Beautiful 72 Dodge Dart Custom, the fancier if the two trim levels. The 318 is sweet. Try to find a 72 grill for it. That is a 70/71 grill in there now. I learned to drive on a 72 Dart sedan so basic it had manual steering, unassisted 4 wheel drum brakes, and even a rubber foot pump for the windscreen washers. Electric pump was included when the 3 speed wipers were ordered.
A real backyard mechanic holds a lighted ciggie in one hand while pouring gasoline into a carburetor with the other! Makes for a real BOOMing experience!!
Ya gottah love the total disreguard for having a lit butt next to gasoline/fumes. Very trusting people. Mustah had a fire extinguiher handy. That is a very responsive engine for having been sitting ! My dad bought a 73 Scamp slnt 6 new. Got T boned in 79. He survived.
My grand parents bought a 66 dodge dart brand new. Two door basic beige slant six, three on the tree. It lasted for about thirteen years however, the first ten years or so, it was only driven to church on Sunday. Grandpa had a 1956 Olds 88 he woukd drive to work daily.
always loved these cute little Darts and Plymouth Valiants .. my mother’s first car was a 62 Dodge Lancer identical to the Valiant other than badging .. those 318 engines were indestructible! .. we had one in a new 66 Plymouth Belvedere II 3 seat wagon first car we ever had with factory air conditioning
When cars bin sitting for so long,, beside braking loose and crank, have minimum compression, I allways make sure it's got spark, replace the carburator kit, have gas pomping , from that point, IT never fail starting, This Dart, I'd make a sleeper of IT! After all those years, that 318 souds great! I'de swap a 650 Holley on There 🙂 Please forgive my English, I'm a french Canadien from Up North Quebec , cheer's!
Man, this REALLY makes me wish my 1974 Dart Custom coupe. It had a 225 Slant six, but it was plenty peppy. It only had 16k miles on it, but if I would've kept it I would've swapped in a 360 LA (and I had one in my garage from my 1983 Ramcharger), but I sold it shortly after like an idiot. My uncle bought it, drove it for a few hundred miles, and sold it for $1000. I also got a 1976 Buick Skylark sedan with an Olds 260 (4.3L 110HP) V8 with 34k miles from the same people for free. I drove that more than the Dart.
Love the Slant Six! It's one of my favorites... cool little Civic on your page. I've got a Shelby Charger with 2.2 turbo. Not fast by today's standards, but it's still fun to drive...

It makes 709 whp at 34 psi, and it's best time to date is 9.56 @ 155 MPH. I work six days a week though, so it's tough to get time to mess with it.
Small bolt-pattern, 7.25"/9-bolt rear, probably 10" drum brakes, 14" rims-but may be the 5.5" versions due to it being an AC car. Has the variable-speed wipers, HD cooling, tinted windows. If you convert it to disc brakes, go '73 up. Big bolt pattern, 5 on 4.5" spread- you'll have to throw in the rear end, but covert to an 8.25. Later K-member has spool mounts for the engine and better sway bar mounting. That looks to be very solid & worth doing. PS- get a starter for an '89 Gran Fury. Not half the size & weight, spins much faster, and 1/3 the draw.

'73-up was the year Chrysler standardized the spindle across the board, so you get big bearings & the 11.75" discs from the last of the B &R bodies bolt on (use the caliper & adapter bracket). I have a sedan that runs that with the offset UCA offset bushings (rears spun 180⁰ out), poly sway bar bushings, 340/Formula S/A38 (cop car A-body) torsion bars, boxed LCA's, alignment set to cut understeer a bit, FFI steering box, perimeter welded K-member (with braced inboard box mount) with a skid plate,V8 HD leafs with poly bushings...You'd be shocked at how well that works to make it handle & brake. In traffic it has saved the car a couple times from other drivers. A lot more fun to drive, too
Me n my current girlfriend was hitchhiking to St Louis from South Arkansas. Was dropped off in Memphis. The night Elvis died we were sleeping under a underpassing on the freeway not to many miles from Graceland. Got to Nashville the next day n saw the news saying Elvis had died the nite before.
I was complaining about the heat in the living room to my mother as she yelled out oh no on the phone from with neighbor across the street .. That's a great car I bet it will clean up nice . Toss a nice intake and a four barrel on her she won't be a hot rod but certainly no slouch for a granny car either 😂
There is a guy who hauls scrap metal by my house and i just saw him with one of these on the back of his trailer. Im gonna see if i can get it before it heads to the scrap yard.

I got paid $3300.00 to remove a 69 Dart & 2 Tradesman vans from a guys property,,they had been sitting for 3o years ,,the Dart had rodents living it & was a mess ,,I've been loving on her for 5 years & she's almost a show car now ,,every square inch of her has been restored she has been an absolute delight to rebuild ,,but I got a ton of $$$ into her ,,save the A-Bodys

The guy with the cigarette knew the score. I was yelling "Get a hammer!" for 4 minutes lol. Once the float and needle valve is working about the only thing you have to do is take the idle screws out and blast the channel with carb cleaner. Those Carted BBDs are dead simple but easy to plug up the idle circuit. Good luck! I love the car. Where you at that you can still have your quarter panels with hardly any rust?
My father bought a '72 Swinger 2 door with the 225 slant six brand new that I still have, but haven't had it on the road in 23 years. Think I last started it some 15 years ago.
Though it might not be, it could be the coil, solenoid, or starter relay box. If it is the relay box, the back of it will always be melted. For the .318 flavor int will be the anodized colored relay. They have the blue one, orange, and black ones as well.
Slant 6 Dart! My dad bought one from the neighbor, gave it me for my first car. I handed it down to my younger brother. It went through 2 teenaged boys and still ran like a champ. Bullet proof!

you do have to change the oil (and keep some in it). Mine's got 239K and counting (1997 Ram 1500 4x2)

Times have changed. We didn't want air going up because it cost power.....
The 66 had the poly head 318 a little different than the LA 318 good engines though.
