The Main Quest line: Part 1 - The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (A Narrative)

  • In today's video, I begin my journey through the main quest line and story featured in the elder scrolls 3 Morrowind. The game begins with learning the basic controls and creating your characters. I decided to go as a Breton Spellcaster and picked the birth sign of the Mage. I was introduced to the province and thrown into the game. My first mission was to find a man named Caius Cosades in the the town of Balmora. Along the way, I decided to make some stops in local caverns and dungeons to gain more combat experience. I also stopped in the town of Pelagiad. Eventually, I went to the South Wall Corner Club and located Caius at his home. He made me a member of the Blades and gave me my first set of orders. I reported to Hasphat Antabolis of the Fighters guild, who sent me to the Dwarven ruins of Arkngthand, in search of the dwemer puzzle box. In exchange, he gave me information on the sixth house, Dagoth Ur and the Neravarine. Reporting back to Caius, he gave me my next set of orders. I went to the Mages Guild hall and spoke with Sharn Gra-Muzgob. In exchange for retrieving the skull of Llevule Andrano at the Andrano Ancestral Tomb, I was given information on the Neravarine Cult, the prophecies, and the Neravarine in general, all of which I reported back to Caius. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

Hahaha, using fire spells on Dark Elves in Morrowind is an ultra classic we all did. Gotta avoid it though, they have 75% resist fire. Nords are 100% immune to frost as well, etc. It’s real important to have multiple elements of damage in this game and to try to match it against the target to avoid resists. Resist magic also doesn’t reduce elemental damage in this game, meaning the Breton passive resist won’t help vs enemy battlemages.
It helps to use and create low cost spells too, 5-15 magicka range. Very easy to cast and very efficient to apply.
Just make sure to watch your elemental choices vs enemies!
    Good vid!

If Resist Magic doesn't work against elemental damage, then what DOES it do?

    • @Niji01
      @Niji01 Місяць тому +2

@@drewgoin8849 It resists every form of magic effect except elemental damage, paralyze, and silence. Thats how it used to worked in TES, only changing to include elemental damage and such in Oblivion and on.
It made elemental resists matter quite a bit. It also made the Breton and Orc resist magic passives not have an extreme effect on general combat in Morrowind specifically. In older games there were no playable Orcs and most player races were bugged and didn’t get any passives at all, so it’s mostly a Morrowind thing.
Basically the elemental damage effects had a special advantage over standard magic effects like damage health/drain health/demoralize in that they needed their own unique resists. It’s also why you see such large passive natural resists on Morrowind races. Nords with 100% immunity to frost and 50% resist shock and Dunmer with 75% resist fire, etc.
It also means that Altmer weakness to magic isn’t such an extreme problem and is why they also have a weakness to elements, because they don’t stack. Same thing with the power balance of the Apprentice birthsign.
Hope that helps explain it a bit, haha.

Mage is my favorite playstyle in morrowind, so I understand how rough it can be to start. I would recommend getting a spell that doesn't do fire damage. Most non monster enemies are dunmer, and they take 50% less fire damage. Your fatigue also effects your chance to cast a spell as well as your chance to hit with a weapon, so try to keep that high. Good luck and I hope you join house telvanni!
P.S another fast travel option is the guild guides in the mages guild. They charge money, but they can teleport you to four or five different cities all across vardenfell and the price decreases as you rank up in the guild

This is amazing! I always wanted to play Morrowind but the closest I got was morroblivion which I sadly couldn’t complete due to game-breaking bugs.
Your videos got me through some rough times earlier this year when I had some medical issues (seizures). My mind would run wild worried about the next one and these videos calmed me down. I'm better now but this is still my favorite channel.
My favorite game of all time was Oblivion and those videos are my favorite, but Morrowind seems amazing. My Skyrim is modded to be high fantasy & resemble Oblivion (Skyrim music is replaced with Oblivion music, snow is replaced with fall leaves etc…) so it is not exactly lore-friendly, but I still prefer the Oblivion high-fantacy world.
It would be amazing once you cover all of Morrowind, to see you also do videos someday about Skyrim with more of an upbeat oblivion high fantasy storytelling.
Skyrim, ESO, The Witcher 3, Zelda games, BG3 would all be amazing to see you cover someday with your upbeat narration.
    Please keep making videos!

Good job on your first day fighting through Morrowind's persistent horde!
Avoid sprinting in this game, which drains your character's green bar, which directly lowers your hit chance down to zero depending on your main combat skills. Walking in this game significantly lowers your speed to a frustrating crawl, but it also regenerates stamina
Taking on the main questline from the get-go is a herculean task, so progressing through one of the guild questlines is not a bad idea, as the first few quests from them involve weaker enemies, free gear and access to the guild's commodities (beginner chest, skill trainers, quick travel in the mage's guild, etc)
As a tip, the caves around Seyda Neen contain useful gear. There should be one more cave to look for around this village, but you can easily find out where it lays
Finally, the ninja guy is part of a high-level DLC. Killing him for his gear is worth it, but you could also disable him using a patch which delays him from spawning until you're combat ready

Fun playthrough, but as others have mentioned by now, you gotta get some ice/lightning to deal with Dunmer, they take 75% reduced fire damage!! You're only dealing 25% damage with that fireball and most enemies in this game are going to be Dunmer. Arrille sells ice and lightning magic or you can join a magically inclined faction like the Mages Guild or House Telvanni and buy some from them. BTW those blades trainers Caius mentioned are actually pretty useful to go out and find, especially because going to visit all of them will help you explore the western half of the island a bit in the process. Your weapon choice of spear was very good actually, for a mage it's probably the best choice since spears go into Endurance attribute (which gives you more max HP + Fatigue and which you otherwise would lack since you didn't pick medium/heavy armor) have a long reach, and don't need block skill to go with. You will find many powerful spears during the game if you keep playing, don't worry about the axe in the stump 🤣

I'll make a bit of a running collection of notes. This will be a long comment. Sorry in advance
Welcome to Morrowind! It's great to see more fans back track to this one. It was my first TES game and it's what got me into the RPG genre
It was more discussed in your first video but if you find failed casting and weapon misses annoying, remember it is about your *CHARACTER* skill and not yours. Presumably you mess up the incantation for the spell or your weapon swing was predictable and dodged. This gets better with practise. It just needs a little imagination on your part
Reading skill books will help explain the theory behind these mechanics (or in fact any lore book). "The Rear Guard" is a personal favourite that explains light armour usage
Watch those skeleton archers. You can get unlucky like I did and they spawn with paralysis arrows. That's a bad time
Bonewalkers have fascinating lore. They are not like the zombies of Oblivion (the dead magically reanimated) or draugr of Skyrim (worshippers that are having their life stretched and siphoned over millenia). They are guardians of Dark Elf tombs made using the spirit of a disgraced family member placed in what can only be described as a cursed meat sack and driven mad. Just wait for the Greater Bonewalkers. Easily the cruelest enemy in a modern TES game. The lore is very VERY deep especially if you go looking for it outside regular gameplay/story

Funny thing too I don't think anyone else said yet, if you have any elemental resistances items equipped or due to your race you choose, enemies will make the effort to use other spell types they might have to damage you. Or in cases of Flame, Frost or Storm Atronachs, if you have 100% resistance of whichever you're fighting they'll use their fists to start fighting you

Ah the good old Dark Brotherhood assassin a.k.a (almost) infinite money farm.
One of my major grievances with tribunal is that it starts way too early spoiling a whole chunk of the early game experience in my opinion.
If you manage to defeat the assassin you get great upper mid game light armor, letting you skip a whole bunch of cool starter gear like netch leather or chitin.
And the fact there is no real limit on assassin encounters until you start the tribunal main quest means you get tons of gold right from the start.
A level requirement for starting the tribunal events would have easily fixed this. It would also be more lore accurate and confuse less new players that way since doing the tribunal quest at level 1 is definitely not recommended.

Iirc, you can actually stop the dark brotherhood attacks relatively easily. You have to go to the mainland and talk to one particular person and then there won't be any more attacks, and they stop interrupting your rests. I had to do that in my playthrough

    • @Nimariel
      @Nimariel Місяць тому

The best thing to do is just grab a mod that will delay the attacks until you have reached a certain high level or completed a significant part of the main quest.
There’s a nice simple mod like that on the Tamriel Rebuilt site. (Recommended Mods on the main Downloads page).

    • @DLBBAM
      @DLBBAM Місяць тому

I think that stolen items work like this:
Every item can be assigned an owner in the construction kit. If you take an item with an owner assigned, it is considered stealing. But you weren't caught in the act then you will get in trouble ONLY if you then try to sell it to the owner and maybe those with a close association to the owner I don't remember exactly.
So you can steal an item from let's say a merchant, and if you try to sell it to that merchant you get caught. BUT you can just leave and sell it to someone else with no trouble. I think that's how it works anyway. I don't remember exactly, because there's a work around.
It gets sticky when you have a lot of stuff and can't remember who it belongs to, then wind up trying to sell it to the wrong guy.
But here's the kicker. You can grab an item that is marked with an owner and just drop it, and that erases the ownership tag. You're still in Truckee if you were caught in the act the first time, but once you drop it it's free game. You can drop it right in front of a guard and pick it up with no problem. Now you can pick it back up and do whatever you like with it.
The real crime here, though, is that he didn't snatch the limeware platter in the census office.
For a long time I didn't realize you got to keep it when the guard caught you for stealing it. I for some reason thought you just didn't get fined but the item was still confiscated. So I would always steal and then drop it before the guard got to me, then pick it back up after we had our little chat with and no one would care, because it was no longer marked as being owned by anyone therefore it wasn't considered stealing any more.

The first tip is that Fatigue, stamina is EVERYTHING in morrowind, hit chance, success rate performing spells, buying and selling etc. And my second tip is that while there are essential NPC'S none have immortality. @@ABardsBallad I'm not sure what version of morrowind your playing but as far as Fatigue goes in unpacked versions of the game and GOTY edition the coding for armorer has a mistake. Instead of your success rate depending on your fatigue being full instead your success rate with repairs is better when the fatigue bar is drained.

I would really recommend playing with a bit bigger view distance. I enjoyed my playthroughs much more with this, though maxing this out is kind of immersion breaking. But able to see landmarks from far , especially in mid to late game with your magical abilities by then, is just something very nice. I guess the developers would have made a bigger raw distance if it wasnt for the technical limitations. But also foggyness is a part of morrowind haha

A DLC delay mod is optional in later Elder Scrolls and Fallout games (incl. New Vegas)-it's absolutely _essential_ for Morrowind. Dealing with late game Dark Brotherhood assassins at level 1 is NOT the intended vanilla game experience (Tribunal, as a paid retail expansion was designed to be installed towards the end, or after a main playthrough), no matter what anyone says. You can beat them, but then you end up with economy breaking top-tier gear which is no fun at all, unless you're a spreadsheet loving min-max ghoul who hates role-playing.
There are high-profile, _very reliable_ mods that fix this, that I (as an insufferable purist) consider _essential bug-fixes_ to both a vanilla engine and OpenMW game.

The spell from the door was a trap; you can disarm them in a couple ways.
there in fact is a constant effect ring near seyda neen as well as a decent amount of gold.
it doesn't say so; but clothing effects disposition.
weight effects your fatigue drain iirc; so i usually make a stash to come back to; using mark/recall and intervention to get the goods out when all is said and done.
i too missed the cube and killed the entire ancestry of the dwemer.
in 3rd person your charcter will shield their eyes from ash storms; but im pretty sure they chose to keep it there because of shields blocking sight.

I totally forgot to add (a little long, bear with me) -
I've played Morrowind half a dozen times. My husband, on the other hand, has played it for about thirty minutes. Here's why.
He made a Redguard and named him Broguard. As Broguard began his adventures, my husband decided to do a running monologue using the voice of Tim Meadow's SNL character The Ladies Man. This mostly consisted of Broguard being discomfited at Caius' shirtlessness and telling the Blades agent that his nipples were very distracting.
Broguard decided that jumping off the Balmoral silt strider platform into the Odai river outside the town would be a keen shortcut. He flung himself skyward, shouted 'Hooray for water!', and promptly shmacked into the shallow riverbed and died.
That's where my husband left him, forevermore. So now whenever I go over that bridge toward the Fort or dwemer ruin, I call it Broguard Bridge in his honor.
His legend lives on in my heart.
