Sweet - such a sweet sound.
Thanks for breaking down how you achieved this sound in such a detailed fashion. That gives a great deal to think about - wonderful.
Bill: I just received my Flashback Triple yesterday; pretty daunting combination of options! Your suggestion to view this video is right on as a starting point! Thanks, I'm gonna grab a cup a joe and dial it in right now.
I'd love to know more about how to identify the frequencies to eliminate or accentuate. ... Thank you for putting this video together. It is a stand by for me.
I’m so glad I saw your show announcing that the triple delay was likely to be discontinued. So I bought one right away before prices started running away. I’m finally going to put it on my live board, thanks, this may be one of the greatest delays of all time. I love your channel and all that you do.
I am still using mine after all these years!!!
@@chordsoforion thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this! It was very useful, my swells sound absolutely perfect to my ears because of your setting with a slight touch of reverb. You are amazing!
Awesome! So glad the video was helpful!!
Amazing guitar collection
NAILED IT!!! Thank you 👏👏👏
You!, yes, you all here are the most beautiful humans in the world! Bless your soul!
wow, kudos to you sir. it is amazing what you can achieve with playing around a bit with daw plugins, and how important the mixing process is in creating a song.
and also, do you mic the amp or directly into the interface?
Thanks!!!
Good question! I run direct from the Eleven Rack into my Focusrite audio interface.
Sounds beautiful...
Love it so much. Thanks for letting us get into your head and heart.
My pleasure. It's been a real joy for me to share my musical journey!!
This is excellent!! I have just started wrapping my head around recording and this is really helpful. Also interesting to see your thought process as you record.
BTW the baritone/bass guitars are just killing me :)
Super helpful. Thank you again. I have just got this pedal and a lovely MXR Reverb pedal. This is going to make some lovely textures for my next recordings :-)
Agreed - you should get some great sounds out of that combo!
man that guitar is a beaut
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your input I ended up getting the dd500
Excellent!!
This is a really really really well-made video. Thank for doing something this cool. I have a question: How are you recording this in stereo if you are only running one amp? I would love to know :D
I don't actually use an amp. I am using an Avid Eleven Rack, which has stereo outputs and a stereo effects loop. But, if I was not using an amp modeler, I would be using 2 guitar amps for sure.
Really nice video! Just got the pedal and really dig this track you made. Great sound.
You are gonna love the Triple Delay!!!
Chords Of Orion
I already have the tc triple delay and just ordered the Strymon El Capistran. Am I doubling up? Should I return the Strymon or does it do different things from the triple delay?
Also, based on some of your videos I’ve got the EHX Mel 9 on the way! Your channel is very inspirational and your a great teacher.
Just ordered everything in the video before it even finished playing 😂 hahaha yessss
I especially love delay setting #2
Agreed, the 2290 Mod type is really nice.
Nice video! Thanks.
You're welcome Nathan!!!
Awesome video man! The ring mod sucked the life out of the sound tho, felt way more rich and alive without it 🤘🏻
Considering getting one of these in 2021. Heard it’s maybe going out of production and there is a huge discount available at a local store for the next 6 hrs... tick tock tick tock 😂
great tutorial.. thanks
You are welcome!!!!
You should check out the Electro Harmonix Mel9.. Just watch the EHX channels demo of it.. I think you would like. Perfect for adding orchestral strings and vocal chorus, all with just a guitar.
I do indeed love Mellotron! I've got a friend who recently got the Mel9 and loves it. Probably a pedal I will get around to at some point!
Hi Bill, in its price class, would you still pick the avid eleven rack, or would you now go for something else? I loved this vid, nice to get a look at your production process! Moar! :-)
I've had my Eleven Rack since early 2011, and I got a really good deal on it. If I were looking for an amp modeling unit today, I would definitely do a little research to see what the best option for me was. It does seem like a product that is at the end of its life cycle and I doubt if it will be supported by Avid for too much longer.
That being said, the 11R has great sounding amp models, is easy to use, and is very expandable through the effects loop. And since I don't use it as an audio interface, I am not so concerned with integration to Pro Tools and such.
Once you record a piece, can you also go back and recreate it so that it sounds like the original? Months and years later?
Sometimes. This piece for example, is fairly easy to recreate, at least to get in the ball park. But...Some of the other pieces are one time creations, never to be repeated precisely the same way.
That's what I thought. I like that. Much like a painting, once done, why try to duplicate? Lol
Very nice stuff!!
I have tried to use delays in VST form and I just cannot get anything reasonable from them as you are getting with hardware.
One pedal I think you would should check out is the Boss Tera Echo.
While I don't have the full Tera Echo, I do have the DD-500, which includes Tera Echo capabilities. Pretty cool!
I didnt know that, thanks man:)
Do you use any of your Reverb pedals in recording ?
I just bought Hall of Fame reverb and I am wondering how I can use it for recordings except reamping after record. It seems that I need more delays than reverbs to make ambient music.
interesting project Bill.....what is the best way to connect my guitar to my computer?
If you are going to add amp sims in the recording software, just plug the guitar into an instrument input of a USB audio interface. For something simple, I like the Focusrite 2i2 or 2i4.
Hey! Did you ever try the Neunaber Immerce pedal? I think it would fit your tastes perfectly)
I never have, but I suspect I would like it!
I ordered min yesterday, that endless reverb trails just sold me.Exactly Sigur Ros sounds.Heaven!!!
T.I.N Mateus Excellent!!!
Does Puma give you free sox?
😄
Im in the market for a delay pedal, son I'm considering 3 pedals
The eventide timefactor
The boss DD500
And the flashback triple delay
Witch one would you say it's the best choice out of the three?
They are all great delays, although I have never used the TimeFactor. If you want something more like a Strymon Timeline, I would say the DD500 is a good candidate. If you are like the idea of having 3 delays in one pedal, then the Triple Delay is the one.
whats nice about this video is that its like a rectangle
Sorry, I didn't catch if you went direct into your interface or did you mic an amp?
I use an Avid Eleven Rack amp modeler direct into my audio interface.
For ambient songs is this a better option that the strymon timeline?
The triple delay is great for ambient guitar, however it does not have the shimmer and smear options that the Timeline has. It does have a much longer delay time though (7 seconds vs. 2).
Chords Of Orion so you would recommend this pedal over the eventide timefactor and the DD500 if I can't afford the timeline?
Do you like the triple delay better than the dig?
I don't like it better, however, it is more versatile. The thing with the DIG is that it excels at multi-patterned delays (dotted eights, etc.), and I love the focus and simplicity of the pedal. If you need/want multiple delays types and the flexibility of 3 independent delay lines, then the Triple Delay kills it.
Here are the settings that Bill described for the TC Electronic Flashback Triple Delay:

Hey Bill....I run windows and not apple cuz I hate apple corp....what DAW would you recommend for windows users that is good for ambient?
I don't think there are any DAWs out there that are better or worse for ambient music. If you are already using a DAW and are comfortable with it, stick with it. If you don't have a DAW, then Reaper is a great choice.
Chords Of Orion is a DAW the same as a virtual guitar amp?
No. It is the recording software. It may or may not include a guitar amp simulator plugin like logic does.
I recently found some ambient tutorials on youtube using 'Reason' by the propeller heads so ordered that DAW from Amazon......prepare to be amazed!! lmao
That 2290!!!!!
indeed!
Is this pedal midi controllable? As in can you use midi messages to recall patches?
The Triple Delay does have MIDI in and thru, however, the manual says that it is only used for controlling the delay time, in order to sync tempos. The Triple Delay does not have the concept of patch banks, so there really is nothing that can be switched. Might be worth checking the TC Electronic user forums for more information.
Chords Of Orion Thanks.
Just checked out a TC forum post. You can use the midi ports to switch the delays on and off, so if you've got a loop switcher/controller to switch multiple pedals you can switch on and off any of the three patchs you have saved. Just thought I'd pitch in with the info
