2012 Nissan Sentra WIll Not Go Into Park

Here is a video to show you guys how to fix your Nissan Sentra shifter knob or when it will not go into Park. Although it is a temporary fix, you will be just fine if you don't care about the Over Drive setting on your car. Hope this helped!

just curious on why my gear shift wouldnt go into park as i was about to take to mechanic to replace the shifter cable then came across your video. so if i replace the gear shift knob it should be fine from there ?

Hey sorry for the late reply. I am not exactly sure but I feel like a plastic part just breaks off of the gear shifter assembly and gets stuck somewhere in between preventing the shifter from going into Park

Hello, I took out the overdrive button but still getting stuck, do you know why this can be happening?

Make sure nothing is in the way of the large button that is located on the gear shifter knob that you press when shifting gears
Worst case scenario remove the gear shifter knob completely and just press on the shifter shaft to switch gears

I took out the overdrive button but the shifter still doesnt work like at the end of the video.It shifts fine though without the shifter handle.Maybe the large button in the handle is broken or worn out also?

@@davep5647 I think it may be worn out as you said it. Mine wouldn’t shift as well but my overdrive button was apparently broken and plastic particles were blocking the entire shifter from operating.
Try putting the entire handle back on (w/o the overdrive button but leave the large button in place), then push the handle down towards the floor and try moving the selector up and down through gears. If that doesn’t work, try removing the large button if possible. If neither work, I would suggest looking for a used gear knob and replacing the entire gear handle.

Was able to put in park but with the gear shift back on it doesn’t seem to work again. Video stopped before you full fixed it 🙃

This video has helped over a hundred people fix their shifter and you are the only comment saying otherwise. Use common sense, try removing the shifter knob again and see if something like a piece of plastic is stuck or loose inside there. Maybe you just didn’t slide the shifter knob all the way down? Also It’s fully fixed before the video ends I just forgot to reinstall the pin. Anyway, hope this video was helpful
