This Porsche Cayman GT4 has been massaged by the professionals at Sharkwerks of Northern California with a specific strategy in mind: take what Porsche does to turn a GT3 into a GT3 RS, and then apply that formula to the Cayman GT4. It's got a bit more power, a bit sharper response, a lighter flywheel, and, most importantly, it's been re-geared for maximum performance.

I feel like Matt gets wet dreams about a good turning radius
You have no idea. I track most of my motorcycle and when you nail a corner perfectly, especially over 100 mph so low you could scrape your elbow its awesome. Different in a car, but the feeling is pretty much the same.
Porsche flat 6 engines are hands down among the best sounding engines.
UA-camr not even close in my opinion.
Porsche flat 6's sound like Subaru's? they sound nothing like a Subaru. Unless that Subaru has equal length manifolds, then maybe its similar. but the inline 6 cylinders are in a different league, not better or worse, just a different league. each one has a beautiful sound to it
+UA-camr Best sounding 6 cylinder is definitely the e46 BMW M3 CSL
zemekiel nope that'd be the 997 gt3 rs 4.0 or 991 gt3
The Corvair Turbo sounded great.
That's probably the best sounding Porsche I've ever heard.
TheDonBarracuda shit sounds like a refined V8
I've been drooling over 911s for a long time, but the more and more I learn about Caymans, they seem like an awesome choice for a first Porsche.
Actually, a lot of enthusiasts prefer the Cayman over the 911 because it's lighter and the engine is in the right place, which provides for perfect balance, without the need for all of the computer intervention used on the 911. Don't get me wrong, I love the 911 too, but I'd rather own a slightly modified Cayman, like this one, and spend less than the cost of a 911.
Am much cheaper! Other than center exhaust the older ones look good
Especially cause Porsche keeps the Cayman locked in the basement in terms of real capability so some mods could make it faster around a track than a 911
I wanted to say the same thing.
People complain about cost of tuning packages but they spend thousands on color of stitching, brake calipers and seatbelts.
West Senkovec IKR
Yeah t hey just want a cheap very generic GTR kits that they can put themselves.
Yes, but those features usually aren't completely lost in resale. While tuning packages devalue the car, and are worth nothing used, unless you have an exhaust or turbo to sell.
what if someone doesnt want to resell? what's the point of customizing if you plan to resell? Stock cars sell best
True 💯
Everyday I fall in love with a different car, yesterday it was a Lancia Delta, today a GT4.
Agreed
The sound on those flybys....
I've watched this video something like 20 times, just because it sounds so good. I would NOT get the V8 Cayman. If I wanted a Mustang, I'd get one. This is what a Porsche should sound like.
@s n There is.
God that thing sounds awesome so clean, that Porsche flat six exhaust note there is nothing like it.
Listen to that Massive voice crack at 2:17 😂
ahahahah
I thought it was Scooby doo!
im in tears 😂
I literally thought the car was broken when that happened!
@thesmokingtire
this car really sold me on porsches. i would take a cayman gt4 over a nissan gtr anyday now...and especially one like this.
Ethan Sutton I totally understand you. I love Jdm cars but Cars made by Porsche sounds so awesome and the look is iconic In my opinion.
The GTR might be faster on a track but no way is it as much fun on a twisty road.
Faster
You say Faster but you have no idea who is behind the wheel...A drag race is no indication of a great sports car...I run circles around cars on the track with more horsepower than me....But my cars are all well sorted and handle amazing. my 911 4S with Full Fabspeed Intake, Exhaust and Tune is fabulous. It also has HKS Springs and Swaybars....It is easily the best car I ahve ever dirven and I have driven my share of Ferraris and Lambos' etc...Drive one just once and you'll know!!!!
It rains a lot here, I’d take the gtr
Love what they did with this car, sounds awesome.
Sounds gooooooooooood.
Nothing is better than a naturally aspirated engine.
except a turbocharged one.
Doctor Jack looking at your profile, I doubt that you have ever driven any good naturally aspirated car. If I was you, I'd probably say the same nonsense.
Isn't it past your bedtime?
Not even close. Especially not if you dont want to overheat constantly on a road course.
Yeah, turbo cars can be pretty tough to keep cool when you're on a track and it's 95*/35*+ out. Even n/a cars can have issues.
This is why flat 6's are still number one in my books for the best sounding engines. Hell of a sound, hell of a car!
The best part about nights shifts, get home right when you release your videos. Awesome
i agree
Shadilay night shifts are awesome its like hacking the world wish I had a night job again.
Owning a Porsche has been added to my bucket list. I'm just falling in love with cars made by Porsche.
I'm waiting for the Macan GT5. Diesel.
0to60videos we have them in europe and they suck :)
RazorFX What?? The Macan diesels are universally praised. Especially the S.
Everyone says the diesel model is the best value...idk what Razor is talking about
I can assure you, that if there will be a GT5 platform, it will definitley be based on the MLB Panamera. I'd even go as far as suspecting that a possible GT5 might even be a hybrid.
0to60videos knowing the VW emissions scandal, the diesel Macan may come out in 4 years tbh
OHH DIS GON BE GUD!
5 mins in and i want this in my life!
The GT4 was designed so well! and Sharkwerks did exactly what was needed. sounds amazing!
Holy shit what a gem.
Josh Lee I love how they didn't just stupidly tune the car, but just perfected it
Sharkwerks is expensive, but worth every dime!
You are going to spend at least twice as much to get a little better car
Am I the only one who prefers the Cayman platform over the 911? (not including GT3, RS, R)
BT37 yes u are
It's because you have never driven a well sorted 911. They are simply king of the sports cars in any trim. I personally prefer the 997 T4S. Mine has a short shifter, Full Fabspeed Intake and Exhaust with thhe Fabspeed tune, HKS springs and spacers with the right bolts on the 19" Turbo Wheels. Fat Ass and Fast As Hell!!!
Everyone is. At least everyone I’ve heard talk about them say the Cayman is better than the 911. It’s what the 911 used to be. They got too big. Doug said Cayman GT4 is the best porsche since carrera GT
@@nandadwirendragraha1210 your wife and 2 amputee children
no
This car sounds fucking fantastic
I would rather have this than a Ferrari. Absolutely perfect car
oooooooor both :) this would obvs be the daily :)
This was awesome! PROPERLY modified Anything is what I hope for on this channel.
Dream car right here. Fixed the gearing on the best drivers car. Fixed it's only issue. Amazing work Sharkwerks!
I don't know why they didn't just swap out the GT4 transmission and put in the transmission from the regular Cayman... the regular Cayman has much shorter gearing. Seems to me like that simple transmission swap would have accomplished almost exactly the same thing... it'd have probably been cheaper as well.
2nd gear is the main issue. 2nd gear max speed in the gt4 is 82, 2.7 liter 981 box 2nd gear max is 78. What it really needs is a more optimal final drive OR a true 1-6 modified gear set.
Thanks she's got more edge about her now:)
Blake Swan best drivers car is the '16 Chevy SS. It has dethroned the E39 M5 as the best sports sedan in history.
Atlas _ ummm yeah no its not but cool story
If I were wealthy...A Sharkwerks Caymen GT4 and a Singer 911 in my garage!
WikdSeafood u my friend have great taste and yes I agree
Great taste..
I find myself coming here from time to time and just enjoy the sound of this car!
Matt, the sound from that Cayman was incredible!! Best I have heard from the model!!!
I love Porsches. this car and the GT3 look amazing.
Matt you are true gift to the car community. Keep us entertained with your funny but informative videos.
This package with the blacked out GT4 I saw on Salmondrin's video... Dream car!
I remember when the Boxster showed up on the scene and I immediately thought, that's why the original 550 Spider was so great, the mid-engine architecture(As well as their incredibly light weight) of these beautiful cars. Then the Cayman arrived and they nailed it, the styling department as well, as far as I'm concerned. What great car indeed! :)
Damn I love my V8 and Corsa exhaust but this sounds incredible!! The flywheel and re-gear seem to make this the perfect sports car. Wow. Well done.
Thanks for this, Matt. 400+hp GT4 is an instant click for me
Epic one take Matt! I really like the sound of that GT4!
Sharkwerks = amazing! Love what they do with Porsche's! Well done Alex!
I love the sound of that Porsche flat 6 😍
You've been killing it lately with videos, keep em coming
Matt is always so chill and these guys are so uptight and would end the world over a 2 hp difference.
Some amazing content coming out of TST keep it up! 🍻🍻🍻
Sounds fantastic up and down through the gears and looks extremely well planted. Gearing doesn't seem so short that shifting becomes a PITA either. When 4th 5th and 6th gear get too close all you do is up and down shift constantly every 5 seconds. This seems really good.
I live 15 minutes from sharkwerks, makes me want a Porsche because there aren't many good tuners around here
Damn never heard a Porsche sound like that
***** Don't know, I think I know a thing or two about cars but I honestly always thought Porches always sounded kind of muted except for the gt3 rs
stock i agree, sounds like of muted. With an exhaust though that flat 6 sounds amazing.
they all sound like that....
The Porsche flat 6 is a magical engine my friend.
DannyLlerenaTV boxer 6, isn't it?
That is one beautiful and glorious sounding Porsche, damn!
the HD resolution really popped the visuals when I opened this link. +1 for that t-shirt, too!
Fast car, romantic exhaust note & rev matches by Matt... Lovely.
Great video here. I can only afford a 2006 Cayman S, but I love it to death, and made a little better with full Capristi exhaust and some suspension mods on 19 inch wheels.. I can only imagine what this one is like to drive. Epic sounds. The headline says 415 hp, surely that should read 425 hp, as its got an extra 40 over the stock 385. It was the first thing that caught my eye actually.
Sharkwerks is really an excellent Porsche aftermarket shop. I still have the 987 with RS350 and have been very happy with it on the street and on the track. This Cayman GT4 has taken the Cayman to nirvana levels but I'm sure 75% of the driving experience is accessible on the old Cayman S with a tune. Really good stuff.
The exhaust note are insane good.
Matt, I'd love to see some different external shots of the car while driving, either attached to the car or more drive-by's. I understand it's a little bit more time to set up and edit but I think it would take your videos to the next level. Loving the channel and the variety of cars.
and also the sound when shifting with the manual, ouh man, this is my dream car damnit...
Another great video. Thanks Matt!
the sound, the handling... im in love
i love what sharkwerks does to porsche...their GT3 is no joke and this is the first time im seeing their GT4!
Damn, that was nice. Great way to end the Cayman run.
this is the best looking Porsche I've ever seen. love this 911 but man.. the new Caymans are just beautiful.
I have watched this one take about 5 times. I am drooling every single time.
Matt, I envy you dude. You get to drive all the Porsches. I have to say I get why Sharkwerks changed out the gears and flywheel. I re-geared my G50 6-speed in my 993, the entire stack 1-6, new lsd, all parts sourced from Guard as well. Got lwfw, exhaust, tune, rs suspension, super sport tires.. Big $$ but It absolutely changes the character of the car. Much easier to drive with shorter gears and is definitely quicker.
Thanks for doing the videos, always enjoy the variety and the occasional vip guest. Also, well done Sharkwerks!
keep it up Matt.. love these vids
Alex is a great person to have on the show, informative in a way that doesn't make things complicated. Was also great on the Joe Rogan podcasts with Matt and Magnus if anyone is curious.
Oh my that sounds Amazing and more HP !!!!!
Sounds like a Porsche should. Wow. Love the tight gearing!
Damn that sounded amazing on the flyby!
Amazing sounding Porsche. Very nice
Amazing sound, bravo...!
Dream car... This is a perfect pinnacle/polished GT4 and it sounds AMAZING.
"First gear is still pretty long"
It's like you didn't listen to a word Alex said at the start of the video. *face palm*
But anyway, amazing work on that GT4 Sharkwerks!!!! The sound is mind-blowing!
justatemp2000 I was thinking the same thing... dude clearly said 1-2 was still the same... this guy comes off as a jackass at times...
Another great Sharkwerks build, very nice.
What a beauty of a car, gotta' love Porsche and GT4's
Great sound!!! good work!
3:43...Looks like the camera guy with the 675LT invited his 488 buddy to hang out
That 488 is the press car Matt made a video of.
Wow it sounds so gooooood !!
Now this is how to do a Cayman. Oh man it sounds awesome.
Omg that thing sounds amazing!!
AMAZING SOUND!
Wow, this is just perfect!
We need a POV of this car! My god what an amazing sound
Thanks for another fine vid!!
I am in love with these cars
If money was no option, this would be my choice, Cayman GT4 with Sharkwerk's turning... Bravo!
That exhaust though...sound phenomenal
Glorious glorious glorious... I want this car so badly.
This is the best sounding Porsche in the history of Porsches!!! 🎶
I'm from the UK, never been to the US but because of Matt, I know these canyon roads like the back of my hand. One day I shall visit 🙏
Shorter gearing is the one thing this car probably always needed. I'd do things for that particular GT4 right there.
Your maintenance throttle capabilities are so on point
Man, that sounds absolutely SICK! There's a white GT4 that runs around near my home.... god, I want one bad!
God it sounds fabulous!!!
2:18 what was that squeak dude?! Good review!
And do I hear some Australian/New Zealand/English in that guy's accent?
Henry Kincaid British sounds like!
Henry Kincaid he is British
Definitely British, but he's been in the US for a while as he has a twang of an American accent on certain words.
Born and raised in London but moved over here in 1998. Americanized:)
THAT sound! A true Porsche sound..
Sounds so good.
The new gear ratios seem to keep the motor right on the boil, perfect!
I wish you guys would have been quiet for a couple seconds so I could enjoy the sound of the exhaust. but overall a great looking car
Wow, love this car.
that thing sounds like Banshee! DOPE!
great sound
My dream car right there!
I'm really starting to like Porsche. I wonder if it's a sin to own a GTR and a porsche lol.
Bryan Casella Starting to?
Was never a fan, that's why I went with a GTR originally. Recently it's begun to change.
The answer is no, because cars are not a religion, just cars. Drive & own whatever you like.
I usually don't care for Porsche at all, not a fan of the 911. But I would take one of these in a heartbeat.
Bryan Casella do it! As a realtor too, I can see myself going to meet clients in a Porsche and enjoy it while getting there!
Sounds so good!
Thanks to vids like this I am slowly becoming a Porsche fan.
Drive one and it will be an obsession to own one. It gets under your skin....It is that good!!!
