To me they are too much fantasy meaning lack of real time period while also being set in our world and going for extremely rich looks that are overdesigned. Like butterflies on Cinderellas dress might have meaning but are too much
The green sari from Devdas is just iconic. The way she reveals it in the dance sequence will never fail to wow me. It's truly one of the best green dresses in the history of cinema. 💚
@crimsonred9280 It's actually an anarkali suit! An anarkali is one long piece on top, kind of like a dress, that flairs out (much like a lehenga) with pants (kind of like leggings). A lehenga is a top and a skirt, two separate pieces. A sari is one long piece of fabric, pleated and draped.
I’ve made Scarlett’s green dress, and let me tell you, it’s a trip and a half. Everything is three layers: a silk tissue taffeta lining layer, a white silk organza and the printed organza on top. Which means the 300 inch circumference of the skirt turns into almost 900 inches to hem. And those ruffles! Over 1200 buttonholes. So much work, and such an iconic dress. I love wearing it
I'm an Indian Bengali, and very very grateful for the mention of Devdas in the video. Thank you so much. You did a great job with the pronunciations too.
Scarlett O Hara definitely has *THEE MOST* iconic green dresses (and dresses in general) in cinematic history. Vivien Leigh carried those pieces so wonderfully and whoever were the amazing and talented people behind in creating them should be acknowledged.
In Clue: The Movie, Ms. Scarlet has a dark green dress that almost looks black in some shots. It's quintessential 80's, with the off shoulder straps and sheetheart neckline (even though the film is set in the 50's). I don't think it necessarily has historical significance or left a lasting impression on costuming as a whole. But I love it. I think Leslie Ann Warren looks fabulous and dark green is a color that always catches my eye.
I love this movie and have a soft spot in my heart for that dress, but I've noticed in the last few years that the fit is not very flattering on Leslie Ann Warren. I figured that it's because she replaced Carrie Fisher in the role on short notice and the fit was close enough.
I knew Gone With the Wind and Atonement would be in here, but I was SOOOO happy to see The Handmaiden! Also, god, I could watch every video in the Best Dresses series a million times over
Lord of the Rings dresses are so gorgeous anyway, how the elven couture was designed based on ancient, medieval and art deco styles. And the green dress was made to symbolize spring and suited Tyler so well
Grace Kelly's Green and white dress from Rear Window (1956) Tiana's green lily pad wedding gown from The Princess and the frog (2009) Fiona's green dress from Sherk (2001) Belle's green dress from Beauty and the beast (1992) Lady Tramine's dark green ball gown from Cinderella (2015) Lady Tramine's introduction dress from Cinderella (2015) Sid Sharice's green dress from Singing in the rain (1952) Nakia's Green Casino dress from The Black Panther (2019)
Fiona's dress for sure- I completely didnt consider it. I love that the texture seems velvety and the slim medievil fit with gold trim is just chefs kiss! I always forget to consider animation design too!
Thank you for including world cinema dresses as well. You do your due research and really present the best of the best and the most iconic. Devdas' green dress is just simply iconic and unforgettable, and the little introduction with the novel was unexpected. You really put a lot of thought, effort and research into your videos. Have to be one of my favorite creators on the platform in regards to fashion.
Scarlet's green dress in untouchable, the way it moves, the fullness and delicate touches. Her whole wardrobe is the definition of iconic. Also redheads in green are sublime like Rita Hayworth in her dance number. That dress is beautiful.
The first 1.24 minutes are a masterful summary of many of the best green dresses in cinematic history. Cyd Charisse in "Singing In The Rain" is a knock-out.
One my favorites is the pale green dress Arwen wears at the end of Return of the King, during the wedding/coronation. She’s like spring incarnate. Absolutely beautiful 💜
Sandy Powell was ROBBED of the Oscar for Cinderella! The costumes were the most stunning ive seen in years . I was almost certain she would win that year .
AYE! SIX the Musical reference!! I was going to type it in the comments if you didn't bring it up. So thank you for saving me the time. :) For anyone curious. The lyrics in SIX about Anne's sleeves go : Why did I lose my head? Well, my sleeves may be green... But my lipstick's red
I’m so shocked that you didn’t talk about Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge because Simran’s costumes are amazing, especially her green dress she wears in India. Having watched it recently and did a school project on the movie it became one of my favorites and the costumes on the female lead is outstanding
Mee too, as much as I had loved the inclusion of Devdas in this video, not adding Simran's green outfit in DDLJ during the Mehendi ceremony was a huge miss. Hell, there are several green dresses which appeared in Bollywood that I can't think of right now, but played an important role in the movie
I'd be lying if I said I didn't run a quick check though all the time stamps before watching the vid just you ensure Chandramukhi's Green dress made it to the list. I am so glad it did 😭💘
Yes, I missed these videos. Love that you included dresses from Black Panther, 13 Going On 30, and Devdas, and while I don't particularly like Oz The Great And Powerful, I will admit the green dress in it is stunning. As for your future blue dress video, some of the most memorable ones for me were the the gorgeous dresses from the 1980s Swann In Love, the musical Peau D'ane, White Christmas, Dreamgirls, 1954 Madam Du Barry, Umrao Jaan, House Of Flying Dragons, and of course the french Belle A La Bete.
I was absolutely blown away when you mentioned the sari, it’s not often that people talk about desi fashion and I was so happy when you did! Thank you sincerely
The Court Jester 1956 (starring Danny Kaye) had the MOST GLORIOUS dresses. Very theatrical, but GORGEOUS. There were several green dresses/outfits worn by the two main female characters (played by a beautiful young Angela Lansbury and Glynis Johns). If you like gorgeous medieval inspired dresses, I highly highly HIGHLY recommend watching it for that alone, though the humor still holds up too imo
I just mentioned this to someone yesterday wondering what had happened to this series, so glad to see another addition to it! I love the color green 🌿🌳🍃
Green is my favourite colour and I've been waiting with bated breath for you to release this one! I was not disappointed :) So many gorgeous outfits. It's so hard to pick a favourite!

Came here for Atonement, was pleasantly surprised by the Devdas appreciation! Not a fan of the story but the fashion and aesthetics of Devdas is timeless and majestic 💚
I watched Carol Burnett come down the stairs in that curtain rod dress. It was hilarious! Carol was the funniest woman of the 70s. That Atonement dress is my all time favorite.
I had cramps so painful I couldn't move or speak. I needed a video interesting enough to distract me from the pain, calming enough that the pace and tone didn't exacerbate, irritate, or overstimulate, and was long enough to get me through the worst of it till the meds kicked in. After trying a couple of other videos I landed on this one. I love analysis of fashion and styles from different eras, especially costumes and the color green was so calming to look at and your tone soothing and engaging. By the time it ended I was feeling significantly more comfortable. You saved me, thank you. Wonderful video can't wait to watch the rest of the series! You just got a brand-new subscriber 💙
Also just bought/made my first two green dresses in a very long time after committing to a red/blue color palate one of which is reminiscent of the notebook dresses but in more of a pastel green with tiny white and navy flowers, and the other a medieval fantasy dress I made for the Narnia faire. this video made me super excited to rock both!
That green dress from atonement lives in my head rent free.
I’ve spent so many years trying to find a dress similar to it.
so trueeee
Yes. It's AMAZING!
i think about it all the time ughh
I bought a Bebe lookalike dress for my senior prom. I still have it and love it to death. Still not as gorgeous as the one in the film.
I'd be lying if I said I didnt miss this series. So many people hate the color green. I think its so beautiful.
I love it, I had a green prom dress and ball gown dress.
How can someone hate green? It's my favourite colour😅😍
Green is the color of life and love it needs more positive credit
PEOPLE HATE GREEN?!?!?!?
I hate certain greens ahaha. Lime green specifically.
Cinderella (2015) genuinely has some of my favorite costumes... ever. the stepmother's wardrobe is to die for.
SAME!! THE COSTUMES ARE ALSO ONE OF FAVORITES EVER! 🤩✨😍
ABSOLUTELY!!!!
To me they are too much fantasy meaning lack of real time period while also being set in our world and going for extremely rich looks that are overdesigned. Like butterflies on Cinderellas dress might have meaning but are too much
The green dress Cate Blanchett wore in that film was GORGEOUS!!
The stepmother's green dress is so gorgeous, so elegant and classy.😍💚💚💚
I love that these videos always include some dresses that aren't American/European. The Indian ensamble was especially breathtaking.
The green sari from Devdas is just iconic. The way she reveals it in the dance sequence will never fail to wow me. It's truly one of the best green dresses in the history of cinema. 💚
It's not a sari, but yes, it's absolutely iconic.
@@SS-mk2yp Thanks for correcting me! I believe it's called a 'lehenga,' if I'm not mistaken.
It's called anarkali, she mentions it in the video.
Its called ANARKALI SUIT [it is not indian style but brought to india from mughals - persian empires 🙌]
I’ve made Scarlett’s green dress, and let me tell you, it’s a trip and a half. Everything is three layers: a silk tissue taffeta lining layer, a white silk organza and the printed organza on top. I wanna see!
well done! Yes can we see it please?
Green is always such a standout in film! No mater what it makes a statement when done right
I'm an Indian Bengali, and very very grateful for the mention of Devdas in the video. Thank you so much. You did a great job with the pronunciations too.
Chandramukhi's green anarkali is THE green outfit of Indian cinema, IMO 💚
Really? I'm a Bengali and most of my (extended) family live in India!!
@@DevicesAccount-y6mas do some 45% of Bengalis worldwide
I was alive when “Went With The Wind” aired and I have NEVER forgotten that dress or her one-liner that it was just “something she saw in a window.” 😂
Me too; I just remember me & my dad, who watched the show together every week, howling with laughter.
I was watching when she walked down the stairs. The costumer for The Carol Burnett Show made loads of perfect for the skit dresses.
☠☠☠
I love that this dropped the same day as Penelope's emerald dress on Bridgerton!
I always loved Allie's green dress from Burlesque when she sings Bound to You. It's such a beautiful dress.
you showed it in the montage in the beginning but layla's homecoming dress from sky high has lived rent free in my mind for years
same, I love it
