My girlfriends car just started doing this. I found if you push the lever forward really hard it will unlock. Will be replacing that part now. Thank you!
This helped a lot! I just did the same thing: I used electrical tape make it thicker so it can click. I’m going to buy the replacement soon but this’ll be a for-now thing. Thank you! Taking apart the console wasn’t too tough, either. With small research I figured out how to take it apart.
@ 3 mins - there are two switches in the kit because it is intended to replace both of the two switches in the shifter assembly. One is the lower one that you are changing which is the park position sensor switch, the other switch is higher up on the shifter mechanism and is the reverse position sensor switch. Both switches are known to Nissan to be high failure points. Of course they were too cheap to ever do a recall on it.
Yea someone recently commented on one of my two videos in this issue and made me realize the second one is also for the my vehicle. I didn’t know it was for the reverse position. I actually still have it in my shed in the bag because I like to save everything but good thing I did just in case you never know. Regardless been shifting strong ever since. Thanks for the info!
Question, have you ran into this problem ever since you replaced the switches? Just curious because there is also a switch on the brake pedal next to the brake switch that also engages that solenoid.
@@franny3451 in my experience the solenoid is only actuated by the second switch mounted at the brake pedal. The two switches up at the shifter are the parked position and reverse position sensors. True though if the park position switch were to fail open it would block the signal from getting to the solenoid so it is part of the circuit. The reverse position sensor is what tells the ECM to turn the backup lights and camera display on the dash when in reverse.
I'm about to take my car in for it's regular service and to investigate why my shifter stuck in park. It being stuck is intermittent and your video makes a lot of sense. I was wondering if my transmission was going, or the fluid was low...the service department might check all kinds of things but who knows if they know about this or would tell me it's such a simple fix so thank you!
crock crock 1 your best bet is to find the one that’s in your versa and actually match it up yourself find the part number on it.. I don’t do replace things any other way
Thank you very much for the video and amazon part link. I just replaced mine after watching you videos. The center console was a challenge since it was not covered in your video and other videos so it took a little time to do trial and error. But overall, thanks for guidance.
i am at that point where the solenoid is grounded so now i have to find a new one. Bad part is nissan doesn’t sell those solenoids by themselves only when u buy a new shifter, so my next idea is pick and pulls
John, i ordered that same part on amazon and replaced it in exactly the sake way you showed in your video, but mine still isnt working. Any ideas? Could it be the solenoid itself? (The blue part shown in the video?)
I feel like that’s the next logical choice. All that part is, is a switch. So if the switch isn’t letting the solenoid work I would say it the solenoids.. assuming it not a fuse or a cut wire
I have a 2014 but the console looks the same. But trying to find the oem part number for my year i can't find the part with the metal arm. Is it the solenoid because the diagram for my year shows the solenoid only being the metal box with blue protective wrap. Do you have the part number
Same problems I have it with my nissan sunny n16 I can't move my vehicle from park to drive I have to press shift interlock button ...so what to do in that .....? How do I fix that problem..?
hey, I clicked on your link and it said, "sorry we couldn't find your page." do you know somewhere I could purchase it from. and what is the exact name of that piece? I tried looking at the name I got off the package up and couldn't find it?
Chubbs I would say there’s maybe one or two parts you might get stuck but overall It’s really it’s not too too difficult. You should be able to search a how to for it
try to bend the metal part outward of the switch,,,,hold the part that touch the little plastic nipple and at the same time bend it outward,,what happens is it straightens with time and doesnt push all the way to activate the nipple part,,,,this way you dont but those switches'''''''''
or you could've just gotten one of those electric reciprocating saw (jig saw) and cut off the top part of the white plastic mount, that it drives up to keep the shifter in the lock position. Cut it off about half way. You would still have to push the buttons in to move the shifter.

Just bought the replacement, waiting to receive it. If I can I’ll comment if it worked for my 2014 Nissan Sentra. 😁
Got the part 3 days ago, installed it the same night and shifter has been working ever since. Thank you!
What's the part called

Very few would tell you when it's 800.00 for two solenoids.

That switch is for the altima/pathfinder...did it work for the sentra?
I used a long bread tie on my sis's 05 altima UNTIL I find my zip ties. Better than a quote for 800.00 for two solenoids. Chekeye.
