How do you improve the Porsche Cayman GT4? Sharkwerks thinks it has the answer, with shortened gear ratios, a lighter flywheel, and more power. Over to DRIVETRIBE's Features Editor, Henry Catchpole…

I've always liked to diss Porsches out of some misplaced superiority that they all looked the same and how Clarkson back in the day was showing how specially the Cayman was done to fill a gap and nothing more, but I gotta take my proverbial hat off to the Cayman GT4. What a great looking machine, how it goes, how it sounds, and how mostly everyone seems to fall head over heels for it and also what a great racecar it makes, at least in IMSA where I've seen it. Great job Porsche, you finally got me.
Just listen to that wow. 2 of my top 3 car reviewers in Jethro and Henry on this. Amazing
tanafc96 I was sad to see them go from Evo, but now there's two channels with amazing reviewers!
I still love the rest of the guys back at Evo still :)
Yes! Catchpole is back. I was worried when he left EVO, but this is just as good
one of the most soulful modern engine
Roihan54 excruze me
Jethro? Alright, this channel is dope. Now Henry, too?! Subscribed.
Great video - Porsche flat six engine note, doesn't get much better than that!
5:41... I need new pants...
I, too, might have just wet myself ...
Sorry but I haven't got the point.
Ertan, play it a couple of times and you should get what they're talking about.
Downshift maybe?
I need new parts... Shortened 3-5th gear ratios, lightened flywheel and new Guards Transmission LSD. I have the Cargraphic sports headers, just need the IPD plenum and 997 GT3 82mm TB ;)
more night shots like that in the end
Catchpole and Bovingdon. The combo !!
Such an amazing car on such an amazing road. Glad you got to experience our little slice of heaven known as Angeles Crest Highway (ACH)!
The shortening of gears was certainly necessary.. wish I could drive this car instead. I drove a stock one and second gear went over 80mph.. by the time I just started 3rd I just didn't bother anymore.. fun's over, I'm on a public road, gotta calm down.
Glorious sound!
Christ these videos are good, so polished. Evo are at a loss without Henry and Jethro. How is DriveTribe monetised?
Dream cars: Sharkafied 981 GT4 and a Manual 991.2 GT3 in my garage 🙏
?? Did DriveTribe cop everyone at EVO??...If they did Great stuff !!..They make fantastic reviews
that was beautiful to watch..
The sound is just amazing 😉
Best car of all time according to me
Nice watch!
The drums at the end are terrifying, knock it off and i will re subscribe.
Agreed. They could at least reduce the volume or match it to the rest of the video.
Yeah the video fades out and then BANG BANG BANG. Gets me every time
Dat sound *closes eyes*
#PDKREXIT LOL. How can ANYONE dislike this video???? That 1 person who did must be stick shift challenged..
Is that the road on wich Duel 1971 movie was filmed
Brilliant
Excellence
4:55 ...... Kaboom?
As is, I would like to see a comparo on track between this Cayman GT4 Sharkwerks and a 911 GT3 ..... 'cause this should have been the real GT4 since the begining, but I believe they were afraid to easily make it better than the all mighty 911. just sayin.....
would love to know what watch he's wearing in this review!!
I think its an Omega Speedmaster.
needs a new normal gearbox from 1-6.
if its such a good car, why fuck with it?
needs 600 hp
wtf this this guy again ....i dont like him in evo and he is now here....he lack of emotion 110%.....sorry
radost0514 don't be sorry hes a bumhole
he has a bit of a rodent look too
Not even want, this falls under the car lust category. This one, along with a Boxster review Henry did in the mountains of Spain, are two of my favorite car videos of all time.
Fantastic video. I think it is a solid 12/10 video! Great job!
jethro....and henry?! Oh boy....
We need Steve Sutcliffe and we're done
no way. these two are very good and leave them alone
I meant this guys + Steve (he's a great racing driver)
damefaso i know. he isn't as good as these two
User996 That's your opinion and this is our opinion, no need to be a snowflake about it.
A solid 12/10 👏😏
Wow, the editing is excellent. Just as good as any Chris Harris video. Thanks.
Just one thing I want to know. Which would Jethro prefer, this or the NA2 NSX Type R he recently drove?
Is this Guy Martin's younger brother? :)
Angela's Crest (not "Angeleez" Crest, Mr. Catchpole) is Matt Farah's go-to road.
Its just called the Crest....if you go there that is. The official name is Angeles national forest
The GT4 doesn't have a "Carrera S motor with the Power Pack". The Carrera S withOUT the power pack still makes more power than the GT4 (400 vs. 385) and the Power Pack brought that to 430 in the Carrera GTS. Awesome video though.
ya, that comment was a little odd. It actually is more similar or exact to the 997.2 C2S DFI 385hp motor (no power pack) than it is the 991 C2S with 400 hp (no power pack). I wonder if the "power pack" comment comes in mistaking it with the 997.1 C2S X51 "power kit" that increases the HP from 355 to 381? Other than that, great video and car.
The GT4 has a 991 911 Carerra S engine strangled to make it fit into a sales niche. All GT4 owners need to let it free ;)
Great vid - 0:26 - fetid with praise ? Look it up :)
Henry schooling us on how it's done 3:24
Excellent video and tremendous cinematography, tremendous work as always fellas
7kg off the flywheel, long gears. what in all living hell is Porsche doing.
They were neutering. Protectionism at its worst.
That last shot overlooking the city was phenomenal!
Henry Catchpole.... Great to see you making excellent videos. looking forwards to many more.
Great video but I wish you had told us what each gear now actually tops out at. My understanding of the GT4 has been that 1st takes you to 52mph so even that could be reduced a little, but 2nd gear is the biggest problem on real-world roads - revving out to over 85mph. 3rd takes you on to 121mph and obviously, that makes it a gear you won’t exactly be exploring very often - plus you’ll lose a sense of the potential low down urgency. I’d love to see a solution that addresses the whole first 5 gears, perhaps leaving 6th as a more long-legged cruising gear. If we had gearing more similar to an older 911 Carrera it would be awesome. 40-ish mph in 1st, 70-ish mph in 2nd, just over 100mph in 3rd, around 130mph in 4th and then you can pull 5th and 6th out a bit for a decent top speed and more relaxed high speed cruising. I’d be really interested in a GT4 with a manual gearbox like that. 👌🏼
Thank you Henry for not being another snob from Europe and dogging on the great driving roads that we have to offer here in the US. Hopefully you guys get to showcase others like Tail of the Dragon, Hocking Hills, etc....
Very nice speedmaster. Car journalism seems to be a solid job.
I wasn't the only one who noticed 😁
Great video. Well done.
You're saying it's 11/10 car, but I would take away 2 points for the boring color and one more point for that in-your-face rear spoiler. So it's like 8/10 for me. _I know it's GT4, but can't argue with your own taste..._
So you guys are all united here on this channel? Will there also be content by Clarkson etc. or are they not involved any further? The content is fantastic! Thank you very much.
Nope, the trio works on published article on DT website. All videos job goes to both Jethro and Henry.Awesome isn't it?
I'd be surprised if this channel doesn't end up asking subscribers for money. Rupert Murdoch isn't going to bankroll Clarkson, Hammon, May and the bulk of the evo journos just for the fun of it...
So now both Henry and Jethro work at Drivetribe? This reminds me of a prior attempt that Chris Harris orchestrated with his ill-fated Drivers Republic, when he convinced Dickie and Jethro to come over from Eco. When the music stopped, Dickie was able to get back into evo, as was Chris (rather ironically). Unfortunately, Jethro got stuck at car magazine for a period, before ending up back at evo...
beautifully shot and great review.
Why is the collor grading so low contrast and blue? Congratz on the channel, we need more like these. But there will never be many of this kind, right?
Forget the car, just for the moment.
This was a beautifully photographed film, especially near the end in the sunset, where dear Henry went all poetic for us.
Gorgeous, thank you.
And the car was stunning and sounded as near to a race car as possible.
WF
All Caymans are true drivers cars, you just can’t go wrong with one no matter your budget 😜
Who dislikes this video? Boy... you don't even have to be a Porsche lover to love this
Do not talk!
Pure quality in many ways. Delightful. Thanks.
where was this filmed please? That's a fantastic road :)
I daily drive a Cayman S but this car is my dream car.
So raspy sounding! I love it!
Henry, what kind of watch are you wearing here?
That sounds absolutely brilliant!
Anybody know the track at the beginning?
Can sharkwerks do that to a car in the UK?
I would love a dogleg in my mx5
Drivetribe is criminally underrated
looked so amazing at night with the full moon
I wonder how it would fair against an M4 GTS on Track
Powaup it would lose
So glad to see this chanel popping up!
thanks for the Donnie Darko reference
no gt2 rs videos mhh
