Thank you so much for making this. I followed step by step and got it fixed. A few months later the metal switch got tired again so i ordered a replacement switch. I recommend anyone that watches this to just get a new switch so you dont have to rip it out twice.
Just saved me $850, took less than an hour from start to finish, didn't work at first, turns out I didn't bend the prong up enough, if anybody else has this problem. Super simple and video was perfect walk through. No issues at all.
Yen Estelles thank you so much for this video. I was stranded last night in a parking lot after a concert. Not fun. Thanks to UA-cam, I found out how to release my shifter from park, and thanks to you, I was able to repair it today and with no extra parts lying around. It was a little more difficult to remove the panels than your video, but I got to it. There were parts all over my backyard, at some point I thought oh my I hope this fixes the problem. It did. While I was at it, I fixed the light that was burned in my console under the P R N D little sign, it was driving me nuts. I called the dealer for the part number of the light bulb replacement, the guy told me they don't repair that part, they sell a new console, I just hung up. There are plenty of video on UA-cam that shows how to replace the part, I just didn't know the part number. I took the bulb at the car parts store, with my console parts on the passenger seat and the white plastic knob gear thingy sticking out and they found me a matching light bulb $5 for 2. Yeah, all fixed!!!! I owe you a beer or a nice bottle of rum.

Thank you so much for doing this video. Great step by step! I'm a 54 year old female, and was able to this without any problems. I found that part on Amazon, for my mom's 2013 Nissan Altima. Part was $19.00. it works great, so far! I would've never tried this without your video. Thanks again! God bless you!

My regular mechanic couldn't figure out what to quote me, so I figured what heck and followed your video. Bent the metal piece a bit and it works like a champ now. Thanks so much for posting!

I have been using a screwdriver to shift my car out of park for the past 1 1/2 years. I finally took it to the Nissan dealership today and was given a $728 estimate for repair. I know literally nothing about cars, but using your video, I was able to fix it myself in under 2 hours and all it cost me was a few broken fingernails lol. Thank you sooooo much!
Man o man this video saved me 700 bucks that's awesome thanks for putting the video out. Kids that grew up tearing their remote control cars apart to see how they worked will make this job easy to do yourself
Thanks so much for the video wouldn't of been able to disassemble that console without it. With that said, I went to the dealer attempting to buy that switch and found that shifter assembly is NOT SERVICEABLE. You need to buy the entire assembly for $530 and change. The parts guy sold me a brake pedal switch and recommended I speak with a service advisor. They were no help and acted like they have never seen this problem before. I am so disgusted with Nissan this has been one of many other issues with that car. I bent the tab forward on the shifter switch and reinstalled everything and it works now. Thanks again you saved me a lot of time and broken plastic parts.
Thank you so much I knew something was wrong either way the shifter on my moms 2017 altima when she told me she couldn't get it out of park but thankfully i found your video before taking it to any autoshop. I really appreciate you and people like you that solve the problem and share it with us all.
I just experienced this "problem" today. I knew it wasn't the transmission as I can use the shift lock key to get it out of park. Thank you for posting this and you just saved me some money (dealer wanted $600 just for the part with only a year warranty). I will do this fix tomorrow and save myself some money. Again, thank you for this and you have a new subscriber.
Thank you so much man. You saved me a lot of money . My wife's car started doing this yesterday and I watched this video. Today my wife thanks you and she is very happy to have her car back. YOU ARE THE MAN!!😁😁😁 Thank you again.
You’re a lifesaver. The car gods are smiling down at you. I actually bought the part that you pointed out and replaced it following your steps. Took me about an hour and a half since I was being really careful not to break any panels. $600-$700 estimate at the dealership for this? Screw that. Thanks a lot for your help. P.S. Your zipper was down during this recording.
Fantastically HELPFUL video. Saved me $700-800 at the dealership for about hour and half of work. You do have to shift to drive to get the center console out and in. I tried leaving it park thinking I could get it done but it was a hassle so I did shift to drive. I was scared at first to put it back together but it all worked out just fine. Thanks again!!!!
You may have posted this 5 years ago, but it's still relevant in Nov of 2022. My 2013 Altima had the exact same problem begin while we were on vacation out of state. I initially thought it was a transmission problem, so I was worried we'd be stranded. We eventually found out it wasn't that serious, so we used the work-around screwdriver solution for months, but my wife wanted it repaired. My shop quoted me $1200 for the repair, so thanks to your video, I decided to give it a shot on my own. It was scary even with your video, but I got it done. Some of the plugs were quite difficult to unplug, but that was probably the hardest thing. I couldn't "man-handle" that center section, but I was able to pry it out. Yes, the job did take me longer than it took you, but I had plenty of time & intentionally wanted to go slowly so I wouldn't break anything. Success! Thanks for posting this and saving me $1200. Now the real question is: How long will this fix last?? PS: I'm a little pissed that Nissan won't sell that little plastic replacement switch alone for $10. It comes out easily and unplugs, so you should not have to but a whole new shifter. They could then charge about an hour or so of labor to replace it. Actually, it's obviously a known defect, so they should just replace it at no charge. This is a perfect example of coorporate power & greed.
The electric portion of the contraption has a really long life. Tested to last over a million "cycles" but the weak part is the thin metallic level that actuates the switch. So if it stops working after a few months you just need to bend the tab once again. If your ever stuck you can take the key out of the fob and push the level with the key of the car in case you don't have a screwdriver handy.
Very helpful and easy to follow. On a side note, because the switch was not functioning properly, my key fob would not lock and unlock my car by pressing it's buttons. I had to press the button on the car each time. You saved me money on a new switch and a $400 key fob. Thank you
Right on bro!!!😎 thank you. Here in Vegas they wanted to charge me more than $600 and that was a few years ago. I’ve been unlocking it through that little hole for years. I’m taking her apart on my next day off based on this video thank you
Mr. Yen Estelles thank you so much for taking the time to make this video you are truly lifesaver. My 2013 Nissan Altima with about 94,000 decided to do this to me right out of the blue. The dealer wanted to charge me $600 plus tax and that was just for the part not including the labor. I’m pretty mechanically inclined so I watched your video very carefully and sure enough that was the exact issue that was taking place with that little white switch under rather the gear shifter. Once again Thank You for helping others. I’m looking forward to watching more of your very helpful videos. Kudos !!! Way to go !!!
Thanks!!! Took about 90 minutes on my wife's '13 Altima. Would've been quicker but I was a little slow putting everything back together! Thanks for saving me $$$.
Like most others on here have said, thank you SO MUCH, man. Quoted $750 by dealership to replace the entire shifter because the "solenoid is not a serviceable part." You've made my day, car is now back to working properly. Thank you thank you! 👏
Great video but I would make a couple recommendations to someone doing this for the first time. First, watch the video in it's entirety so you understand the process, then watch it again but this time take notes of what he's doing and in what order. The reason is that he really doesn't go into putting things back together and it's easy to get ahead of yourself reassembling your car and before you know it you'll be taking things apart because you accidently skipped a step. Great video, super helpful. Thanks!
@@cubanpapimiami I meant no criticism, I was only interested in helping the next person out by sharing my own experience. I don't think anyone would ecspect you to go thru a detailed reassembly.
Thank you so much for this. For those that are wondering, it's much easier than you think. I think the hardest part was snapping the body panels back together. I almost never work on my own cars any more but this only took around 30 minutes start to finish.
Yen! I did it in under an hour! I never thought I could fix anything in a car! You really saved me a whole lot of grief! I had to take some parts off again cause I forgot to connect a cable but wow.. thank you so much!
Thanks for posting this video. My local Nissan dealer quote me $754 to replace the shifter instead of fixing. Fixed my Nissan altima in almost 1 hour by myself. You are awesome🙏🙏
Man let me just tell you thanks a million you just saved me $800 but also another lesson learned. I just finished putting mine back together and it works just fine.
This switch was not the issue for my friend's 13 2.5 S but your video was still super valuable to show how to get into the console. I did not remove the entire console though - just the plastic strip on the right of the radio, then the vertical trim below radio, and the cup holder part. Once that was off, I had no trouble getting to the shifter itself, including removing it from inside the console. However, since this switch wasn't the issue here, I just popped off the little arm that the solenoid was moving as well as the piston and spring from the solenoid. Now you can shift out of park without pressing the brake. No it's not a perfect solution, but way better than futzing with the shift lock release every single time it gets driven. Besides, if someone gets into your car to steal it, c that release is pretty common knowledge on almost every make and model, so this isn't really disabling any sort of anti theft thing. And the habit of pressing the brake to shift out of park is already so ingrained in everyone by now, I don't think it'll really be an issue. The owner of this car doesn't have small kids so no danger there either. Long story short, THANK YOU for this video!
Not only did this help me fix the shifter problem (although I just used a dremel tool to cut the white arm off instead), i did a complete carpet replacement so this helped me remove all the center console components. Thank you!!
@@cubanpapimiami true! And no they are out of the house. My only thought was u still have to push the button in on the shift knob to shift? I appreciate the thought! 👍
You know what?.....thank you....if I were a some millionaire's kid I'll give you 5000 bucks just for posting this video. It helped me A LOT! Got stuck in park this whole week and had no clue how to reach that part of the car. You make it look so simple and it was actually was...following you. Thanks a lot man.....Kudos to you, "muchisimas gracias y que dios te bendiga" P.S I didn't try to fix that metal plate inside though, I actually bought an used transmission control part with a good solenoid. But anyway...thanks a lot!
I bought repleacment switches off of Amazon since they had the brackets and took me two hours (because my retired neighbor just had to help) Thank you for covering the needed steps.
Hey man just want to say thanks for making this video ... I went to firestone they wanted to charge me $80 just to look at it and the dealer quoted me about $1000 with labor included,.. you made magic work here thanks again
Fantastic video. I applied your fix to my 2013 Sentra. It took me four hours start to finish , but it was worth it. Why should I pay Nissan, for a defect in their equipment!! No way this problem should show up in just 5 years of driving. There should be s recall. Found microswitch, like you showed, bent it up and it did the trick. My profuse thanks. You are the man!!!
Kevin Black yes Sentra and altima share a lot of similar components. I’m so happy to hear my video helped you out. Please subscribe to my channel to get more altima updates
You really are great and thanks for sharing your idea, it took me 30 minutes to complete the work and it turned out very well, the truth is that the Nissan dealer will not be happy with what you are doing and showing the world how bad they are in blessing you something that is not worth it are a scam. Thank you for sharing, you have saved me 1000 dollars
You were right, thanks so much for posting. You must have saved me from a $1,500.00 dealer bill for a re-bent piece of metal. Thank you so much...you the best!!!!
Awesome demonstration. Most of these other dyi videos leave the simple but IMPORTANT stuff out which sometime makes it impossible to follow. Thank You.
Wow you’re my hero. I’ve had this issue with my 2013 Altima for 4 years now. The dealership wanted to charge me $700 to “replace the whole part because that little piece isn’t sold by itself”. I will have a friend try this. Thank you! There were no helpful videos when the problem started. You rock! I will follow up with my results 😊
Thanks for giving the live video explanation..how long can you use the screwdriver to activate button to put the car in gear? What state are you located in? Do you take customers? And if you do, how much do you charge... Please Advise!
Thank you so much buddy for weeks was trying to figure this problem out and just in time for Mother’s Day my wife is going to be happy when she wakes up thank you again so much
Great video, very helpful. Instead of bending the metal and risking something else failing later on down the line, I just cut the top off the entire plastic tab with a Dremel. Don’t really care about the safety interlock. I don’t know how you were able to pull that trim off like it was nothing, I swear every piece of trim that I pull off takes 2-3x the amount of force you used and I’m afraid it was going to snap off in my hand. I guess there’s an art to it. Not to mention like many in the comments, a shop quoted $900+ to fix the issue. Totally worth it to just do this instead.
Sir, THANK YOU for saving me a bunch of money!! I should point out here that this was the exact issue with my 2013 Nissan Versa. The only difference was the color of the wires running to the switch. Again, THANK YOU!!
Good evening my name is Shannon Lovett I want to definitely say I definitely subscribed and rung the bell this video has saved me thousands of dollars on repair cost it had all the information I need I was able to successfully and very easily change out the gear shifter likely I had the exact car as well many thanks
Thank you so much for detailed instruction. I was able to fix my issue. However, after 3 weeks, it started causing the same issue again.. did i do anything wrong the first time? any tips?
Outstanding video! Thanks for sharing it... I have a 2013 Altima, I followed every step. I had to use a pick to get some of the mouldings off. It took a hour and a half to fix. Shifts out of park perfectly now.
Amazing tip! Also.. if you are doing this on a 2015 Pathfinder or similar.. you only have to remove the center console with the cupholders etc, not the rear vent covers or any side panels. The small metal tab that you bend is visible in the gap on the drivers side, with 2 small hook tools or similar you can bend it while its still in place!
Amazing Video. Quick, Simple, and Easy to follow. Thank you for doing a great tutorial on how to fix this issue. You did it in 10 minutes and I did it in an hour but who's counting.
Great video. Dealer quoted $950 to replace the shifter. My switch wasn’t working at all. I used a jumper wire and determined the switch was bad. Then it started working on its own. Replacement switch is less than $40 for upper and lower so I’ll order them to have on hand if it stops working again.
I cannot begin to tell you how appreciative I am that you made this video. I am fairly handy but there is no way I could have done this job without this video. I have a 2013 Nissan Altima with the same issue. I followed the video step by step, pausing and rewinding when I needed to. Spoiler alert, it worked GREAT and the vehicle is working again. The only caveat is that it is a little more difficult to put it all back together than it first appears, but just take your time and work in reverse and it can be done. Again, many thanks for making this video, I've given it a like and a subscribe.
Great video. I actually managed to fix it without removing the whole shifter assembly. Once you lift up the center console/cupholder trim, you can crawl down low and get under the shifter and pull out the switch. I also did this with the car in park.
Hey bro so I’m always hesitant when I see repair videos like this. I’m good with cars too but with this I had no idea where to start. but I figured trying this would be better than dropping 600 bucks at the dealership. Anyhow I have a 2013 pathfinder. Getting the center console out was a little different but aside from that I performed the repair like you showed and my god it worked. Just wanted to say thanks. Saved me a trip to the dealer and a bunch of money.
Good looking out!! I got a 2016 Altima with a funky smell.. and thanks to your video I was able to remove the center console and eliminate that smell 👃 Thanks man
That's not the purpose of this video but I'm happy it helped you out too maybe your Altima will but stuck in park one day and you'll know exactly what to do
Yen, thanks for this video! It was just perfect. I appreciated the demo on how to test the results before re-assembly. You just saved me $800 or more at the dealer....and that was money I didn't have to give.
Thank you for making this video! You saved me a lot of money! I've shared your video on a Facebook group for Altimas. Hopefully you gain likes and subscribers!
Yep, fixed. Mine would have to stop working in the middle of February. Thanks for taking the time to show us how it is done. How long has the bend fixed lasted? Read other video post stating it lasts “only a few months” to “haven’t had a problem in years”.
Wow, a very detailed walkthrough, and a HUGE money saver!!!! Unfortunately for me, it looks like a lot has to be disassembled, maybe too much especially since I know ZERO about cars. However I very much appreciate your video, it’s definitely going to help out a lot of people.
Nissan in Ohio wanted me to drop my car off.... so they could figure out the problem! They shut down will know what the problem is already, if I can easily find it on UA-cam. Thanks to this video, I am doing this right now with my wife’s father. Thanks for taking the time, to save us common people over $1000 worth of charges.

I was having same problem on a 2007 Nissan Sentra S. We took whole gear assembly out and put a different one on. It doesn't get stuck in park anymore but gets stuck on drive or neutral. We're thinking it was the gear shifter handle is the problem or solution. I'm ordering a universal shifter cause the one for Nissan are too expensive. Thanks for the video.

@@cubanpapimiami Good to know. Thanks
Thanks!
Douglas Higgins I greatly appreciate your criticism. We can only do better by acknowledging our own faults.
Wassup man, I recently just started having this issue. Do you have an pointers or tips? I wanna tackle this Saturday hopefully
It’s real simple but it did to again. I probably get a new part
@@obe1canobe146 yea I ended up just folding a thick piece of paper up and wedging it in the shift lock compartment🤷🏽♂️. It was quick and simplle
Thank you so much for this video. I not only was able to fix my car but ended up fixing my friends car as well. Your video saved us $1400 dollars.
Man let me just tell you thanks a million you just saved me $800 but also another lesson learned. I just finished putting mine back together and it works just fine.
Your video helped me fix my wife’s Altima. Your video was excellent. Many many many thanks!!! You rock!!!!
Thank you!!
@@mrr5835 the little white arm is a safety feature I hope you don't have any kids
You don't have to be a millionaire to donate my cash app is $yenestelles any amount helps God bless
Awesome video! Fixed the wife’s car in 30 mins! (Had to hit pause a few times). 2013 Altima 3.5 would not shift. Was quoted bad shifter cable.
I bought repleacment switches off of Amazon since they had the brackets
and took me two hours (because my retired neighbor just had to help)
Thank you for covering the needed steps.
A new switch is nice but the electrical contact inside your original one is not bad.the metal tab is what bends out of its original shape
Kevin Black min
Kevin Black same here and same car.
Man this video was perfect and exactly what I needed to get in my car with my father-in-law to fix my car. Thank you so much and keep up the good work
Thank you. So far so good. Been dealing with this issue for over a year. All it took was a bit of grease on the solenoid actuator arm.
Seriously, I just did this today on my 2013 Altima and it’s working great. Saved me $730!
Thank You.
you saved me $750 and it was super fun to spend an hour fixing my car! Thank you!!
Dude, you just saved me $1,000 (Nissan Dealership quote for this job). Thank you very much.
Great video, I had the same problem on my 2013 Altima and i was able to fix it step by step following you video on less than a hour. Thank you
Saved the day! I checked all the other switches and found they were good yet, no fix. Found your instruction and voila ! nice work..
Thanks! Saved me 938 dollars with this vid. You're awesome
Chris Leslie your welcome glad I could help
Thanks for giving the live video explanation..how long can you use the screwdriver to activate button to put the car in gear? What state are you located in? Do you take customers? And if you do, how much do you charge...
Please Advise!
Thanks homie. Took me 15 minutes and it’s fixed. I love UA-cam.
Thank you so much buddy for weeks was trying to figure this problem out and just in time for Mother’s Day my wife is going to be happy when she wakes up thank you again so much
Thank you so much!!! I did exactly what you did and now my car works perfectly. You will be my go to guy from no on.❤️❤️
Thanks so much for this!! Saved me $1000!!!! My husband and I tackled this in 30 min!!
Thank you for the donation I highly appreciate it. But most of all I'm happy you were able to do it yourself !
Yen post your paypal link so we can "tip" you. The trick worked great on my 2014 Altima, finished in under 1 hour! Thank you!
Seriously, I would send a tip.
My cash app is $yenestelles
Salute to you bro i did it with the help of your video.....you helped many of people who dont know about this problem how to solve it.
Your video was a big help. I knocked this out during my lunch break at the office. Start to finish took me only 25 minutes!
Sir, THANK YOU for saving me a bunch of money!! I should point out here that this was the exact issue with my 2013 Nissan Versa. The only difference was the color of the wires running to the switch. Again, THANK YOU!!
I have a manual Altima that has a bunch of trash and food stuck under the e brake lever. This helped me get in there to clean it thanks!
ALMResources Free fix !!
Bro you just saved me 600 bucks!! Works as advertised. Thank you!!!! 🙏🏻
Great video. Dealer quoted $950 to replace the shifter. My switch wasn’t working at all. I used a jumper wire and determined the switch was bad. Then it started working on its own. Replacement switch is less than $40 for upper and lower so I’ll order them to have on hand if it stops working again.
The switch has plenty of life. the metal tab just needs a little persuasion
Thanks to your video, you saved us $900. It took me about 2 hours to fix. Thank you for sharing this video.
Many many thanks! Repair worked perfectly! Keep up the excellent work and thank you for sharing! Only took about 40 min to fix!
Thankyou so much!! Saved me so much money! Me and my bf fixed it within an hour and 30min 🙏🏽
Thank you very much man!!! Your video is amazing. I got a quote of $1280 and your step by step instructions helped me save $$$
Good looking out!! I got a 2016 Altima with a funky smell.. and thanks to your video I was able to remove the center console and eliminate that smell 👃
Thanks man
That's not the purpose of this video but I'm happy it helped you out too maybe your Altima will but stuck in park one day and you'll know exactly what to do
Yen, thanks for this video! It was just perfect. I appreciated the demo on how to test the results before re-assembly. You just saved me $800 or more at the dealer....and that was money I didn't have to give.
Kirk Tinsley so happy I was able to help you.
King 43 it's the flick of the wrist
Nissan dealership in PA wanted $900+ and I watched this video twice before I just said imma do it and boom I just saved myself $900+. Do you have a cash asp ? You deserve it
Many people have reached out to me to thank me and I really appreciate all of those who have reached out to tip me,the title of my video is FREE. But if you insist my cashapp is $yenestelles
Thank you so much!! It took my dad and I about an hour since I have a different model. But this was so helpful and awesome! Thank you so much. You saved me hundreds of dollars
Just did this on my 2018 Nissan Altima. It’s a bit different but this video definitely helped a lot. Thank you!
Dude…. My dude…. You are my freaking hero. I can’t…. I just can’t. Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow Thank you Very much for DIY I’ve had this problem for a year and is now fix thanks to your video.
I Appreciate your time 🙏
