I have used i5-3570K since it came out and had no problems with it running in pair with 1st with GTX680 then GTX780 and currently GTX1080 (I but gfx cards just after release) all games maxed out on 1080p(144hz)/1440p never under 60fps and many games 144fps until ACOrigins, ACOddysey and Battlefield's 1 and 5 arrived where on my CPU i5 overclocked to 4.5GHz had just no raw power to run it smooth (yes oc'd since June 2012 until 1 September 2019 and I game a lot) It was running the game but CPU 100% utilized and games where literally choking every few ms. BF1 and 5 where running 60fps but with frame drops in a lot of action situations and was micro stuttering... problem was that I could feel in the game play that my CPU was suffering and barely towing that workload but.... I could not afford new mb cpu and effing ram prices at this time! so... I made a risky decision and sold my old Samsung Galaxy S5, added 29 pounds (Great Britain) paid £120 and got i7-3770K - immediately oc'd that guy to 4.6Ghz and.... I will tell you later because my tv show is coming up... just kidding - This i7 change it's like I have a brand new computer and the difference is unimaginable until you could actually feel it for yourselves not see it but feel it. Just jaw dropping! Everything is smoother and more stable running. I am talking about going 40Mph in Ford fiesta or 40Mph in Rolls Royce kind of difference. Almost all games run now at the same fps as before but CPU intensive games like Battlefield's I can run smooth now at higher fps and without that frame drops and stuttering and cpu choking at almost all Ultra high average 80-90fps) Assasins I can run at stable 60fps average at benchmark 70-90fps.
So I would recommend that type of change if you only have founds for used cpu upgrade while having the same problems I had. I know that new mb cpu of new generation would help me much more but to be honest if I can extend life of my mb, ram costing me £120 and my pc will be good for another 2 years I believe I made the good risky decision to get an i7 oc'd and game like a king with at least 20% headroom in performance for all the new games that will come out in next 2 years.
    My spec of pc is:
MB - ASUS ROG MAXIMUS V GENE
    i7-3770K @4.6Ghz (b4 i5-3570K @ 4.5Ghz) on NOCTUA NH-D15
    NVIDIA GTX 1080
    Ram: Corsair Vengeance pro 16Gb (2x8GB) @ 1600Mhz
    SSD's - 2TB of 4x500GB Samsung Evo's plus 4TB of HDD WD storage
When I OC the CPU and whatever speed's/voltage I CAN reach to run stress test stable for 6-8 hours - I will then cut off 200Mhz and run it forever never worrying about it dying.

zipmiX G Hey ive been playing around agian and got it stable on 1.187V at 4,6Ghz. I have no idea what the stock voltage is but with 1.123V i can run at 4,4Ghz perfectly fine, And normally i also just used Fixed Volt setting but now i did it with the +-Offset setting. @zipmiX- 9 років тому +1

God Les Oh well... I currently have mine set to 4.2Ghz at stock voltages, just to get rid of the work of finding a sweetspot. When I want to, I'll set it at 1.3V, but I wont go any higher than that... I don't really need anything higher than 4.6ghz tho, and I got that with 1.28v. So anything higher than 4.6 requires 1.3v and I won't go higher than that as I said.

Thanks :-) i have a 3770k on a sabertooth z77. 1200watt psu. i got it up too 4.8Ghz but i think the heat is to much for my liking. and then my H100i fans kick up cuz of the heat and i hate that.... should i try a better watercooler? maybe a bigger radiator?

@NCIXcom Hey Linus, is it safe to run Asus's "auto-overclocking" feature in the BIOS of an P7P55D-E PRO? I've always been scared to use in, because I think it's going to damage something... And, while its doing its thing and restarts your computer, what do you do? Do you tell it to go back into the BIOS, or login to windows?

what do you think about i7-2700k vs i7-3770k. overclockability vs pcie 3.0. im probably not going to oc for a year but i think the 3770k just cant get to the 5ghz without phase change or water block condensation. how do you prevent water block condensation ? is this because of the thermal paste i7-3770k problem or just temp in general? thank you

Im not sure whether to choose ASRock as my motherboard, are they any good? ive been looking a the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard for it black colour scheme and low price. I dont plan on doing any extreme overclocks but would like a nice OC of around 4.4ghz

    Asus Sabretooth Z77
Was able to surprisingly play Apex Legends on it.

What voltage and motherboard do you have? I need 1.39V just for 4.7 :( temps still stay under 90c with prime 95 though. I obviously got a nice thermal paste job, but I'm still delidding and applying liquid ultra because it's super easy (delidded a P4 which is SOLDERED onto the die for practice. Much more difficult than Ivy)

Wow grats on 5ghz with 3770! Thats so sick!
How hard is it to change the thermal paste?
And does that void the warranty?
Also man can you please tell me if this case can work well if I get the h100:
    RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black
And also, which motherboard do you recommend?
    Thanks!!

Hallo, I am planning to buy parts for a PC within the week. But I don't know which cooler to use between a H100 or a 212 evo. Both of them have their pros and cons, I know. I'm just wondering how much more will the H100 cool it? Planning to OC to anywhere between 4-4.5 GHz. I would be very happy even with 4 GHz though. Case I will be using is 400r.
    Thanks.

Need some help with my overclock I flashed bios to the latest 10.7 on this board and I cannot change the multiplier any idea what settings need to be adjusted or changed. My ram is running at 2133 even the OC Genie works but only up to 3.9Ghz I was able to to get 4.2 at stock voltage before so not sure what the problem is. Seems like MSI disabled somethings???

  • @DjArtfact

So if I'm at stock voltage the 212 evo should be fine? Since ivy bridge is hotter than sandy bridge would I be better of with a 2500k or 2600k if I want to overclock? Or would the best option be get the 3570k and a H100?

i was hardcore into overclocking when i got my i7 3930k. at most i got a 4,8 to stick! but then, life happened, i got a child, time got put elsewhere, and now i am about to challenge my own old PB. been using this beast of a CPU with a 1080ti for some time now, not really any performance to be sad about ;) 8 yr old CPU, still maxes out almost every game to 144fps cap of my monitor in 1080p. or at least 100fps @ 1440p

Linus, I believe the heat problems with ivy bridge OC is because of the thermal paste they're using on the processing cores themselves. Not the density of the transistors and size of the die.

I ended up setting the core voltage to auto and I pass 2 hours of blend test. Is it okay though? I feel like I'm kinda overvolting it because it reaches 1.264 volt during prime95 blend test, but it drops to 0.934 volt at idle.
What about you? is that 1.2v fixed voltage or offset? Do you enable C1E, C3, and C6?

  • @PTNLemay

I've never been able to convert volts into watts...
If the default power consumption is around 77 W, how much more power consumption can we see (approximately) if we jump it up to 4 GHz?

  • @andreas_ak
    @andreas_ak 11 років тому

Actually after doing a lot of research & asking a lot of people on forums, I managed to have a stable oc. I set the offset vcore to -0.03v, and I passed 1 hr 30 min custom prime95 stress test. I didn't do the 24 hour stability test bcause some people said that it might damage the CPU and I didn't wanna risk it. Max vcore is around 1.225v. I do feel like I'm a bit overvolting it for 4.2Ghz, but so far my system works fine. I was playing games for like 8 hours, and it didn't crash at all.
