One of her frequently worn shades was swatched from an exact dupe on camera along with an actual pic of Marilyn wearing it and it reveals that the color is straight up pumpkin orange rather than a ruby red which many thought was the original shade) I guess she really did have a thing for orange 🍊 🧡

While historically inaccurate, the orange dress from Cleopatra is one of the more stunning ensembles Elizabeth Taylor wore. And the Zuël dress from Ghostbusters had a lasting impression giving off an ethereal occult vibe .
I’m so happy you included Marilyn’s orange dress! People never talk about that dress when discussing her iconic looks but I honestly think it’s one of her best and it perfectly contrasts Jane Russel’s navy dress in that same scene.
I love Doris Day's backless orange sequin dress in "Do Not Disturb". And the matching white maxi coat with orange sequin lining! The moment when she takes off the coat is stunning.

I know it's not a "real" dress, but for yellow I don't think you can really get around Belle's dress from animated Beauty and the Beast movie. It's telling how mad people were at the remake. The original one is iconic and honestly, imo, it deserves to be on the yellow list, even if it's drawn
My absolute favorite yellow dress has to be the one that Grace Ferrell wears in 1982’s Annie. It’s the first time we see her wear something that isn’t completely structured or business-centered, and allows her to freely move as she pleases. It’s a turning point in her character arc in the movie musical that is very clear-cut. The yellow and the lightness of the dress as she twirls and dances shows off how completely elated she is to know that they get to spend their lives with Annie. And I’ve been wanting that dress ever since I saw it.
absolutely love the under the tuscan sun dress. it's the scene where she realizes her dreams at the start of the movie come true, and we feel her self possession and contentedness - a rare representation we get for older, single, and childless women characters
I love the focus on history and historical dress in these videos! This one was particularly good and unexpected. Idk why but orange just doesn’t come up as an iconic color often so I’m glad you gave it a spotlight 🧡
💛 choices for yellow 💛 Cher (Alicia Silverstone) - yellow plaid skirt suit from Clueless Andie (Kate Hudson) - yellow slip dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Anne Boleyn (Genevieve Beaujold) - yellow Tudor ensemble in Anne of the Thousand Days Edited because I thought of more fabulous yellow film ensembles: Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) - yellow Tudor ensemble in Elizabeth: The Golden Age Marilyn Miller (Judy Garland) - yellow ruffled dance dress in Till the Clouds Roll By, the song is "Who?" (Fun fact: she is about 4 months pregnant with Liza Minnelli in this scene and her dress doesn't quite conceal it so if you look closely you can see both Judy and baby Liza on camera LOL) Nadine Hale (Ann Miller) - yellow and black dance dress in Easter Parade for the showstopper "Shaking the Blues Away". Not sure how I forgot Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Animated or live action version worn by Emma Watson.
You covered so many of my favourite characters and costumes! Lorelei, Queen Sybilla, Lucilla, Maid Marion, Caroline Bingley - I'm thrilled! Great to learn about the context for the costumes and their narrative symbolism. I also wrote down a few new films to watch! ✨🌙✨
The 2005 P&P wasn't set during the regency period though. Joe Wright hated the empire silhouette (same dude same) and so found a way around it by setting it during ~1792, when Austen had first started the novel. Caroline Bingley actually wears a few empire waist dresses to show that she's a fashion-forward upper class city gal as opposed to the middle-class Bennet ladies who happened to live in rural England, therefore also getting the new styles later than London (not to mention again that this is set before the regency era). What rounds up this time period decision even more is that it also gave the Bingleys another reason for why they would try to mix with the rural society even though they had no connection to Meryton apart from renting Netherfield Park: the French Revolution had just happened/was happening and they didn't want to get guillotined by the middle/working class were they were to also take up arms against the rich.
I don't know if it falls into orange or yellow or just straight gold, but I will always be absolutely obsessed with Barbara Streisand's dress in Hello Dolly.
Came back to give a shout out to the orange Bob Mackie dress Vicki Lawrence wore on the Carol Burnett. Just saw it in the recent 90th birthday special and obviously not an iconic cinematic dress, but holy cow! What an orange dress!
I love this idea, i love almost all the films these are from! I didnt realize orange dresses were such a big part of my faves. They are such a bold and gorgeous choice
Some of my favorite yellow dresses include Belle's gown in the animated Beauty and the Beast and Cyd Charisse's yellow sundress in The Band Wagon. However, if you were to pick one dress from The Band Wagon, I feel like Cyd Charisse's green/black cocktail dress is underrated and utterly gorgeous
Yellow dresses always remind me of Edith Cushing's entire wardrobe in Crimson Peak. Other yellow favorites: Eowyn's dress in Return of the King, Danielle's first countess dress in Ever After, and Lady Lyndon dress in Barry Lyndon.
For yellow dresses, I'm almost certain the gown from "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" will be included--if it's not, I'd be shocked! I'd also love to see featured the yellow dress/cape worn by Lily Collins in "Mirror Mirror" and Belle's dress from Disney's animated "Beauty & the Beast" (although not sure if animated films are eligible for these videos). :)

Wow, shocked to see Gate of Hell in a video of yours! I've never met anyone else who has seen this film or talk about it online. Thank you for the extensive explanation of the cultural background behind the kimonos. Really glad to see Bollywood represented too. Personally love the wild costume design by Eiko Ishioka in Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Marilyn Monroe's Gentleman Prefer Blondes dress. Orange is a hard colour to pull off, I personally don't wear it because I don't think it's flattering for my skintone for clothing (and also it reminds me of a traffic cone) but I actually love orange themed makeup, especially for summer.
I love your channel so much! The Orange dress from Bram Stoker's Dracula that Sadie Frost wears is absolutely stunning - as is all the film wardrobe designed by Eiko Ishioka.
I'm surprised the Princess Bride orange outfit didn't make this list. Buttercup wears a very orange outfit for a large portion of the film. Possibly not as show stopping as some of her other looks. Although I lot of people claim the dress was red. I had this film on VHS when I was a kid. I remember on my TV then and now when i streamed it, i looks orange. I suppose that something to do with it. When Buttercup is dreaming of her future life with the prince, she also wears a very fancy and very lavish peach dress. It is probably one of my favorite outfits in the film; it is certainly an orange dress.
I note another blockbuster film "Ever After", Margaurite wears an orange dress which despite being on of the most hated characters in the film, was a very beautiful dress. I think doing an entire cast about the outfits in "Ever After" might be fun. I'd love to so see her ballgown dress again. I'm sure that is locked up in a vault or some sort of private collectors gem.
My favorite yellow dresses are the yellow kimono from Memoirs of a Geisha, where Chiyo makes her debuts as a maiko under her new name Sayuri, and the yellow dress Cameron Diaz wore in My Best Friend’s Wedding. And Belle’s dress in the animated Beauty and the Beast, even though it is more of a gold. And some of the dresses in Mirror Mirror.
That Under the Tuscan sun dress has been an obsession of mine since the movie came out. I adore that fabric! I was holding my breath for that one and the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes one.
The first yellow dress that comes to mind is always Emma Stone’s in Lala Land ✨. But maybe that’s because I have Another Day of Sun and Lovely Night on repeat 😋
I love the tangerine dress from the last episode of Bridgerton. Gorgeous. As for yellow, the first dress to come to mind is How to Lose a Guy In Ten Days.
definitely, my favourite yellow dresses in film have to be Padmé Amidala's Naboo dresses, both the one she's wearing when the worst line of the saga is uttered, and the one she wears to roll around the grass.
There is an eye catching duo coat and dress outfits in Down With Love. I think the fashion in Down with Love is so good and one of the best things about that movie.
Can We take a moment to admire Rose's Dinner Dress in Titanic! Love that burnt orange color hidden under all the lace net details! Perfect for Edwardian Couture, my guess is Lucile!
You are my new fashion hero. The fact I waited and watched all the orange dresses, the whole time saying to myself, she better mention Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was a brilliant way to end it. Brava! I agree. My favorite dress of hers of so many. That walk in that dress with Jane in black sequins beside her is sublime.
The orange gown in Casino Royale is one of the most beautiful gowns I’ve ever seen on screen. The movement, the cut, the back…. it’s absolutely breathtaking.
I don’t know if it technically counts as a dress, but Noxema Jackson’s two piece orange fringe ensemble from Too Wong Foo is iconic! Especially against Wesley Snipes deep melanin skin!!!
One of orange dresses I remember is one short dress from Soviet film "Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Profession", it's simple but very stylish, combinated with striped red-and-white shirt under it and with red flower pin. Also, the orange dress of the Queen from Mirror Mirror is a great example (sad it wasn't noticed in the video).
I’d just been rewatching your red dress video & wondering when you’d drop part 2! For part 3, I would recommend Kate Hudson’s dress in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Catherine Denuves dress in Donkey Skin, Kerry Washingtons dress in The School For Good and Evil, Ariana Debose in West Side Story, and the Masquerade dress from Black Orpheus

3) Olivia Hussey in Romeo & Juliet
4) Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
5) Eva Green in Kingdom of Heaven (mentioned)

9) Tilda Swinton in French Dispatch/Suspiria/I am Love
I am LOVING these longer deep dive videos! Great work!
I love orange 🍊 IMO it has an organic, effortless magnetism. Marigold is also one of my favourite flowers, go figure 😅 🌸 Wonderful vid
I love these color-coded looks into movie costumes. Very thoughtful treatment which goes way beyond fashion and into film critique. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
so nice to see the court jester here - its one of my fave films ever and the costumes have always stood out to me as amazing.
I'm so glad you mentioned Abby Lincoln wearing Marilyn's dress- whenever I see it, she's exactly who I think of.
I have been waiting for this video! This is my favorite color 🤍
There is an eye catching duo coat and dress outfits in Down With Love. I think the fashion in Down with Love is so good and one of the best things about that movie.
Sandra Dee's orange dress in Gidget is one of my favorite orange dresses.
15:12 brahmachari orange 🧡 dress is so iconic to me😊
Can We take a moment to admire Rose's Dinner Dress in Titanic! Love that burnt orange color hidden under all the lace net details! Perfect for Edwardian Couture, my guess is Lucile!
So glad you featured Bollywood and Bram stoker's Dracula! I love the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes dress too!
Shakespeare in love the party scene
The bright yellow dress in the dream sequence in Ryan’s Daughter.
Yellow is the color of jealousy in French romance etiquette.
I love the color orange and these dresses look great.
I always loved the yellow dress that Ann Reinking wears in Annie (1982) during the "We Got Annie" scene. 💛
The orange gown in Casino Royale is one of the most beautiful gowns I’ve ever seen on screen. The movement, the cut, the back…. it’s absolutely breathtaking.
i love when someone will have been wearing dresses of all colors and when they put on "their color" they become absolutely DIVINE!
Also, the orange dress of the Queen from Mirror Mirror is a great example (sad it wasn't noticed in the video).
padme wears an orange dress under the red robe when she addresses the senate in star wars episode 1 ICONIC
Orange is one of my least favourite colours but those dresses are simply stunning. Never thought I will find an orange dresses so beautifull 🧡
Julianne Moore in Far From Heaven in the 50s-era rust-orange dress with the purple scarf!
