Very cool, I’ve been going over your Triple Delay vids as I’m finally going to use it. I bought one straight up when you did your discontinued show. This pedal is really amazing, it still holds up sonically. I really get using a Baritone for ambient, you are in not limited at all when it come to range. Cellos, bass, viola and violin it’s all there. Luckily I has a Jerry Jone 3 pu Barirone. Thanks again for your passion and hard work
Thanks, Bill, for taking the time and energy to go through your effect setups. It's enormously helpful for me (and I'm sure others) that are trying to get their arms around the Triple Delay. I would not have thought of putting a "slap-back-reverse" delay in front of the long tape delay. I'm gonna walk over to my guitar and give that all a try. An aside: I'm not having joy with my LA Lady. Can't seem to get a sound I like and it seems hard to control. Plus the knobs seem really sensitive. I find the Neuro app interesting, and I've downloaded lots of patches, but it's a nuisance, and frankly, most of the library patches are pretty weird and over-the-top. In an already very complicated discipline (ambient guitar), I think this pedal is too much for me. I liked your MojoMojo demo and am considering picking that up. I have a Tube Screamer on the shelf also and may just go back to it..... Does this ever end? :) Bill
I'll have to dig out some old electronics I have in storage; I'm sure between them all I can wrangle together 3 half decent delays. Very inspiring video (as usual), makes me want to play. And that's a good thing as I've been feelin' kinda' stale lately. Thanks for all you give through your videos! Best regards from Montreal. ~Glenn
Thanks for responding. Kept it figuring having it when needed was of more value than the little money it may fetch. It's time I take a trip to the storage facility ...my birthday may come early this year! ;-) Thanks again for everything.
I'm a fan of digital signal chains, so I get my frippertronics from a free plugin called "Aftershock triple delay". But, never could get one as good as yours. Your video gave me ideas about settings on my delay plugin :D
Ah, yes. It's only for Microsoft Windows. But, I found another one which is designed for "Frippertronics". It's called "Elottronix XL" and I think it has a Mac OS version, too.
Hi Bill, loved your video as always, all very well explained! But i have a question, i have the tc electronic flashback x4, what are the main differences between this and the triple delay? Greetings from Portugal 👊
a good way to emulate that Fripp razing tone is to get a J37 plug-in from waves, and just turn all the knobs to the max, to get that super distortion that one can hear on Revolution (Fast) by The Beatles as well. Kramer tape machine plug-in would also work just fine
I'm a guitarist and an experimental electronic instrument player. I never have used the guitar in my electronic ambient music i do. Reason being i like to keep them both completely separate. But after watching several of your videos and being a huge fan of Eno and Fripp (No pussy footing and Morning Star being 2 of my favourite albums) I'm going to go for it.
Thanks for this. Inspired by your previous videos, I have been using the TC DittoX4 for long frippertronics delays. Wouldn't that have been an alternative here?
Yes indeed. I still use my Ditto X4 quite often for Frippertronics style delays. In this case, I was looking for something a little different: 1) I wanted to use the 3 delays together, including the reverse delay and 2) I wanted to emulate tape degradation by using the Tape delay type on the Triple Delay.
Do you always place your volume pedal directly in front of the delay pedal? What difference does that make? Also do you always run the triple delay in buffered bypass mode? Thanks I’m enjoying and learning a lot from your channel!
I've been using a volume pedal (which I bought because of watching your videos BTW!) in front of the rest of my effects. You just inspired me to move it after the drive. But what about an octaver pedal?
I would suggest trying the octaver in a couple of places to see what you like best. Assuming the front end of the chain is Guitar->Compressor, here are a couple of options: 1) Distortion->Octaver - this will octave divide the already distorted tone and provide more distinct separation between the original pitch and octave. 2) Octaver->Distortion - this will distort the octave divided note, blurring difference between the original pitch and the octave. In some cases, you may find you get "phantom" intervals such as a perfect 5th, depending on how the distortion and octave interplay. in both cases, I would suggest placing the octave pedal before the volume pedal to ensure good pitch tracking.
Thanks again for another very informative clip. The stuff I am recording doesn't normally sound a bit like this; but like all guitarists I am always looking to learn new tricks, and your knowledge and understanding of how these pedals work is really helpful ;-) This sound from about 9.10 onwards is fabulous. Thanks again for sharing this!
I'm considering selling both my Flashback X4 and Carl Martin Red Repeat to get the Triple Delay. At that point I'd have half your rig as I just got a Morley Little Alligator and I"m waiting for my Neunaber Immerse to be delivered. :)
The triple is sick!I have it love the sounds all of them still haven't digged into the Toneprint editor to make my own and when I do that I'll stack my three custom delays and along with my Alter ego x4 I will load another custom delay in the Toneprint slot so basically I will stack four custom delays and I don't think I need more ,I've teste stacking the four delays from the presets they sound amazing, the alter ego adds another dimension to the triple.
I use a form to write down the settings of the TC Electronic Flashback Triple Delay. Here's a link with it filled in for what Bill just said on the video: drive.google.com/file/d/0B_8lH6RqJv0IV0luTnRBVTNwdlk/view?usp=sharing Here's a link to a blank form for those of you with the Flashback Triple Delay who, like me, forget the settings that you've been experimenting with: drive.google.com/file/d/0B_8lH6RqJv0ISWFQNW1RWGQwYkE/view?usp=sharing
thank you for your videos dude!! it s allways a pleasure to listen to what you say, your technics etc... and you are one of the rarest dude out there that doing guitar video and use a good microphone for the voice record, and OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MY EARS
I have, but prefer the compressor before the delay. I find by smoothing out the dynamics before, I can run the distortion at a lower gain and still get the sustain I am looking for.
Hi Bill, what stings do you use for your baritone? Just ordered a 277 after months of being inspired by your videos, interested to hear what you would recommend!
On the PRS baritones I use D'Addario EXL 157 (14-68). These are gauges that the guitar ships with. For the Fender Telecaster baritone, I use Elixir 12302 (12-68). With this set, I swap out the second string, which is unwound, with a wound version of the gauge.
Compressor->Distortion->Amp Modeler (Avid 11R). In the FX loop of the 11R: Volume->Triple Delay->Neunaber Immerse. Yes, the delays are stereo and no, the distortion does not bypass the delay.
You are the Bob Ross of Frippertronics. "Happy Little Delays" Anyways -- J Rockett owes you a finder's fee. I ordered the Allan Holdsworth Overdrive pedal today, I believe this was the particular vid of yours that caught my ear using this pedal. I only use overdrives, not distortion per se, so this may answer my frustration of "dialing in" that overdrive I'm looking for. Thanks!
This might be a dumb question but when you used more the one delay does it give the same effect as 2 delay being stacked. Also can you use a tape delay for 1 delay and reverse delay at the same time
Hello. Id like to ask about tc electronic triple delay...is it normal that the mix knob is only heard when I turned it more than a quarter turn? Because from 0 to 1/4 turn...i cannot hear anything...its not taper response..
Hello there. Love your work, its very unique. I'm looking at treating myself to a "big delay" machine. At the moment I have the TC Flashback (four knob, one button). Trying to decide between this TC triple delay, and the Strymon Timeline. The TC is a little cheaper, but I was thinking the Strymon does everything the TC does, and more, at a better quality level. I notice you have both, and are using the TC though. Do you have any thoughts? Many thanks for the music!
Hey - thanks for writing and letting me know you are liking the vids! As far as delay choice goes, The Timeline will indeed do all the delay types that the Triple does, but there are a few differences: 1) The Triple Delay has 3 discrete delays lines that can be used in parallel or series. The Timeline has a Dual setting that has 2 delays, but is more limited. 2) The Timeline is limited to 2.5 seconds of delay, the Triple Delay can do 7 seconds. 3) The Timeline can store lots of presets, the Triple Delay can't. 4) The Timeline has a built in looper, the Triple Delay does not. Hope this helps!
No. Only one delay at a time with the X4. Waste of time compared to the basic Flashback, IMHO. All you get is a tap tempo button, which the Flashback does but you just strum the tempo on your guitar, and more looping buttons, which again the Flashback already has.
I normally run guitar into compressor and distortion and then into the 11R. The volume pedal, and all delays, reverbs and such are in the effects loop, which is set to mono in and stereo out.
You are my ambient king :) ! Great video.... I couldn't decide which is better.... boss dd 20 or tc triple delay and l have them both on my board... Dd 20 best analog delay for me!!!!! .... Tc Triple delay warm sound, great space delay and functionality
Man, you can't imagine how much i've learned about effects with your videos. Thank you so much, i hope you keep doing this for a long time! P.s: In your opinion, what's the best reverse delay pedal available?
Glad you are liking the content! In regards to reverse delays, have you seen my reverse delay shootout? Might help you out: ua-cam.com/video/PwfjY_HTqhg/v-deo.html
The Triple Delay is no longer available. I have my eye set on the Ditto X4, even if it has only two separate loops instead of three. Or do you know of something similar to the Triple Delay?
How do you minimize explosive feedback and general static from distortion? It's really prominent on my amp, especially with any reverb. I do use a Big Muff though.
Hi, the overdrive is awful, buzzing like three ill bees. I can't understand why anyone should use it instead of normal tube overdrive reachable by any of standard Marshall amps or similar.
Very cool, I’ve been going over your Triple Delay vids as I’m finally going to use it.

Thanks - and the Jerry Jones looks awesome!
I love that mellow overdrive, the sustain is insane.
I love my triple delay. I in no way bought one after seeing it on this channel oh no way.
:-)
Bless Robert Fripp and bless you
You are the best ❤ thank you for making this video. Just coming back to it now.
I need to get some Eno/Fripp albums. Thanks so much for inspiring! Subbed!
Excellent. I have been interested in this ever since Frippertronics showed up on the scene.
Thanks very much!
Really nice.
Thanks!

Old electronics in storage = a potential treasure trove! Hope you get some good playing in!

Nice one Sir Davos
Thanks!
это лучшая штука, которую я когда либо видел!!!!!!!!!!!)) this is the best thing I've ever seen.!!!!!!!!!!))
I don't know why but you remind me of a musical Bob Ross so chill xD

I do a little of this with the Izotope Vintage Tape plugin. Great tip, and thanks for sharing it!
I like it bro!
Love the video! I bought the triple delay a few months ago, and I keep coming back to your videos to find new ways to use it. Much thanks!
You are welcome!

love how you play off the delay.Ive gotten very into ambient playing lately
Quite a lot goin' on in that Flashback Triple Delay. Just what I love about delay effect, gives ya a sound like yer doin' more.

Hey Bill: this is great! Thanks so much for sharing the documentation with the folks here. It is very helpful!
A great help to us long delay freaks. I also liked the "Isn't that nice?" repeat ;)

Happy little pedals...
Its funny, has someone come out with guitar pedal shoes? You sure looking nimble in those 👍😀
Hello,
What is the actual signal chain?

It all depends on which TonePrint you have loaded. You can adjust the taper or ramp of the wet/dry mix in the TonePrint editor.
@@chordsoforion im just using the default delay type like the tape echo..hmmmm
Omg theres such thing as a reverse delay. I am experienced.
Dude, were you reading my mind?? I was eager to ask how you got such awesome sound on that video! And here you are! Thank you kindly!!!
Happy to oblige!

Wow, i didn't see that! Thank you
is this actually of an use ?
Yes, if you are interested in creating soundscapes with the Triple Delay. I've released one or two songs in my album catalog that use this technique.
The Triple Delay is no longer available. I have my eye set on the Ditto X4, even if it has only two separate loops instead of three. Or do you know of something similar to the Triple Delay?
You can still get one on Amazon: amzn.to/3fd2TcA
For looper bigger than Ditto X2 which I have and love I would(and I will) go for Roland RC505
I did find one second-hand for €150! Can't wait.
isn't a delay the same as echo?
www.sweetwater.com/insync/what-is-the-difference-between-echo-and-delay/
Does this have a expression pedal??
Yes indeed!
He mentions the volume pedal (Morley Little Alligator) at around the 3:50 mark.
How do you minimize explosive feedback and general static from distortion? It's really prominent on my amp, especially with any reverb. I do use a Big Muff though.
Bertie noise gate pedal, friend.
I'm ashamed to say how many delays I have . . .
No shame in having many delays! :-)
Not Right Music RE-20, DD-6, Timecore (for the endless reverse) and a deluxe memory man...
I have a Strymon Timeline, EHX Memory Boy, Line 6 M9 and TC Triple Delay...... awkward...
Spill it out.

Hi, the overdrive is awful, buzzing like three ill bees. I can't understand why anyone should use it instead of normal tube overdrive reachable by any of standard Marshall amps or similar.
Guess it's all in what you like. That's the beauty of music and sound!
Oh great more talking again yaba yaba yaba bla bla bla ........six months later we finally hear the unit!!!
