shroud & clutch fan are HD cooling. My bet is that it has the HD suspension/trailer package . If you have a sway bar on front at the torsion bars read .892 (left) and .893 (right- found on the rear in the torsion bar anchor points), the rims are 5.5" or 6" wide, it has the "Good stuff." The wiper motor appears to be the "3-speed"/multi-speed unit.. The car is small bolt pattern Very, 5 lug on 4" spread. The master cylinder appears to also be for a disc brake car- be sure to surface the rotors & put fresh soft pads on it. Those rotors are pricey, do not tear them up unless you want to spend a good chunk of change. Very nice. Wix , Baldwin & factory are the only filters I use. A 51515 Wix oil filter will fit slant 6-through- Hemi & gives you more filter medium & oil capacity.
    Recommend you change the instrument cluster voltage regulator and the ballast resistor immediately. If they pop, the ICR will fry your cluster & can start a fire under the dash. If the ballast resistor goes, you will stop running and the wiring under the hood can burn.
    Easy upgrade? Get a starter for an '88 Fifth Avenue- not half the weight or size, spins twice as fast, and 1/3 the draw. Also, if you can find a "Super Six" intake set up...the intake set up, the exhaust and the kick down will wake the car up a bit w/o ruining mileage with normal driving. I would recommend putting in a 2.5" full exhaust with that package as well.
    I run 16" Lincoln LSC "Turbine" rims on my Valiant or a set of 15" cop wheels with AMC centers...

The best thing to do is to remove the entire worthless EGR system and cap everything off. The car runs perfectly without it. Has nothing to do with cruise control.
