       @Julian Crooks So you think the Indians too expensive but say to go with the slightly more expensive bonneville? Scout bobber - $10,999 bonneville bobber - $11950 Scout - $11,499 bonneville t120 - $11,850
      The t100 is cheaper, but smaller engine, so more inline with the scout 60, which is then a lot cheaper than the t100(almost 2k cheaper).
      If ya just like the bonneville that’s one thing, not a bad bike at all. But to say to go with it because Indians are expensive makes no sense when Indians cheaper. And at least the bobber is cheaper than standard on scouts not more

      @Aussieguy72 3 роки тому +1

      They weigh almost the same but Harleys are top heavy because of the engine being a push rod, they use a long bore instead of a square bore, it also explains the vibrations. They tried changing but most of their customers prefer the look of the push rod engine even though overhead cam engines are superior.
      Its been noted in a lot of reviews that HD's death will be because they cater to an older niche market.

      @@Aussieguy72 what’s a long bore?

    • @Aussieguy72
      @Aussieguy72 3 роки тому

      To put it simply.... the piston has to travel further from tdc to bdc each revolution whereas a short bore has a shorter cylinder but generally wider to make up for the volume loss.... push rod engines (those tubes along side Harley's cylinders) cannot cope with higher revving engines which is beneficial for motorbikes, Indian bikes have that advantage, plus since its a shorter stroke more of the detonation happens throughout the length of down stroke of the piston thus obtaining higher power per volume.

It is a small bike, light and nimble and again, it sure was fun to ride. I only rode it 15 minutes but the Scout sure earned my respect. I'm not an advanced rider. Great bike for newbies. More at home in a corner? Yeah in the corner of the garage after you buy a scout. Just busting your chops.....great video.

It's not that the aftermarket doesn't make parts...you just didn't look in the first place.

It would seem you’d have more money going to upgrades with the HD. Sad HD can’t get there bikes to that level of performance stock so you could spend your money on making it look the way you want it to.

    I have been a sportster fan since I first came upon them back in the late 50s. My cousin had a 2000 black on black with black sportster XLCH thousand cc which was just pure terror.
    I bought my own sportster which was a 1999 in November 2005. It has been the closest things to the old sportsters that I could find. You need to compare the older sportsters when it comes to handling and such things to the scout rather than the new sportster which has been made bigger so it could accommodate the rubber mounts to cut the vibration down. Also on the newer sportsters you have to split the cases to service the transmission.
    The sportster is all about the ride. Sure there are plenty of bikes that handle better and are faster, but that’s not why us old school Harley folks like the sportster. I do feel that you guys do a pretty good job of testing , but you’re of the new school and and look for different things

      I've ridden damn near everything. each bike has its own character. why in the hell anyone thinks their bike has to have 100 hp is beyond me. 250 gp bikes turn faster times than the bigger bikes do, and that's skill over horsepower and a bike with 100 horses is pretty much useless if you ride decent. Yes I've ridden some scary fast bikes, I'm done trying to impress my friends with my "i dont care i aint afraid to die" attitude. I bought a very freshly done 2004 883 sportster that been moded up a bit, its just damn fun to ride! A new saddleman seat and a smallish Memphis shades detachable sheild and its great. put 6 and and a half hours behind me last Tuesday, all highway and i cant wait to do it again! It's not my biggest bike, or the fastest bike I've had, but is just a blast to ride!

    My third bike is a Sportster and when I bought I was shocked how much better is it's cornering ability compared to my previous Suzuki Boulevard. The one thing that I don't like about it are the brakes, I had to re-learn breaking to think more ahead compared to the Suzuki. Other thing that they mentioned was vibration. Yes it is vibrating but it is a rubber mounted engine so 1. it is not tiring and 2. it smooths out when you switch in to the right gear. The Indian is a beauty, too bad that the design of the new Sportster S is nowhere near. With the EVO Sporty HD had the excuse that it is an old model but after Indian showed them how to make a really nicely designed classic-looking modern bike I feel the new Revolution Sportster S is a bit of a failure of catching up with them.

    As someone who has owned a sportster, dyna, bagger, and now softail standard. I can honestly suggest riding a new softail standard or street bob since they’re the same bike. Maybe the low rider or slim. They’re all very similar but the low rider and slim have 5 gallon tanks, low bars, and the slim has floorboards. The low rider is probably the smoothest ride of the group because of the wheels. I hated the new softails that used to be dyna’s. Had ridden a couple and just never found them better. Now that I’ve actually spent more time on mine and adjusted it to fit my liking and weight. Damn is it stable in corners. It flicks around like how I remember my old sportster doing. Maybe that’s because I spent the past two years on a bagger. But it’s just so much better than I gave it credit for. I also love that it doesn’t try to kill me at speeds over 70mph. That’s very much appreciated. But to anyone who doesn’t like Harley. I definitely suggest try any of those four. But actually try them. Not like a 20 minute test ride with a slow group. Get your hands on one for a couple days. Ride it through some twisties and see how it feels. Because if it comes down to wanting a little more power. There’s a big aftermarket. But there’s also bikes like the fat bob and low rider s that offer bigger displacement and more power before you add even more power.

      Sure, and for $3k you can add a 2 into 1 exhaust, a fuel controller, and an aftermarket high flow air filter and have the Scout at about 120 crank hp, which makes it around 100hp at the wheels and smoke the dogshit out of any $16k Harley.

    I love Sportys - had a couple down the years and rate the 883 over the 1200 myself - it's more revable and you can wring the nuts off it.
    My buddy's Stage 2 2020 Fat Boy can't keep up with my standard Scout. We are closely matched as riders although I'm packing quite a few more lbs of personal ballast around the waist.
    What people miss is the difference in weight and the spread of torque across the rev range. The Fat Boy produces way more peak torque - but only at one fairly narrow point in the low end of the rev range - albeit with the same level of peak BHP. This means the Milwaukee 8 drops torque rapidly at medium to high speed - it just loses flexibility & punch compared to the Indian. The limitations of a pushrod, air-cooled mill, I guess.
    And the Fat Boy is hauling as much weight as a medium-weight pillion on the Scout - which levels things out when you look at torque:weight.
    In addition, the Fatboy loses a lot in the driveline - especially with the mass of that amazing fat rear wheel & tyre.
    And don't get me started on the difference in handling....
    Fat Boy looks as cool as F, though...
    I was all set to trade the Scout in for a 114 Fat Bob last year, but riding my Scout home after the test ride it became apparent that the Scout is lighter, picks up faster and is more flexible at all points in the rev range; it runs rings around any 114-engined bike. Although the FatBob looks more aggressive than the Scout the H-D feels more cramped than the Scout as well.
    So I'm stuck with the Scout until a true competitor comes along.
    I'm really looking forward to the new liquid cooled H-D's - they could well tempt me. Unless a clean s/h Night Rod Special comes my way...

    This was seriously invaluable. I haven't ridden a motorcycle in nearly twenty-five years and my younger brother recently bought a Sportster 883 out of the blue. Looking at it gave me the bug to get one and I've landed on the Indian Scout. This review really helped me address some potential issues with the Indian that are worth knowing about. I'm 5'8 on a good day so maybe issues like the lack of "ass-shelf" (great term) won't be as much of an issue for me but this really helped me avoid some pitfalls that would have surprised me when I get to testing them out.
    Thank you.

    Until recently both American companies did not offer standard ABS. That was the only tech. With Euro 4 ABS must be offered. Euro 5 requires TC. Emissions making throttle by wire a necessity but made cruise control, traction control, and different modes Easy.

    That scout motor comes right off of 2017 victory octane. That motor was going to be th shift of victory from a cruiser orientated bike to Polaris sport bike and Indian its cruiser line. That engine was also developed from Polaris pikes peak attempts... check out the results from those races

    even comparison would be a bone stock 883 with a bone stock scout 60 or put the same new rear shocks on the scout that you put on the 883.

    I have friends with big HD baggers….114 and 117’s Milwaukee. And my Scout Bobber can take on a 114 and stay side by side with a 117 HD….lots of torque but they die at 5k rpms….while the bobber has less torque but keeps producing hp all the way to 8k rpms….my friends could not believe the power…..
