@@nathanbedford9178If you can, try to modify your employment so you get sleep by 10 pm and get at least 8 hours. When you get your sleep matters because of our circadian rhythms.
Yes lack of sleep and good quality sleep also causes mood issues like anxiety which will also drive it up probably one of the underrated factors of getting that high #
I’m not overweight, eat well , exercise regularly, just walking ;) no sugar or fat but highly stressed at work and some at home front that can’t be avoided. I quit my job 3 days ago and I’m working on my health. Stress is the biggest factor!
Stress is definitely a contributory factor. One way to overcome stress is to play a game in your mind of finding a positive in every situation and finding the positive things in your life. Each time your are worried, fretting, angry or depressed, play this game. Yes there is a positive in each and every situation and all negative things out there in the world that are NOT in your life are also thankfully your positives. So next time you feel low play this game.😃 Another surprising way to lessen stress is to help someone, yet another is to have a hobby
I cut carbs, sugar, etc - lost 16 pounds - cut salt, anything high in sodium and still have the same BP - it is so F'N annoying!!! Seeing a cardio doc tomorrow bec I am about to throw the home BP machine in the trash. They say reduce your stress to reduce your blood pressure but guess what??? My BP gives me STRESS!!
Yeah man!!! Fuck I been going through EXACTLY the same things and feelings as you for years..I've commented on many videos but who hears us? I'm with you and I'm sick of it
16 lbs isn't that much wouldn't take that long to lose so you probably haven't been doing this long . Not surprised you have high bp I mean re read your comment you wrote I can feel the pressure / stress through the screen.
You lost 16 pounds. That is Great! But how overweight are you? Are you still overweight? If your still overweight by a lot that means you must lose more weight to lower blood pressure.
Low potassium is a major cause of high blood pressure. Since the vast majority of people (perhaps all of us) are deficient in this mineral, supplementing is the cheap and easy way to lower your blood pressure. I recently lowered my BP from 166/95 to 131/76 by taking 1000mg of potassium chloride twice a day, and continuing to eat a healthy diet. Yes, I am healthy otherwise, so this one change had a drastic effect of my own blood pressure.
Be careful with potassium chloride, it is proven to cause small intestine and stomach ulcers. There is a reason it is mandatory for supplements to have no more than 99mg P. Chloride per tablet. Do your research, especially if you notice any stomach /gut ache after you start taking it. Best way is to increaseyour potassium thru foods. Potatoes, bananas, tomatoes etc.
I am taking 3 blood pressure pills a day. My blood pressure cup was telling me I was in hypertensive crisis. when I complained about my pressure to my primary care he told me not to take my pressure until I have had my meds in me for at least 2 hrs. He might as well have slapped me in the face.. Thank the Lord their are alternatives... Thank you for caring and educating us all.
I got off from my blood pressure med for more than 2 months without my doctor's advice. I monitored my bp since I stop my medication and twas very normal ranged from 106-112/70-74. What I did is lifestyle changes, home remedy (raw garlic 2x a day) regular exercise (at least 30 mins brisk walking and intermittent fasting (18-6 3x every week)
@@EjLapore As long as you like raw garlic and you don't have side effects, you should eat the quantity you enjoy; too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Garlic is a blood thinner so if you don't enjoy garlic you can always use other blood thinners such as ginger, or turmeric in your food (curries?). Don't ignore side effects, they usually tell you what and how much your body wants to deal with.
THANK YOU DOC! Finally a doctor who isn’t exclusively blaming salt! When I went low carb, by accident I found out my BP dropped. Within weeks it went from 145/90 to 110/ 70 simply by cutting the carbs/sugar. Great info.
@@biblebill6206 Is that why so many Americans are obese or as Dr Hyman says 93% of Americans have a significant health issue that he lists? Standard nutritional science doesn't seem to be serving us well
Chronic high BP entire adult life.Im not a big doctor guy so would get it checked very infrequent.Went to the dentist and they wouldn't work on me because my BP was too high.A little later I went to the firehouse to check my BP.It was 170/80, a month later checked again,180/90.I had a vegan diet for 6 years and never lowered my BP one bit.Stopped vegan diet years ago.So recently started eating a meat diet, carnivore,no fruit,no vegetables at all Meat, butter, eggs and some raw dairy.Within 6 weeks I got my BP checked,130/70.Several months now and I consistently get normal readings, first time in my adult life.Im 65.
Around 20% of people with Hypertension have a condition called primary Aldosteronism where the adrenals are inflamed and or have a aldosterone emitting tumour. Excess aldosterone means that the body holds onto salt and dumps potassium. If you are diagnosed then you need to restrict salt intake to 1500mg a day. It is a curable form of high blood pressure with medication and or removal of the affected adrenal. Many people are walking around with this condition - it is diagnosed using a blood test and more precise testing is used to figure out if it is one or both adrenals affected. It would be a good idea to look into this Mark - there needs to be more information on UA-cam and other platforms around this condition which used to be once thought of as rare. When this is diagnosed it can add 20 years to someones life. Millions are currently undiagnosed. Thanks
I have a tumour on my left kidney, been there for years, its 3.8 cm but they say its not active. I've had kidney stones, obesity, hypertension, and anxiety. I am low to zero carb. I think this tumour is affecting me but I think I need to find a specialist. My primary care doctor doesn't want to address it.
I had / have this. Hypertension since age 16. No help till age 30. Pills nevrr worked. Tall....very thin, eat well..nothing helped. Did my research and found out about Hyperaldosteronism. Took 3 years to get to a Nephrologist. No tumour....but high aldosterone. Turns out it is simply hereditary. Increased potassium and magnesium helped a ton! But still have more to go....
Started taking extra magnesium to see if my bp came down. It would go up to 138 ish over 90. Now really in line bout 120 over 80. I drink too much coffee in the am. I’m 56 white guy doing low carb/keto for past 4 years. In good shape, exercise a lot. I think magnesium is very important.

It doesn’t matter what I do, I’m even on BP meds and clean diet and workout a lot. My grandma had it too and we had to take her to the ER all the time when it would get over 200/110 but the crazy part is she lived to be 101. Mine and hers is just naturally high
Beetroot powder! I tried it and was surprised at how well it worked. Beats or beet juice also but it is hard to eat enough, and the juice has too much sugar.
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, 1/2 lemon juice, 2 cloves of garlic pressed, 1/4 tablespoon of Cayenne pepper, and teaspoon of honey on empty stomach, twice a day has taken me from 80mg 3x a day bp meds to 1/2 of 1 in morning and 1/2 at night in 5 days, don't do it without BP monitor It will go to low, I went from 155/55 to 110/ 77, again In 5 days.
Me too. My Dad had it all his life and I’ve had it since I was 24 years old. It’s all over the map, but when I’m stressed, it’s really high. I’m on medication and am trying a high potassium diet and lowering salt. Lowering carbs too. My Dad lived until 86 and did not die from any cardiac/ vascular problem. I have no other health problems. Just this curse.

So glad i found you! Right at the beginning of covid i relocated to be a caregiver for 2 family members who passed 10 months apart . my blood pressure was high before i became a relocated it was 177/85, my doctor gave me a prescription and I took one pill because I felt like i was to young at 55 and that I would just make the necessary changes to my lifestyle....and I did. I walked 3 miles Mon-Fri, did 90 minutes of exercise at home, drank 90oz or more of water, salmon, kale, egg whites, sweet potatoes, fruit. I lost 25lbs, blood pressure went to 127/75. Now at 58, I went to the ER 2 weeks ago, BP 202/102, they gave me losartan. Im going to take the calcium magnesium , its hard to exercise because now I need a knee replacement, but i did find a 10 minute video for high blood pressure. You mentioned Omega which I'll try, what are your thoughts on Beetroot powder along with the Losartan pills? Thank you for sharing, New Subscriber!

Agree with everything except “don't exercise after dinner.” I'm 63 and have been doing it 5 days a week, an hour after dinner. I have made excellent progress in the past year, with no negative effects whatsoever. I also did a quick google dive into your analysis and found nothing more than the possibility of upsetting my stomach, which doesn't happen. I went from taking two BP medications a year ago, to taking none now and have an average BP of 115/70 with just lifestyle changes.
I would suppose to you that it wouldn't have mattered when you did that exercise you needed. I have a close friend with bad gastro problems and besides a walk after this would be very bad. I'll go further to say that your liver mainly processes what we've eaten when we are supine so the habit of lying down for a bit after eating in Mediterranean countries is a good one. Keep up the good work. :)
When I went on your (Dr Hyman's) 10 Day Detox program, my BP dropped to normal along with cholesterol and other good markers! And I lost about 25 lbs gradually, over about 3-4 months ... was great!. Thank you! Time to 'get back on it'!! :)
"Lifestyle" - 100% agreed. However, it isn't as easy as one might think. The suggestions made here about better foods to eat might be possible for someone who has the income to support better quality meals, but a person on a limited income is forced to buy what he can afford - which is usually the "bad" foods. Based on the laws of physics, if you eliminate the cause of high blood pressure, there is no reason for it to exist. This is why the salt claims are wrong. If a doctor advises the patient to cut back on salt and then prescribes medication, then salt can't be the cause because by cutting back on the salt (the "cause"), medications shouldn't be needed. The answer to properly treating high blood pressure is to find the cause and fix it. It shouldn't be too hard to do. If the medical profession understands the mechanics of how medications act on the body to get the desired effects, they should know what nutrients do the same thing. This would indicate a nutrient deficiency that is treatable by the patient.
Your logic has left out that the medical profession is also a business with a bottom line ($$). Nutrition does not bring big profits to big pharma, and big pharma owns mainstrream medicine.
A very simple way to lower your blood pressure greatly is to eat beets every night before dinner. Try freeze dried beets from Trader Joe’s. I keep over a dozen boxes in the refrigerator and eat one half nightly. It is miraculous.
Lots of great tips. I do feel Dr. Hyman glossed over meat as a great source of potassium. There's a good amount of potassium in beef, fish, liver, etc. It would be interesting to know more about the bioavailability of potassium from different foods. For example, let's say, on paper, a portion of spinach and a portion of salmon contained the exact same amount of potassium - would there be a way of determining which one (after being consumed) would provide the greater amount of potassium to the body?
Yes, I went carnivore for 6 months and my blood pressure lowered to level and my sugars. It also helped me conceive after years of trying. Since being pregnant I brought fruit and vegetables back in and my blood pressure went up. Not a lot but I think carbs effect people differently

My mom in her 70s was on BP medication. We started a diet of vegetables with small portions of meat. No daily desserts and heavily reduced breads. My mom got dizzy a lot, and it turned out her BP corrected itself, and the medication was counteracting it, making her dizzy. The doctor slowly reduced the meds until she was off of them.
I'm 59, have had high BP for at least ten years. My diet is high in fruit and veg, and watch my salt intake. I have a resting heart rate of 45 bpm, run about 40 miles per week and swim at least 5 miles per week. I can run a 5K in under 19 min. I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I just took my BP and was 185 over 103, this is normal for me, and whatever I do I can't get it down to 'normal levels'. I don't believe 120 over 80 is a normal figure. I've tried deep breathing but that makes my BP worse.
I am 75yrs old and was getting similar or higher readings. If you are anxious or stressed about it, the reading will be higher. Sit upright in a chair. Sit at a table with your elbow on the table. Raise or lower the chair so that your elbow is the same level as your heart. Relax for about 3 min. Then take 3 readings. Right hand, left hand, right hand. Discard the first reading (always higher) note the other 2 readings and take the average. Hope you get better results.

People often forget about the impact of periodontal ( gum) disease. Personally - as a DDS for 50 years - I am concerned about people with periodontal disease flossing - and the risk of pushing pathogens into the blood. I would love you to do research on this. See blood biomarkers after people with gum disease, and at risk for heart problems, use floss.
Arterioles contribute to maintaining mean arterial pressure and tissue perfusion as they are the important site of total peripheral resistance. By increasing or decreasing the diameter, they also play a principal role in regulating blood flow in an organ or tissue-specific manner. Also, a lot of people do not know what blood pressure is as compared with psi. 1 psi = 51.7 mm/hg. If your systolic blood pressure is 120 the psi would be 2.32041297. If the systolic blood pressure is 200 the psi would be 3.86735494. The difference between 120 and 200 is 1.54 psi. All your organs including your eyes have different requirements for blood flow, it's the job of the arterioles to regulate the blood flow from the arteries. Big PHARMA does not understand the role that arterioles play and how they regulate blood flow to various organs.
No one seems to mention that your blood pressure is naturally higher as you get older and that’s perfectly okay, especially if you’re not overweight and you eat a healthy diet and take exercise
Ok I started doiing something about it, I mean getting rid of the belly fat but I like sweet stuff so it is not easy. Started by cutting down on size of meals and content of what I eat. Stopped starchie food like pasta rice and all but my body couldn't handle it so had to substitue protein in it's place which works but I still like the sweet treats. Maybe I can cut them completely but cutting down right now only eating some treats once or twice per week. Salt I cut a long time ago but difficult to cut it completely. Just to say it made a big difference right away. Walking up this steep hill I do it a few day sometime every day to go to the local supermarket to get sundries. My blood presure was very high even though I am taking meds for it. Taking this new diet does not make a big difference to belly fat but seems to be going down. I have this channel to thank and not my doctors. They do zero actually doctoring and only do it to make money for themselves getting kickbacks from drug companies. It's not good. I am 67 in a few months..

What ticked me off was I went to a functional medicine cardiologist after my heart attack. He didn't do a fasting blood sugar, but tested everything else. Gave me recommended anti oxidant foods which were almost all fruit based, with high amounts of fruit in a shake in the morning. I get a blood test from my regular doctor a year later and have IR at a prediabetic level. Sent me on a search to find out why. Between his suggestions and NOT even asking or talking with me about my carb intake / eating patterns, it had really spiked my blood sugar during the day. Once I found out the causes of IR, I severely limited my simple carb intake and dropped all sugars. Cut back to 2-3 meals with no snacking. All of the external signs of IR have gone away. Lost 3 abdominal inches in 3 months, and lost visceral fat as my stomach went flat too. Blood pressure dropped even more than just the meds had done. Zero recommendations on Magnesium or potassium. Working on cleaning up more of my diet. Sleep has been an issue with not going to sleep after waking up to go to the bathroom. I just found out today, after doing some digging on my own, that beta blockers are a common cause. Guess what type of BP meds I'm on? This has been a 2 year battle and all he did was a sleep apnea test, never suggested changing the meds. Some "functional medicine cardiologist" he turned out to be. Changing cardiologists. And BTW, although the rest of his body isn't fat, he has a large distended abdomen. Hmmmmm. I'm thankful for doctors like you that help those of us looking for answers find them.
I totally agree with and appreciate this video so much. And I love the many excellent points you made, Doc. Most doctors don't know even half of what you said here. I always have an issue with the "Americans eat X number of pounds of sugar a year" statistics that are always part of articles everywhere wherever American diets are discussed. And if "nutrition" is discussed in the doctor's office at all, that's pretty much all you get: the sugar lecture and these "average American" numbers. Over the years I've done a bit of research into this and have found that the number wildly fluctuates depending on the source. You can basically find almost every outrageous number given. You can find sources that swear each American eats 57 lbs of sugar a year, no it's 87, no, it's 147, another says it's 150 - 170 lbs of sugar a year! Why don't we all just agree that each and every American eats an average of 500 pounds of sugar a year so that we cover all bases. Or, we can realize that these numbers are based on sales of sugar in the food industry and not accurate at all. It would be more accurate to say X amount of lbs of sugar are used in the food industry each year. But then the amount of food waste would have to be admitted and factored in. Because all we really know is how much sugar is sold, not really how much is consumed. Nor do we know what that "average American" is out there doing. Because I think we all know that there are people who eat terribly on a regular basis and drink soda all day long, but many eat quite good as a rule, as well as many who eat with intelligence daily. But the food industry, which is really where the blame lies here, cranks out the sugar, puts it everywhere, and then we're accused of eating it all. In truth, it's not all consumed. To be more correct "sugar" needs to be defined as everything that raises blood sugar, as well, which includes grains, a huge staple of the American diet. I love that you included heavy metals in this discussion; most don't ever mention them. Mercury fillings needs to be looked into much more as a cause for hypertension, imo. I also love that you talked about magnesium deficiency, which is absolutely rampant and when was the last time anyone had their conventional doctor advise they focus on getting their daily magnesium and potassium? I would also like to add that food allergies or sensitivities are also a more common cause of hypertension than most realize. That ended up being my main cause and it took a functional/holistic doctor to help me figure that out. I was pretty fascinated by that. There are so many causes that I feel it's victim blaming to say "the average American eats" whatever number of pounds of sugar or other garbage someone wants to blame on them (not you--this is a common stat thrown around by everyone). It's true that more education on the many underlying causes of hypertension needs to be given---to the doctors out there, primarily, and then to their patients who deserve answers.
I am 65 this month and have been experiencing high BP for 3 years and started experiencing some limited arthritis in my hands. My systolic ranges from 160 - 120 but my diastolic is only 80 - 65. I have had a balanced diet for many years and recently did a 30 day AIP detox diet and lost 9 lbs and am down to 172 lbs and am 5'9. I also increased my supplements to include magnesium, Vit K, D, C, Co Q10, multi and fish oil. I retired 2 years ago, I have little stress and have been exercising typically 2x per day including a 1 hour walk and strength exercises. I am now seeing a cardiologist and did an EndoPat test which had no alarms on it. I am frustrated because it seems like I am doing all the right things but my BP still fluctuates and seems too high. I wanted to avoid medication but seems like I may need to start.
Is it possible that your higher reasons are from anxiety? If you are worried about your blood pressure, and concerned that this time it will be higher, then they can raise it. I'm not a doctor, this is just from personal experience, and what a doctor suggested to me in the E.R last summer.
A keto diet is the way to go in terms of a life long lifestyle to cut out the bad carbs and keep the good fats and proteins. Intermittent fasting daily is huge when implemented. B complex vitamins, magnesium, zinc, iodine, vitamin D3 (with K2), a teaspoon and a half of sea salt daily, 4700 mg of potassium daily. Daily electrolytes in water which contain magnesium, sodium, chloride, calcium and potassium and trace minerals is great hydration. I recommend Dr. Berg's electrolyte powder (grape flavor is tasty). Get your thyroid checked. Also, if you truly want to know what vitamins and minerals you're deficient in instead of taking supplements blindly, then get a HTMA test (hair, tissue, mineral analysis). It's the best test for accurate levels. A blood test is just a moment in time and doesn't reflect the last three months in the body. Sleep at least 7 hours if not 8 without interruption. HIIT exercises no more than 3 days a week recovering in between.
Researchers collected data about the participants’ health status through the Berlin Initiative Study, a Charité research project. They questioned participants every 2 years and assessed their blood pressure, among other health measurements. At the 6-year mark, the investigators performed a statistical analysis to find out how blood pressure could affect a person’s mortality risk. They also adjusted for potential confounding factors, such as sex, lifestyle choices, body mass index (BMI), and how many drugs for high blood pressure each person took. They saw that people aged 80 and over who had a lower blood pressure - of 140/90 mm Hg or under - actually had a 40 percent higher mortality risk than peers with blood pressure exceeding those thresholds.
Yeah, recently there's been studies that say older people might actually benefit from having an elevated BP. Honestly BP is still mostly a medical mystery.

On the rare occasion I eat out or at Mama''nems I can tell immediately I've consumed chemical salts and sugar because my joints throb. I can literally feel my heartbeat throughout my body. I have to drink tons of H2O to end the salt and sugar overload effects
I think more Black People need to watch more of these longevity videos. I’ve learned so much about sugar intake. I had high blood pressure, high triglycerides and high cholesterol. Since doing intermittent fasting and low carb and I feel so much better.
This info is so true. Salt sugar and fats are used as preservatives in food to give a longer shelf life and mass produce at a cheap cost that is not healthy at all....
At 74 years, it is difficult to eat the volume of vegetables and fruits necessary to actually get 4700 mg of potassium. Do you advocate supplementing? How much is safe to take at one time?

Could you elaborate more on how heavy metals directly affects blood pressure? I'm someone who's been promoting awareness about "metals" and the current concerns with regards to implantable devices. However, this is the first I've heard of heavy metals mentioned with high blood pressure. Thank you in advance and for the wonderfully informative video.
Great question. I looked at my research on this subject and found this. The paper has links to articles specifically on cardiovascular effects: Toxic Metals Cause Membrane and DNA Damage, and Disrupt Physiology (Protein and Enzyme Activity) Heavy metals enter the human body through the gastrointestinal tract, skin, or via inhalation. Toxic metals have proven to be a major threat to human health, mostly because of their ability to cause membrane and DNA damage, and to perturb protein function and enzyme activity. These metals disturb native proteins’ functions by binding to free thiols or other functional groups, catalyzing the oxidation of amino acid side chains, perturbing protein folding, and/or displacing essential metal ions in enzymes… It is well known that exposure to xenobiotic [toxic] metals can cause gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, reproductive, renal, hemopoietic, and neurological disorders [6,7]. Some heavy metals stimulate through different pathogenetic links the progression of cancers and reduce their sensitivity to treatment [8,9]. Oxidative stress (rising level of oxidative damage in a cell) caused by these metals destroys lipids, proteins and DNA molecules, and supports carcinogenesis. A wider discussion on this topic can be found in recent reviews [10,11,12]. - Danuta Witkowska et al, Molecules

I take my blood pressure almost every day. For me long brisk walks work immediately. So does quitting drinking for a couple weeks. The magnesium relaxes and helps with stress and sleeping. If I could only lose about 20 pounds. Great video.
Cutting or quitting drinking makes a big difference. I was surprised the doc didn't mention it. Low carb does the job too. Yes, beer is a high carb "food".

As a child I was told you can live without adenoids. I had them removed wth my tonsils when I was 10 yrs old. Lately I read an articlt that said adenoids help control water balance in the body. I believe this has contributed to my high blood pressure.
So how would one go about getting the heavy metals out? I have been a welder for about 6 years now and I started eating healthy and exercising at the start of this year and my blood pressure has gone through the roof. I was recently put on Lisinopril but there are so many dietary restrictions and supplements I can’t take. I felt all of my efforts to get healthy were counter productive. I’m definitely thinking the heavy metals are a factor for me.
I took that briefly and the more they increased it the higher mine got. It was a reaction to the meds. It happens, yet docs sat it's not true. I told the one LOOKIT UP!
Wow, you are sooooo right Dr. Hyman!!! Thank you for this information. I can truly atest to what you are saying. Can I also add one more thing, I also noticed that when I am under stress and anger, my BP also sky rockets. And I also noticed that when I intentionally increase my exercise with the INTENTION of expeling or releasing out my frustration and increase your heart rate (to a reasonably heart rate) to really sweat and increase your exercise length of time, I dropped my blood pressure - seriously
I’d love to know how to come off BP meds….they make me dizzy lately. I’ve been eating better, meditating and walking. Skipped two days of meds and BP was amazing but on third day it started to creep. Not looking to stroke out so I took my med…I do badly want to stop taking them. I have to be careful of potassium intake which is weird.
Thank you Dr. Hayman, I really appreciate what you had to say, and I implementing those now. I have increased those measures increasingly after they proved extremely efficacious. It is wonderful to be 69 years of age, and have a body that looks the way it did when I was 31-33 years of age. I just started exercising again after working long hours on a project, and I did 32 push ups easily. But being a health nut I will be getting back to doing 100 push ups a day very shortly. What is truly wonderful is that today the information on genetics, science, and medicine is so much more accurate, and efficacious than just 20 year ago, that there is literally no reason to allow ones self to turn into a dead skin, wrinkled, sun damaged blob wasting away on a couch eating ding dongs.
Lol!absolutely true, I'm almost 77 and I exercise every morning,I've cut out flour and sugar. I am able to eat almost anything I like in moderation. The main thing of all is diet, exercise and DISCIPLINE. This massive intake of junk, flour, salt, and sugar and sitting on the couch CANNOT be healthy.
Been on keto for over a month. Fat adapted. However I'm edgier, more anxious, more adrenaline fueled, far more awake at night etc etc and I'm PH. I felt calmer ON sugar and some carbs than now that I have given them up mostly (most days I'm about 40g carbs). So what gives? 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: I have now introduced carbs back in (mainly in evenings) and my sleep quality has returned. Weird, that.
Google it. It's not weird. Sugar is more of a sedative because it's after-effects are much stronger than the little “kick” you initially feel. High sugar consumption inhibits the production of Orexin, which is a chemical in your brain that stimulates the feeling of being awake. The more sugar you eat, the more sleepy you will feel.Dec 29, 2019
Came here looking for life hackers. Only one video on UA-cam for "I life hacked my high blood pressure" check it out. He deleted coffee increased cardio and got sleep
It is not weird it is what happens to alot of people on a ketogenic diet. Many dump too many electrolytes even if they take in salt and quality carbohydrates lower cortisol levels and help with dopamine and serotonin production. We are all individual so not everyone does well ketogenic.
I have a healthy lifestyle and a good bmi. No alcohol, no smoking, watch sugar and carbs, intermittent fast and exercise. And i have high bp. Can genetics trump all the lifestyle hacks? Am i doomed to taking medication?
That's what genetics does. Jim Fixx was credited for speaking about the beneficts of jogging for your health, he died from a heart attack at 52. However his father died at 43 from a heart attack. Exercise and healthy diet doesn't compensate bad genetics.

Stress is definitely a contributory factor. One way to overcome stress is to play a game in your mind of finding a positive in every situation and finding the positive things in your life.
Where can you buy 1000mg? I can't find anything more than 99mg

Thanks

I don’t understand my doctor, well, I do I know all about doctors, but I have to have one doesn’t mean I have to take his advice, unfortunately because I am on SSA disability and Medicare I have to keep a primary care physician so I can subscribe me all these drugs that I won’t take they just sit here for about six months. Then I grind them up. No I don’t flush them down the toilet. I don’t quite know what to do with them fill my pillows with him.
Yes truth !!!!

Thank you, makes total sense to me. I found out a few days ago, my bloodpressure is 200. He tested me 3 times, last one was 195. He got a bit angry when I said no to medication. I know that I have the alcohol to blame. Will totally cut it out now, my diet was always pretty good, but it can be improved, and I will do that, too. Thanks for confirming what my intuition told me straight away. I can't stand how some people tell me straight away, oh, just take the medication. And then they admit that they still eat crap. People often forget about the impact of periodontal ( gum) disease.
Personally - as a DDS for 50 years - I am concerned about people with periodontal disease flossing - and the risk of pushing pathogens into the blood.
I would love you to do research on this.

Hmmmmm.

Some valid points I think, thanks for sharing

Could there be an underlying condition responsible for the hbp. Have you done a lipid profile to check your ldl & triglycerides levels?
Eat many many vegetables, the diet with which we evolved. Provides necessary magnesium and potassium. (But avoid potassium supplementation.)

I took Dr Hyman's advice. BP reduced to 118/68 .Also, felt calmer and slept a lot better by taking the magnesium glycinate.

The paper has links to articles specifically on cardiovascular effects:
Toxic Metals Cause Membrane and DNA Damage, and Disrupt Physiology (Protein and Enzyme Activity)
Heavy metals enter the human body through the gastrointestinal tract, skin, or via inhalation.

It is not weird it is what happens to alot of people on a ketogenic diet. Many dump too many electrolytes even if they take in salt and quality carbohydrates lower cortisol levels and help with dopamine and serotonin production. We are all individual so not everyone does well ketogenic.
