i've decided to do an animated dress and a gold dress edition of the series, so some dresses that you might've expected in this may be in those future videos! we're halfway through the normal rainbow now~ (next will be green, blue, purple, and we'll end with black before moving onto gold/silver!) thanks for loving this series so much and inspiring me to keep going 🥺
I love this series so much! When you search for dresses, don't forget Nefertiti's dresses in The Ten Commandments and Ruth's in The Story of Ruth! They (and other characters) have gorgeous dresses in many different colors (blue, green, orange, golden, silver, pink, etc.)!
'the ten commandments' is one of those cases where i love one dress so much (the blue one), that i can't bother with any others. another movie like this is 'in the mood for love' which technically has a bunch of different color dresses, but i love the lime-green dress SO MUCH that it's going to be the only one i'll feature in the series.
you know what color has been surprisingly absent during my research? purple! it's such a gorgeous color and it's honestly used very rarely (about on par with orange)
The dress she wore in Sabrina... and the way she danced in the tennis court scene will literally never leave my memory. Such a beautiful and timeless dress, film, and actress
When she was a child, about ten years old or so, she was living in Germany at the time the Nazis were coming to power, and at risk to her own life, would sneak out of her parents' home (they were, sadly, Nazi sympathizers) and perform ballet recitals to raise money for the resistance. Fast forward to her later years, and she was a spokeswoman for UNICEF, working directly with the people in the nations UNICEF provides relief for. She truly was an example of a woman every bit as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside!
The design for that movie was, in general, one of my favorite historical fantasy interpretations given how much rococo style seemed to be included. They really took a whimsical approach to a lot of costumes and I loved it. I also love Lily Collins which makes it even better.
@@itscjrodgers Ugh, yes!! I was only about 8 when I saw it at the cinema, but it left such a big impression on me. It's such an underrated movie, extremely beautiful and fun!

Beautiful. I think yellow is underutilized in film because people immediately link it with happiness/innocence, we often see ingenues or naive characters wearing yellow. But in reality yellow has such versatility and a tremendous potential for sensuality.
I just need to put this out there, I loved “Mirror Mirrors” costumes and dresses especially for Snow, all of her outfits were on point and so gorgeous 😍.

This was my mother's favorite color. Came for the incredible dress worn by Mia Wasikowska in Crimson Peak & Sharon Stone's in Casino, was pleasantly surprised to see the Poison Ivy dress (!!!) and the Young Victoria again!! You never forget her amazing dresses, thank you so so much🍯⚡💛
Fantastic choices. I LOVE that gown in The Man in the Iron Mask. Such an underrated film, IMO. Those parent trap twin outfits, where you could see such a clear distinction between the styles but where both twins still looked good, were also fabulous.
Did you know that Henry the VIII and his mistress Anne Boleyn wore head to toe yellow to Catherine of Aragon's funeral (the king's first wife)? This was considered VERY offensive and tacky! In the Middle Age, Yellow was thought to be a happy colour but it also signified envy, as it was considered gold's poor parent (because in european religious art, gold was used to substitute yellow often) 😉
It also was a color associated with mourning in Catherine’s native Spain, so it is possible Henry and Anne wore it as a sign of respect. That said, we weren’t there so it’s impossible to know for sure.
Though it may not be as vibrant of a yellow depending on the lighting. I feel like Padmés picnic dress from Starwars: Attack of the Clones is really beautiful and underrated.
I remember the first time I saw guernsey literary and potato peel pie society, the shot of the yellow dress in the shop window had me grown from its ugliness, and yet in the next shot with lily James wearing it it was totally transformed. The power of a beautiful woman.
