In a brand new interview with the WGRD 97.9 FM radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan, SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor spoke about "Killpop", the third single from the band's latest album, ".5: The Gray Chapter".
"You know, what's funny [is] over the last few weeks, I've really gotten everyone's interpretation of what that song means to them, and it's nowhere near what I wrote about," he said. "So it's kind of interesting to hear people's interpretations of what I'm singing about. And I'll be honest with you: the song is my reflection on my relationship with music. That's who the 'she' is. And not just music, but the music industry in general. So there's a love-hate relationship there that really kind of comes into view."

The "she" of this song is the music industry. Now, look at the lyrics again and it's a much different song. You go to a basic relationship to start. Knowing what it's about, can totally change how you interpret the lyrics.

The thing about the twins in the video is that they look identical at first glance but when they stand side-by-side, facing the same direction, you see they are actually designed to be reflections of each other when they face each other. Which is further metaphor for the love-hate relationship Slipknot has with the music industry itself. Corey can't tell who needs each other more. The band or the record label? So they feed off of each other for their own selfish reasons and THAT makes for a toxic relationship in general. The smacking of the barrel was all Shawn's idea and as much as I do love it too I can't help but appreciate the fact that Shawn now has nerve damage in his right arm from smacking a steel keg with an aluminum bat for 20+ years.

In my opinion, given what you were talking about, since in movies the good guy usually wins, the bad guy has to be convincing. That's where a writers talent has to flourish, we have to be convinced the good guy has no chance. It must take a lot of work.

BUT... The Joker DOES win in the end of The Dark Knight. He gets so much into Batman's head that Batman violates the citizens of Gotham's right to privacy by making Lucius Fox turn his cell phone into a large Sonar just to find him. Batsy crossed both the lines of morals and ethics and cannot uncross them. So, in a sense, The Joker won.

Probably my least favourite on the album aside from Goodbye. Not a bad track but the others (such as Sarcastrophe and Skeptic) are more enjoyable for me. Glad you're still checking out Slipknot! I recommend Mushroomhead - Bwomp, if you're looking to be blown away by a great track. It's from 1996 and it's phenomenal.
